ICPC declares Buhari’s son-in-law wanted over $65 million ‘fraud’

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has declared President Muhammadu Buhari’s son-in-law, Gimba Yau Kumo, wanted over an alleged $65 million fraud.

A notice published on Thursday by the anti-graft agency, said Kumo is declared wanted alongside Tarry Rufus and Bola Ogunsola over alleged misappropriation and dispersion of national housing funds.

Kumo, a former managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, married Fatima, the president’s daughter, in 2016 at Daura, Katsina state.

The persons whose pictures appear above, Mr. Tarry Rufus, Mr. Gimba Yau Kumo and Mr. Bola Ogunsola, are hereby declared WANTED by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with issues bordering on misappropriation of National Housing Funds and diversion of the sum of Sixty Five Million dollars ($65,000,000).

Anyone who has useful information on their whereabouts should report to ICPC Headquarters Abuja, any of the ICPC State Offices or the nearest police station,” the ICPC said.

In April, the senate committee on public accounts summoned Kumo to explain the alleged irregular award of N3 billion contract when he was still at the bank.

FG asks Israel, Palestine to respect human rights

The federal government has urged Israel and Palestine authorities to respect human rights, saying the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is watching the unfolding conflicts that have recently beset the peninsula.

FG spoke through the minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama in a statement issued by foreign affairs spokesman, Ferdinand Nwoye, on Thursday.

The government urged both parties to de-escalate hostilities and commit a two-state solution.

The statement read; “The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to state that the Federal Government of Nigeria is watching with great concern the unfolding developments with Israel and the State of Palestine and urges both parties to see reason and de-escalate the hostilities.

The Federal Government further urges the two parties to remain committed to the two-state solution and, in the meantime, guarantee the rights of all citizens to live in peace and dignity.”

Israel and Palestine have been locked in violence since last week when Gaza residents launched airstrikes into occupied areas of East Jerusalem.

Youths should be ashamed for failing Nigeria – Ayo Adebanjo

Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Acting National Leader of Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has asked the youth to take their position as change agents in the country.

He maintained that the present administration had failed Nigerians and the youth had refused to charge the government to work in the interest of the country.

The Pan-Yoruba leader stated this at the 95th birthday of the leader of the Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, and the dedication of Reuben Fasoranti Chapel at the Anglican Grammar School, Iju/Ita-Ogbolu in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state, on Tuesday.

The chapel was built by the old students’ association of the school.

Adebanjo said President Muhammadu Buhari ought to have stepped down from government due to the condition of the country.

He said; “I have told them that in a better and civilised country, he (Buhari) should have gone long ago. If he has self respect, he should have gone because everything has failed.

“What is he presiding over? Is it over corruption, security, education? Law and order has broken down in the country for the past three years. It is only because Nigerians are over-tolerant of despots, that is why he (Buhari) is still there.

But as a Christian, I still have hope. If Nigerians are conscious of their rights, they know what to do. Where is the demonstration (of youths) in the country that the Buhari government must go?

The younger generation has failed the country. The country was not as bad as this when we were demonstrating for self governance then. They (youths) want the old men to fight their cause for them. Why should people like me be in the trenches at 93 and Baba Fasoranti at 95? Where are those in their 40s and 30s?

“When we were at their age, we were in the streets of Lagos, London, everywhere and when we were in the university…. The youths should be ashamed of themselves.

$153 million, 80 houses recovered from Diezani – EFCC Chairman

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has disclosed that the anti-graft agency has recovered $153 million from former Minister of Petroleu, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

He also said the EFCC recovered no fewer than 80 choice property valued at $80m, from Diezani, who has been living in Britain since leaving office.

This was contained in the April edition of the EFCC magazine; EFCC Alert, The PUNCH reports.

Bawa, however, noted that bringing the former minister to justice was still far from reality, given the fact that she was out of Nigeria’s jurisdiction, acknowledging the challenges associated with bringing her home to face justice.

The chairman said; “There are several cases surrounding Diezani’s case. I was part of that investigation, and we have done quite a lot. In one of the cases, we recovered $153 million; we have secured the final forfeiture of over 80 properties in Nigeria valued at about $80 million. We have done quite a bit on that.

“The other cases as it relates to the $115 million INEC bribery is also ongoing across the federation. We are looking forward to the time we will, maybe, have her in the country, and, of course, review things and see what will happen going forward. The case has certainly not been abandoned.’’

When asked how he would handle powerful government officials in the discharge of his assignment as EFCC chair, Bawa said he would be ready to leave the job if anyone tried to make him do what was illegal.

I am not going to pay allegiance to individuals in the government,” he added.

Bawa pointed out that though he was young, he had paid the price on the job, having been among the pioneer staff of EFCC, rising through the ranks to reach the top.

He stated; “I rose through the ranks. The only job I know after graduation is the EFCC, which I joined in 2004. I rose through the ranks from an ordinary team member, to the first EFCC team leader from the regular staff of the EFCC.

“ I became a sectional head, became the zonal head in Ibadan, zonal head in Port Harcourt, and zonal head in Lagos. Lagos is the biggest operational hub of the EFCC with over 600 personnel. Port Harcourt is next to it in terms of complexity and staff strength. I happen to be the first EFCC regular staff to head three different zones before my appointment as the chairman.”

Insecurity: Southern Governors ban open grazing, ask Buhari to address nation

Governors of the Southern region have demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity and restore the confidence of the people.

The governors from 17 states in the south-south, south-east and south-west stated this in a 12-point communique read by its Chairman, and Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, at the end of its four hours meeting held in Asaba, Delta state.

They affirmed that the people of Southern Nigeria remain committed to the unity of Nigeria on the basis of justice, fairness, equity, oneness, and peaceful co-existence between and among its peoples with a focus on the attainment of shared goals for economic development and prosperity.

At the meeting it was also agreed that open grazing be banned across all southern states.

The communique read; “Southern Governors expressed very grave concern on the security challenges currently plaguing the nation and strongly urged that Mr. President should address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity and restore the confidence of our people.

“We observed that the incursion of armed herders, criminals, and bandits into the Southern part of the country has presented a severe security challenge such that citizens are not able to live their normal lives including pursuing various productive activities leading to a threat to food supply and general security.

“Consequently, the meeting resolved that open grazing of cattle be banned across Southern Nigeria.

Agreed that the progress of the nation requires that urgent and bold steps be taken to restructure the Nigerian Federation leading to the evolution of state police, review of revenue allocation formula in favour of the sub-national governments and creation of other institutions which legitimately advance our commitment to and practice of true federalism.

In view of widespread agitations among our various peoples for greater inclusiveness in existing governance arrangements, the Federal Government should convoke a national dialogue as a matter of urgency.”

The meeting, therefore, recommended the activation and establishment of ports in other states of the federation to create new jobs and promote socio-economic activities in the country.

Fifteen governors were in attendance at the meeting.

They are Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Dr Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos).

Others are Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), David Umahi (Ebonyi), Willie Obiano (Anambra). Imo and Akwa Ibom States were represented by their deputy governors, while Osun and Cross Rivers states were absent at the meeting.

Gunmen set NDLEA office ablaze in Abia

Unknown gunmen on Tuesday, May 11 set ablaze the office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Amaekpu Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia state.

The State Commandant of NDLEA, Bamidele Akingbade, confirmed the incident and disclosed that it happened around 3 am.

According to him, the office was “partially” razed and no documents were torched as they were inside a fire-prove safe.

The state police spokesman, Godfrey Ogbonna, said the force has commenced a full probe into the incident, adding that there was no casualty from the razing of the INEC office.

The people in the neighbourhood said the attack was carried out by unknown miscreants,” .

“There was no casualty because security men guarding the office ran into the 14 Army Brigade barracks for safety, when the attackers arrived at the place’‘, he said.

The incident came few days after Police stations and INEC office in the state were attacked and burnt down by gunmen.

Buhari is a manager of poverty – Kwara governor

Governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has cautioned Nigerians against disparaging the person of President Muhammadu Buhari for no just cause.

AbdulRazaq spoke on Tuesday in Ilorin at the distribution of Ramadan gift tagged ‘Baba for all’ to the vulnerable, widows and less privileged across the 16 local government areas of the state.

He said that President Buhari as the leader of the country deserves some modicum of respect and not denigration.

The governor added the president has done exceedingly well in the area of infrastructure, noting that Buhari is a good “poverty manager.”

He said; “most of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors rode on Buhari’s back to power. Though we had our own ‘otoge’ in Kwara but he led the party amiably. So we are not going to sit around and have people denigrate the leader of the country for no just reason. The man has been working.

“He has done exceedingly well and because he would not talk, the opposition is taking advantage of that to pull in down. No we would not allow that.

“When there was a lot of money in this country, it was mismanaged. But when baba came in the money has dwindled. There is no money today but President Buhari has been able to manage that. He is an effective manager of poverty. What he has been doing is to manage poverty. The effect of COVID-19 has hit hard on global economy not just Nigeria. It hit Nigeria the hardest as the vast majority of us earn our wage daily. So the shutdown affected us more.

No matter what they say about Baba Buhari, nobody has accused him of embezzling money. That is where it starts from. The man is prudent and diligent. He is making sure that things are done right in every sector.”

The governor added that “in the area of security we have our challenges. But when baba came in only Maiduguri was in the hands of the government of Nigeria, all the other local government areas of Borno state were in the hands of none state actors. But today things have changed.

“Before baba came on board bombs were going on in Kaduna, Kano and even Abuja. United Nations office was bombed. We always seem to forget that and latch on to the momentum of now.

“Security begins with all of us. Like I said recently we are our own gatekeepers, our own protectors. We cannot have the president guarding every house. That is why the Federal Government has introduced community policing.”

On infrastructure, Mallam AbdulRazaq said that “before President Muhammadu Buhari took over the reins of power in 2015, you could not even travel between Lagos and Ibadan because of the total collapse of infrastructure in the country.

We also had challenges going to Abuja either through Mokowa or Kabba. The railway system was none existence. But since President Buhari came in most of these challenges in the area of infrastructure are being tackled.

“In fact, the greatest challenge we now on the Ilorin-Mokowa is the high rate of accidents because that road is arguably the best road in Nigeria today making motorists to drive recklessly on the road.”

IPOB not plotting to attack Lagos – Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has debunked allegations that the proscribed group is plotting an attack on Lagos state.

Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Hakeem Odumosu, on Monday, said the state Police Command is investigating the separatist group, Oodua Republic, and also the threat by IPOB to attack soft targets in the state.

Odumosu made this known during a security summit chaired by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Command has taken notice of agitators for Oodua Republic by some Yoruba separatist groups and the threats to disrupt law and order in the state. 24 of these groups have been identified and being closely monitored.

Similarly, the threat of IPOB to attack soft targets in Lagos is equally being put on the radar of the command intelligence gathering and other security services in the state. Strategies are being put in place to neutralise their activities, he said.

Reacting, Kanu took to his official Twitter account and described the allegation as a lie and a plot to fuel division.

“The public is hereby notified that the allegations that IPOB is plotting to attack Lagos is a LIE. Lagos State CP, Hakeem Odumosu who made the allegation is a former CSO to Tinubu & their intention is to fuel division between Yorubas & Biafrans. It won’t work. This is not 1967!” he tweeted.

COVID-19: FG re-imposes curfew, restriction on mass gathering

The Federal Government has re-introduced a nationwide curfew to curtail further spread of COVID-19.

National Incident Manager, Mukhtar Mohammed, disclosed this at the briefing of the Presidential Committee on COVID-19 in Abuja.

He said the curfew would take effect from midnight on Monday, May 10, and it will be from 12am to 4am.

Mohammed also said with effect from Tuesday, night clubs, gyms and other social spaces would remain closed till further notice.

He said gatherings of religious groups and weddings among others have been reduced to 50 percent attendance while official engagements, meetings and conferences should continue to hold virtually.

Nigerians in diaspora with expired passports can come back home for renewal – FG

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, says Nigerians in diaspora with expired passports can return home for the renewal “without fear of harassment”.

He gave the assurance at a webinar organised by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) on Saturday.

The minister said the establishment of front offices have been approved at Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt airports to help Nigerians “who arrive the country on expired passports to have their passports renewed immediately”.

It is in this regard that the NIS recently granted a waiver for Nigerians with expired passports desirous of coming to Nigeria to do so without fear of harassment by airlines,” he said.

Aregbesola also said he has given a May 31 deadline to clear all backlogs of passport applications.

He further explained that the delay in passport issuance experienced by Nigerians is one of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: “The Nigerian Immigration Service in recent time has been facing challenges in passport issuing, particularly because of a shortage of booklet, both locally and abroad. The ministry and NIS have been frantically working to resolve this.

I gave a May 31st deadline to clear all backlogs of passport application. To ensure a permanent solution to the recurrent scarcity of booklet, the federal government is at an advanced stage of domesticating the production of passport booklets here in Nigeria.

So, with what we are commencing on June 1st, I am confident that we shall no longer experience any shortage of booklets and the issuance and renewal of passports will be seamless starting from the 1st of June.

“To ensure efficient and effective service delivery to Nigerians, we have recently reviewed the passport issuing process with a view to streamlining the process for better performance while also eliminating the activities of touts.

All passport applications and issuance are to be made online. Effective June 1, all passport application and issuance will take a period of six weeks to enable the NIS to carry out due diligence on all applicants.”

Bayelsa Councillor rejects fundraising after she built bridge with funds meant for her official car

A Bayelsa State councillor, Onem Miracle Tyna, has rejected offers of a GoFundMe or any other fundraising campaign planned on her behalf by members of the public.

According to reports, the 31-year-old councillor in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state had used money meant for the purchase of her official car to construct concrete bridge which links over four communities in her ward.

She had done this despite the discouragement from people who warned her of the monetary expense of such an undertaking.

Before and after photos of the bridge had gone viral and members of the public hailed Tyna for her selfless service.

The public commendation also drew the attention of Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri, who reportedly invited the councillor to the state Government House.

She tweeted; “After due consultations from well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad

“I want to formally decline the offer to raise a GoFundMe or any form of CrowdFunding for any purpose whatsoever.

I appreciate every effort so far, but this decision is necessary and does not mean to make anyone feel bad.

“While I am [focused] on making [a] lasting impact within the little at my disposal, I know and I believe without doubt that H.E Senator Douye Diri will support me [to] do more for the people.

“Let’s all stay focused on being a true Servant to the people.”

President Buhari should be impeached – Northern Elders

The Northern Elders Forum, (NEF), have called for President Muhammadu Buhari’s impeachment following his inability to solve Nigeria’s insecurity challenges.

Speaking in an interview with AIT on Monday morning, the NEF spokesman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said the nation could not wait two more years for Buhari to address the issues of insecurity.

He noted that those who had the constitutional responsibility to protect Nigeria must realise that the country was in a dire state and do something other than making promises.

The spokesman said the second option is for citizens to get together and decide to do something.

Baba-Ahmed said; “The third option is that those leaders who are failing will recognise the fact that they are the problem and resign because they clearly have nothing to offer in terms of leadership.

“As our democratic system provides, those with the responsibility to get them off should impeach those who are failing. If the president can’t deliver, he should be impeached.

“We don’t have a National Assembly that appears to have the level of patriotism and concern beyond partisan politics to realise that when this roof falls, it also falls on their heads.

Lawmakers want EFCC to probe alleged mismanagement of N165bn by suspended NPA boss, Bala-Usman

The travails of the suspended Managing Director of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) Hadiza Bala Usman continues as the Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has implored the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence investigations into alleged mismanagement of N165 billion at the NPA.

The Caucus disclosed this in a statement signed on Monday by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Honourable Ndudi Elumelu.

According to the caucus, such a huge crime needs to be unravelled by an independent investigative panel.

The statement reads, “Our Caucus holds that the mere suspension of the indicted Managing Director of the NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, and the resort to an administrative panel of enquiry even after the report by the Supervising Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, exposed an unremitted and possibly diverted operating surplus of N165 billion, amounts romancing and perfuming corruption by the APC-led Federal Government.

“The Minority Caucus also believes that the recourse to an administrative instead of a full-scale criminal investigation can only serve as a decoy to shield some other APC government officials involved in the looting spree at NPA and other affiliated agencies in the transport sector.”

The lawmakers also expressed concerns that an administrative panel may be subject to manipulations and partisan influences as a result of any system-wide investigation into the alleged monumental fraud.

As representatives of the suffering people of Nigeria, our Caucus is particularly very worried that such monumental lootings are going on at a time terrorists, bandits, unknown gunmen, and criminal militias are reigning supreme across the length and breadth of the country and life has consequently become the cheapest article in the country,” the lawmakers said.

Senator Abaribe should be in prison for not producing Nnamdi Kanu – Deputy Speaker

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase has said that the Minority Leader of the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe should be in prison for failing to produce leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu who he stood as a surety for in court.

Wase, who represents Plateau state in the Green chamber, said this while responding to a Point of Order raised by Sada Soli of Katsina state during plenary on Thursday May 6.

He backed his claim with the imprisonment of Borno state lawmaker, Senator Ali Ndume by Justice Okon Abang for failing to produce Abdulrasheed Maina, former head of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT) whom he had stood for as surety.

The Deputy Speaker said; “Ordinarily, for failing to produce Kanu Nnamdi, he (Sen Abaribe) should be in prison, just like Ndume was taken to prison.

I see somebody as Abaribe, who is the leader in the senate, championing that. Yes, there are many flaws. He bailed Kanu Nnamdi and during the ENDSARS, we knew what happened. Kanu then was the one who was asking for the head of Tinubu, destroy this, destroy that in the nation. But we have allowed him. He knew what happened to Ndume.

“Ndume for bailing Maina was taken to prison for not producing him, but we allowed this man to go as opposition person. And that is why they could send everything back to the person. I am a presiding officer, I wish to be neutral as much as possible.”

The APC Senator also accused House Minority Leader, Ndidi Elumelu of mis-respresenting what happened at the executive session of the lower chamber of the national assembly.

He said; “Mr Speaker, it was a confidential matter. You know the meaning of executive session. He couldn’t have gone there to report that one. Mr Speaker, I want to say that there is a kind of false platform that I am seeing because after that meeting sir, PDP caucus of both chambers went and had another discussion, a kind of build-up on the security situation. And I think Mr Speaker, we need to be serious.

I think there is a need for us, as a system, to change our tactics. It is not about opposition. If you are going to do opposition, do opposition that is right, give factual views and also be part of the solution to problems.”

Uzoma Abonta, representing Abia state, however countered Wase’s claim by stating that Nnamdi Kanu jumped bail after the military invaded his home. He also pointed out that the matter was already in court and making such a demand will amount to interfering in a judicial decision.

Abonta said; “The last contact the man in question had was with the military. The Senator who bailed the man was going to court regularly. The senator did not default. He was called to show cause and he showed cause successfully. Why is it a point of reference in the parliament?”

Insecurity: We won’t relocate AFRICOM to Nigeria, others – US replies Buhari

The United States has said there is no plan to relocate its Africa Command (AFRICOM) from its current base in Stuttgart, Germany to Nigeria or any other African nation despite the worsening state of insecurity in the region.

The US Department of Defense, gave the response barely two weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari appealed to the US government to consider relocating AFRICOM to Africa to assist Nigeria and other adjoining countries to combat worsening terrorism, banditry and other security crises.

Germany-based Africa Command (AFRICOM) is the US military headquarters that oversees its operations in Africa.

Buhari said; “The security challenges in Nigeria remain of great concern to us and impacted more negatively, by existing complex negative pressures in the Sahel, Central and West Africa, as well as the Lake Chad Region.”

He added; “In this connection, and considering the growing security challenges in West and Central Africa, Gulf of Guinea, Lake Chad region and the Sahel, weighing heavily on Africa, it underscores the need for the United States to consider relocating AFRICOM headquarters from Stuttgart, Germany to Africa and near the Theatre of Operation.”

However, responding to an email inquiry from The PUNCH, the US government through The Pentagon, on Thursday ruled out any plan to relocate AFRICOM from its current base in Germany to Nigeria or any part of Africa.

It said previous studies have shown that the cost of relocating AFRICOM from Germany to Africa is very huge.

In the emailed response to The Punch on whether the US would consider Nigeria’s request to relocate AFRICOM to the continent, The Pentagon said although it would continue to value Nigeria and other countries in Africa as important partners, the American government would not consider relocating AFRICOM to any part of the African continent at the moment.

It would be inappropriate to speculate on any future actions. However, at this time, moving this headquarters (AFRICOM HQ) to Africa is not part of any plans, but USAFRICOM’s commitment to their mission, our African and other partners, remains as strong today as when we launched this command more than a decade ago,” US Pentagon spokesperson, Ms Cindi King said.

King also ruled out any plan to consider Buhari’s request in an ongoing global US defense review.

She said; “Although there is an ongoing Global Posture Review, the relocation of Combatant Command headquarters is outside the scope of its assessment. In the case of AFRICOM, previous studies have concluded that the cost associated with the relocation of this headquarters is significant and likely to incur the expense of other engagement opportunities and activities that more directly benefit our valued African partners.

“We greatly value the partnership with Nigeria and appreciate President Buhari’s recognition of the United States’ positive contribution to African peace and security, as well as other regional partners that have made similar past pronouncements. The United States remains committed to continuing our close partnership with African countries and organisations to promote security and stability.”

#Insecurity: Wike says El-Rufai is reaping from evil he plotted against others.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has attributed the security crisis in Kaduna state to the evil the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai plotted against others.

The governor alleged that El-Rufai was reaping from the evil he plotted against Rivers State in the past.

Wike said this when the Vice President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, Obiageli Ejezie, led other leaders of the association to the Government House, Port Harcourt, to confer on him the aide, Kelvin Ebiri/2020 Good Governance Award for his outstanding achievements in project execution in Rivers State.

In a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri said the All Progressives Congress (APC) promised in 2015 to offer better governance than former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said, “There can’t be good governance without security and this is based on the rule of law. All of us are living witnesses that in 2015, it was alleged that the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan could not perform.

“So, Nigeria needed a change. What has happened to the change? They have taken Nigeria back by 50 years.

“Now, you wake up every morning, students are being kidnapped in so-and-so state university; people have been killed in so-and-so state. It has become the norm.

“Just wake up in the morning and the first thing you will see on the front page of the dailies is ’10 people have been kidnapped in Niger State; 20 have been killed in Zamfara State, five have been killed in Imo’ and this happens virtually every day. So, where are we heading to?

“I remember when I came in 2015, when they were honouring one of their friends as a minister on live television, Channels, el-Rufai had the temerity to say (my) election could not stand in Rivers State and that they would kick me out.”

Video of Sheikh Gumi demanding President Buhari’s resignation (Watch)

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has been seen in a viral video demanding the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the scholar, he is calling for Buhari to resign the same way he called for the resignation of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

It is not immediately clear when the video was recorded, but Gumi noted in the clip that Jonathan was more democratic and allowed freedom of speech.

You can’t abuse everyone in Nigeria and demand presidency – El-Rufai tells Igbos

Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that the emergence of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction will only become reality if the people of the South-East stop threatening the country with secession.

El-Rufai said the regions that have produced Presidents that ruled the country achieved the feats by negotiating with people and political parties, stressing that politics has to do with negotiations and convincing others on why they should vote for the candidates.

The governor said this during a webinar organised by the Africa Leadership Group and tagged: ‘Developing a Viable Nation 2’.

He said Igbo people will not get the presidency by abusing everyone in Nigeria, adding that the region needs to seek alliance with other regions if they want someone from the region to be the next President.

El-Rufai, while responding to a question about why someone of Igbo extraction has not become Nigeria’s president yet, said; “I don’t think anyone has stopped the South-East from going for the Presidency. But you see, you cannot get the Presidency of Nigeria by threats or by shouting victimhood. This is a political process and you have to engage other parts of Nigeria to convince them to support you.

“That is what everyone does. That is what Jonathan did in 2011; that is what Buhari did in 2015 and 2019. That is what every President does. You don’t stay in your corner, abuse everyone in Nigeria and say give me Presidency. It is not going to happen.

Presidency is not by allocation. It is the result of a political process. You join a political party, your party negotiates with other parts of the country and it happens. That is how it is done. And you cannot get it by sitting down or threatening secession. It won’t work.

“I think the South-East is going about it the wrong way because if you look at the APC (All Progressives Congress) for instance, we do not have many footprints in the South-East.”

We planned to attack abductors of Kaduna Forestry students even if it meant killing the students – Governor El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, has revealed that his government planned to attack and kill the bandits that abducted students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, even if it meant some students would die in the process.

El-Rufai explained that such action would only be considered as collateral damage and a price he would be willing to pay instead of paying ransom to the criminals.

Daily Post reports that Governor spoke on Thursday during a webinar organised by the Africa Leadership Group, while responding to a question on his refusal to negotiate with bandits.

El-Rufai further revealed that before the planned attack could be carried out, the bandits hurriedly changed location.

He said; “Two days after the abduction of the Afaka young people, I was assured by the air force and the army that they knew where the kidnappers were with the students and they had encircled them.

“We were going to attack them. We would lose a few students but we would kill all the bandits and we would recover some of the students.

“That was our plan. That was the plan of the air force and the army… But they slipped through the cordon of the army. That is why they were not attacked.

“We know it is risky, we know in the process we may lose some of the abductees but it is a price we have to pay.

This is war, there will always be collateral damage in war and we will rather do that than pay money because paying money has not solved the problem anywhere in the world.”

Recall that the remaining abducted 27 students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, regained their freedom on Wednesday.
