Officials in shock after discovering ‘female prisoner’ is actually a man

A female prisoner at Shurugwi Female Prison in Zimbawe has been exposed after being discovered to be a man.

Praise Mpofu, 22 who was arrested while dressed as a woman, is alleged to have been in the business of pretending to be a female to lure male clients who he would steal from.

The man allegedly stole from a man at Gweru’s Mkoba 6 suburb and was consequently arrested by police. The client reportedly paid for Mpofu’s services as a commercial sex worker, while under the impression that he was dealing with a woman. When they got to his home where they were supposed to spend the night, Mpofu stole from the man and ran away.

He was arrested days later when he was spotted in Mkoba 6. At the time of his arrest, he was dressed as a woman, in a skirt and a blouse. He also had a female hairstyle and was wearing a stuffed bra to give off the impression that he had an ample bosom.

Appearing before Gweru Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft, he did not reveal that he was actually male and continued with the ruse. As a result, the magistrate ordered that he be remanded at Shurugwi Female Prison.

Due to logistical issues, Mpofu could not be transported to the female prison. Instead, he was temporarily detained at the Gweru Young Offenders Prison where he was housed with juvenile female offenders for two days.

He was finally busted after prison officials were able to transport him to Shurugwi Female Prison.

Midland Prisons spokesperson Nevson Tagarira who confirmed the incident, told Masvingo Mirror;

Yes, there was an inmate who came from ZRP through the magistrate’s court pretending to be a female. It was only identified at Shurugwi Female Prisons through our normal channels on admission that he was actually a male inmate, not a female as he was pretending to be. Mpofu was taken from Shurugwi female prison to Hwahwa Maximum Prison on the same day.”

A female nurse who is responsible for searching all new prisoners, is said to have discovered that the new prisoner was actually male.

Another source told the publication; “Mpofu spend two days at Gweru Young Offenders prison where he did not divulge that he was a male and he was treated as a female. The matter came to light when he was to be detained at Shurugwi Female Prison that he was not a female.

One could not figure out that Mpofu is a male he had a nice hairstyle, breasts and he was wearing a skirt just like a lady. Mpofu was arrested after he stole from a man who had hired him as a prostitute, Mpofu stole money and fled before he fulfilled the duties he was hired for.”

Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman who is professionally known as Oxlade is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was born on the 22nd of April, 1997, and hails from Ekpe, Lagos State, Nigeria, and was born and raised in Mushin, Lagos State.

As a child, he had a flair for music and started out as a church singer right from the age of 10. His father didn’t approve of that career path but he continued regardless. He later gained admission to study History and International relations at Lagos State University, (LASU). He forfeited the degree halfway in pursuit of a career in music and this action didn’t sit well with his father as he stopped catering for him after he left school for music. In 2017, he started singing professionally and uploaded his first record on Soundcloud that same year, 2017.

The stage name ‘Oxlade’ was given to him by his grandfather, who lost his best friend (A British man) the day he was born and hence gave him the name for a memorial. In his JSS 3, he selected ‘Oxlade’ as his official stage name.

He got his first breakthrough after his collaboration with Blaqbonez ‘Mamiwota’ dropped. He was already getting tired and almost giving up. After the song dropped, Blaqbonez encouraged him to open a Twitter account which he did, and was surprised with the level of support and endorsement he got due to the Mamiwota record.

His first biggest crowd/stage he performed in was in Davido’s concert in 2018 at the O2 Arena. He also performed at Wizkid’s concert in October 2019, at the O2 Arena.

Drake also shared a screenshot on his Instagram story on the 7th of November, 2020 showing that he is listening to ‘Away’.

Oxlade’s net worth is estimated at $75,000. He makes his money off royalties from his songs on music streaming platforms, from performing in shows, endorsements, and for features.

I develop cold feet about marriage sometimes – Actress,Lilian Afegbai

When it comes to red carpet and events, actress Lilian Afegbai is one celebrity who leaves many agape with her impressive dress sense.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, the actress said she once battled with body insecurity, no thanks to her knock knees. Afegbai said, “I think fashion is not just about the body because some people have the body but they do not know how to carry it or can’t get a good designer that understands what they want. Even if you don’t have a perfect body, as people would say, you can always design things to suit your body and cover your flaws. I also have flaws but I have learnt to live with my flaws. We are not all perfect. Everyone has something they don’t like in their body but you would get to a point where you would appreciate what God has given you. I used to be very insecure about my knock knees that I could not wear shorts. You can never catch me with bum shorts because I used to think that my legs are not very straight. But as I grew older, I got to know that I have nothing to be ashamed of. A lot of people still look nice despite not having certain things. It is okay not to have certain things.”

Speaking about marriage, the sexy actress revealed that she develops cold feet about marriage sometimes.

Afegbai said, “I do not look at people’s marriages or people’s lives. I believe in individuality, I believe that people should not look at people’s lives to judge others. It does not make sense. But naturally, I have a fear of marriage. My cold feet have nothing to do with the Internet. I am now learning to draw close to God. I have the mentality that as a Christian, I will enjoy the good of everything. It means that if I get married, by God’s grace, my marriage will work out. But it still does not mean I do not have cold feet. I am at the point where I leave everything to God. I love family, I love kids, I want an amazing husband. But at the end of the day, I want what God wants for me.

“I have my cold feet because of the generation we are in now. This generation does not take marriage seriously as before. We don’t understand what marriage is. So, it takes the grace of God to get there. Any little marriage issue this generation wants a divorce but it is only normal to have issues in marriage. If not for the social media age, the settlement will be quicker. I am not saying one cannot leave when one is not happy. Of course, one can leave when it is affecting one’s peace of mind. I will not lose myself and happiness for love. I will only attract people who are comfortable with my lifestyle. However, I can compromise certain things that do not affect my peace for love. Imagine I meet a man who does not like me going out every day. I can reduce my going out for the sake of love but I won’t stop going out totally.”

Nigerian govt approves compensation for victims of police brutality

The National Economic Council (NEC) said on Friday the Federal Government and states would set up modalities for the settlement of compensations awarded to victims of police brutality in the country.

The NEC, according to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, stated this at a meeting held on Friday in Abuja.

The council, which is chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, comprises the governors and representatives of the federal government.

The council stressed that all officers indicted by the judicial panels of inquiry set up by the state governments to probe allegations of police brutality would be prosecuted.

The federal government had directed states to set up judicial panels of inquiry to probe allegations of rights violations by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police personnel following the #EndSARS protests that rocked many parts of the country in October last year.

The statement read: “It may be recalled that following the October 2020 #ENDSARS protests, in furtherance of resolution of NEC, 28 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had set up Judicial Panels/Commissions of Inquiry to investigate allegations of violations of human rights levied against members of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, especially members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The 28 States that set up these panels were Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, and Taraba.

Out of the 28 States, 11 States (Abia, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Kwara, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, and Rivers) have submitted their final reports to Council; with Lagos, set to finalise its sittings on 19th October 2021, submitting an interim report. Governors of other States including Delta and Ebonyi at today’s meeting also indicated that their reports would be submitted soon.

“Following deliberations on the recommendations of the panels, NEC agreed/resolved as follows, (and this applies to all the States and FCT that set up the panels):

“Each State, in collaboration with the Federal Government, shall establish modalities for the settlement of all monetary compensations awarded by the Panels. Already, as resolved by NEC, a number of states have set up Victims Compensation Funds, from which several victims have already received payments of sums awarded to them by the panels.

Council directed State Governors to immediately forward copies of final reports of the panels to their Attorneys-General for prompt arraignment and prosecution of all indicted persons.

“Where incidents in the reports relate to matters of discipline, in addition to prosecution, NEC urged the Nigeria Police Force to take disciplinary action on the affected officers in line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020.”

12 killed as bandits invade Zamfara village

No fewer than 12 people have been killed in an attack by bandits who invaded Sakajiki village in Kaura Namoda Emirate in Zamfara State.

The incident was confirmed on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mohammed Shehu.

According to him, there would have been more casualties in the attack if not for the response of the police operatives deployed in the area.

Also, Shehu said the commissioner of police in the state has deployed an additional squad for reinforcement.

He assured the people of the area that the command would redouble its efforts to ensure that banditry was wiped out of the state.

Confirming the incident, a resident of the area said the assailants had arrived in the village at about 9 pm on Thursday and were there for several hours.

He noted that at least 12 persons were confirmed dead after the attackers ended their operation around 4 am, on Friday.

‘Compel govt officials to send children to Nigerian schools,’ ASUU charges National Assembly

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday, charged the National Assembly to make a law that would compel government officials to send their children to public schools in Nigeria.

The ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, made the call in his address at a meeting between the union and the Federal Government team in Abuja.

The federal government team was led to the meeting by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

The meeting was convened after ASUU threatened to resume its suspended strike over the federal government failed to honour some of the agreements signed by both parties last year.

The ASUU chief commended the minister for his show of uncommon faith in the university system by sending his children to public schools in the country.

Osodeke encouraged other government officials to emulate Ngige.

He blamed the insecurity in the country on the government’s neglect of the education system.

He said: “I hope other ministers will follow the same step as you. I think you are the only minister whose children are in the country. We see others standing by their children outside the country during graduation. But, we saw you standing by one of your children who graduated in Lagos, proudly.

We hope all others will emulate you and that government will make it mandatory that if you accept a government appointment, your children must attend universities in the country.

“The National Assembly must formulate a law that if you take an appointment, your children must study here. If you know that your children cannot be here, don’t take a Government appointment.

“When you hear those in government who send their children to schools abroad say that ASUU goes on strike, they should know that strike is not the problem. The problem is the issues afflicting the universities; nobody is interested in tackling them. Look at the budget we have seen recently, it is the same thing we have been seeing. Nothing has changed.

And this country is paying the high price for neglecting education, the banditry you see, the kidnapping and what have you, are because people are not being taken care of. That is why ASUU has been struggling so that Nigerian universities will be revamped so that as our children go outside for learning, other children from other countries will come here too and pay to this country in hard currency.”

In his remarks, Ngige assured that the federal government would do all within its power to make the nation’s educational system better despite the paucity of funds occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges.

Six persons reportedly die as gunmen attack venue of APGA rally in Anambra

At least six persons were reportedly killed and several others injured in a gun duel between security agents and suspected criminals at the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship campaign rally in Ihiala local government area of Anambra State on Tuesday.

An eyewitness told journalists that gunmen stormed the Odoata Primary School venue of the rally on three vehicles and various motorcycles but were repelled by security agents.

He said the state Governor, Willie Obiano, was also trapped in the ensuing melee.

“The governor’s convoy was held for about one hour while gunshots were booming everywhere in the area. They did not attack the convoy but security men.

During the gun duel, some security operatives were felled and some gunmen were equally killed. We know those who were killed would be more than six,” he said.

The spokesman of the state police command, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident.

He said one AK 47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and four vehicles were recovered from the hoodlums.

The spokesman was however silent on the number of casualties of the attack.

Meanwhile, the state government has dismissed the report that Governor Obiano’s convoy was attacked by the gunmen.

In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, James Eze, the government urged the people of the state to disregard the report.

The statement read: “We wish to inform the general public that the report is a blatant lie without a shred of truth in it. The fact is that when some gunmen engaged security operatives in a shootout in Ihiala today, Governor Obiano was attending a pre-scheduled political rally in Ogbaru Local Government Area along with Prof Chukwuma Soludo, the standard-bearer of the All progressives Grand Alliance in the November 6, 2021, gubernatorial election in the state.

“The Ogbaru campaign was highly successful with a large turn of party members and supporters who came to reassure Prof Soludo and APGA of their support in the coming election. There was not a single incident of violence in the campaign venue and its surroundings and Governor Obiano and his fellow party men and women all went home peacefully after the rally.

The report that Governor Obiano’s convoy was attacked is obviously false and should be disregarded by well-meaning members of the society.

“Governor Obiano deeply regrets the shootout at Ihiala today and the attendant loss of lives. He calls on all the politicians involved in the ongoing electioneering campaign in the state to join hands with him in calming the political temperature of the state in order to ensure a peaceful and fair election on November 6, 2021.”

Kwara govt suspends head of Arabic school over students’ maltreatment

The Kwara State government has suspended the head of Musbaudeen Islamiyya Arabic school in Ganmo, Ifelodun local government area of the state for flogging five students of the institution.

The state’s Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said a panel has been set up to investigate the matter.

In a video that surfaced on social media at the weekend, some clerics were seen flogging the students with long canes for allegedly attending a birthday party at a clubhouse in the area.

The incident sparked angry reactions from members of the public, including the students’ parents, and forced the government to take the action.

The statement read: “A Kwara State government’s delegation has visited the Arabic school whose students were seen in a video footage being punished for alleged conducts conceived to be contrary to the rules of the school.

“The team comprised the Hon. Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu; Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion (Islam) Alhaji Danmaigoro; Dr. Saudat AbduBaqi of the University of Ilorin; Mallam Lawal Olohungbebe of Kwara State University; and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye.

The team was joined by the Divisional Police Officer Ganmo SP Oko Nkama; and a representative of the NSCDC DSC Parati AbdulHameed.

The government’s team carefully listened to the authorities of the Arabic school, the father of the sole girl in the video, and four other students involved in the unsavoury development.

“Regardless of the explanations of the authorities on the development, the self-confessed consent of the parents, and regret of the affected students, the government seriously frowns at the harsh beating seen in the footage.

“Consequently, the government has directed the setting up of an investigative committee, comprising Muslim scholars, leaders and government officials, to look into the issue while the head of the Arabic school, who admitted to directing the punishment, has been asked to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation.

The government has also taken the affected students to a public hospital for proper medical examination and treatment. This is to ensure that none of them suffers any physical or psychological damage.”

Polytechnic teachers threaten to resume strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) on Sunday threatened to resume its nationwide strike over the Federal Government’s “unsatisfactory” implementation of the agreement signed by both parties.

The union was protesting the poor state of public polytechnics and monotechnics and non-payment of 10 months’ arrears of the new minimum wage.

ASUP suspended its nationwide strike in June.

The union’s Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi Yalwa, said in a statement that the union discussed the report on the implementation of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the federal government during the 101st Regular meeting of its National Executive Council held at the Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State.

According to him, the union expressed dismay at the government’s “lethargic approach” towards the implementation of some items in the MoA despite its decision to suspend the strike for three months.

The spokesman said the union would not give any warning again to the government if it fails to address its demands.

Yalwa said: “ASUP equally expressed its dismay at recent reports of infractions in the process of appointment of Principal Officers in Federal Polytechnics and some State-owned Polytechnics in disregard of extant provisions in establishment laws.

“In view of the unsatisfactory status of the implementation of the Union’s MoA signed with the government in April 2021, the Nigerian public should hold the government and its agencies responsible for any other breakdown of industrial harmony in the sector as our union and her members have shown considerable patience and restraint.

“The union once again demands that the government should without further delay ensure the release of the arrears of the Minimum Wage to staff, release the approved Revitalization Fund for the sector and set up the implementation committee to administer the funds, recommence the renegotiation of the union’s 2010 agreement and withdraw institutional accreditation to State-owned institutions where salaries are owed to staff.

The union resolved to deepen its consultation on the next steps as there will be no further warnings if the government fails to do the needful in the immediate.”

JTF operatives assault soccer fan at Bauchi viewing centre

The operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Bauchi State last month brutalized a 30-year-old soccer fan, Adamu Sodangi Aliyu, during a UEFA Champions League game in the state.

Sodangi, who was watching a UEFA Champions League game at a viewing center in Rinjin Gani, Toro local government area of the state on September 28, got what he never bargained for when he was attacked by some JTF personnel.

The young man, who addressed journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Bauchi on Friday, said he was dehumanized and completely brutalized by the security agents.

He said: “On Tuesday, September 28, 2021. I was watching the UEFA Champions League at a public viewing house in Rinjin Gani, Toro LGA of Bauchi State. Behind me, there was a man, just towards the end of the first 45 minutes of the game, he put his hand on my shoulder and pressed me down.

I perceived the act annoying and turned around to look at him inquisitively without a word. The man said, ‘Yes, you are blocking my view!’

“How and what am I to do then? I asked him. Then he said; no, he did not mean fight oo! I said I didn’t mean to fight either. Then he said that I should reduce my height. I told him I don’t know how, I can reduce my height, when it went further I told him that he came and met me there and I also told him that he didn’t pay for me.

“When it was time for the 15 minutes break, as I rose up to go out with my brother (who was sitting with me), the man also rose and followed me. He then grabbed my arm this time around and said he wanted to talk to me. I told him I don’t want to talk to him. He persisted, then I freed myself and told him I have something to do he should excuse me.

By that time people have gathered, then I heard them saying to him ‘officer please sorry, please it is okay’ (it was at that moment that I discovered that the man is a security agent.

“I told them I didn’t do anything wrong to him and that I’ll not apologize to him and left. At the commencement of the second 45 minutes, the man came back, this time around with others (I don’t know their number at that time, but I was later informed they were three), they were holding whips and canes.

“He pointed at me and one of them grabbed and drew me to follow them saying, ‘na you wan fight Soja ba? Muje zakaci ubanka’ (there I realized that the man is a soldier).

“I told them, I am not going anywhere. The next thing I heard was flogging, punches, and kicking from every angle.

They carried me up in the football viewing house and were taking me to their camp but I managed to force myself down, insisting that I did nothing wrong to anyone and I’m not following them. They beat me till I was almost dead in the presence of over 100 people watching the ball in that viewing house.

“They left after realizing that I was no longer conscious and dumped me inside a pond of mud water and returned back to their camp. Nobody was able to stop them, except for few individuals that were pleaded with them not to kill me.

“A friend sent me details of the Nigerian military to report their personnel unprofessional conduct and he also advised that I should complain to the police, which I did.

” Meanwhile, someone at the viewing house went to inform the head of the JTF in Rinjin Gani. He came and confirmed what he heard and promised me that he will do something about it. I went to the police that night. After hearing my complaint, the police said I should go to Magama Gumau to complain to one Captain (as they said) he is the head of the military in Toro LGA.”
