Voice of Nigeria journalist murdered in Zamfara

The Zamfara council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has confirmed the murder of Hamisu Danjibga, a Voice of Nigeria (VON) correspondent. The death was announced on Wednesday.

A statement by the NUJ secretary, Ibrahim Ahmad, said the deceased’s body was dumped in a soakaway.

“The discovery of his corpse was a result of an unpleasant odour observed by children of an Islamic school behind his house in the evening of Wednesday, September 20, 2023,” said the NUJ statement.

“After breaking the soakaway, the dead body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbours.”

Mr Danjibga had been missing for three days before his corpse was found.Sources said the family was initially contacted to pay N1 million for his release.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested a suspect.

The NUJ extended its condolences to the deceased’s family and VON.

It urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the journalist’s death and bring the perpetrators to book.
