Governor Umahi Orders Arrest Of APC Chairman, Reps Candidate Over Killings In Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha.

The governor also ordered the arrest of the APC candidate for Afikpo North/Afikpo South Federal Constituency, Chief Eni Uduma Chima over the killing of three persons in the Ekoli Edda area of the state.

It was gathered that Umahi gave the order when he embarked on a visit to the area to assess the level of damage caused by the violence earlier experienced there.

He directed the state police commissioner, CP Aliyu Garba, to arrest all those connected with the killing and ensure they are brought to justice.

Announcing the suspension of all social gatherings in Edda until normalcy returns to the area, Governor Umahi urged the police boss to beef up security in the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.

It was gathered that as of Tuesday evening, the whole Ekoli Edda had been overtaken by the combined team of the police, the army and operatives of the South-East security outfit, codenamed Ebubeagu.

Sahara Reporters earlier reported how a clash between Ebubeagu operatives and some youths in Ekoli Edda community led to the death of three persons including a middle-aged man identified as Eseni Kalu Egwu.

It was reported that the incident occurred when Okoro-Emegha arrived in the community with Ebubeagu operatives. A few hours after the clash, some hoodlums marched to the APC chairman’s home and set it on fire.
