Beyoncé to donate $500,000 to people impacted by the eviction crisis.

(CNN)Beyoncé will offer $5,000 grants to help people facing foreclosures or evictions due to the housing crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

People can apply for the grants beginning January 7, 2021, the singer announced on her website Tuesday. Grants will be sent out to the 100 people selected in late January.

“Beyoncé is continuing her heart of support and helping where needed most. Phase Two of the BeyGOOD Impact Fund will now help those impacted by the housing crisis,” according to a news release.
“The housing moratorium is set to end on December 26th, resulting in mortgage foreclosures and rental evictions. Many families are impacted, due to the pandemic that resulted in job loss, sickness and overall economy downturn,” the release said.

‘I have $4 to my name.’ An extended eviction ban isn’t enough for some struggling renters. An estimated 9.2 million renters who have lost income during the pandemic are behind on rent, according to an analysis of Census data by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

Once the moratoriums are lifted, many of these renters will be expected to pay their entire back rent or come up with some sort of payment plan with their landlord — or they could face losing their homes.

Those who apply for the grants must submit the necessary documentation to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) by the deadline.

This is not Beyoncé’s first effort to help communities hurt by the pandemic. BeyGOOD has teamed up with the NAACP to support Black-owned small businesses impacted by the pandemic, so far providing 250 businesses with $10,000 grants.

In May, she set up mobile Covid-19 testing sites with her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, in their hometown of Houston, Texas. She also donated, in partnership with Jack Dorsey’s Start Small fund, $6 million to coronavirus relief in April.

Justice for Don Davis : Medical report to be released at the appropriate time

The medical report on an 11-year-old schoolboy of Deeper Life High School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, who was allegedly molested by some senior pupils of the school, is out, the mother of the victim, Mrs Deborah Okezie, has said.

She, however, said the report would be released to the public at the appropriate time.

The report is out but we will release it to the public at the appropriate time.” She also did not disclose when she would make the report public.

The management of the Deeper Life High School, on Monday, suspended the principal of the school, Solomon Ndidi, over the alleged molestation of Okezie’s son, Don Davis, who has since been hospitalised following the incident.

Okezie, who had taken to social media to demand justice for her son, said she had gone to the school and saw that her son was a shadow of himself.

Okezie noted that after much inquiry from her son, he alleged that the principal of the school moved him to the senior pupils’ hostel for urinating on his bed, adding that the senior pupils molested him by pushing their hands and legs into his anus and threatened to kill him if he reported to the principal or his mother.

The mother noted that when she reported to the principal, he promised to move the 11-year-old boy back to the junior hostel but reportedly failed to do so.

However, the school management in a statement on Monday said an investigation had been initiated into the matter.

Also, Governor Udom Emmanuel has mandated his Commissioner for Education, Enobong Mboho, to commence investigation into the case.

Up there???? you have over 20 different calendars in use or once in use in the world. The Gregorian Calendar in use in most part of the world, Nigeria inclusive, is not the only regulator of man and his activities on earth.

In other words, while we’re in a mad rush to make it before December 31st, 2020, some persons in another part of the world are less concerned about our death-race hustling. This is because these Calendars do not begin and end the same time.

Ògá, take it easy with yourself. Man invented calendar and over the years adjusted it, abandoned it or reinvented it to suit his purpose. You must know January 1st is not the beginning of the year for everyone on earth. Likewise, December 31st isn’t the end of the year for everybody on earth. Instead of killing yourself for not achieving your goals for the year, try to draw up a broad plan for yourself and pursue it throughout the days of your sojourn on earth.

Nigerians Calls For Probe Of Deeper Life School Over Assault On Student.

A Twitter hashtag #JusticeForDonDavid has been trending with many calling on relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. Some Nigerians have taken to the social media to demand justice for Don David, an 11-year-old junior secondary school student. He was allegedly molested by his seniors at Deeper Life High School, Uyo Campus in Akwa Ibom State.

The development comes after the victim’s mother, Deborah Okezie, went live on Facebook to share her pains about the health of her son, whom she said had just returned from the school on Friday.
This has generated mixed reactions on social media as some Nigerians were calling for justice while others insisted that both sides of the story must be heard.

Here are reactions from Twitter;

A Twitter user, @bimbo_cash, said, “Deeper Life High School Uyo Should be investigated #JusticeForDavid.”

Hechidere Uche @HechiUche tweeted, “Mehn this woman should take this up seriously o. She should get the government involved, and serious investigation should happen.”

Odogwu @Daddy_Nomso said, “Look at how good he looked in the before photo, the name is not an assurance that everything goes well there. Smh everyone involved in this mess should be suspended & arrested at least.”

For Mercy @faittymercy, Deeper Life High Schools should be investigated and not only the one at Uyo. “Deeper Life High School should be looked into generally. They treat students badly, treat staff worse. I have a brother working in the school and all they do is frustrate teachers. A church school for that matter.”

Brown sugar @rutina57 tweeted, “You might not expect much from a federal boarding school but you have every right to expect more from a Christian boarding school worth over half a million naira. May justice be served! That 11-year-old boy is clearly traumatised #justicefordondavid.”

@proresumefix wrote, “injustice to one is injustice to all. A boy was raped in school, please speak up! #JusticeforDonDavid.”

Oluwafunmilayo @Funmi_kolz said, “My cousin was taken to this same school but after his first year, the parents withdrew him. He was looking like a piece of shit. More like the school was having a negative impact in his life and he was always being bullied too. I just hope this boy gets justice for all these.”

Uncle Salami @Sunnycent wrote, “It happened in one of its high school campuses. Other students from other campuses said they had a completely different experience. However, that Uyo branch needs to be THOROUGHLY investigated and whoever is guilty should be brought to book. We can’t keep normalizing suffering.”

However, some commenters are interested in what the school management has to say.

Marvellous Ola @marvelous_ola said, “We should be careful with our conclusions and statements. Until the management comes out and tells people what really happened. We should not judge.”

Odo @Odonatoo added, “We must slow down in judging the school by hearing from one end. The issues stated by the parent is strange to d principles of d school. Something is wrong somewhere. This is certainly not Deeper Life High School.”

Below is the trending video of Don David’s mother clamouring for justice;

Intimate Photos of Football Stars , Diego Costa and Gabriel Jesus in Bed with the Same Mystery Woman, Found in a Bible at a Charity Shop.

The Manchester City and Atletico Madrid strikers appeared topless in the bed with the same woman in the photos which were discovered last week.

According to the UK Sun, the Bible was in one of two bags handed in by a woman to a charity shop in Marylebone, Central London.

The report said the two bags were handed in in May, but the photos were not spotted until staff started sorting them last week.

A source said: “The pictures were instantly recognisable as Jesus and Costa – and both were with the same woman.

“They were both laughing and seemed incredibly relaxed in her company while larking around on pillows without their shirts on. The pictures appear to have been taken at different times.

“The charity shop normally gets jigsaws and second-hand clothes, so this was certainly a change from that.”

The source said: “A woman of Spanish or Latin appearance dropped off the bags.

“She said a friend left the UK and wanted to get rid of a few bits and pieces. The woman who brought the bags in has never been back so no one knew what to do with the pics.”

One photo showed a heavily tattooed Jesus pulling a face for the camera.

However, It’s unclear when the intimate photos were taken.

Diego Costa, 32, who played for Chelsea for three years is now at Atletico Madrid. He is married with two daughters

Gabriel Jesus, 23, who joined Manchester City in 2017 from Palmeiras, broke up with his ex-girlfriend, model Fernanda Queiroz earlier this year.

Lagos May slip into a Second wave of Coronavirus pandemic- Babajide Sanwo-olu.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday said Lagos may slip into a second wave of Coronavirus pandemic, if residents failed to comply with the precautionary measures against the spread of virus.

The governor disclosed that of every 100 tests that the state has performed, an average of 10 turn out to be positive, stating it is an increase from the five per hundred recorded in September, though lower than the peak in August, which was between 20 and 30 per hundred.

“This suggests the existence of active community transmission, and represents the very likely possibility of the emergence of a second wave in Lagos State.

“This second wave calls for a full re-awakening of caution and precaution. The complacency that crept in over the last few months as a result of our early interventions when cases started to decline from our peak in August, must now give way to an abundance of vigilance.”

As a measure against a possible second wave of COVID-19, Sanwo-Olu asked all public servants from GL 14 and below, except emergency workers and first responders, to work from home as from Monday, December 21st for the next 14 days – in the first instance.

He also said all schools must shut down with immediate effect, and until further notice, while concerts, carnivals and street parties are banned in Lagos State until further notice, just as night clubs have not been allowed to open yet, so all night clubs in Lagos must immediately shut down, until further notice.

Sanwo-Olu added that the midnight to 4am curfew imposed by the Federal Government remains while the protocol of ‘No Mask No Entry’ must be enforced by all public places: Offices, Businesses, Markets, Shops, and so on must be adhered to.

The governor further said all places of must ensure that no gathering exceeds two hours, and also that no gathering exceeds 50 per cent of the maximum capacity of the venue, with all event planners must obtain prior clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission for all events, and ensure that any planned gatherings do not exceed 300 people.

He said where the capacity of a venue exceeds 300 and permission has been granted, the occupancy shall not be more than 50 per cent of such a venue.

“The Safety Commission has been directed to visit Event Centres and gauge compliance with the established guidelines, to stop the virus from spreading. If there is evidence of lack of compliance at any Event Centre, it will be shut down immediately.

“Security agents have been mandated to ensure full enforcement, without exception. No one will be deemed to be above the law.

Any and all breaches of these regulations and public health protocols will lead to immediate closure as well as attract heavy fines, and any other sanctions and penalties deemed fit, in line with the Lagos State Infectious Diseases Control Regulation 2020.

“Event Centre Owners/Planners/Vendors will be responsible for any breach of protocols by their Staff.

“We will continue to closely watch the profile of the unfolding situation, while also awaiting updates and pronouncements from the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. We will also keep working with the Presidential Task Force to ensure that the gains of the recent past are not frittered away on the altar of festivities and sheer carelessness. The lives of all Lagosians, including our elders and other vulnerable citizens, matter.”

Sanwo-Olu implored residents to take responsibility for the welfare and safety of all while they enjoy the festive season with friends and families. “It is important that as a community we strictly abide by the above regulations in the context of a global pandemic, without prejudicing our efforts to keep the economy running and maintain our means of livelihood to a sufficient extent.

“Let us use this festive season to spend quality time in small but controlled gatherings with family and friends in the spirit of the season. This virus does not discriminate. We must take responsibility, and not treat this pandemic with levity.

American Man Who Makes A Living By Impregnating Over 150 Women, Is On Tour In Britain To Impregnate more.

A man who makes a living by impregnating women has expressed happiness as he travels to UK for another round.

A man who became famous by impregnating women and fathering over 150 kids has said he’s not tired.

Joe Donor who makes a living by impregnating women is regarded as one of the world’s most prolific sperm donors.

He says Christmas has come early after being told three more British women are pregnant with his children.

‘Joe Donor’, from the US state of Vermont, has already fathered 150 kids – impregnating about 10 women a year – and has donated his sperm while travelling across the UK.

Finding out that three more British women are set to give birth to his children in 2021 is the “best Christmas present of all”, he said, adding that the Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t slowed him down.

The 50-year-old, who anonymously donates his sperm and never uses his real name in interviews, has been living in Ilford, north-east London, for the past three months after arriving in September.

Joe said: “Helping women create the gift of life is the best present of all.“I’m always ready to climb down that chimney and give women the dream baby they’ve always wanted”.“Since arriving in the UK in September I have met up with about 15 women”.

“Most of them don’t want to have sex as they say it causes too many issues in their relationship or they’re lesbians but it’s more effective when it’s natural.

“I’d say about three of those women I have met I’ve had sex with and two of those are pregnant.

“But not everyone reports back and lets me know if they’re expecting.

“Since my time in the UK I have travelled to Wales, Hull, Birmingham, Portsmouth and Kent.

“I feel like I’m the luckiest man in the world to be able to help women in their time of need.

“It was lovely to hear the news that three women I met during my time in the UK are now pregnant”.

“There’s no better Christmas present than that.”

Joe said that the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t slowed him down this year and that on average, he impregnates 10 women per year.

He added: “I’ll never know the exact number but it’s definitely in the double figures every year.

“I will use a mask when having sex to help stop the spread of corona virus but you cannot keep socially distanced.

“I love seeing photos of the babies when they’re born as a lot of them do look like me.

“I don’t financially gain from providing my sperm to women, I just enjoy helping people.

“Luckily I run a few online businesses so I’m always available and can provide sperm whenever they’re ovulating.”

Joe has travelled across America, Argentina, Italy, Singapore, The Philippines and the UK donating his sperm.

He added: “I have babies all over the world and although people always worry over incestual issues that is a concern for clinics because mothers and children never meet their donors”.

“I meet mothers in person when donating, and I am happy to meet any child at any time, and keep in touch with mothers who want to keep in touch, so that everyone knows of half-siblings, and this problem has never happened with me or any other private sperm donor.

“I started donating sperm in 2008 and have fathered on average 10 children per year.

“I have always said I wouldn’t father more than 2500 but that would technically be impossible unless I lives until the age of 250.

“I aim to donate my sperm for as long as it works which could be until I’m in my 90’s.”

Joe opts to have yearly medical checks to ensure he’s practising as safe as possible.

He adds: “I have a health check at least annually but if a woman requests more frequent testing, I will have another check on demand.

Aisha Buhari Relocates To Dubai, Cites Insecurity In Aso Villa.

A top source disclosed on Tuesday that the First Lady has now relocated quietly to the UAE for over three months. No one knows when she would return to the country.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has been in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, since September after the wedding of her daughter, Hanan, and has therefore not been involved in any government activity, SaharaReporters has gathered.

We gathered that the First Lady is not in a hurry to return, despite spending over three months, as she reportedly stated that the Aso Rock Villa was not secure for her family.

This concern was triggered by a shooting incident which occurred in June and caused some panic among occupants of the Aso Villa.

It was reported that there was a crisis in Aso Villa after security details of the President’s wife removed Buhari’s Personal Assistant, Sabiu ‘Tunde’ Yusuf, from the place after he refused to embark on a 14-day isolation period upon returning from a trip to Lagos.

Shortly afterwards, the First Lady’s ADC, Usman Shugaba, in an attempt to apprehend Yusuf, reportedly fired gunshots but the President’s aide escaped to the residence of Mamman Daura where he spent the night.

Yusuf soon ordered the arrest of Aisha’s ADC and other security details in connivance with Buhari’s chief security officer. Buhari had ordered a probe into the alleged security breach inside the Presidential Villa.

Inside sources say the latest step by @NGRPresident could further stir bad blood among different power blocs in Aso Villa, especially with the First Lady.

It will be recalled that on September 4, Aisha Buhari held a flamboyant wedding for President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Hanan, and Mohammed Turad.

Apart from the opulence on display, event planners for the wedding were flown in from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to add colour and spice to the ceremony.

Earlier in August, the First Lady had also flown to Dubai in a private jet owned by billionaire Mohammed Indimi under the guise of a medical emergency to shop for luxury items ahead of the wedding.

Most of the items, including souvenirs used for the wedding occasion, were brought in from the Arabian country.

A top source disclosed on Tuesday that the First Lady has now relocated quietly to the UAE for over three months. No one knows when she would return to the country.

The Presidency source said, “Aisha Buhari has relocated quietly to Dubai. She has been going to the UAE even before the daughter’s wedding.

“Before the wedding, she also stayed there for months during lockdown, shopping and relaxing. But since the end of the wedding, she has been away owing to security concerns in the villa.”

Some Nigerians have noticed her disappearance from the public space for the past three months. Checks on her Twitter page shows she last tweeted in October.

It was gathered that occasionally, she issued statements announcing the distribution of palliatives but has never been seen at any official functions.

The September wedding, which had security personnel prohibiting guests from taking photographs, saw the event planners and other vendors flown in from Dubai pocketing huge amounts in United States dollars for their services.

Kaduna state government warns about possible lockdown.

The Kaduna State Government has warned that it will have no option than to shut down public spaces, including schools, markets, offices and places of worship if the current rate of Covid-19 infection persists.

There has been a steady raise in the rate of infection with 117 positive cases recorded on Friday.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday in Kaduna, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Mohammed-Baloni, said: “If the rate of spread retains or exceeds the current pace, then we will have no option than to recommend the temporary closure of public spaces, including schools, markets, offices and places of worship.”

Giving an update on the rising cases of the infection in the state, the commissioner appealed for urgent action by residents to help stop the spread of the disease and save lives.

“In absolute and relative terms, Kaduna State is now recording high infection figures reminiscent of the first wave of Covid-19 spread in April, May and June 2020.

“The lowering of the infection rate following the first wave encouraged the government to approve the recommendation of the state Covid-19 Taskforce for a significant reopening of the state.

However, we are saddened to report that the conditions that compelled the 75-day lockdown of the state are now being replicated,” the commissioner said.

According to her, “On 26th November, 2020, the state recorded 74 positive results from 531 samples.

“The quantum of infections since then suggest both high infection rates and the reality that a new wave of infections is spreading across the state.

“As at yesterday, 11th December, the state recorded 117 positive cases from 518 samples. This translates to almost one in four samples testing positive.”

She said the Ministry of Health expected some increase in infections after the reopening of schools, markets, places of worship and recreational centres, noting however, that the figures easily outstripped the estimated projection.

“While infections cut across age groups, this new wave especially affects those aged between 10 and 35.

“There is now a veritable danger to lives and livelihoods with the renewed Covid-19 infections.

“If the spread continues at the current rate, it may challenge and overwhelm the health system despite our efforts to improve the resilience of that sector.

“We cannot allow this to happen. Kaduna State contained the first wave because, among other measures, most citizens observed and practised the Covid-19 prevention protocols,” Baloni said.

She appealed to residents to recommit themselves to behaviours that protect them and their families from the infection by voluntarily complying with the Covid-19 protocols to avoid the worst case scenarios and limit the spread of the disease.

“We had previously observed the wholesale abandonment of any compliance with protective measures.

We cautioned against this and reminded citizens that the relaxation of lockdown measures did not mean that Covid-19 had been defeated or disappeared.

“The rising infection is a reminder that Covid-19 remains a potent danger to lives and livelihoods. Anyone who remembers the pains and sacrifices of the lockdown period will not want that to be repeated,” she stated.

The commissioner said that as the lead agency for implementing Covid-19 containment, the Ministry of Health will be availing the state Covid-19 Taskforce of all the relevant data to monitor and access the rate of voluntary compliance.

If the rate of spread retains or exceeds the current pace, then we will have no option than to recommend the temporary closure of public spaces, including schools, markets, offices and places of worship. But there is a less costly way out. And that involves citizens living their lives and conducting themselves in ways that do not spread the disease. That way, lives and livelihoods are protected, while public health officers try to contain and manage the disease without causing painful disruptions.

“I urge all citizens, businesses and organisations to appreciate the danger that we face and let us all work together to avoid emergency conditions. We have done it before. Let us do it again,” she said.

Ministry of Petroleum Resources spent N116m on pens, letter heads, papers and toners.

The Auditor-General Office of the Federation has said the Ministry of Petroleum Resources spent N116 million for the supply of pens, letter heads, papers and toners.

The findings of the Auditor General’s Office on mismanagement of public funds contained in its 2015 audit report was presented to the Senate Committee on Public Account by the AuGF on Thursday, December 10.

A breakdown of expenditure showed the disbursement of N14.5 million for the supply of Schneider biros, N46 million for letter head papers and N56 million for toners. The query issued to the Ministry by the AuGF reads in part:

“The contract for the supply of Schneider biros worth N14.5 million was split into smaller packages of less than N5 million each was awarded to four different company in order to circumvent the permanent secretary’s approval threshold of N5 million,”

“Similarly, the contract for the printing of the ministry’s letter head worth N46 million was also split and awarded to 11 different contractors. Also, the contract for the supply of toners worth N56 million was split and awarded to seven different contractors. The Permanent Secretary has been requested to explain this contravention of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.”

At the PAC session, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Mathew Urhoghide accused the Ministry of Petroleum Resources of frivolous expenditures and asked the representative of the Ministry, Godwin Akubo, to respond to the query by the Auditor General of the Federation.

In his response, the Permanent Secretary, however, justified the expenditure, insisting that no law was breached.

“The action of the ministry was a quick response to need of the various department in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources,” stated Mr Akubo.

“These awards followed normal rules and procedures. The contract were not split. They were awarded to the various contractors at different times when item were needed. The sum of N46.6 million used for printing of letter head papers followed due process and large sum of money is explained by the volume of the letter head papers produced for most of department as per attached different letter headed papers.” he added.

However, the Chairman of the Committee expressed dissatisfaction with the defence of the Perm. Sec and therefore directed his Committee Secretariat to document the money spent and asked for refund from the officers involved in the ministry.

Prominent German news magazine has named President Trump loser of the year.

Prominent German news magazine Der Spiegel on Thursday named President Trump its “loser of the year,” the same day Time magazine named President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris its “Person of the Year.”

In an article titled “Der Verlierer des Jahres,” which translates as “The Loser of the Year,” the publication’s Washington bureau chief Roland Nelles and Berlin-based correspondent Ralf Neukirch described Trump as “a man who … was never concerned with the common good, but always with one thing – himself.”

“Nothing is normal under Trump,” the article added. “He refuses to admit defeat. Instead, he speaks of massive electoral fraud, although there is no evidence for it. The whole thing is not surprising. Trump’s presidency ends as it began. Without decency and without dignity.”

While several major news outlets declared Biden the projected winner of the election on Nov. 7, Trump has since refused to concede, repeating unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud as part of a Democratic attempt to steal the election from him.

Since the election, Trump’s legal team has launched a multistate legal battle challenging election results and claiming voting irregularities. Several of these lawsuits have been thrown out by courts, citing a lack of evidence.

The article came as Time published its selection of Biden and Harris as their top people of the year Thursday evening, noting the challenges facing the duo as they take on rapid coronavirus surges across the country, as well as Harris’s historic win as the first African American, first woman and first South Asian American to serve as vice president.

Germans have consistently shown unfavorable views of Trump, with a January poll from the Pew Research Centershowing that roughly 3 in 4 or more lacked confidence in the American president in Germany, a view shared by people in Sweden, France, Spain and the Netherlands.

Trump previously vied for Time’s “Person of the Year” title before receiving it himself in 2016, writing the year prior when German Chancellor Angela Merkel received the recognition that Merkel was “ruining Germany.”

“I told you @TIME Magazine would never pick me as person of the year despite being the big favorite,” he wrote in 2015.

Ex AGF Mohammed Adoke granted permission by court to travel for Medical check-up.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted permission to a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), to travel for a medical check-up at the United Arab Emirate, where he was in exile for about five years.

Adoke had fled to the UAE shortly after leaving office in 2015.

He returned to the country and was immediately arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as he arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on December 19, 2019.

He has since been facing multiple charges, including money laundering, before various courts which had ordered the seizure of his passport as a bail condition.

Ruling on Adoke’s application for permission to travel to the UAE on Friday, Justice Ekwo ordered the release of his passport to enable him to travel to the foreign land on health grounds from December 15 and return on or before January 10, 2021, Punch reports.

Already, his trial alongside a businessman, Aliyu Abubakar, has been scheduled to resume before the court on January 11.

In granting Adoke’s request on Friday, Justice Ekwo rejected the objection raised by the prosecuting counsel, Bala Sanga.

The judge upheld the contention of Adoke’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), saying such application was within the discretion of the court to grant.

He said the application was granted allowing the ex-AGF to travel to UAE on health grounds.

The EFCC accused Adoke and Abubakar of using large sums of money, which allegedly formed part of their unlawful activities, and accepting the amounts exceeding stated threshold outside a financial institution in violation of the money laundering law.

Federal government to slash price of data by up to 50%

The Federal Government on Thursday directed that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) put in place measures to effect more than 50 per cent reduction in data price.

The minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantamion Thursday broke the news in a statement.

Accordingly, the price data of 1GB has been reduced from 1000 naira to 487 naira beginning from last November.

The Minister said the new data price was in line with the directive he gave to the regulatory agency (NCC) to put measures in place to reduce the average cost of data in the country.

“The average cost of 1GB of data has reduced from the January 2020 cost of N1,000 to N487.18 in November, 2020.

“This was based on a report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) submitted to the Honourable Minister following the implementation of the directives,” Dr Pantami’s Technical Assistant, Mr Femi Adeluyi said in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.

Adeluyi who is Technical Assistant, Information and Technology said: “The Honourable Minister had inaugurated a Committee that developed the Nigerian National Broadband Plan (2020-2025) on the 16th of December, 2019.

“The Plan was unveiled and launched by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on the 19th of March, 2020.

“One of the goals of the Plan is to reduce the average cost of 1GB of data to a maximum of N390 by 2025.

“With the January 2020 baseline of N1,000 per GB, the maximum projected steady decrease for the end of each year was as follows: 2020 (N925), 2021 (N850), 2022 (N775), 2023 (N700), 2024 (N545) and 2025 (N390).

In line with Dr Pantami’s commitment to under promise and over deliver, the measures have caused the current cost of data to reduce significantly beyond the December 2020 projection of N925.

“Based on the Report by NCC, the average cost of data as at November 2020 was N487.18, which amounts to 47.33% lower than the projected value.

” The Report also indicates that the cost of data in November 2020 was less than 50% of the cost of data in January 2020.

“policies are in place to ensure that operators adopt competitive pricing that eschews unjustifiable margins. The general public may also wish to note that complaints about rapid data depletion are also being investigated.”

“The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, through the NCC, will continue to ensure that consumers enjoy a price regime that supports fairness and is friendly to consumers.
