Forget critics, Oba burial for us was an investment —Cubana Chief Priest

Popular Nigerian hype man and nightlife aficionado, Pascal Chiuike Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest has bragged about the ostentatious lifestyle and money splash amongst his peers especially during Obi Cubana’s late mother’s burial which took place in Oba, Anambra State a couple of weeks ago.

He claimed that what went down at Oba was an investment for him and his peers, and that the rewards have started rolling in.

According to the businessman, their lifestyle and flamboyance exhibited by socialites during the burial are avenues for even more opportunities in the entertainment and hospitality sector in which they belong.

He claimed the Oba scenario would be replicated whenever a well-meaning aged loved one of theirs passes, irrespective of what critics have to or will say.

The Cubana Group hypeman further stated that it will be a herculean task for history to erase what took place in Oba, Anambra State.

Sharing a photo of himself and his former boss, the celebrity barman wrote:

“No Follow Us Dey Drag Doings, Our Business Requires Noise N Doings, If Una Like Complain Till Tomorrow If Our Well Aged Loved One Dies Again We Go Still Use Excess Doings Bury Am.

Dj Kaywise, Mr Macaroni support Odunlade Adekola at Goldberg ambassadorial renewal ceremony.

Nigerian music stars and fellow Goldberg Lager ambassadors, DJ Kaywise and Olamide showed support for Odunlade Adekola, who signed a contract renewal deal as brand ambassador for the beer brand.

The signing, which took place at an exclusive event in Lagos recently, is a multi-year deal that will see Adekola continue in his current role of projecting the brand as a chief promoter of the culture and history of the people of the South-Western region where it is a dominating beer brand.

Held on Thursday, July 15, Adekola expressed gratitude for the deal renewal. Overwhelmed by the love and support from his friends, colleagues, and the Goldberg team, Adekola revealed that he was delighted to hop back on the ambassadorial train to work in alignment with Nigeria breweries.

He said, “Getting another opportunity to work with Goldberg Lager beer in telling the extraordinary story of Nigerians from the South-West is a fulfilling role. It feels like being part of something bigger. It feels like being part of something that will outlive us all. I have been given another shot at not only experiencing this process unfold but also to be part of it in more ways than that will engage beer lovers.”

On the other hand, DJ Kaywise revealed that he has had a good working relationship with Adekola.

“Adekola is like a big brother to me, and that’s the reason I came out to celebrate him. Working with him on various projects, and he reflects the epitome of hard work and dedication. He truly deserves this renewed deal. He has earned it.”

The special evening marking the momentous event saw guests treated to the premium taste of the golden effervescent Goldberg Lager. Pairing perfectly, they were treated to an array of finger foods and popular Nigerian music albeit observing COVID-19 health guidelines.

According to the senior brand manager, Goldberg, Olaoluwa Babalola, the Goldberg brand extended the ambassadorial deal because of the pivotal role Adekola played in recent years. In his words, “If the formula works, use it again. I am sure that Adekola will work in tandem with the set goals of Goldberg Lager Beer: serving an experience through culture, history, and the best of beer brews.”

Kanye West didn’t rap negatively about Kim Kardashian on new album – New report says news suggesting the rapper compared living with the reality star to being in prison is false.

A report by The UK Sun that Kanye West made disparaging remarks about estranged wife Kim Kardashian on his tenth album, titled Donda, is said to be false.

This comes after it was alleged that the 44-year-old rapper broke down in tears on stage at his album listening party in Las Vegas over the weekend, playing a track that included disparaging remarks about his marriage to the mother of his four children.

His new song Welcome to my Life was said to include lyrics about his troubled personal life including his current divorce from the KUWTK star, his meltdowns on Twitter, and his failed US Presidency bid, according to The Sun on Monday July 19.

The lyrics of his new song reportedly likens their Calabasas marital home that he shared with Kim to jail, as he raps: ‘Tell the assassins I escaped from Calabasas.’

A source who was at the listening party told The Sun: ‘It’s a very deep, sad song about Kanye, with him reflecting on his marriage with Kim.’

‘He talks about the kids and mentions her taking everything. After he played this song he paused for like, two minutes, and cried. It was really sombre.’

On Monday, a source told DailyMail.com that Kanye ‘doesn’t say anything negative’ about 40-year-old on the record, despite previous claims that he has allegedly compared their marital home to living in a prison.

Kim officially filed for divorce from Kanye in February this year after seven years of marriage, requesting joint legal and physical custody of their four children.

Tokyo Olympics installs cardboard beds inside Olympic Village to discourage Athletes from engaging in sexual activity.

The countdown for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has already begun with the sports event kicking off this weekend.

Ahead of the event, officials have reportedly installed cardboard beds inside the Olympic village to discourage athletes from engaging in sexual activity.

According to Dezeen magazine, Olympic officials who already warned 2021 Games participants to avoid two-person push-ups because of the coronavirus, set up 18,000 of the cardboard beds in the notoriously sex-crazed athletes’ village.

“Those beds can stand up to 200 kilograms,” Takashi Kitajima, the general manager of the Athletes Village, was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. Kitajima further added that a “wild celebration” such as an athlete bagging a gold could perhaps be bad news for the bed. “Of course, wood and cardboard would each break if you jumped on them,” he said.

“Beds to be installed in Tokyo Olympic Village will be made of cardboard, this is aimed at avoiding intimacy among athletes,” American distance runner Paul Chelimo tweeted.

Euro 2020: FA launches independent review into ‘disgraceful’ fan/police clashes at Wembley final.

The English Football Association has commissioned an independent review into what it terms “disgraceful scenes” at Wembley Stadium during the Euro 2020 final.

The match between England – playing in front of a home crowd and in their first major final for 55 years – and Italy was marred by ticketless supporters who gained entry to the stadium, clashing with stewards, police and fellow fans in the process.

The Metropolitan Police have issued an appeal for help identifying 10 men who they believe were involved with violence and disorder at England’s national stadium.

UEFA also opened a disciplinary investigation into events surrounding the match The FA was hit with four charges by UEFA relating to the invasion of the field by a spectator, throwing of objects by supporters, disturbances during the Italian anthem and the lighting of fireworks.

The FA has now confirmed a review will take place.
On Monday July 19, an FA spokesperson said: “We are determined to fully understand what happened outside and then inside Wembley Stadium at the UEFA EURO 2020 Final on Sunday 11 July 2021.

“We informed DCMS at the weekend that an independent review led by Baroness Casey of Blackstock has been commissioned to report on the facts and circumstances involved. It will speak to all parties concerned and include external experts.

“A key emphasis of the findings will be to ensure that lessons are learned and such disgraceful scenes are never able to be repeated. We continue to work with the relevant authorities in support of their efforts to identify those responsible and hold them to account.”

Last week, Julian Knight MP, the chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, wrote to Mark Bullingham, the FA’s CEO, to demand an explanation for the “shocking” scenes at Wembley.

In a letter to Bullingham Knight wrote: “The scenes witnessed at Wembley Stadium during the Euro 2020 final were shocking.

“The sheer number of ticketless people breaching the temporary, and arguably insufficient, barriers and physically attacking stewards and police to force their way into the match was appalling.

“Reports across social media of unsafe numbers in the stalls and terrified children being intimidated by the intruders did not line up with the stadium’s statement that a small number of people had successfully entered the stadium without a ticket.

“In the FA’s statement on the matter, it stated that ‘security and stewarding numbers for the Euro 2020 final exceeded the requirements for the match and were greater than any other previous event’ at the venue. Clearly the numbers were still insufficient.”

SERAP gives Nigerian govt 24 hours to withdraw NBC order to TV, radio stations on reporting of terrorist attacks

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari urging him to urgently instruct Mr Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to withdraw the directive containing a “sweeping gag order banning journalists and broadcast stations from reporting details of terrorist attacks and victims across the country.”

The NBC had in a letter dated 7 July, 2021 issued a directive asking journalists, television and radio stations in Nigeria to stop “glamourising and giving too many details on the nefarious activities of terrorists and kidnappers” during their daily newspaper reviews.

Reacting, SERAP in a letter dated 17 July, 2021 and signed by its deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare said: “The contents of the directive by the NBC to journalists and broadcast stations are entirely inconsistent and incompatible with Nigeria’s obligations under article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.”

SERAP said: “We would be grateful if the repressive directive is withdrawn within 24 hours of the receipt and/or publication of this letter. If we have not heard from you by then, the SERAP shall take all appropriate legal actions in the public interest.”

The organization expressed “grave concern that the contents of the NBC directive would impermissibly restrict the rights to freedom of expression, information, and victims’ right to justice and effective remedies that are central to public debate and accountability in a democratic society.”

SERAP said: “Reporting on the growing violence and killings in many parts of the country is a matter of public interest. The NBC directive to journalists and broadcast stations to stop reporting these cases, coupled with the possibility of fines and other punishment, would have a disproportionate chilling effect on the work of those seeking to hold the government accountable to the public.”

The letter, read in part: “The broad definitions of what may constitute ‘too many details’, ‘glamourising’, ‘divisive rhetoric’, and ‘security issues’ heighten concerns of overreach, confer far-reaching discretion on the government, and suggest that the NBC directive is more intrusive than necessary.”

“These words and phrases do not indicate precisely what kind of individual conduct would fall within their ambit.”

The vague and overbroad definitions of ‘too many details’, ‘glamourising’, ‘divisive rhetoric’, and ‘security issues’ also raise concern that the NBC directive unduly interferes with the rights to freedom of expression and information, and is disproportionate to any purported legitimate governmental aim. Ill-defined and/or overly broad directives are open to arbitrary application and abuse.”

“The use of these words and phrases by the NBC, given their opaque and ambiguous meaning, leaves open the possibility for application beyond unequivocal incitement to hatred, hostility or violence. Such words and phrases may function to interpret legitimate reporting by broadcast stations, journalists, and other Nigerians as unlawful.”

Exacerbating these concerns are growing restriction of civic space, the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, and the attempts by your government to push for the amendment of the Nigeria Press Council Act and the National Broadcasting Commission Act, to further suppress media freedom, freedom of expression and access to information.”

Allowing the media to freely carry out their duties is essential to building a secure society and leaving no one behind. Conversely, imposing impermissible restrictions on broadcast stations, journalists and other Nigerians undermines the security that builds a healthy and vibrant society.”

“Article 19(1) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights establishes the right to freedom of opinion without interference. Article 19(2) establishes Nigeria’s obligations to respect and ensure this right, which includes the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, and through any media of one’s choice.”

“Under article 19(3), restrictions on the right to freedom of expression must be ‘provided by law’, and necessary ‘for respect of the rights or reputations of others’ or ‘for the protection of national security or of public order, or of public health and morals’.”

Although article 19(3) recognizes ‘national security’ as a legitimate aim, the Human Rights Council, the body charged with monitoring implementation of the Covenant, has stressed ‘the need to ensure that invocation of national security is not used unjustifiably or arbitrarily to restrict the right to freedom of opinion and expression.’”

“Since article 19(2) promotes so clearly a right to information of all kinds, this indicates that your government bears the burden of justifying any restriction on reporting of cases of violence and killings, and withholding of such information as an exception to that right.”

“Any restrictions should be applied strictly so that they do not put in jeopardy the right itself. The NBC directive to broadcast stations fails to meet the requirements of legality, necessity and proportionality.”

The requirement of necessity also implies an assessment of the proportionality of restrictions such as those being imposed by the NBC, with the aim of ensuring that restrictions target a specific objective and do not unduly intrude upon the rights of targeted persons.”

“The interference with the constitutional and legal duties of journalists and broadcast stations cannot be justified in the context of the right to information, as the NBC directive has not shown that their reporting would impose a specific risk of harm to a legitimate State interest that outweighs the public’s interest in such information.”

“The NBC directive may also create an environment that unduly deters and penalizes broadcast stations and journalists, and the reporting of government wrongdoing more generally.”

The Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom expression has concluded that national security considerations should be ‘limited in application to situations in which the interest of the whole nation is at stake, which would thereby exclude restrictions in the sole interest of a government, regime, or power group.’”

“SERAP notes the collective interdependency of the compendium of constitutional and international human rights, which function to collectively complement and enhance the advancement of the security and rights of each individual in society.”

“We hope that the aspects highlighted will help guide your actions in acting to ensure that Nigerian journalists and media can freely carry out their constitutional duties as contained in Section 22 of the Nigerian Constitution.”

While your government has the obligation to maintain national security, this obligation is not set apart from the obligation to protect and ensure human rights. National security is a necessary and integral part of the right to security guaranteed to each person individually.”

“According to our information, the NBC called for ‘caution’ by broadcasters while reporting security challenges in the country. The directive, titled: ‘Newspaper Reviews And Current Affairs Programmes: A Need For Caution’, was signed by the Director, Broadcast Monitoring, Francisca Aiyetan, on behalf of the new Director-General of the Commission, Balarabe Ilelah.”

If you haven’t found your purpose in life, stay single – Reno Omokri to men

Nigerian socio-political critic, Reno Omokri has advised men to be sure to find their purpose in life before deciding to find a wife.

Omokri explained that a man ought to find his purpose in life first and after this is done, a good wife will naturally come his way.

Using a biblical reference, the author stated that God created Eve only when Adam identified his purpose, which was taking care of the garden of Eden.

He wrote: “Dear men,

If you have not found your purpose or success, don’t find a wife, because you won’t be able to fund her. If you find a wife before finding your purpose and success, most likely, you have found trouble.

When you find purpose and success, the right woman will find you. God only brought Eve to Adam when Adam found his purpose (caring for the Garden of Eden). You do not need a wife simply because you have sensual urges. You need a wife when you have a life that is successful enough to accommodate other people.”

Rachel Weisz doesn’t want James Bond spoilers from husband Daniel Craig.

achel Weisz says she doesn’t try to get James Bond spoilers out of her husband Daniel Craig, as she’d rather know as little as possible when she sits down to watch the movies for the first time.

While promoting Marvel’s Black Widow, in which she plays the titular hero’s adoptive mother Melina Vostokoff, the Oscar winner was asked who’s the loosest-lipped at home when it comes to spilling the beans about their respective franchises.

“You know something, we really don’t talk about our work very much,” Weisz laughed as she chatted with ComicBook’s Brandon Davis. “I think that’s one thing that we’re quite similar in we like to really take a break. So we’re quite secretive about our work.

“We just don’t really talk about it that much. I love seeing his work, but I don’t want it ruined by talking about it first.”

In the same interview, Weisz went on to say that she would be “very interested” in reprising the role of Russian scientist Melina in any future MCU instalments. In the comics, Melina goes on to become known as Iron Maiden, having become resentful after years of living in the legendary Black Widow’s shadow.

While the new movie alluded to her literary story as part of a narrative fake-out, its version of Melina seems a bit more friendly. Whether she’ll stay that way though, if she were to return within Phase 4, is anyone’s guess.

Set during the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow sees Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) team up with her estranged “family” and attempt to take down the Red Room, the training program that brainwashed her and forced her to undergo awful medical procedures when she was younger.

Little Women’s Florence Pugh, The Handmaid’s Tale actor O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone and Stranger Things star David Harbour round out the cast of the Cate Shortland-directed picture.
