The Nigerian Government has been seriously campaigning against the internet and cyber fraud that is commonly called “Yahoo” which is very rampant among Nigerian youths, who claim not to have jobs upon their graduation.
Other cyber scammers who are yet to be nabbed must learn a lesson from Emeka Roland, a youth from Agbor in Delta State as nemesis of his crimes fell on him about two hours ago.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has secured a conviction against Emeka Roland, who is a hardened cyber criminal. The conviction against the accused person was handed down today by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Warri, Delta State.
The anti corruption agency has dragged the suspect to court over an accusation of cyber crime not disclosed in the tweet posted by the agency on its verified Twitter account.
The agency said that the suspect was guilty upon his arraignment before the trial judge and that his legal counsel pleaded the court to temper justice with mercy because his client had pleaded guilty.
Emeka Roland had become remorseful according to his lawyer and it was the first time Mr. Emeka Roland would be caught in the act of crimes.
However, the judge, as reported by the EFCC, went on to pass judgment on the accused person. Emeka Roland was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment, but he was given an option of fine of N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira).
The judgement shows that one day the long arm of law will catch the cyber criminals and they will dance to the tune of their crimes. Emeka Roland must have seen the bitter end of his illegal internet activities.
