Hippopotamus kills Emir of Yauri’s guard in Kebbi

A mother hippopotamus that is nursing a baby has killed Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at an orchard owned by the Emir of Yauri in Kebbi State, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi.

According to reports, 60-year-old Maigadi was attacked by the hippopotamus while he was fishing in Yauri River at Tillo Village in Yauri LGA on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

There were speculations that the animal may have perceived Maigadi as coming to harm its baby, hence the attack in self- defence.

The governor prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
