We Are Angry Nigerians Took Over Our Retail Business, They Must Go—Ghanaian Traders.

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) at Kasoa in the Central region has threatened to close down shops of foreign nationals, especially Nigerians, engaged in retail business. The group said the invasion of foreigners in retail business had made their businesses to collapse.

General Secretary of GUTA at Kasoa, Bright Agyemang, who spoke to a section of the media, expressed worry over the government’s inability to enforce the laws on foreign businesses in Ghana.

In a report by Ghanaweb, he said members of the association are furious and becoming impatient towards the continuous invasion of foreigners in the retail business.

Agyemang urged the government to address the issue to avoid it from degenerating.

He said: “The foreigners have taken over our market that is why GUTA is complaining. They have taken over all across the country but as it is now, Kasoa is the strongest area for these foreigners.

“So, we are praying to the government to come to our aid.

“The law says a foreigner cannot do retail except Ghanaians but the foreigners are doing retail in our markets and so we will close their shops. We will use the law; we will enforce the law to close their shops.”

For years, GUTA and some foreign nationals, especially Nigerians, have been at war over retail trade in the country. Last year, members of GUTA forcibly locked up some foreign-owned shops in Greater Accra and Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

The trade war led to a high-powered delegation flying from Nigeria to Ghana to meet parliament over the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) law that prevents foreigners from engaging in the retail business.

The National President of Nigerian Union of Traders Association, Ghana (NUTAG), Chukwuemeka Nnaji, said, “The ECOWAS protocol gives all citizens of member states equal rights to do business, reside and establish a business in each member state.”

The investment firm of Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates’ transferred $1.8 billion (estimated N685 billion naira) in stock to his wife, Melinda, the same day the couple announced their separation after 27 years of marriage, New York Post reports.

Cascade Investment, a holding company that Gates formed to manage much of his financial assets, transferred more than 14 million shares of Canadian National Railway to Melinda Gates on Monday, according to a securities filing.

The NY Post reports that on the same day, the firm transferred more than 2.9 million shares of AutoNation to Melinda Gates, a separate filing shows.

Based on Wednesday’s stock prices, the Canadian National Railway holdings are worth more than $1.5 billion and the shares of AutoNation, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company that sells cars, are valued at over $300 million.

The couple’s divorce petition, which was filed Monday in King County Superior Court in Washington state, indicated that they don’t have a prenuptial agreement to distribute their estimated $130 billion in assets.

Instead, the two have signed a separation contract for dividing their property and possessions, but the terms of that agreement have not been publicly disclosed in court documents.

Family Of Murdered Akwa Ibom Job-Seeker, Umoren Speaks On Her Death, Getting Justice.

Ukeme Umoren, elder brother of murdered Akwa Ibom job-seeker, Iniubong Umoren, has said the family is certain that justice will be served.

He was speaking to SaharaReporters on the murder of his sister, a 26-year-old graduate of the University of Uyo, who was first kidnapped and raped before she was killed by a suspect who posed as an employer, Frank Ezekiel Akpan.

Akpan, according to the police, has been arrested and has confessed to raping, killing and burying the lady in a shallow grave.

Iniubong had dropped a tweet on her handle last Tuesday seeking a job and got many replies in that regard.

She wrote, “#AkwaIbomTwitter please I’m really in need of a job, something to do to keep mind and soul together while contributing dutifully to the organisation. My location is Uyo, I’m creative, really good at thinking critically and most importantly a fast learner. CV available on request.”

Rather than employ her, it was gathered that Akpan took Iniubong to his house, where he killed her.

There are allegations that Akpan belongs to a syndicate and probably has the backing of influential people.
Many Nigerians have expressed fear that the course of justice might be truncated in the case of Iniubong’s murder amid cries by the family that the remains of the deceased has not been released to them.

But speaking with SaharaReporters on Tuesday, Ukeme said he was certain that justice would be served.

He expressed absolute faith in the police department stating that he is confident the Commissioner of Police will not allow anyone to sweep the case under the carpet.

He said, “The culprit has been arrested and he is at the police station. He has confessed to the crime. We are still on how to get justice for her. You know we met with the commissioner of police, he said the investigation is still going on. I have faith that justice will be served.”

Bill and Melinda Gates are ending their marriage after 27 years

Bill and Melinda Gates are going their separate ways after 27 years of marriage.

In a joint statement, the couple announced they’ve made a decision to get divorced.

After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the statement reads.

“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.

We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives,” it added.

Melinda Gates filed a petition for divorce in King County, Washington, on Monday, asking a judge to dissolve the marriage based on the couple’s separation contract. No financial details were included in the publicly available documents.

The couple founded their philanthropic organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, together in 2000. Since then, the foundation has spent $53.8 billion on a wide range of initiatives related to global health, poverty alleviation and more, according to its website.

Bill Gates is one of the richest people in the world. His net worth was $137 billion as of February, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranking.

Bill, 65, and Melinda, 56, began dating in 1987 after they met at Microsoft — which Bill Gates founded and was, at the time, running as CEO. She started as a product manager as the only woman in the first class of MBA graduates to join the company, and eventually rose through the ranks to become general manager of information products.

We used N55 million ransom received for the kidnapped Kaduna varsity students to feed them – Bandit Leader

Leader of the bandits that kidnapped students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State, has confirmed that they had so far received N55 million as ransom for the abducted students but claimed they had already spent the money.

The bandits on Monday threatened to kill the remaining 17 pupils if the Kaduna State Government or the victims’ families failed to comply with their demands.

On April 20, 2021, the students and three workers of the university were abducted from the school campus along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on April 20, while five of the students have so far been killed.

The bandits issued the latest threat, in an interview with the Hausa Service of Voice of America

A leader of the bandits’ group, who identified himself as Sani Idris Jalingo, said if the Kaduna State Government or their families failed to pay a ransom of N100 million as well as provide them with 10 brand new Honda motorcycles by Tuesday, the remaining students would be killed.

Jalingo said there were 17 students in his custody, comprising 15 females and two males.

According to him, among them is a grandchild of the late 18th Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris, whom he identified as Hamza.

The bandits revealed that the families of the students had already raised and paid N55 million to them but claimed they had used the money to feed the students.

He vowed that it was his final warning and should the government or the students’ families fail to meet his demands, all the students would be killed.

You are speaking with the abductors of Greenfield students. We heard the utterances of the Kaduna State Governor that he will not pay ransom to bandits to purchase additional arms,” he said.

Asked if he sees himself as a terrorist, Jalingo laughed and said: “I’m nothing but a food seeker.”

Emphasising on his threat, the bandit said; “If they fail to bring N100 million and 10 brand new Honda motorcycles known as Boko Haram by Tuesday, I can assure you they will use trucks to evacuate the bodies of the remaining students.”

UK Police arrest man who stabbed London based Nigerian coach to death

The Metropolitan Police have arrested a 42-year-old suspect who allegedly stabbed a 40-year-old Nigerian football coach, Michael Olatunde Fadayomi, to death at Willesden, north London, on Thursday.

According to reports, the Nigerian man, simply known as Tunde, was stabbed to death after a fight broke out on the top floor of a bus.

Ripples Nigeria gathered that Tunde’s teenage son, who was with him and was heading to a football training, had some problems with someone on the bus, and Tunde’s intervention escalated the confrontation into the streets.

According to MyLondon, the suspect was being held at the police station, while the police said they were not searching for anyone else in connection with the murder.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness account stated that Tunde was protecting his teenage son after he was threatened on the bus, and died after he was repeatedly stabbed at the doorway of a chicken shop.

Also, a passenger on the bus who witnessed the tragedy said the suspect stabbed Tunde and then walked away “without a care in the world.”

The witness said: “He calmly walked away. It was like nothing happened. He just walked, and no one had bothered to go after him. This is a very dangerous man who needs to be taken off the streets before he strikes again.”

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said the argument started when the suspect accused Tunde’s son and his friend of preventing the bus from moving, whereas the vehicle was stationary because it was changing drivers.

The bus had stopped outside Willesden Garage and the man just kept shouting that he needs to see his mum and then he started accusing the boys of being the reason why the bus wasn’t moving.

“I was on my phone and was thinking ‘why is this grown man shouting at these boys?’ The boys were trying to calm him down but then he reached into his crotch and pulled out a blade. The boys ran off the bus and one said he was going to get his dad.

The dad asked the man why he had troubled his son. They started shouting at each other before the killer took out the knife again and said, ‘I want to go and see my mum,” the witness said.

Meanwhile, a mobile video footage showed the two men arguing on the top deck before the dad comes off the bus, followed by the suspect, while bystanders were heard screaming, while others tried to intervene.

However, the witness said he was disgusted by the actions of people who whipped out their phones after Tunde had been stabbed rather than try and help him.

He said: “I was the only one who called the police. We need to change how we use technology and use it sensibly, not stand by and watch a man dying. This man died protecting his son. As a father myself, I understand why he confronted his killer, and we would do the same.

“He did what any decent father did and he lost his life while the killer walked away without a care in the world. He needs to be found and quickly.”

Daramola made this assertion during an interactive session on The PUNCH’s online sports talk show, Stars Talk Football.

“I might not (allow my son to represent Nigeria) because at the end of the day, there is a lot of insecurity in the country.

“The moment a child comes to play in Nigeria, a lot of things are at stake. Even as a mother, the moment he starts playing in leagues abroad, then the parents may become a target of kidnap. I can vividly remember that they kidnapped a player Mikel Obi’s father. So, because of the insecurity in the country, I will definitely say no.
