Laycon breaks record as he wins big brother Naija season 5

Years ago when big brother Naija (BBN) reality show started, I never liked the concept . Of course, I castigated the immoral acts displayed by some of the housemates but beyond that, I have viewed the reality show differently. Some things are now obvious to me, which I probably didn’t realise when the show was flagged off.

Basically from another point of view, BBN is a very big platform and I wouldn’t mind being an housemate. Really ,I can be an housemmate and not get entangled in any love affair in the house. The reality show has been tagged as +18 and parental guidance has been emphasised. Based on this ,under no circumstances should parents watch this reality show with their kids around. Moreover stricter measures can be taken by parents , such as blocking channels transmitting the reality show.
I can’t disagree with the fact that big brother Naija Platform is a life changing experience for Nigerian youths who are opportune to become housemates. One of the housemates in the recently concluded season is Laycon. He has been in the music industry for quite a while without gaining a large audience, he obviously had a small circle of fans before gaining entry into the reality show. However, what do we see now? It happened that even while the reality show was on going, the platform had given him the fame he struggled to have over the years. I checked his instagram (IG) page and could notice the huge transition. Within a span of the first 6weeks of the reality show , his followers on instagram increased from less than ten thousand followers to over 500 thousand followers.

Then as soon as the reality show was concluded, Laycon’s followers hit 1.4million…what a big surprise! No housemate has broken this record in previous and recent seasons of the big brother reality show. On the 27th of September 2020, Laycon was finally crowned the winner of big brother lockdown season 5. Congratulations Laycon!
Would you however turn down the opportunity to be an housemate in the big brother’s house? I believe every youth has the ability to make a choice to either portray decency or immoral act. However, individual goal and essence of the BBN platform is something that really counts. The question is , what would you do with such a platform? Apparently, the big brother’s platform has a huge fan base and audience.

Talking about immorality, a lot of movies have romantic scenes and are shown through various media , this includes the internet. I am not in support of immorality but bringing down the reality show (BBN) does not change anything or reduce immoral acts in the world. It has only gotten worse since the evolution of science and technology, which we cannot do without.

The kids we try to protect have access to the internet, this bring me to the conclusion that…parents have a huge role to play, in ensuring their children are not exposed to contents which could jeopardise their future. Train your children, guide them and to a large extent, educate them about the implications of getting involved in immoral acts!
Talking further about BBN reality show, it’s no news that the grand price sums up to 85million naira. Excuse me, what kind of empowerment could be better than this? That is absolutely mouth watering! Even if a civil servant works for 35 years in this country, he or she wouldn’t still earn such. Considering this, what intelligent citizens of this country ought to call for are strict measures to ensure that a level of decency is observed in the Big Brother Naija reality show.
