Popular singer, Teniola Apata, aka Teni D’Entertainer, has advised fellow entertainers to invest part of their earnings or go broke in future.

Speaking during an Instagram live session with media personality, Adesope Olajide, she said, “One of the greatest artistes of all time, Micheal Jackson, went broke. All this love people are saying that they love you, enjoy it, but don’t get it twisted. Be smart. Prepare for your future. Save and invest. As we speak, having money in a Nigerian bank is as useless as paper. Naira is going to depreciate and one’s money is going to be useless. So, look for ways to invest and where to invest your money in order to multiply it. Your life (as a celebrity) is not like anybody’s life. You cannot go back to the job market. Even if you don’t care, people would look down on you. As an artiste, one has to prepare. One’s future is very important.

“Artistes have a time frame (to be in the spotlight). Don’t forget that. When it is your time, use it well and prepare for your future. At least, have a house and make sure you have something that is bringing you money. You should not go around begging, so that people would not say, ‘Let’s donate for this person’.”

Teni also recalled that Davido had predicted that she would turn out to be a huge star a long time ago. Explaining why Davido was the only artiste she featured on her debut album, ‘Wondaland’, she said, “Davido is such an amazing guy. He is special. I had known David right from Atlanta, United States of America. I remember that I met him in a studio and he said to me, ‘Go back to Nigeria, you are going to be a huge star’. He motivated me with those words and it was just right for me to do something with him. He was already a star at the time. Imagine Davido telling me, ‘Do your thing. You can actually do this thing’.”

Actress, Tonto Dikeh, has said that rapists should either face the death penalty or be castrated.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “In Nigeria, cases of rape are fast assuming a threatening dimension that requires urgent intervention. Rape, like other forms of violence against women, is an infringement on women’s rights, privacy, self-preservation and dignity. There is little or no policy or law that protect the victims as they are most times blamed, stigmatised and humiliated by society if it is brought to the public domain. This hinders victims from embracing a mindset of reporting such an inhumane crime to the appropriate authorities.

“I believe that any person found guilty of rape should be sentenced to death either by hanging, firing squad, lethal injection or electrocution. I would also recommend castration. Rape cases and sexual molestations have become the order of the day, and the victims are not getting enough justice. Most of these perpetrators still walk freely.”

The mother of one also urged victims to be vocal about their plights. She added, “Yes, we can eradicate rape and work towards zero tolerance. Firstly, we need to speak out against the root causes. Rape culture festers when we buy into ideas of masculinity that see violence and dominance as ‘strong’ and ‘manly’, and when women and girls are less valued. It is also underpinned by victim-blaming—an attitude that suggests a victim, rather than the perpetrator, bears responsibility for an assault. When discussing cases of sexual violence, a victim’s sobriety, clothes and sexuality are irrelevant. Instead, we need to counter the idea that men and boys must obtain power through violence and question the notion of sex as an entitlement. The law on rape should be amended and its definition expanded.”

Soldiers Storm Kidnappers’ Den In Kwara Forest, Arrest Two, Recover 100 Dollar Bills.

Two Fulani Kidnappers were arrested on Friday afternoon after soldiers burst a hideout of kidnappers in Oke Ero area of Kwara State.

The soldiers, acting on intelligence, stormed the forest in between Kwara and Ekiti states and arrested the Fulani kidnappers.SaharaReporters learnt that the soldiers, acting on intelligence stormed the forest in between Kwara and Ekiti states and arrested the Fulani kidnappers, recovering 100 dollar notes from them.

A source in the area noted that the kidnappers had been notorious for several kidnapping incidents in the area, adding that the criminals had “just collected ransoms from some of their victims.”

Another source stated that the suspects were believed to be among those who had abducted Oba David Oyewumi, the Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti, who was abducted in the Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State but rescued in a forest in Kwara State.

Sunday Abutu, spokesman for Ekiti police command, had confirmed last week that the monarch was released in a forest in Kwara State.

“I can confirm that the ruler has been released from captivity. He has also been reunited with his family,” Abutu said.

“He is receiving medical attention in one of the facilities in the state as a result of the trauma he went through.”

The kidnappers had reportedly demanded N20 million ransom amidst speculations that the monarch’s family and associates raised the money before he was released by his abductors.

“The Nigerian Army personnel were contacted after the release of the monarch to go after the abductors. It turned out that they were in Oke Ero forest in Kwara State, very close to Ekiti. Two of them have been arrested and we hope others will be arrested too,” the source stated.

Abutu, however, had noted that the command was not aware if there was ransom payment.

“All I can say is that his freedom was facilitated by the concerted actions taken by the police and other security agencies,” the police spokesman said.

Joe Komolafe, Amotekun corps commander in the state, said the monarch was found around Obbo Ayegunle in Ekiti LGA of Kwara with the support of vigilantes in Kwara.

“When we went into the bush, we tracked the traditional ruler to the area. The vigilantes from Kwara state joined our team and we were able to rescue him,” Komolafe said.

“No ransom was paid. We have brought him home and he is currently receiving medical attention.”

US gives priority to student visa applicants from Nigeria, others

The US States Government has announced plans to prioritize the issuance of student visa to applicants.

The United States Government has announced plans to prioritize the issuance of student visa to applicants.

According to a statement issued by the US mission in Nigeria, this was to ensure that Nigerian students resuming in the fall of 2021 got visa interview appointments in advance of their programme start date.

The US Mission Country Consular Coordinator, Susan Tuller, said that the Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos would make efforts to help student visa applicants by attending to them on time while keeping personnel and customers safe.

What the US mission Country Consular Coordinator is saying

Tuller, in her statement, said, “As we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff and customers, processing student visas remain a high priority for the U.S. mission in Nigeria.

We will increase the number of student visa appointments in May and June to ensure that we can offer appointments to as many students as possible.

If your U.S. studies are scheduled to begin this fall, we encourage you to schedule your appointment as quickly as possible.’’

She added that all student visa appointments must be booked through the U.S. Travel Docs website at www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/.

Tuller also warned applicants against the use of agents or third-party services, including touts, and fixers who broker visa appointments as they usually seek to benefit by charging a fee for their services and may not always provide the correct information.

This, she said could harm an applicant’s chances of qualifying for a visa.

She said, “Both Nigeria and the United States benefit when Nigerian students study at one of our world-class educational institutions.

To prepare for your U.S. educational opportunity, we encourage you to check out EducationUSA Advising Centers at our American Spaces in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, and Calabar, or at educationUSA.state.gov.’

According to the mission, over the last 21 years, EducationUSA Advising Centers in Nigeria have directly contributed to an increase in the number of highly qualified Nigerian applicants to U.S. institutions.

The mission added that in the 2019/2020 academic year, nearly 14,000 Nigerians pursued graduate and undergraduate degrees in the U.S.

Israel Crush: first victims are buried

Families in Israel have begun burying their dead after at least 45 people died in a crush at a crowded Orthodox Jewish festival overnight.

Some 150 people were also injured at the Lag B’Omer festival, near Mount Meron, when people became trapped in an overcrowded passageway.

Funerals were allowed to take place for victims who were positively identified.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised that an inquiry would ensure such a tragedy did not happen again.

Visiting the scene, he said it was one of the worst peacetime disasters the country had known.

One survivor who gave his name as David told Ynet news it had felt like a human wave had broken: “Our bodies were swept along by themselves. People were thrown up in the air – others were crushed on the ground.” Medics struggled to reach the injured in the ensuing chaos.

Those who died are believed to be predominantly men or boys as the crush at the largely gender-segregated event apparently happened in one of the men’s sections.

Some victims are believed to be foreign nationals. Israeli airline El Al has offered to assist family members of victims living abroad who wish to attend their loved ones’ funerals in Israel.

Sunday has been declared a national day of mourning.

How did the disaster happen?

The site includes several large gathering grounds with open-air stands and stages, connected by a network of paths. It was along one of those paths where witnesses said the crush of people began at around 01:00 local time (22:00 GMT Thursday).

Some witnesses said the incident had begun when police closed the passageway, said to be 3m (10ft) wide. Police sources told Haaretz newspaper some people had slipped on steps, causing dozens more to fall over. This was not officially confirmed.

An injured man lying on a hospital bed said a line of people in the front of the surging crowd had simply collapsed.

image captionBenjamin Netanyahu visited the scene in Mount Meron. He called the deaths a “heavy disaster”

“A pyramid of one on top of another was formed,” the unnamed man was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency. “People were piling up one on top of the other. I was in the second row. The people in the first row – I saw people die in front of my eyes.”

Dov Maisel, director of operations for volunteer-based emergency services organisation United Hatzalah, told the BBC he had never witnessed such a scene in his 30-year career.

“It felt like a surreal scene where we had over 20 people undergoing CPR by our teams, with limited ability to evacuate from the scene, simply because the place was too overwhelmed with people,” he said.

Witnesses say a police barricade prevented people from leaving the crowded area.

Israel’s state watchdog, the State Comptroller’s office, issued warnings in 2008 and 2011 of the risk of a disaster.

Special danger was posed by access roads and paths which “are narrow and not appropriate to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of people who visit the site”, the office was quoted as saying by the New York Times.

What was different this year was that bonfire areas were partitioned off as a Covid-19 precaution and this may have created unexpected choke-points for foot traffic, Reuters reports, quoting Israeli media.

Thousands of police officers closed down the event after the crush before helping evacuate attendees.

How did the police respond?

Investigators will look into whether there was any police misconduct, the justice ministry said.

Mr Netanyahu promised a “serious” investigation that “would ensure this kind of disaster never happens again”.

image captionSome witnesses said people fell down a narrow staircase before the crush

Regional police chief Shimon Lavi told reporters at the scene he took upon himself “the overall responsibility, for good and for bad” and was “ready for every inspection”.

He later told AFP news agency his officers had done all they could on a “tragic night”. Other police officials told local media people had slipped in the walkway and the crush had been “out of their control”.

An unnamed police source told Haaretz the incident could not have been prevented and the police were not to blame.

25-yrs-old Japanese woman arrested for death of 77-yrs-old billionaire husband

A 25-year-old Japanese woman, Saki Sudo, has been arrested for allegedly killing her billionaire husband, Kosuke Nozaki, on the suspicion that she fed him poison over a period of time.

Sudo was arrested on Thursday for the death of Nozaki who used to describe himself as the ‘Japanese Don Juan,’ after a series of investigations and autopsy revealed he did not die a natural death, just months into their marriage.

Nozaki, who was the president of a liquor sales company and real estate business, died in 2018 at the age of 77 of acute poisoning.

His widow, who was 22 at that time, is suspected of killing Nozaki by making him take a large amount of a stimulant drug orally, as there were no needle marks on his body, a police report said.

The report added that Sudo had allegedly researched stimulants on the internet before variously administering it to Nozaki.

Before his death, Nozaki had written how he spent ¥3 billion ($A35 million) on wooing 4000 beautiful women.

Nozaki, who was popular for his autobiography ‘Don Juan of Kishu’ reportedly said:

“The reason I make money is to date attractive women.

“When I find a woman of my type, tall and voluptuous, I would tell her, ‘I want to go out with you and have sex with you; I’ll give you ¥400,000 ($A4726) if you agree.”

Before his sudden death, Nozaki left a will saying he wanted to donate ¥1.3 billion ($A15 million) to the Wakayama city where he lived.

But because half of his fortune goes to his widow under civil law, the city in Wakayama, had been in talks with Sudo about splitting the money.

PDP NEC passes vote of confidence on embattled Secondus

The National Executive Committee (NEC), of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has passed a vote of confidence on the embattled National Chairman, Uche Secondus, following calls for his resignation by some party members.

In a communique issued on Thursday and signed by the party’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, at the end of its 91st emergency meeting in Abuja, the PDP NEC threw its weight behind the Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC), while calling on other party organs to do same.

The communique insisted that the party is satisfied with the Secondus-led NWC as it has carried out the mandate of the party with a lot of transparency.

NEC unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, as well as the member of the National Working Committee, NWC,” the communique reads.

Ripples Nigeria reported that PDP youths had stormed the NEC meeting to protest Secondus leadership of the party. They had demanded that he be sacked and a more vibrant person elected as chairman, if the party hopes to make an impact in the 2023 elections.

Many stakeholders and party chieftains have also called for the sacking of Secondus whom they have accused of financial mismanagement among other things.

The communique further reads, “NEC urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately declare a national state of emergency on security.

With regard to the programmes of our party, NEC expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the NWC in preparation for the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra state and asserted its readiness to do everything possible, within the confines of the law, to win the election.

“NEC also received reports on the e-registration of members as the NWC announced the membership of the committee set up to conduct the exercise.

“The Edo State Governor, Chief Godwin Obaseki has been appointed to serve as Chairman, while his Adamawa State counterpart, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, is appointed to serve as Deputy Chairman.

The statutory members of the committee are the National Organizing Secretary, National Treasurer, National Financial Secretary, Deputy National Secretary, and the National Publicity Secretary.

“Further nominations will be taken from the Board of Trustees, the National Assembly, Forum of State Chairmen as well as the youth and women demography of our Party”.

Nigeria Becoming A Huge Field Of Internally Displaced Persons’ Camps, Interfaith Media Centre Warns
The group expressed concern over the increasing number of widows and orphans in the country as a result of security challenges.

A Nigerian organisation working to promote trust and tolerance between Christian and Muslim communities, Interfaith Media Centre, has expressed fear that the country will turn into lnternally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps if nothing is done urgently to address the worsening insecurity.

The group expressed concern over the increasing number of widows and orphans in the country as a result security challenges.

These observations were contained in a communique issued at the end of its monthly forum with media on peace journalism in Kaduna state on Thursday.
The communique was signed by its co-Executive Directors, Pastor Dr. James Movel Wuye and Imam Dr. Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa, who also expressed dismay over the worsening rate of kidnapping and killing in the country.

“The Forum observed that if nothing is done about insecurity, Nigeria will be turned into IDPs’ camps, considering the high increase in number of widows and orphans.

“They further appealed to governments across the country to help address students and pupils to be given psycho-social counselling, so as to help address the challenges of the experience faced during their various predicaments.

“They plead with the government at both state and national levels on the need to provide them with better military and modern equipment so as to drastically continue to fight against the insurgency and banditry in the country.

“They describe the information received on the increased in tuition fees in some of the higher institutions, particularly in Kaduna State as a threat to western education and urged the state government to have a re-think considering the fact that failure to do that, the state will have a setback on our educational enrollment.

“They noted that women play vital role in promoting peaceful coexistence and unity at the family and community levels.

“The event, which usually organised by IMC on the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) was attended by coordinators from Kogi, Plateau, Kano, Katsina, Benue under the CIPP programme in attendance,” it stated.

The Forum was also attended by the District Head of Kufana (Hakimi), Titus Daudu.

Earlier, participants called for more action from the government, especially through massive recruitment into recognised civilian joint task forces like hunters “who will assist the security in the fight against insecurity in the country”.

The Forum urged some state governors and other public figures to stop utterances that can easily provoke the kidnappers to maltreat or even kill their victims.
“They lamented the proliferation of small and light arms in the hands of civilians as well as decried farmers/pastoralists’ clashes, especially in Benue state and other part of the country,” it said.

Regarding the controversial past pro-Islamic extremism views of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, the Forum urged Nigerians not to use it to escalate tension in the country, but to allow due process on the matter.
According to the Forum, unemployment in the country has led to many being recruited into criminal gangs, most especially among the youths who play active roles in perpetrating heinous crimes.

Lagos withholds viral amputee hawker’s N25million donation after detecting lies in her claim.

Lagos withholds viral amputee hawker’s N25million donation after detecting lies in her claim.

The Lagos State Government has withheld the donations made to amputee hawker, Mary Daniel, after discovering that she ”lied” about her condition.
Mary, who went viral while selling water in Oshodi, was discovered by kind hearted Nigerians after her story was shared on social media.
The single mother claimed she lost a leg in an accident that killed all passengers, including her parents, when she was a teenager.

She added that life became hard and she dropped out of school to fend for herself by selling on the street.
She said during an interview that she is an orphan with a baby and an aged grandmother to fend for.
Her story touched Nigerians and well-meaning people made donations which totaled 25 Million Naira.

This prompted the Lagos state government to step in to prevent criminals from taking advantage of her sudden fortune.
However, the state government has now discovered inconsistencies in her story, The Nation reports.
It was discovered that her father is alive and that she was amputated from birth, not as a result of an accident.

It was also learnt that Mary Daniel started receiving strange calls from those who staged her story with threats to reveal the truth unless she gave them their share of the money.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu immediately handed her over to officials of the social welfare for investigation in the presence of the police and some Kogi leaders, who attested her father was alive, following revelations her case was staged.
Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu told The Nation the young woman was in the custody of officials of the Social Welfare and not the police as earlier reported.

Bring U.S. soldiers to help tackle Nigeria’s insecurity – Buhari begs Biden

Nigeria’s President ,Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to the United States to reconsider relocating US Africa Command (AFRICOM) from Stuttgart, Germany, to Africa, nearer the Theatre of Operation, admonishing the international community to support the West African nation and the sub-region in tackling growing security challenges to avoid spillovers.

A statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina said Buhari spoke on Tuesday, in a virtual meeting with the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

The president said AFRICOM, which partners with countries to counter transnational threats, should be relocated to Africa to strengthen ongoing efforts to check the security situation, with likely effect on other nations.

The statement read; “The security challenges in Nigeria remain of great concern to us and impacted more negatively, by existing complex negative pressures in the Sahel, Central and West Africa, as well as the Lake Chad Region.

Compounded as the situation remains, Nigeria and her security forces remain resolutely committed to containing them and addressing their root causes. The support of important and strategic partners like United States cannot be overstated as the consequences of insecurity will affect all nations hence the imperative for concerted cooperation and collaboration of all nations to overcome these challenges.

“In this connection, and considering the growing security challenges in West and Central Africa, Gulf of Guinea, Lake Chad region and the Sahel, weighing heavily on Africa, it underscores the need for the United States to consider re-locating AFRICOM Headquarters from Stuttgart, Germany to Africa and near the Theatre of Operation’’.

The President said Nigeria will enhance collaborations in all forms, with friends and strategic partners, to work together for greater security for all, which remain the most significant condition for overcoming the existential challenges.

Buhari congratulated Blinken on his appointment by President Joe Biden, and commended the United States for the decision to repeal the immigration restriction known as the “Muslim ban’’, re-joining the World Health Organization (WHO) and Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Nigeria attaches great importance to its relations with the United States. Let me in this connection express appreciation to President Joe Biden for his welcome and reaching decision to repeal the Immigration restriction known as the ‘Muslim ban’ on travel and visas for citizens predominantly from Muslim Nations and African Countries, including Nigeria.

“I also wish to congratulate the United States for re-joining the World Health Organization (WHO) and Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The leadership of the United States in these two organizations is crucial for international community.

“This action is a demonstration of the United States commitment in championing and supporting international organizations with the aim to build a better world for all,’’ he added.

President Buhari noted that Nigeria remains resolute in her commitment to supporting global efforts as enshrined in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which seeks to limit global warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the President, the convening of the Climate Change Summit last week by President Biden was a strong indication of the renewed interest of the United States to the Paris Agreement.

I would like to extend our goodwill message to President Joe Biden and his Administration. May I also thank you for initiating this meeting, which I am confident, given your background and current position, you will use to promote the existing bilateral relations between our two countries,’’ the President said.

The Secretary of State said he was pleased to make Nigeria part of his “first virtual visit to Africa,” noting that Nigeria and the United States of America, share a lot in bilateral issues.

He added that he would be delighted to build on the foundation that was laid between the two countries over 60 years ago, disclosing that areas of discussion with Nigeria would include “how to build our economies back after the COVID-19 pandemic, security for vulnerable communities, and climate issues.”

Grenade-shaped sex toys get police attention in Germany

Explosive experts were called to investigate a suspicious device in the German state of Bavaria on Monday night, only to find it was a sex toy.

Officials said the grenade-shaped item was spotted in a clear plastic bag in a forest near the city of Passau.

A female jogger alerted police to the discovery and a specialist explosives unit were dispatched from the nearby district of Tittling.

But local police said experts soon realised there was no emergency.

“After careful examination of the bag’s contents, the officers quickly realised that it was a rubber dummy,” Hauzenberg Police said in a press release.

“The bag was emptied and the contents examined. This turned up an empty tube of lubricant, two unused condoms in a tin and a USB cable.”

Officials added that an online search “confirmed their suspicions” that “there really are sex toys modelled on hand grenades”.

Local police said they disposed of the items, which appeared to have been in the unusual location for some time.

“How they came to be there and why they remained there can only be imagined,” the statement added.

Unexploded WW2 munitions are often found in Germany, prompting mass evacuations.

Nigeria cannot afford another civil war -Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria cannot afford another civil war because it will not augur well for the country.

Osinbajo said this at an interactive forum of All Progressives Congress Anambra governorship aspirants organised by the state chapter of APC Patriots in Abuja.

“The thing about the kind of conflict in this part of the world, developing countries, is that it is usually a war without end.

“Everyone who thinks he has some monies stored up somewhere will eventually run out of money.

“Everyone who thinks he can go and hide somewhere, won`t even find a place to hide, in the end, everyone will suffer.

“Even if you don’t suffer, parents, children, young and old people, and relations will suffer. We cannot afford another civil war in this country, we can`t afford it,” he said.

Osinbajo said the political elite must rise up to the challenge by speaking the truth and taking action to address the situation in the country.
