2022 Commonwealth Games: Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, receive $5,000, $3,000 bonuses from Sports Ministry

The Nigerian Youth and Sports ministry has paid the fourth set of Team Nigeria medallists and their coaches at the 2022 Commonwealth for their heroics in Birmingham.

Athletes who won gold medals received $5,000, silver medallist received $3,000, while bronze medallists got $2,000. Athletes who represented Nigeria in the 4 x100 relay received $15,000 for the team, according to the Youth and Sports ministry.

Amongst those who got rewarded are Women’s 100m Hurdles Champion, Tobi Amusan, 200m Silver medallist and long jump winner, Ese Brume among others.

The ministry also revealed that the Coaches and officials also got rewarded for their roles in Team Nigeria’s success. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare also ensured that three weeks camping allowance was paid to all athletes.

The reward comes after The Ministry, last week, splashed $25,000 on Team Nigeria athletes who won the first set of medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham during a ceremony held at the Hilton Garden in Birmingham.

A 4-year-old biologically female child in Canada has decided to identify as a boy, and the child’s transgender reveal party during a pride parade in Vancouver has sparked a debate on social media.

Charlie Danger Lloyd’s mother said her child has been expressing he is a boy since he was ‘very young.’

The mum claims her child would repeatedly tells the family “I’m a boy!” and that “he” was “growing to look just like daddy” when he was as young as two years old.

Charlie is seen revealing his new gender at the Vancouver Pride Parade by firing off a confetti cannon filled with blue smoke with the help of his grandmother.

Online critics called the gender reveal “child abuse” and “sickening.”

Some went as far as to demand that Charlie’s mom be jailed. But Charlie’s mum, Alaina Bourrel, insists she is doing what she feels is best for Charlie. She added that his confidence and happiness have shot sky-high following a simple wardrobe change and haircut.

Bourrel told the South West News Service:

“We are four months since he began his social transition now. “He is still a normal kid that does completely normal little kid things like play with Lego, uses his creativity and learns to ride his bike. “His choices were not questioned and he was congratulated and everyone began using new pronouns. We are so lucky to have the circle that we do.”

A British soldier has died less than a month after his girlfriend, who was also a soldier, was found hanged at the Army barracks where she worked.

Sophie Madden, 23, was found dead at the Overhill Training Centre at St Martin’s Plain Camp, near Folkestone, UK on June 10 and on July 19, the body of Ross Burnside, who was in his 20s, was discovered in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.According to a Mirror UK report, the couple met while serving together in 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and at the time of his death, Burnside had moved on to work for the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery.

Reacting to the sad news, Army campaign group, Veterans Against Suicide, said the deaths were ‘preventable’ tragedies.An inquest into Sophie’s death has been carried out. Her death is not being treated as suspicious, according to Kent Police.

An Army spokesperson from the UK Ministry of Defence said: ‘It is with sadness that we can confirm the death of Bombardier Ross Burnside.‘Our thoughts are with Bdr Burnside’s family and friends at this sad time.’

Man collapses after discovering that his wife is his ‘Landlord’

A Zambian man identified as Martin Stampa reportedly collapsed after discovering his wife is his “landlord.” Local news platforms reported that Stampa lived in the house for 15 years, and was paying 3500 kwacha every month. It was also gathered that his wife was the one who always took the rent to his “landlord.”

However an altercation ensued after the lady identified as Lushomo discovered that her husband was having an extramarital affair.

Martin reportedly told his wife that he got a side chick because he wanted someone who was intelligent and engages in smart conversations. This riled Lushomo, who ended up spilling the beans and telling Martin that he’s not intelligent enough as he has been paying her a monthly rent because the house they live in belongs to her.

On seeing the house’s title deeds, Martin lost consciousness and collapsed. People had to drench him with bucketfuls of water to wake him up.

Men of the Lagos State Police Command have gunned down two robbery suspects allegedly terrorising residents of Apapa, Ajegunle, and their environs.Our correspondent gathered that on August 4, the hoodlums invaded a community and dispossessed some residents.

A closed circuit television clip of the operation posted on Twitter by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, showed the gang ransacking a shop while they held one person at gunpoint.

Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the police trailed the hoodlums to their hideout at Ajegunle, where a gun battle ensued.

He said, “Daredevil robbers engaged operatives of the Area B Command, Apapa, of the Lagos State Police Command in a gun duel in a bid to escape arrest.

The robbers, however, fell to the superior firepower of the police operatives. The robbers, Sodiq, aka Foreigner, recently released from prison, and Habeeb, aka Kiki, who have both been wanted for terrorising Ajegunle and its environs, were trailed to their hideout in Ajegunle, where they met their Waterloo.

“One Beretta pistol, one locally-made revolver pistol with four rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and one expended shell of ammunition were recovered from the robbers.

“The Lagos State Police Command urges youths, in particular, to desist from crimes, as the long arm of the law will always catch up with criminals no matter how long it takes.”Commenting on the video clip, the PPRO said,

“The importance of CCTV can never be overemphasised; great relief for the people of Apapa. We will not relent. See something? Say something.”

Gunmen have kidnapped a 4-year-old boy, Oluwadarasimi while his father, Boluwaji Omojola, managed to escape with injuries in Oye Local Government area of Ekiti

The traditional ruler of the community, Owajumu of Omu-Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Ogundeyi, confirmed the incident on Saturday, August 6.

Ogundeyi said the incident happened on Itaji/Ijelu-Ekiti Road at about 6.00 p.m on Friday, August 5, 2022.

The boy was returning from Ayede-Ekiti with his father, Boluwaji Omojola, who managed to escape after sustaining a severe cutlass injury from the abductors; he is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital,” the monarch said.

Ogundeyi said that security operatives and local hunters had since been mobilised to go after the kidnappers to rescue the boy. State Commandant, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Brig.-Gen., Joe Komolafe (rtd), who confirmed the incident, said;

“The incident happened yesterday Friday evening. My men and other security agents are in the bush looking for the kidnappers and to rescue the boy.” he added.
