Ogun monarch’s son, woman found dead inside car without clothes

Azeez Ilias, a 37-year-old son of a traditional ruler in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been found dead in his car parked in front of a building at Ago Egun in the Idiroko area of the state.

Ilias who was said to be the son of the Baale of Idoforo community in the state was reportedly found with a dead woman simply identified as Deborah.

Confirming the incident in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the two persons were found without clothes at the location.

Although Oyeyemi noted that they could have been murdered by unknown persons, he said the outcome of an investigation into the incident should be awaited.

Yes, we are investigating. We want to know what led to the death of the two of them. We are suspecting that they were murdered, we are highly suspecting that.

We don’t want to pre-empt what the outcome of the investigation is going to be. Let’s conclude our investigation for further details about the incident,” Oyeyemi said.

Also, Moruf Yusuf, a spokesman for the Idiroko Divisional Headquarters of So-Safe Corps – a state government-owned indigenous security outfit, had confirmed the incident to reporters on Tuesday, saying the bodies were discovered at about 2 am on Monday.

It was gathered that the dead man’s clothes were found inside a gutter in front of a house suspected to be the residence of the dead woman.

“The robust relationship between the So-Safe corps and the Ogun State Police Command yielded a wonderful result as the So-Safe Corps, a state agency and Idiroko Police Divisional Headquarters jointly smelt a car parked to be suspicious and as approached, found two bodies lying lifeless in the car,” Yusuf said.

A military officer who was abducted by bandits from the Nigerian Defence Academy Afaka, Kaduna State, Major Stephen Datong, has been found dead.

A source told SaharaReporters that Datong was killed by the bandits only two hours after.

“Major Datong who was kidnapped early this morning inside the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna has been found dead two hours ago,” the source said.

This comes after the bandits had reportedly demanded N200million ransom for his release.

It was gathered that body was found on Tuesday evening.

Datong is said to be expecting a child with his wife.

Former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu Is Dead

The former deputy president of the senate, Ibrahim Mantu is dead.

Mantu reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday.

He is said to have been sick for days and died in isolation at a private hospital in the federal capital territory (FCT).

The former lawmaker is expected to be laid to rest later today in Abuja.

Mantu was elected as the senator representing Plateau central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999.

He was elected deputy president of the senate in August 2001.

He was 74.

Veteran actress Rachel Oniga is dead

Veteran Nollywood actress, Rachel Oniga has died.

Ripples Nigeria gathered that the Chief Daddy actress died on Friday, July 30.

She was scheduled to resume for another film shoot on Saturday, July 31 when the news of her death filtered into town.

Stakeholders in the TV and film industry confirmed her passing away.

Nollywood film director, and film festival founder, Fidelis Duker confirmed Oniga’s death.

He said: ‘Another Iroko has fallen. It’s true Rachel Oniga is dead. She died last night. It’s a sad loss for Nollywood.’

CEO of Best Of Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi also confirmed the incident.

He said: “it’s sad we lost Madam Oniga. I heard and after confirmation, I was told that Madam Oniga has gone to be with the Lord.”

Oniga has featured in over 200 productions – TV and films.

One dead, nine injured as masquerade attacks mosque in Osogbo

There was confusion in Osogbo, the Osun State capital when a man identified as Moshood Salawudeen, was shot dead, while nine other worshippers were injured when a masquerade and its followers reportedly attacked a mosque.

It was gathered that the masquerade and its followers were passing through Oluode Aranyin’s compound where the mosque was located, when the worshippers were having prayers under a canopy near the mosque on Sunday.

It was also learnt that the attackers damaged the windows and doors of the mosque.

Speaking to newsmen on Monday, the Chief Imam of the mosque, Alhaji Quoseem Yunus, said there was no former disagreement with the masquerade, noting that the group had initially passed through the area without attacking the worshippers.

He said, “We were outside our mosque, having special prayers on Sunday when the masquerade and his men appeared. Four policemen were with them.

“They passed us by and moved down. They later returned to where we all sat and started pelting us with stones. They later shot at us and used machete on us. One person was killed. We have taken the corpse to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Morgue. Nine others are receiving treatment in other hospitals in Osogbo.”

Efforts to reach the Osun Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, proved abortive as of the time of this report.

Veteran actress, Ify Onwuemene is dead

Veteran Nollywood actress, Ify Onwuemene has died after a long-standing battle with cancer.

The news of her death was announced by actress, Gloria Anozie-Young on her Facebook page.

Recall that Ify, who was popular for her role in the popular sitcom ‘Everyday People’, first spoke up in 2019 after a silent struggle with the illness, and got support from fans and well-wishers.

Sadly, she died on the 25th of May 2021 as confirmed by Gloria Anozie-Young.

Gloria’s post reads; “With a deep sense of loss but total submission to God Almighty, we regret to announce that IFEY ONWUEMENE has gone to be with the Lord.

“IFEY ONWUEMENE was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Her womb was removed, but she has been battling the ailment for many years now.

“In 2019, even after eight sessions of chemotherapy, the doctors told her she had reached stage 4. However, we are not sure if she was given the wrong diagnosis or being treated with the wrong chemo, because she still felt pains on her upper abdomen and her tummy was bloated.

Ify spent more than N10m, being helped with donations by her fellow actors and other Nigerians. A GoFundMe account was opened for her, but it did not yield much. She had to go for draining every two weeks at a cost of N280,000, but only 3 litres of liquid can be removed at a time so that her heart is not affected.

IFEY has finally gone to rest, today 25th May 2021. May her soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Patrol vans set ablaze as Okada riders, Police clash over shooting of bikeman in Lagos (Video)

At least three vehicles were burnt and two patrol vans vandalised when Okada riders and policemen attached to the Elemoro Division Police Station in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State clashed on Monday.

It was gathered that the incident occurred when police officers apprehended a motorcyclist who drove against traffic. The motorcyclist was said to have been shot dead for unknown reasons.

In protest, other Okada riders stormed the Elemoro police station and burnt three vehicles and vandalised two patrol vans parked within the premises.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejebi, however, said the police station was not set ablaze.

Adejobi in a statement also said another police station in the Ile-Epo area of the state was also not set ablaze.

The statement read, “The Lagos State Police Command has tactically repelled some hoodlums who attempted to set ablaze the Oke Odo Division of the command today 24th May, 2021 and twelve (12) of them were arrested. The command wishes to state clearly that no live was lost and the Police Station was never burnt.”

Missing 300-level IMSU Law student found dead in Imo hospital mortuary

A Law student of the Imo State University, Owerri, who was declared missing, has been found dead after five days.

Kingsley Chiwueze, was on Monday, April 26 declared missing after efforts made to find him proved abortive.

The 300-level student who is a native of Oguta Local Government Area of the state, was involved in student union politics and declared his intention to run for the office of Senate President of the National Association of Imo State Students two weeks ago.

The President, Students Union Government, IMSU, Arinze Oguike, who confirmed the development, said the corpse was found in the morgue of the Umuguma General Hospital, Owerri, on Sunday.

He said students of the institution stormed the mortuary and the attendant told them that the corpse was deposited by the management of the St. Joseph Hospital, Wetheral, Owerri.

The student leader said “The attendant told us that Chiwueze’s corpse was brought by people from the St. Joseph hospital, Wetheral. We will go to the hospital to find out how they took custody of the student.”

When The Punch contacted the IMSU spokesman, Ralph Njokuobi, he said he would communicate with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Akah, about the discovery.

The Imo state police spokesman, Orlando Ikeokwu, said that he had not been briefed about the latest development.

Missing Akwa Ibom Job Seeker Found Dead, Friend Says She Was Raped, Killed, Buried In Shallow Grave

A friend of the missing lady, @UmohUduak1, confirmed this on her Twitter handle on Sunday.

A young graduate and job seeker, Iniubong Umoren, has been killed and buried in a shallow grave in Akwa Ibom State.

Uduak, in various tweets on her handle, said her friend was raped before she was killed. She wrote, “They have finally killed me”; “Jesus Christ”; “They killed my friend and buried my friend”; “They raped and killed my friend.”

She had earlier pleaded for help over the recovery of her missing friend who had gone job-hunting on the outskirts of Uyo.

A Twitter thread, “#FindHinyHumoren was created to this effect.”

Umoren, a fresh graduate of the University of Uyo had dropped a tweet on her handle on Tuesday seeking a job and had got many replies in that regard. 

She wrote, “#AkwaIbomTwitter please I’m really in need of a job, something to do to keep mind and soul together while contributing dutifully to the organisation. My location is Uyo, I’m creative, really good at thinking critically and most importantly a fast learner. CV available on request.”

She was allegedly invited by a young man, Frank Ezekiel Akpan, suspected to have kidnapped her as calls to her telephone lines are not connecting.

@UmohUduak1 explained that her friend had gone for an interview at Airport Road, Uyo and while trying to call her friend, heard some screams which raised her suspicion.

In separate tweets, @UmohUduak explained, “Y’all my friend @HinyHumoren is in trouble and she needs our help. I’m currently in Lagos and I can’t help than to put this out there. Earlier today, she told me she was going for a job interview at airport road which is quite far from her house. 

“To cut everything short, she sent me a 1-second audio record on WhatsApp and I had to call her back to know if she wanted to say something to me but immediately I called her. I heard her screaming. Someone, please help her out.

Many Nigerians had trended the hashtag and some volunteered to help in tracking the location, phone numbers and other details of the suspects. 

The suspects in the case have been arrested by the police. The prime suspect, Ezekiel Frank Akpan was picked up. His father and some other accomplices had been arrested earlier.

Akpan, on Friday, had taken to his Facebook page to debunk the allegation without further proof of his innocence.

He also denied having met the young lady when picked up by the police but according to @UmohUduak_1, the prime suspect has confessed to have raped and killed Umoren.

Also, it was gathered that Akpan had taken Umoren to his house and a fight ensued between them. In the process, he used an object to hit her in the head, which resulted in her death.

He was alleged to have hurriedly buried her in a shallow grave and run to another area (Oron) to hide. 

Following the pressure mounted by Nigerians on social media, he could no longer stay at Oron and ran to Uruan.

The chairman of Uruan Local Government Area was said to have met the suspect’s cousin and requested that the suspect be brought to him.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the Chairman who handed him over to the police.

Nigerians on social media are lamenting the death of Umoren.

Two dead, others injured, in Anambra lone crash

Two persons died on Sunday night in a lone autocrash along Obiuno Road Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state.

Two other persons sustained injury in the accident that involved a Lexus ES350 car with registration number KSF 403 GD.

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Andrew Kumapayi said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary while urging motorists to desist from speeding

He said: “An Unidentified driver of a Lexus ES350 car with registration number KSF 403 GD was involved in the fatal crash.

A total of four persons were involved in the crash comprising 2 male adults and 2 female adults

“Two persons, 1 male and I female adult sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to Apex hospital Igboukwu, while 2 persons (1 male adult the driver and 1 female adult) were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“Their body deposited at Apex Mortuary by a good Samaritan before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from Igboukwu Command.”

Media outlets in Uruguay have confirmed the death of 25 year old Franco Acosta, the center forward has been missing since Saturday 6th of March, after he tried to cross a river. The terrible incident happened during an outing organised to celebrate his 25th birthday, it’s indeed a dark month for Uruguayan football and the world football at large.

 The former U-20 Uruguay National team player, Franco Acosta, was last seen on 6th March 2021, attempting to swim with his brother across Arroyo Pando (a river), located in the Department of Canelones in Uruguay, when he disappeared. A police search was launched but unfortunately his lifeless body was later found, confirming that he died by drowning.

Franco Acosta was a former Villarreal youth player between 2015 and 2020, he was without a club until August 2020, when he signed with Atenas de San Carlos (an Uruguayan team), which was his current team, before the unfortunate incident. He was among the Uruguay youth international players to feature in the American youth tournament in 2015, where he scored two goals against Chile and overall netted in 6 goals.

This Man And His Girlfriend Were Found Dead Yesterday, Read The Suicide Note He Posted On Facebook Earlier

In the early hours of yesterday, it was reported that two lovers were found dead in their apartment after they allegedly drank a poisonous substance believed to be snipper. The man identified as Emmanuel Evans Okafor and his beautiful girlfriend identified as Amaka Okafor both died hours after he posted a suicide note on Facebook and tagged her to the post.

According to his post, Emmanuel Evans Okafor said that he does not believe that he will for once type a long suicide note, adding that he has been depressed and no one knows what he has been going through for a while now and that he has lost his peace of mind. He said he once thought that money was everything but later realized that money can never buy peace of mind and he urged as many that sleeps and wakes up peacefully to be grateful to God for it is a privilege. He advised the people not to live that their lives alone and they should try as much as possible to put a smile on the faces of others because a lot of people are depressed.

“Nothing matters most to humanity than someone to be happy when he/she hears your name, be the reason for someone’s happiness,” he added.

He said that it is a pity that he has to leave this sinful world this way and that he is sorry to anyone he would disappoint by carrying out such an abominable act of suicide. He said it is very easy for someone to say suicide is never an option and that he does not wish for anyone to go through what he went through.

We are not sure why this man and his girlfriend decided to take their lives but from the suicide note he dropped on Facebook and tagged his lover, it shows that they went through tough times.

Nollywood Legend, Desmond Asuzu is dead, according to reports in Vangaurd.

The online newspaper was informed that he slumped and died around 9pm on Tuesday. His wife was said to have called fellow actor Desmond Elliot to announce the death to him.

Azuzu who suffered stroke sometime ago was practically begging shoppers money to eat at some point in his life. When the news surfaced online, some colleagues in the industry including the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano rallied round to support him.

Asuzu began his acting career in the ’90s and rose to prominence after he starred in the 1997 Nollywood classic, ‘Rituals’ He was the toast of Nollywood until his career nosedived after he came down with a stroke in 2015 and it affected his speech. He was also bedridden for three years.

28 feared dead in Iraq’s blasts

At least 28 people were feared dead and 73 others injured as a twin suicide blast ripped through a crowded market in Bagdad, Iraq’s capital in Thursday.

However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack occurred as Iraqi security forces pursued two suicide bombers who detonated their explosives in the market near Tayaran Square, according to military spokesman, Yahya Rasool.

The last deadly suicide blast in the Iraqi capital took place in January 2018, also at Tayaran Square, killing at least 27 people.

Iraq’s Health Ministry announced all of its hospitals in the capital were mobilized to treat the wounded.

The suicide bombings marked the first in three years to target Baghdad’s bustling commercial area.

‘Killer’ smiles in mugshot after girl, 17, found dead in a CEMETERY

A SUSPECT has been arrested for the alleged shooting murder of a teen girl whose slain body was found in a Georgia cemetery.

Jaylan Jashad Ray, 22, who is accused of killing Atlanta teenager D’Shaunti Kyanni Hunter, 17, was detained in Tallahassee, Florida, on Wednesday, and is awaiting extradition back to Georgia.

Hunter’s body was found in a cemetery across the road from Unionville Church in Barnesville, about 50 miles south of Atlanta — and 40 miles from her home in Ellenwood — on Sunday afternoon, according to Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim sustained “at least one gunshot wound”, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators have taken out warrants against Ray for murder and aggravated assault, police said in an online statement.

“A tip received that afternoon led detectives to Albany, where a search was conducted at Ray’s mother’s apartment,” Lamar County Sheriff Brad White said.

“They uncovered enough evidence at the apartment to secure murder warrants for Mr. Ray.”

Deputies were called to the scene about 2.30 pm on Sunday after a body – identified as Hunter’s the following day – was spotted in the cemetery by a family who was visiting their mother’s grave, Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

“They looked at the back of the cemetery, about 100 yards away, and thought somebody had dumped trash or something,” White continued. “So they went back there and saw that it was a young lady on the ground. They immediately left and called 911.”

The gruesome discovery came about 24 hours after Hunter was last seen alive, according to the outlet.

“This is crushing us,” Hunter’s aunt, Jazmine Johnson, told Channel 2 Action News on Tuesday.

“They stole from us,”she added.

“This is wrong. This is way more than wrong.”

White told Channel 2 that investigators found tire tracks where Hunter’s body was located. They believe the person who killed her drove her to the cemetery, AJC reports.

It’s not clear if Hunter was shot and killed in the cemetery or transported there following her death.

The cause of death also hasn’t been confirmed.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to AJC, there were at least 155 homicides in Atlanta over the course of 2020.

That marked the city’s highest murder count since 1998, when 154 homicides took place. Just 99 were investigated in 2019.

“I am deeply concerned about the spike that we are seeing in our homicides,” Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told the AJC.

A Nigerian man, Ugbala Godday Chukwudi from Ebonyi State is mourning his wife and daughter who died in a road accident in Lagos. 

27-year-old Deborah and her daughter, Anastasia Ezinne, 2, were killed in a road crash that occurred at Odongunyan Bus Stop, along Ikorodu/Sagamu Expressway on January 3, 2021. 

Mother and child have been laid to rest on Friday, January 15, 2021, in her hometown, Ainu Ugboba Ete in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

Taking to Facebook today, after their funeral, the distraught widower, also known as Splash, penned a tribute to his wife and daughter, describing them as the light of his life.

“My dear wife and lovely daughter you both were the light of my life and I cannot express the grief I feel at your sudden departure,” he wrote.

“May God bless your souls. My love, it is hard to believe that you have left this beautiful world behind, but I am sure you and my lovely daughter are in a better place now. A thousand words won’t bring you guys back, I know because I’ve tried; Neither will a thousand tears, I know because I’ve cried. But 1 strong believe i have is that Our memories together will keep me going. I feel your presence even though you have gone. I hand you both over to God.”

A Lecturer With A Wife And 2-Year-Old Daughter Who Became A Taxi Driver Found Dead in Abakiliki.

It seems that since the EndSars Protests rocked Abakiliki the capital city of Ebonyi State which was hijacked by disgruntled elements in the society, it has not been same. The insecurity has worsened in the state with killings, violence and robbery becoming order of the day. Recently the news carried it that Onueke Police station was burnt by unknown Gunmen and 3 police officers were killed and arms carted away.

Another bad news has set in where a lecturer in the Department of Physiology in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo was shot dead. According to the news the lecturer who is simply identified as Kyria has turned his private car to commercial car popularly known as taxi cab in Abakiliki to make ends meet. He was forced to take such option after six months of not receiving his salary due to ASUU strike in Nigeria. It will be recalled that ASUU has been in faceoff with federal government which made Government to withhold salaries of the striking lecturers.

The lecturer has a wife and a 2-year-old daughter. He was using his car for taxi to be able to cater for the family as a last resort. Last Sunday it was reported that the lecturer was called by a customer to come and pick him at Udemezue street in Abakiliki and take him to a popular eatery known for native delicacies at Ogoja Road Abakiliki Ebonyi State. Kyrian did not make it as he was never seen but his lifeless body was later found with ridden bullets on 11th day of January 2021 at Rice Mill along the same Ogoja Road Abakiliki Ebonyi State. His car was stolen and still missing at the time of this report. The news was posted by Charles Kelechi Iteshi the media aid to the Hon. Chinedu Ogah who is representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency in Abakiliki in his Facebook page. 

Going by the way it happened, it is believed he was lured out by armed robbers who are after his car. The police is yet to comment on the death of the lecturer.
