Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reportedly placed a ban on the proposed meeting of the United Igbo Community in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reportedly placed a ban on the proposed meeting of the United Igbo Community in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The meeting comprising Igbo residents in Rivers, was scheduled to hold today, Saturday, April 10, 2021.

The state government claimed the meeting was banned ‘to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the area’.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, the governor directed security agencies to ensure that the planned meeting does not hold.

Recall that in October 2020, during the nationwide #EndSARS protests, Wike declared a 24-hour curfew in Oyigbo after a police station was attacked by hoodlums.

The governor during the crisis also declared a N50 million bounty on one Stanley Mgbere, who is said to be the leader of the pro-Biafra group, Indigenous People of Biafra, in the state.

IPOB and OPC are similar to Boko Haram. They don’t believe in Nigeria – Former Army Chief, Abdulrahman Dambazzau says.

Abdulrahman Dambazau, a former chief of army staff, has said that the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) share “similarities” with Boko Haram as they all do not believe in the oneness of Nigeria.

Dambazzau said this when he spoke at the inauguration of Army War College Nigeria Course 5/2021 in Abuja on Friday, April 9. He said both groups are exhibiting features similar to that of Boko Haram when the insurgent group started out in 2009.

“They are all non-state actors. They all have separatist agenda to carve out states out of Nigeria’s territory. They all do not believe in the Nigerian project, its unity and peaceful co-existence just like BH.

They are also beginning their projects by attacking security forces and those they consider their enemies.

The two groups have been making efforts to ignite nationwide inter-ethnic conflicts through their violent attacks on northern residents or transacting businesses in the south as a quick to realise their dream for a divided Nigeria.

We see parallels between BH, a religious extreme group and the IPOB and OPC, both ethnic extremist groups. All the three groups operate on the platform of extremism.”he said

‘I’m in UK for short rest,’ Buhari tells Jordanian monarch

President Muhammadu Buhari said on Thursday he is currently taking “a short rest” in London, United Kingdom.

The President, according to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a letter he sent to the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Abdullah ll Bin Al-Hussein, following the resolution of a recent rift in the royal family.

The Presidency had said last month that President Buhari would travelled to the UK for a routine medical check-up.

Buhari wrote: “While here in London taking a short rest, I was profoundly disturbed to read from international news agencies of attempts to destabilise the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Your exemplary leadership since ascending the throne has attracted worldwide admiration.

“Relations between Nigeria and Jordan have been excellent and I thank you for the part you have played in this relationship.

‘‘Your Majesty, I am much heartened that matters have now been resolved and I pray that the Hashemite Kingdom continues to not only remain peaceful but also a major beacon of hope for the region under Your Majesty’s wise guidance.”

NLC suspends planned industrial action in Kano

The Organised Labour has suspended the three-day warning strike earlier scheduled to begin today (Thursday) in Kano State, over deductions from workers salary for March by the state government.

The Deputy National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Najeem Yasin, disclosed this on Wednesday night, at a joint news conference with other labour movements and affiliates in Kano, after a meeting with delegates from the State government, led by the state’s Head of Civil Service, Hajia Binta Lawan Ahmed.

It would be recalled that the NLC, last week, gave a seven-day ultimatum to the state government to refund the “illegal deduction” from civil servant salaries, or face industrial action.

Similarly, the labour leaders said if the government failed to stop the “unexplained” deductions before the end of its ultimatum, which was on Tuesday, April 6, workers would embark on a three-day warning strike from midnight of Wednesday 7, April.

However, the leadership of labour groups attended a closed-door meeting with the team from the state government and reached a resolution.

Meanwhile, rumours making the round say that the state government planned to revert to the N18,000 minimum wage it was previously implementing.

However, updating newsmen on the resolutions reached, Yasin said the state government denied the rumour and affirmed its determination to respect the agreement of N30,600 signed between the state government and organised labour in December 2019.

Also, March 2021 workers’ salaries deduction at State and Local government Councils should be refunded to workers along with April or May salaries depending on the increase of FAAC allocation for the period,’’ he said.

He noted that the state government also agreed that all machinery for the implementation of the new national minimum wage of N30,600.00 would be put in place by the Office of the Head of Civil Service for Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil and Yusuf Maitama Sule Universities immediately.

A committee was set up between Government and organised labour to look into all contentious issues as presented by labour.

“Also, the payment of monthly pension and all entitlements of retirees should be vested under the resolutions and approval of the Board of Trustees of the Kano State Pension Fund Trust as provided by 2006 pension law,” he added.

He declared that the planned 3-day industrial action planned to commence on Thursday, 8th April 2021 and peaceful protests on Monday, 12 April 2021, have been suspended by the organised labour.

The health of jailed critic Alexei Navalny is deteriorating…

The health of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny is deteriorating and he is beginning to lose sensation in his legs and hands, his lawyer says.

Vadim Kobzev said Navalny, who is in a penal colony serving a sentence for embezzlement, had been diagnosed with two spinal hernias.

Last week, Navalny started a hunger strike to demand proper treatment for acute back and leg pain.

The White House said reports that his health was worsening were disturbing.

Mr Kobzev, who visited Navalny on Wednesday, said on Twitter (in Russian): “Alexei is walking himself. He feels pain while walking. It is very concerning that the illness is clearly progressing in terms of losing sensation in his legs, palms and wrists.”

Earlier this week, Navalny, 44, was moved to a sick ward in the prison in the town of Pokrov with symptoms of a respiratory illness. He had complained of a persistent cough and temperature.

His temperature was oscillating and had fallen to 37C (98.6F) on Wednesday after reaching 39C (102F) on Monday, according to the lawyer, who said Navalny was losing 1kg (2lbs) a day due to a hunger strike.

In an Instagram post, Navalny said prison authorities were trying to undermine his hunger strike by roasting chicken near him and placing sweets in the pockets of his clothes.

Also on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the Biden administration considered Navalny’s imprisonment “politically motivated and a gross injustice” and called for his immediate release.

Earlier, human rights group Amnesty International said Navalny had been incarcerated in conditions that amount to torture and may slowly be killing him. Campaigners say the prison is known for its especially harsh conditions.

Navalny’s lawyers, who have been visiting him in custody, say there are no doctors at the colony and the medical unit on-site is run by a single paramedic.

Last week, Russia’s prison service denied Navalny’s allegations that he was not receiving proper treatment, saying he had been given “all the necessary medical assistance in accordance with his medical indications”.

On Monday, he said as many as three people from his unit had been taken to hospital with tuberculosis recently, a claim the Russian prison service denied.

Navalny was given a suspended sentence for embezzlement in 2014, a conviction widely seen as politically motivated.

The suspended sentence became an actual prison term in February, following his return from Germany, where he had been receiving treatment for poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok.

Bandits kill eight people, kidnap ten in Kaduna

Kaduna State was thrown into further mayhem as suspected bandits reportedly killed eight people and abducted four female members of the Anglican Church at Kasuwan Magani in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Ripples Nigeria also gathered that six occupants of a vehicle were kidnapped by the bandits along the Kaduna-Kachia road on Tuesday, April 6.

This was confirmed by the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, in a statement on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria confirmed the abduction of its members, saying the abductors were demanding a N100m ransom.

The latest kidnapping came 12 days after their counterparts from the Redeemed Christian Church of God were abducted on the same road.

According to Aruwan, the bandits barricaded the Kaduna-Kachia road around Kadanye village in the Kajuru LG and opened fire on a bus as well as a truck carrying firewood.

Aruwan gave the names of those killed as Alfred Makinde (the driver of the bus), Abdulrahman Dela, Dauda Adamu, Umar Dauda, and Abdulrasheed Musa while the injured three were Murtala Ibrahim, Ali Manager, and Abdullahi (full name unknown).

Similarly, he said bandits barricaded the Kaduna-Kachia road at the Doka axis of the Kajuru LGA and shot at a truck, killing the driver.

He said, “Eight killed, four injured by bandits in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas.

On a sad note, security agencies have reported the killing of eight persons in separate incidents in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas.

“In one incident, bandits barricaded the Kaduna-Kachia road around Kadanye village in the Kajuru LGA and opened fire on a bus, as well as a truck carrying firewood.”

IPOB Calls Igbo Governors Puppets, Mocks Them Over Attacks, Killings.

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra has blamed the South-East governors for the recent worsening security challenges in the region. There have been attacks on security agents and killings by unknown gunmen in the South-East recently.
.
There were also deadly attacks on communities in Ebonyi and Enugu states last week by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

And on Monday, a correctional facility and police headquarters in Imo State were attacked and inmates freed.

While reacting to the sad occurrences, the IPOB criticised the governors for conniving with the Nigerian government to get rid of the group that should be protecting their territories, and sabotaging the efforts of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The group stated this through a press release by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful. The group asked the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma and his counterparts to stop shedding crocodile tears in the statement titled ‘IPOB To S’East Governors: Stop Lamenting, We Warned You But You Asked For Our Heads.’

“We the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, read with great amusement, the lamentation and crocodile tears by South-East Governors particularly Hope Uzodinma over the attack in Imo State and last week’s massacre of innocent people in Ebonyi and Enugu communities.

“How come Hope Uzodinma and his cowardly fellow South-East governors are waking from sleep? Our message is simple: Good morning to you all!

“On Sunday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who came on a condolence visit to Ebonyi State said the governors of the region were currently hiding their faces in shame.

“This was lamentation: ‘Even when the killings happened; very unprovoked killings, some people said they gave the Governor of Ebonyi State 21 days to resign. We have been called all kinds of names and we feel ashamed that the same people we fight for day and night as governors and leaders of South-East to ensure the oneness of this country would know about attacks on Ebonyi State and they were asked to leave and they left, and we were slaughtered and killed. What face do we have then to face our people? We feel so ashamed to face our people,’” the statement said.

The group further condemned the governors for supporting the proscription of the IPOB and their failure to support the Eastern Security Network.

“When our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was warning you people and your fellow saboteurs, you called him a miscreant. You and your fellow treacherous self-acclaimed Igbo leaders hurriedly outlawed IPOB, a peaceful movement and prepared the ground for the Federal Government to tag us, terrorists.

“You puppet Igbo Leaders, in your bid to please your slavemasters approved Operation Python Dance that claimed many innocent Igbo youths. Thank God for the miraculous escape of our Leader, otherwise, the vampires would have drunk with his skull.

“When our leader set up Eastern Security Network, ESN, following the failure of the weak South-East governors to protect the people, instead of supporting him, you connived with the federal government to hunt down our men staking their lives to protect our ancestral land.

“Now the Fulani you hated your brothers to protect have risen to kill your subjects in return. Why shed crocodile tears? They are your friends and One Nigeria brothers!

“Why haven’t you ordered for their arrest the same way you governors approved of the onslaught against our men at Orlu? You hate your own and protect your enemy. Clean your tears and live with your One Nigeria brothers. Stop lamenting. We warned you but you took us for fools because of your worthless selfish political ambition,” the statement added.

Nigeria Now Divided Between Those Who Want One Nigeria And Separationists— Fani-Kayode.

Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode says Nigerians are no longer divided between the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) and its main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

He disclosed that the soul of the country is now torn between those who believe that Nigeria is still better as one and those agitating for separate sovereign nations.

He went further to state that the choice of the person that becomes the nation’s next President will determine the fate of Nigeria in 2023.

Fani-Kayode revealed this on Tuesday on his Twitter page while reacting to the state of chaos and tension currently ravaging the country.

“The struggle in Nigerian politics is no longer between the 2 major parties, namely PDP & APC, but between the integrationists, who believe in a united, unbreakable Nigeria & the separatists who believe in the balkanisation of our country into various sovereign, independent nations.

“The choice we make for President in 2023 will ultimately determine which of the two sides wins that struggle.

“If we make the right choice and elect a young, strong, decisive, tough, clear-headed, clear-thinking, de-tribalised, level-headed, restrained, sensitive, kind and compassionate bridge-builder who is ready to do the right thing, restructure the federation, establish justice and equity, liberate the oppressed, take away the pain of the people and heal their wounds Nigeria may just survive.”

The ex-minister cautioned that Nigeria does not deserve a visionless and incompetent fellow that is capable of causing disintegration as the country is experiencing now.

“However if we make the mistake of electing a rudderless, incompetent geriatric, an egocentric intellectual barbarian and a bumbling and ineffectual fool whose lust for power and wealth is insatiable, who is detached from reality, who suffers from acute dementia, who refuses to acknowledge the cracks and divisions in our body politic & nation, whose only interest & motivation is the acquisition of primitive wealth & who has no interest in righting the wrongs of the past & building bridges across ethnic, regional & religious lines, then our nation will break into a thousand pieces & never be one again. The choice is ours,” he added.

Ekiti police rescue two-year-old twins locked up for three days without food

Ekiti State police command on Monday, rescued a set of two-year-old twins, who were locked in a room by their mother, Joy, for three days without food at Igbara Odo in the Ekiti South West Local Government Area of the state.

Ripples Nigeria learnt that the woman allegedly threatened to kill the babies if anyone forced her to open the door.

The state Commissioner of Police, Tunde Mobayo, said his men, upon a call from a good Samaritan rescued the twins.

He said “The two kids were taken immediately to hospital for medical examination/treatment, while investigation has already commenced and the command shall ensure the safety of the kids and their mother.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, who made this known in a statement in Ado Ekiti titled: ‘Ekiti police rescue twin babies’, said the command received a distressed call that “the woman locked up her twin babies in her room for about three days without food and threatened to kill them should anyone compel her to open the door.

“The command’s Rapid Response Squad, upon the receipt of the information, swung into action and rescued the two kids. During interrogation, the lady narrated that the father of her kids left her for Calabar, Cross River State capital, when she was pregnant and has refused to return to take care of her and the kids till date.

According to her, she could no longer fend for herself and her two kids because her hair dressing work started failing. The two kids, who appear unhealthy, are already two years’ old but can neither walk nor stand on their own without support due to malnutrition.”

Rivers APC threatens to sanction Amaechi, Abe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ahoada Local Government Area of Rivers State has issued a three-month ultimatum to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and Senator Magnus Abe to resolve their differences or face sanctions.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday, by the leader of the APC Chapter, Ibiso Nwuche after an extra-ordinary meeting of the party held in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.

Nwuche said the ultimatum was due to the failure of the APC leadership in the state to resolve the crisis rocking the party.

Having not had any benefit from the party due to failed leadership from the state and the grassroots levels in Ahoada East, we resolved and gave them (Amaechi and Abe), till July this year to reconcile themselves at the top and move the party forward before we take next action,” Nwuche said.

A statement by Amaechi directing the riverine part of the state to prepare and produce the APC governorship candidate to take over power in 2023 was his personal opinion, the APC leader also explained.

He urged the minister to allow internal democracy thrive as only delegates of the party can decide who will fly the party’s flag.

IPOB refutes reports of attacks on Police HQs in Owerri

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has slammed reports that it was responsible for Monday’s attacks on Police and Correctional Service headquarters in Imo State.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday, April 5, by its Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful in Owerri

Powerful explained that the group was formed on the principle of peace and would not compromise its principles.

It would also not attack the government’s facilities, he stated.

The attention of IPOB has been drawn to the fallacious and fabricated reports that it is involved in the attack of prison and police headquarters in Imo.

IPOB and Eastern Security Network (ESN) are known groups, not unknown gunmen. ESN is in the bush chasing terrorists and has no business with the said attacks.

“We were not involved in the attack in Owerri and the recent attack on Onitsha-Owerri road at Ukwuorji junction.

“It is not our mandate to attack security personnel or prison facilities,’’ he stated.

Ripples Nigeria had earlier reported that the Imo Police Command, as well as that of the Correctional Service, were attacked at about 2 a.m. on Monday by unknown gunmen.

They set hundreds of inmates free from the Correctional Centre and set many vehicles there ablaze.

Northern youth group calls for removal of CCT Chairman, Umar, over assault

The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has joined those calling for the removal and prosecution of the embattled Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, following his recent assault of a security man at a shopping plaza in Abuja.

On Monday, March 29, Umar was caught on video assaulting the security guard later identified as Clement Sargwak, an employee of Jul Reliable Guard Services Limited at Banex Plaza, Abuja, for allegedly telling him (Umar) that he had wrongly parked his vehicle.

In an attempt to justify the assault, the CCT spokesman, Ibraheem Alhassan, in a press statement, said Umar was rather the victim in the case and that a bunch of ‘Biafra Boys’ had attacked the CCT boss.

With several groups, lawyers and human rights activists calling for Umar’s dismissal and prosecution, the NYCN has also added its voice in condemning the act of Umar who is a highly placed law officer in the country.

In a statement signed by its President, Isah Abubakar, and made available to Ripples Nigeria on Monday, the NYCN expressed its disappointment at the generalization and profiling of a section of the country and the use of “Biafran Boys” to describe Nigerians who are going about their lawful businesses.

The statement reads:

“The Northen Youth Council of Nigeria condemns in totality the acts of Justice Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), following a viral video where he is seen assaulting a security guard at the Banex Plaza in Abuja.

Such atrocious act coming from a highly placed officer of the law is not only barbaric but very unfortunate.

“To make matters worse and more condemnable is the CCT spokesman trying to justify the attack on the young man for only doing his duties.

“Another most unfortunate move was by tagging the crowd ‘Biafra Boys’, thereby demonizing a section of the country, something that is capable of stirring further division in the country so that he would escape public scrutiny and the consequences of his action.

“We have every reason to believe that anybody from Eastern Nigeria that appears before the CCT can’t get justice, following the Biafran mindset he holds against them.

The NYCN, therefore, calls for Danladi Umar to resign from his position as the CCT chairman. If he fails to do that, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to remove him immediately.

“We also appeal to the Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest and prosecute him for assaulting a law-abiding Nigerian on his duty post.

“We also call on the presidency to, as a matter of urgency, replace Umar as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal if he fails to resign voluntarily.

“We also call on the National Assembly to stop appropriating money to the CCT if Umar fails to resign and the presidency decides to retain him.

We are also mobilising our members in preparation for a grand protest if the above demands are not met.”

“He was attacked at the weekend at Pali. It took the timely intervention of security operatives who whisked him away after sustaining minor bruises to rescue him.

“They said they attacked him because of his fake promises for many years,” the source said.

Another source said, “No single borehole, school or any structure put in place by Pali. We regret voting him into office. We’ll do everything possible to ensure he is not re-elected in the forthcoming election.”

Buhari’s UK medical trip, symptom of a national malady —Seadogs

The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) also known as Pyrates Confraternity has berated President Muhammadu Buhari over his latest trip to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up.

In a statement titled “President Buhari’s Foreign Medical Trip: Symptom of a National Malady”, issued on Sunday, and signed by the NAS Capoon, Abiola Owoaje, the organisation said the trip was unethical and embarrassing, noting that the President was publicly signalling a vote of no confidence in the healthcare system of the country he presides over.

The group maintained that millions of Nigerians were left to the weak and inefficient healthcare system that the “President so visibly disdains”, since they cannot have foreign medical trips paid for from the public treasury.

“The timing of this latest medical tourism is tragically poignant, coming the same week the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) commenced an indefinite strike over the failure of the Federal Government to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with the association and meet other demands which include payment of entitlements as basic as hazard allowance for routine professional hazards and the extraordinary demands of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement read.

Owoaje slammed President Buhari for not being able to fulfil his campaign promise to revamp the country’s health sector and put a halt to medical tourism.

“In the six years that he has been in office, President Buhari has abysmally failed to make hospitals in Nigeria functional to the extent that it can be entrusted to handle his health and that of other top government officials.

“It is even more disappointing that the Aso Rock Clinic, the object of inexplicably huge budgetary allocations is demonstrably incapable of meeting the demands of the most senior resident of Aso Rock Villa,” Owoaje said.

He challenged Buhari to use the remaining years of his tenure to work for the improvement of the nation’s healthcare delivery system.

“He should as a matter of priority put efforts in motion, leading the charge and galvanising state governments across the country to ensure the upgrading of public healthcare facilities in the country in line with global best practices. His administration should summon the required will and mobilise the needed funds to address the structural problems in Nigeria’s healthcare ecosystem.

These include the conducive working environment, improved infrastructure, tools, eliminating the ongoing brain drain, improving the welfare of medical and healthcare workers in the country as well as strengthening the organic link between primary, secondary and tertiary levels of healthcare,” he added.

“President Buhari’s preoccupation, as he enters the sixth year out of his eight-year tenure, should be how to develop Nigeria’s healthcare system such that no President after him would need to travel out of the country for a routine medical check-up. Nigerians want a leader who would inspire confidence in the country’s health facilities. President Buhari should strive to be such a leader if he cares about the verdict of history.”

Four soldiers injured, as Boko Haram attacks Monguno

The Senator representing Borno South senatorial district and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has revealed that four soldiers were injured when Boko Haram insurgents attacked Monguno and other communities last Friday.

Ndume made this disclosure during a press briefing on Sunday, April 4.

According to the Senator, the insurgents were killed by a force comprising soldiers, police and some civilian volunteers.

A joint task force comprising the soldiers, police and the civilian JTF on Friday killed all the insurgents that came to attack Monguno and other adjoining communities.

“I commend the military and other security agencies that contributed to the success of the operation.

Unfortunately during the attack, about four soldiers sustained injuries while pursuing the insurgents.

“We encourage them to do more in order to bring the issue of insurgency under control.

Bayelsa EndSARS panel awards N16m against police for murdered teenager

The Bayelsa State Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and Other Related Matters investigating extra-judicial killings by the police during the #EndSARS protests last year, has awarded N16m against the police for the killing of a 17-year-old boy, Innocent Kokorifa, who was killed in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The teenager who was the son of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official, Daniel Kokorifa, attached to the Rivers State Command, was reportedly killed by a trigger-happy police officer in August 2016.

The father of the deceased, a native of Okpotuwari in the Southern Ijaw, Ijaw local government area of the state, had in his petition submitted on Saturday, numbered BYS/JPI/012/2020, prayed the panel to also consider the sum of N6m incurred since the brutal murder of his son.

While ruling on the petition, the chairman of the panel, Justice Young Ogola (Rtd), awarded Kokorifa the sum of N16m in temporary compensation against the police.

“There is no compensation for what was pronounced as vicarious liability or so, nothing that the policeman, who committed the crime, has already been sentenced to death, can say in his defence,” Ogola remarked during the judgment.

Ebonyi Police refutes reports about escape of suspects from custody

The Police Command in Ebonyi has debunked a report that some suspects on Saturday escaped from police custody in the state.

The rebuttal is contained in a statement signed and issued by the command’s Spokesperson, DSP Loveth Odeh to newsmen in Abakaliki on Sunday, April 4.

Odeh described the news report as mischievous.

“The attention of the the police command in Ebonyi has been drawn to a rumour making waves on social media platform/print media that suspects arrested in connection with the Effium/Ezza-Effium intra communal crisis have escaped from police custody.

The command perceives such rumour as unfounded, mischievous and baseless. It is an attempt to create panic in the minds of people in Ebonyi, mislead the reading public and distract the command,” she stated.

Odeh said there was no record of cell break or escape of either those arrested and handed over to the police in connection with the Effium/Ezza-Effium community crisis, or suspects involved in any other case within the command.

It may interest the public to know that the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, Mr Aliyu Garba, visited Effium/Ezza-Effium community alongside the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe on April 3.

“Also in the entourage was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Enugu, to inspect troops and mobile policemen deployed to the area as the ongoing crisis has defied many peace processes initiated by the Ebonyi government.

“During the visit to one of the Effium villages, Okpoduma, some suspected Effium indigenes were arrested and not machineries as widely speculated.

“A search within their surroundings by the security officers led to the recovery five dane guns, one locally made pistol and some cartridges.

The suspects and all recovered exhibits are currently with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discrete investigations,” the PPRO said.

The spokesperson, however, condemned the peddling of falsehood and said it was inimical to the return of normalcy to Effium community .

The command urges the general public to regard the news as a rumour, baseless and mischievous to suit the intention of the originator(s) and go about their lawful businesses,” she stated.

God Showed Me A Vision That Buhari Would Stabilise Nigeria—Tunde Bakare.

Tunde Bakare, senior pastor of Citadel Global Community Church, on Sunday said he supported President Muhammadu Buhari because God told him Buhari has a role in stabilising Nigeria.
Bakare, a critic of successive past administrations who once said he is not under any obligation to protest against the Buhari government, made this statement in a state-of-the-nation broadcast on Sunday.

Highlighting his role in the coalition of political parties that birthed the All Progressive Congress and the eventual emergence of Buhari in 2015, Bakare said God had in a vision shown him that Buhari has a critical role in the stabilisation of Nigeria.

“After the controversial and divisive 2011 elections, as Nigeria drifted along with sectional undercurrents and the nation sought a unifying force, some of us prevailed on General Muhammadu Buhari not to quit the stage but to take back his words and form a coalition of the best of the North and the best of the South to salvage our nation,” Bakare said.

“I must admit that I played a critical role in that mission. God had shown me in a vision that GMB still had a role to play in stabilising Nigeria.”

Since assuming power in 2015, Buhari has shown no commitment towards stabilising the country. His actions have often cast him as a sectional leader who does not care much about Nigeria’s diversity.

Columnist and Public Affairs analyst, Professor Farouk Kperoogi, detailed how the President publicly betrayed his “deep-seated loathing” of Igbos, Nigeria’s third-largest ethnic group.

The President has often been accused of prioritising issues concerning his Northern Fulani ethnic group, particularly the nomadic herdsmen, to the detriment of other tribes.

Buhari’s manifest clannish sentiments have heightened renewed agitations among secessionist and self-determination groups, including IPOB and some Yoruba activists.

In his last Christmas sermon, fiery cleric, Bishop Hassan Kukah, warned that the country risked disintegration if the President does not reverse his nepotistic attitude to governance.

In its 2020 human rights practices report on Nigeria, the US stated that the Buhari administration was in the habit of handing out important federal positions to “particular ethnic groups.”

Lamenting the country’s spate of insecurity under the watch of Buhari, however, Mr Bakare said security governance is “superficial” and “inadequate.”

Peoples Gazette quoted Bakare to have said, “Years after the government assured Nigerians that Boko Haram had been “technically defeated,” we are once again confronted with entire villages being overrun.

“While I commend the bravery of our armed forces, the worsening security situation is an indication that our approach to security governance is simply superficial and inadequate to deal with the root causes of the problem.”

Bakare further urged the Buhari government to consider a national rebirth conference focused on “devolution of policing powers to the subnational governments”, arguing that calls for “restructuring” are not an attack on Nigeria’s unity.

“Restructuring means empowering the North West, the North Central, the North East, the South West, the South-South and the South East so that every part of our country will be safe and prosperous,” Mr Bakare said. “Show me one person who does not want this for our country, and I will show you an enemy of Nigeria.”
