The organizers of the Ballon d’Or, France Football, have opted not to award Lionel Messi with the Super Ballon d’Or award, according to Marca.
Messi is expected to be named the winner of the 2023 prize at an event that will be held in Paris, France on Monday.
It will be the eighth time the 36-year-old will win it, more than anyone else in history.
However, there were suggestions to award him the trophy given to the best player in the past three decades.
Alfredo Di Stefano is the only player to ever win the Super Ballon d’Or award.
The Real Madrid legend in the 1950s won five consecutive European Championships with the Spanish giants and scored 308 goals overall.
Di Stefano received the award in 1989 from France Football after being voted by many previous Ballon d’Or winners.
