The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have suspended their nationwide strike which entered one day on Monday. .
Disclosing this on Tuesday in Abuja after the union held a joint extraordinary national executive council meeting with the NLC, the TUC President Festus Osifo, said a communiqué to that effect would soon be issued.
Confirming the suspension of the industrial action to Channels Television, Mr Osifo said, “A joint NEC meeting of TUC/NLC has approved to relax the industrial action for one week with immediate effect.”
This latest development came after both unions signed an agreement with the Federal Government at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The mass action by both unions was over the failure of the government to meet its demands for the increment in the minimum wage for workers and the reversal of the hike in electricity tariff.
The industrial action witnessed the shutdown of the national electricity grid, government offices, hospitals, airports, amongst others.
