Media personality, Denrele Edun, has been in the public glare for a while and is not a stranger to many.

Edun, who will clock 40 in two weeks, told Saturday Beats that his mother wanted him to get married so eagerly that she bought him diamond rings to propose to a lady.

He said, “I am not interested in the institution called marriage. I can say this because I am in control of my decisions. I set my principles, follow my guiding philosophies and do only what I want to do. I have not been lucky with love. I give out a lot of love but I do not get the same measure back. It is very hard to find people who genuinely reciprocate the kind of love I give.

TBT with “Bruno Mars”

Peter Gene Hernandez was born on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii, singer-songwriter Bruno Mars grew up in a very musical family. His father, Pete, was a Latin percussionist from Brooklyn, and his mother, Bernadette (“Bernie”), was a singer. Mars received his nickname, “Bruno,” while he was still a baby. “The name Bruno came from baby times,” older sister Jamie explained. “Bruno was always so confident, independent, really strong-willed and kind of a brute—hence the name Bruno—and it kind of just stuck.”

Mars attended Roosevelt High School, where he and several friends formed a band, the School Boys, performing classic oldies hits alongside his family’s act at the Ilikai Hotel in Honolulu. Mars credits his fearless stage presence to his unusual childhood. “Performing from such a young age just got me so comfortable on stage,” he said. “Growing up performing—that was normal for me. Everyone in my family sings, plays instruments. It’s what we do.”

By the early 2000s, Mars had begun to find success by writing songs for several popular artists, including Flo Rida’s smash hit “Right ‘Round,” Brandy’s “Long Distance” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire.” Mars also produced and co-wrote K’Naan’s “Wavin’ Flag,” Coca-Cola’s theme song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

After several years as one of the pop music industry’s premier songwriters, Mars finally broke out as a singer in his own right with the 2010 hit “Nothin’ on You.” The song was written for the Atlantic Records rapper B.o.B., but the record label decided to enlist Mars himself to croon the heartfelt chorus. The track proved an enormous hit, skyrocketing to No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart, and instantly transforming Bruno Mars from a behind-the-scenes composer into a pop performer.

Mars continued his immensely successful run with the release of his third studio effort, 24K Magic, in November 2016. The album included the catchy title track, a retro-tinted dance number in the vein of “Uptown Funk,” as well as the sultry “That’s What I Like,” which climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2016, Mars returned with another funk-flavored hit, “24K Magic,” and its parent album of the same title. Influenced by soul, funk, and ’90s R&B, 24K Magic peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and produced Mars’ seventh chart-topper, “That’s What I Like,” as well as “Finesse” with rapper Cardi B, and “Versace on the Floor,” which was also released as a remix by David Guetta. The album took home the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. In February 2019, Mars again collaborated with Cardi B on the track “Please Me,” which landed at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. That July, he paired with Ed Sheeran and Chris Stapleton on the song “Blow.” In early 2021, Mars debuted a new collaborative project with Anderson .Paak called Silk Sonic. After releasing their first single, “Leave the Door Open,” in March, the duo made their television debut with a performance at the Grammy Awards.

The Lagos State Government says N11bn had been budgeted for its Snacks for Thought programme.

It explained that the Snacks for Thought programme was created to complement the home grown school feeding programme of the Federal Government, which covered only pupils in primary one to primary three.

The government added that its feeding programme would take care of the pupils at the crèche and primary four to primary six.

Special Adviser of the Office of Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, made this known on Monday during the ministerial press briefing commemorating the second year anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Alausa, Ikeja.

She said, “The programme will cost the government N11bn. We are going to partner organisation on this. We already have over 400 volunteers that will work with us.”

Adebowale stated that a report by UNICEF in 2018 showed that an estimated 229,264 pupils were out of school in Lagos State.

She added; “In order to curb this rising numbers, we need more than statutory allocations. Intervention such as this will increase the rate of enrolment in schools and serve as a preventive security measure in reducing crime and hooliganism that may later on disrupt the socio-economic life of the state.”

I broke up with my boyfriend after I realized I could pay his monthly salary four times – Lady reveals

A beautiful lady has revealed she once broke up with a guy she was in a relationship with after she saw his monthly pay slip.

According to the young lady identified as @Bae_Tee_ on Twitter, her boyfriend was broke but she never noticed until she saw how much he was earning.

She said she was earning way above his pay and because she realised that he was not up to her level financially, she dumped him.

@Bae_Tee_ who shared the story in a series of tweets, said she called it quit with the young man because she could conveniently pay his monthly salary four times.

In her words; “There’s this guy i once dated two years, i saw his payslip, realized i could pay him his monthly salary 4 times a month. I tried to stay in the relationship but I failed, MEN HIDE YOUR PAYSLIPS.

The reason I didn’t realize he was broke for that long is because, I never asked him for a cent, i am a woman who does everything for herself financial side, like if i come to ur house, i want us to go out, i pay for it. I see a shortage in the house, i buy, that’s how the woman Who raised me did most of the things.

I never saw my grandma going to grandpa and ask for money because electricity is running out. She’d just buy, when grandpa gives her money, she’ll take, but whatever is needed, if it is not enough, she adds.
There was never a time in the house where we came to see that grandma had a salary greater than that of grandpa. Finances never brought any difference between the two. That’s how i am.

The reason i left is not merely the amount on that payslip. But then, why would he just relax with that. I mean, no side hustle nothing! I have way too many goals and dreams to date someone who gets paid salary and feel it is enough”

Prominent Black Lives Matter activist Sasha Johnson is critically ill

Prominent Black Lives Matter activist Sasha Johnson is critically ill after being shot in the head, her party says.

The Taking the Initiative Party said she was being treated in intensive care after being “brutally attacked” in the early hours of Sunday.

The group said the attack, which happened in Peckham, south London, followed “numerous death threats”.

Police have not confirmed her identity but said at this stage there was no evidence the attack was targeted.

Officers said the 27-year-old woman was taken to a south London hospital with life-threatening injuries and have appealed for witnesses.

Police said at this stage there was no evidence to suggest she had received any credible threats against her.

image captionIt is believed Ms Johnson had been at a party when she was shot

Imarn Ayton, a friend of Ms Johnson’s, told the BBC doctors had carried out surgery on her fellow activist which had gone well and she was “now with her parents”.

She said Ms Johnson had been at a party or gathering when she was injured but she did not believe “she was the intended victim”.

“As far as I am aware… this incident is more related to rival gangs as opposed to her activism,” Ms Ayton said.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have been investigating at the scene and the surrounding area and are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry.

It is believed the shooting happened near a house where a party was taking place and a number of people may have been in the area, a Met Police statement said.

image captionForensic officers have been carrying out searches in the area where Ms Johnson was shot

Det Ch Insp Jimi Tele said: “This was a shocking incident that has left a young woman with very serious injuries. Our thoughts are with her family who are being provided with support at this terribly difficult time.”

He added: “If you saw anything suspicious in the Consort Road area in the early hours of Sunday morning, or if you have heard information since that could help detectives, it is crucial that you get in touch.”

Ms Johnson, a graduate of Oxford Brookes University, has been a leading figure in the Black Lives Matter movement in the UK and is a member of the Taking the Initiative Party’s leadership committee.

image captionPolice said there was currently no evidence to suggest it was a targeted shooting

In a statement on Instagram, the party said Ms Johnson was a mother of two and a “powerful voice” who had always been fighting for black people and against the injustices that surround the black community.

“Let’s all come together and pray for Sasha, pray for her recovery and show our support to her family and loved ones,” it said.

Black Lives Matters UK tweeted it was shocked by the shooting of “a young mother and fearless political campaigner who was at the forefront of many BLM protests last summer”.

It said that while she was not part of their own organisation, “she impressively founded a new Black-led political party and was dedicated to resist anti-Black racism”.

Announcing that a vigil would be held for her on Monday afternoon at King’s College Hospital, it added: “Any attempt to intimidate or silence her, is an attack on all of us.”

Actress, Oloruntimilehin Bukola, popularly known as Kiitan Bukola, has revealed that her rape ordeal at the age of 10 had a long-term effect on her sexual life.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “I cannot remember what age I started taking alcohol but I started drinking beer in secondary school. My mom did not know about this habit and my father did not live with us. Drinking is an addiction for me. I find it difficult to make love without getting high, because of my rape ordeal. That way, I can do whatever I want. Also, I have to really share a close bond with my partner before I can get intimate.

Sometimes, I feel irritated, angry and paranoid for no reason. I still get flashes from the incident. I can picture his face clearly. However, I am really trying my best to stop my drinking habit. People close to me know that I always have (alcoholic) drinks around me.

“I did not want to tell anyone my story at that time because of the fear of being stigmatised or ridiculed. That was what prompted me to make a movie about my experience 23 years later. I want victims to have the courage to speak out. The incident happened at Oke Bola in Ado Ekiti.

“Meanwhile, I had another bad experience with a guy some years back. We were in a long-distance relationship but he came to Nigeria after a while. I had gone to see my mum in Ondo State and he was in Akure (the state capital) at the time. We spent some time together and when it was getting late, I asked him to drop me at the park. However, he cajoled me and we stayed back in his house.

He tried to have sex with me and when I refused, he slapped me very hard. I told him it was the time of my menstrual cycle. But, he insisted that he wanted to confirm. He later confirmed and apologised. I did not sleep till 5am when I left his house the next day. This happened in 2006 or 2008. I have been more careful since then.”

The actress who urged victims to speak out regardless of when the incident happened also said she wished she met her rapist before he died. She added, “When I told my rape story on social media, I found out that the guy had died. I was told he was killed during a robbery. I was hoping to meet him and I would have paid him back for what he did to me.

It should be a very gentle and peaceful evacuation because we do not want anybody to take advantage of the shutdown.

“We want them to take responsibility of their personnel, remove them gently. If you have IOCs that operate flow stations, take the remaining days and time and shutdown them down gently by yourself.
