Comedian Okey Bakassi slams clerics, governors for vindicating bandits

Popular Nigerian comedian, Okey Bakassi has called out state governors and religious clerics for supporting and vindicating the actions of bandits.

Ripples reported earlier that some governors recently supported the calls for negotiation with bandits in order to end kidnappings in their States.

Also, recall that popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, had said the bandits were peaceful people and victims of circumstances who were forced into criminality.

The Islamic Cleric had called for a more lenient approach to the bandits’ activities, adding that attacking them brings out the ‘monster’ in them.

Speaking on the development, Bakassi on his Instagram page wondered why no one is settling Nigerian youths who are struggling to survive.

According to the veteran comedian, rewarding insurgents, bandits and those who go into crime in Nigeria has now become the order of the day, while other Nigerians struggling do not have any support.

Bakassi stated;

“I want to call your attention to this disturbing trend in Nigeria.

Service chiefs retired, but recently the National Assembly confirmed them as ambassadors.

“The same service chiefs who could not provide security.

“Also let me bring to your attention that recently some clerics and governors have been justifying what bandits are doing. Some are saying they should be settled and accepted into the society.

“My question is when you settle all insurgents, who is taking care of Nigerians who have refused to go into crime but are struggling .

COVID-19 has been here for a year, but no one is talking about how entertainers, Nigerian youths who have chosen not to do violence or crime would survive.

“If you Google how much an AK 47 cost, let’s say we all decide to purchase AK 47 and take youths into one forest and begin to kidnap innocent people suddenly the government who is busy can now shake your hands and defend why you should be settled by the government because you have gone through a lot.

“Suddenly the pastors and congregation will be praying for peace, security agencies will start negotiating ransom.

We must help ourselves in Nigeria.”

A judge has denied Tory Lanez’s request to speak publicly about Megan Thee Stallion assault case.

Tory Lanez’s request for permission to speak publicly about the widely publicized Megan Thee Stallion assault case has been denied.

As reported back in January, per legal documents obtained by Complex, Lanez had asked the court to modify a protection order preventing him from publicly speaking on the case. The motion from Lanez’s team argued that, in their opinion, it was unfair that Megan could use her respective platforms to address the case while he was barred from doing the same. The protection order in question also restricts Lanez from contacting Megan via social media.

According to a report from Page Six, a judge denied Lanez’s request during a hearing on the case on Thursday. Lanez’s lawyer Shawn Holley argued at the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles on Thursday, per the report, that the order was “unfair” to his client. The judge overseeing the case, however, ruled that he can’t publicly address it.

Previously, a false story was widely circulated on Twitter and elsewhere claiming that Lanez’s charges in connection with the shooting had been dropped. The quickly-proven-wrong claims used a screenshot of a Los Angeles County court website to assert that Megan herself had dropped the charges. Not only would Megan not be the one dropping any such charges (that would be the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office), a rep from the D.A.’s Office confirmed that the case was unchanged at the time and pointed to a hearing date set for Feb. 25, i.e. today.

In October 2020, the D.A. announced that Lanez had been charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, registered firearm in a vehicle. At the time, he was also confirmed to be facing a “gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury” on “a female friend in the Hollywood Hills.”

If convicted as charged, Lanez faces a potential max sentence of 22 years and eight months.

The Man Who Discovered The Old Woman That Uses Children For Rituals In Anambra

A few days ago, a video went viral of an elderly woman in Anambra state’s Federal Housing Estate, Oyi local government area who allegedly pounds small children for ritual purposes in a mortal.

Within the home, which consists of a mortal and a pestle, gallons filled with blood, and many more, so many fetish items were found.

There was a man who, after getting a tip-off from others, led the police to the place where the incident happened; he did his inquiries before embarking on such a journey. An activist, scholar, businessman, and not forgetting a social criticism, Fitex Chukwudum from Okija in Anambra state.

He is the man who on that fateful day burst into the place with the aid of the police. If it was not for his intervention that he knew the fate of the three children who were saved, that day would have been the end of one of the children as blood was seen in a room gushing out of him.

I urge people who are involved in such an evil act to repent of their evil ways, or if they persist in their evil ways, what happened to this old woman would also happen to them.

Yahoo Boy From Agbor In Delta State jailed for 2 years

The Nigerian Government has been seriously campaigning against the internet and cyber fraud that is commonly called “Yahoo” which is very rampant among Nigerian youths, who claim not to have jobs upon their graduation.

Other cyber scammers who are yet to be nabbed must learn a lesson from Emeka Roland, a youth from Agbor in Delta State as nemesis of his crimes fell on him about two hours ago.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has secured a conviction against Emeka Roland, who is a hardened cyber criminal. The conviction against the accused person was handed down today by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Warri, Delta State.

The anti corruption agency has dragged the suspect to court over an accusation of cyber crime not disclosed in the tweet posted by the agency on its verified Twitter account.

The agency said that the suspect was guilty upon his arraignment before the trial judge and that his legal counsel pleaded the court to temper justice with mercy because his client had pleaded guilty.

Emeka Roland had become remorseful according to his lawyer and it was the first time Mr. Emeka Roland would be caught in the act of crimes.

However, the judge, as reported by the EFCC, went on to pass judgment on the accused person. Emeka Roland was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment, but he was given an option of fine of N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira).

The judgement shows that one day the long arm of law will catch the cyber criminals and they will dance to the tune of their crimes. Emeka Roland must have seen the bitter end of his illegal internet activities.

Former Big Brother Naija contestant, Ka3na has come under intense scrutiny following her snide remarks towards a fan who inked her name on her thigh.

Ka3na rebuked the fan for getting a tattoo of her and for also recognizing her as a role model.

Ka3na revealed she was not in support of the gesture.

Here is what Ka3na stated;

‘How can you do something like this to your own body?

Tattoo is permanent.

If you love me and you are my fan, there are ways you can actually show that by always posting my pictures, always on my comment section, always attending my events, seeing me and taking pictures with me.

Not tattooing my name on your body.

This is wrong.

Celebrities that encourage these fans need to stop.” she said.

Since she made the comment on social media, several notable Nigerians have dragged her online.

First, the popular transvestite, Bobrisky made a comment about her reaction to the fan’s gesture.

The transvestite wrote;

Hey!

To those saying I am encouraging those who tattoo my name by giving them money is wrong.

We all know is not all that glitters on IG that is real gold,” he wrote.
The crossdresser continued;

“Firstly is my money, I can give it to anyone I like.

What about those ones I have helped without my picture tattoo on their body?

You were blind to talk then.

If you are broke to support your own fans; well I’m not broke to support mine so get that straight in your empty skull girl”

Nollywood actress, Ada Ameh has also followed suit.

You went on Twitter and you wrote something that you would have loved someone to have a tattoo of you on their body and this young lady did. You came, did a video and you were all flirting with your hair and you were being sarcastic and that was very wicked of you,” she said.

Making her point, Ameh stated;

“My point exactly is simple. You don’t know that a lot of people look up to us. Some people can crazily love you to a very destructive point. You encouraged her. She tattoed you and at the end of the day you came and you said it was wrong.”

Other notable celebrities such as Kelly Handsome, Big Brother Naija finalist, T-Boss have also taken to Instagram to slam the reality star for her comments.

Catholic Bishops warn against Nigeria’s collapse

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has warned against Nigeria’s imminent collapse going by the alarming spate of insecurity ravaging different parts of the country.

In a statement on Tuesday jointly signed by the President of CBCN, Archbishop Augustine Akubueze and the Secretary, Most Rev. Camillus Raymond Umoh in Abuja, the Bishops said the country had remained together thus far by the grace of God, but expressed displeasure that the survival of Nigeria was hanging on a precipice at the moment.

According to the Bishops, “the country is falling apart due to seriously rising insecurity clearly evident in the widespread loss of lives and property triggered by the increasing number of bandits, Boko Haram, killer herdsmen and other criminal elements across the country.”

The statement reads in parts:

“The clamour for self-defense is fast gaining ground. Many ethnic champions are loudly beating the drums of war, calling not only for greater autonomy but even for outright opting out of a nation in which they have lost all trust and sense of belonging.

“The calls for secession on an ethnic basis from many quarters should not be ignored or taken lightly.

“Many have given up on the viability and even on the desirability of the Nigeria project as one united country.

No wonder many non-state actors are filling the vacuum created by a palpable failure of government.

“The Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari can no longer delay rising to its obligation to govern the nation; not according to ethnic and religious biases but along the lines of objective and positive principles of fairness, equity and, above all, justice.

“It is not too much for Nigerians to demand from Mr President sincerity both in the public and private domain. There are no more excuses.

“We, of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, with members from all parts of Nigeria, are very highly disturbed about the present state of instability in the land.

This must not be allowed to continue to fester and degenerate. We are raising this alarm because of our deep patriotic love for our nation, not for any sectional interests, be they political, ethnic or even religious.

“Despite the persistence of crises around us, assassinations, Covid 19, kidnappings, murders, banditry, armed robberies, we sincerely affirm our faith in the viability and desirability of the Nigeria Project, as one prosperous nation under God.

“But we are also convinced that building such a nation, especially in our present circumstances, comes at a cost.

We are also convinced that the alternative of tearing ourselves apart, comes with a cost that is far higher than what it takes to keep ourselves together.

“We must be ready to seek a common purpose with sincerity of mind. As individuals and as groups, we ought to be ready to make the necessary sacrifices that would enable us to manage our differences better and turn them into a positive, rather than a negative force.

“Governments at different levels ought to lead the way.”

Walking to her doom: Final moments of pregnant wife ‘pushed to her death by husband after he duped her into posing for selfie on cliff-edge’

Footage has emerged showing the horrifying moment a father-to-be took his heavily-pregnant wife out onto a cliff edge before allegedly pushing her to her death.

Hakan Aysal, 40, was arrested for the murder of his wife Semra Aysal, 32, and their unborn baby while they were on holiday in Butterfly Valley in the city of Mugla, Turkey.

Aysal allegedly pushed his wife, who was seven months pregnant at the time, off the cliff where she and the baby were killed instantly in June 2018.

The couple had been taking pictures together on the cliff, and prosecutors say the ‘accident’ was in fact murder carried out by Aysal so that he could cash in on the insurance he took out shortly before Semra’s death.

Video has since been released showing the couple walking along a dangerously steep cliff face.

In the clip, Aysal holds his wife’s hand as they climb over rocks to get a better view towards the Aegean Sea hundreds of feet below.

Minutes later it is claimed he pushed her off the cliff.

The tourist who filmed the clip claimed he had seen Aysal acting strangely.

In the indictment prepared for the crime of ‘deliberate murder’ against the husband, it states that he ‘planned the murder of his wife by first taking out a personal accident insurance on her behalf with a guarantee of 400,000 Turkish Lira (£40,865) and where the only beneficiary was himself’.

Prosecutors claimed that the only reason they sat on top of the cliff for three hours was so that he could make sure no one was around.

They alleged that as soon as Aysal realised they were alone, he deliberately killed her by pushing her off the cliff.

The indictment also noted that Aysal had claimed the insurance payment a short while later, but it was declined when news of the investigation was unveiled.

The Fethiye High Criminal Court has ruled that he be remanded in custody for premeditated murder.

In a video interview, the court heard from the victim’s brother Naim Yolcu who said: ‘When we went to the Forensic Medicine Institute to get the body, Hakan was sitting in the car. My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan did not even appear sad.’

He added: ‘My sister was always against taking out loans. However, after she died, we learned that she had three loans taken by Hakan on behalf of my sister.

‘Also, Semra had a fear of heights, what extreme sport is she going to be doing when she is scared of heights?’

Asked about the questionable insurance premiums, Aysal said: ‘I have been interested in extreme sports since 2014; parachute, bungee jumping, rafting. That is why I had life insurance before I got married.’

Aysal was also asked about the article in the accident personal insurance stating that he would be the heir if Semra died.

Aysal said; ‘I did not examine the policy much. The banker arranged the paperwork. I just brought it to my wife to get it signed. I was not aware that there was such an article.’

He has denied being responsible for her death, saying: ‘After taking a photo, my wife put the phone in her bag. Later she asked me to give her the phone.

‘I got up and then heard my wife scream behind me when I walked a few steps away to get the phone from her bag. When I turned back, she was not there. I did not push my wife.’

The investigation continues.
