Hong Kong police confirm involvement of six secondary school kids in plot to build ‘powerful’ bomb

The Hong Kong police on Tuesday confirmed that six secondary school children were involved in an alleged attempt to manufacture a powerful explosive in the province, and are currently facing terror charges.

According to the police, five males and four females aged between 15 and 39 were arrested Monday on suspicions of “conspiracy to use explosives for terrorist activities.

This comes days after a 50-year-old man took his own life after stabbing a police officer in what authorities said was a “lone wolf” attack.

Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent, Steve Li, from the city’s new national security unit, said Monday’s operation was against gangsters, who tried to manufacture TATP, a high-powered explosive, inside a homemade laboratory situated inside a hostel.

The police said the nine people belonged to a pro-independence group that called itself “Returning Valiant”.

Those arrested included six teenage students and three adults who worked at a local university, a secondary school, and as a driver.

Li said the suspects were planning to attack public facilities including a cross-harbour tunnel, the railway network, and courtrooms to “maximise damage to society”.

Ripples Nigeria learnt that anti-government movements went out of hand in 2019, during massive and often violent pro-democracy protests, which were stamped out with arrests and new national security law.

Although stability has been widely enforced, Hong Kong remains a deeply polarised city where many residents still live under Beijing’s rule.

Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday also said it seized various items from the group, including a small number of explosives, raw materials to produce TATP, air guns, mobile phones, SIM cards, an operating manual on how to plant bombs, and plans to leave the city.

Also, the police said the group was found with about HK$90,000 ($11,585) in cash and froze around HK$600,000 in related bank accounts.

Police have made multiple arrests in the last two years for alleged bomb plots, although no major attack has been carried out successfully.

In April, a 29-year-old man was jailed for 12-years for manufacturing a kilogram of TATP.

Actress Bimpe Oyebade accuses Yomi Fabiyi of frustrating her because she rejected his s3xual advances

Nollywood actress, Bimpe Oyebade has alleged that actor, Yomi Fabiyi has made sexual advances towards her in recent times, but that she has continued to turn him down.

According to Oyebade, Fabiyi has vowed to frustrate her efforts in the movie industry because she turned down his offers. The actress stated that the actor often makes snide remarks about her, both verbally and in his text on social media.

Oyebade explained this to a fan in the comment section of an Instagram post that was condemning the actor’s new controversial movie, Oko Iyabo.

In the post shared on Tuesday morning, the actress asked how the actor could theme his movie around Baba Ijesha’s ongoing sexual assault trial and a follower responded, pointing out that Yomi used to shade Bimpe “almost everyday on his page”.

Responding, Bimpe explained why he subjected her to abuse.

“The major reason is because I didn’t make myself available for his sexual needs despite how much he tried,” Bimpe wrote.

On Monday, July 5, the actor and movie producer, Yomi Fabiyi was called out and criticized by many Nigerians for releasing a satirical movie titled, Óko Iyabo’.

TAMPAN summons Yomi Fabiyi over ‘Oko Iyabo’, as movie draws more criticisms

The Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has cautioned Nollywood actor and producer, Yomi Fabiyi over his recently released controversial movie ‘Oko Iyabo’.

On Monday, July 5, Fabiyi shared excerpts from the new movie on his Instagram and YouTube page.

The movie seems based on the travails of alleged pedophile, Baba Ijesha, who was arrested and arraigned in court for allegedly sexually harassing the ward of comedienne, Princess.

However, since the release of the excerpt, many Nigerians, especially other entertainers have continued to criticise Fabiyi and the new movie.

The film, ‘Oko Iyabo’ portrays Princess’s underaged foster daughter as Baba Ijesha’s lover.

It also depicts Baba Ijesha as a victim of a setup orchestrated by Princess.

The characters in the film take on the names of individuals involved in the case including actress, Iyabo Ojo whom the story apparently centers around.

Fans and celebrities, including the movie committee, TAMPAN have now accused the actor of making a movie about Baba Ijesha’s rape saga with real names of those involved in the case, and also reportedly making it look like the minor was having an affair with Baba Ijesha who is now facing trial for alleged child molestation and sexual abuse.

TAMPAN’s Director of Research and Documentation, Yemi Amodu said Fabiyi was invited because the movie has sparked off another round of dissension between the group and the public.

TAMPAN further said that the controversy the subject matter of the movie has generated is against its ethics and virtue.

Members of the public have been asked to exercise patience as ”justice will be delivered.”

The statement published on Monday, July 5;

“The TAMPAN Committee on Ethics, Conflict and Resolution wishes to inform the general public that the association has summoned Mr. Yomi Fabiyi who is the Producer/Director of the controversial film titled “OKO IYABO” to appear before it on Thursday 11th July 2021.

“This invitation becomes very necessary because of the controversy that the subject matter of his film has generated which is against our ethic and virtue.

Despite that, we realize that the film has sparked off another round of dissension between TAMPAN and the public; this is unacceptable to us and unsuitable to what we represent.

“We hereby implore the general public and the parties concerned to please exercise patience as our eminent association is on top of this issue and will certainly ensure fairness and justice.”

OUR MCM FOR TODAY IS JADEN SMITH

Jaden Smith was born July 8, 1998 in Malibu, California, the son of actors Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith. He has an older half-brother, Trey Smith (born 1992) and a younger sister, Willow Smith (born 2000). Smith attended New Village Leadership Academy before being homeschooled by his parents. Growing up, Smith’s celebrity status due to acting in films such as The Pursuit of Happyness and his parents both being acclaimed actors led to him being isolated from having a normal childhood, something he has spoken on at length. He took up skateboarding.

Smith and his siblings were youth ambassadors for Project Zambi, which provides assistance in conjunction with Hasbro for Zambian children orphaned by AIDS.

Smith made his major role debut in the 2006 film The Pursuit of Happyness as Christopher, the son of Chris Gardner, Will Smith’s character. For his role, Smith won the award for Breakthrough Performance at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards. Smith next appeared as Jacob in the 2008 Scott Derrickson science fiction film, The Day the Earth Stood Still, a remake of the 1951 classic of the same name.

In 2010, along with Jackie Chan, Smith starred in The Karate Kid, a remake of the 1984 film. In May 2013, Will Smith and Jaden starred together, playing father and son, in After Earth. In 2014, it was announced that Smith will return for the sequel Karate Kid 2 with Jackie Chan. The movie will be directed by Breck Eisner, produced by James Lassiter and Will Smith and written by Zak Penn.

In April 2014, Smith was cast in the film The Good Lord Bird, which is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by James McBride. Smith plays Henry Shackleford, a young slave living in Kansas Territory in 1857 who encounters abolitionist John Brown.

Smith took a break from acting following the release of his mixtape, Cool Tape Vol. 2 to focus on music, returning to act in Netflix original, The Get Down in 2017. Smith also had a voice acting role in Neo Yokio and a role in Nashville as himself. Commenting on his break from acting, he said “The kinds of roles I was being offered weren’t exactly what I was looking for, nothing felt really necessary that I needed to be in until this came along”. Smith has returned to acting in films with the announcement of a film based on skateboarding. On 21 June 2018, Crystal Moselle’s Skate Kitchen released its first official trailer showcasing Smith as the main character. The film was officially released on August 10, 2018 after being showcased at Sundance in Winter 2017. He will next star in Life in a Year alongside Cara Delevingne.

Smith performing in 2015
In 2010, Smith rapped alongside Canadian singer Justin Bieber in the song “Never Say Never.” The song peaked at 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified 5× Platinum in the US.

On October 1, 2012, Jaden released his debut mixtape, The Cool Cafe. Smith released the sequel to The Cool Cafe on November 8, 2014, titled CTV2.

Smith started work on his debut studio album in 2014, a process that took three years. Smith announced in December 2016 that his debut studio album would be titled Syre. The lead single from Syre, “Fallen” was released on December 5, 2016, three more singles were released, “Batman” and “Watch Me” on July 14, 2017 and “Falcon” on November 16. Syre was released on November 17, 2017 and debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard 200. “Icon” was released as a single on the same day and reached no. 3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.

Smith later announced that his next project following Syre would be titled Erys on December 14, 2017. Another project named Syre: The Electric Album was later teased via Twitter. Leading up to the release of the project, Smith released the single “Ghost” featuring Christian Rich. On July 8, 2018, Smith released the project exclusively on Instagram on his 20th birthday. The project was later released four days later to streaming platforms. Syre: The Electric Album is a guitar-centric rework of Smith’s studio album Syre and is influenced by Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Less than a year later, on July 5, 2019, Smith released his second studio album, Erys, and debuted at number 12 on the US Billboard 200.

On July 30, 2018, Smith was announced as an opener during J. Cole’s KOD Tour alongside Young Thug and EarthGang and on August 2, performed for the first time at Lollapalooza.[53] One of Smith’s influences, Kid Cudi, stated that he would like to make an album with Smith, which Smith supported, saying that he would like to in the future during an interview on August 21, 2018.

On July 24, 2020, Smith released the single “Cabin Fever”, from his third album CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3, which he described is a completion of the trilogy of the previous Cool tapes and “also kinda completing the trilogies of Syre and Erys at the same time”. The album includes a collaboration with Smith’s friend and previous collaborator Justin Bieber, on the song “Falling for You”. On 21 June 2021, Jaden released the single “BYE”.

Jaden explained that CTV3 is a prequel to SYRE while ERYS is a sequel to SYRE.

Smith’s influences include Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Kurt Cobain and Tycho. Smith also considers his father, Will Smith, as an inspiration saying “He started in music and transitioned to movies. I started with movies, and then I transitioned into making music – I look at him and use it as a blueprint of how good of a person he is, but not necessarily the success that he reached.”

GQ described Smith as “in a league of his own” in terms of fashion and a “superstar who has taken fashion to an entirely different level”. Smith has called Tyler the Creator, Batman and Poseidon his icons when it comes to fashion. Smith said that Tyler the Creator introduced him to the brand Supreme. Batman’s dark, gothic scenery has influenced the clothing he has created through his brand MSFTSrep and his personal clothing style, wearing Batman protective armor to Kanye West’s and Kim Kardashian’s wedding and his prom. MSFTSrep’s range includes hoodies, T-shirt, trousers and vests. In May 2013 Smith collaborated with a Korean designer, Choi Bum Suk, to create a pop-up store in which customers can buy clothes with their collaborated logos.

Smith raised controversy in 2016 after modelling in a womenswear campaign for Louis Vuitton wearing a skirt. Explaining his choice to wear a skirt, Smith said he was attempting to combat bullying, saying “In five years, when a kid goes to school wearing a skirt, he won’t get beat up and kids won’t get mad at him”. Smith continued to wear womenswear throughout the rest of 2016. Smith was the first male model to model women’s wear for Louis Vuitton. Smith created a denim-line with fashion brand G-Star in 2018.

Smith is a partner in spring water company Just Water starting when he was just twelve years old. Just Water is attempting to create a water filtration system that’s cheap and can be used in poorer areas and nations and wants to later help with water infrastructure and creating more environmentally friendly construction methods by producing its own drywall. On August 27, 2018, Just Water launched officially in the UK.

Smith’s father, Will, revealed that his son sought an emancipation ruling, with the consent of his parents, as a present for his 15th birthday. Will revealed to the media that Smith’s primary motivation is the establishment of his own residence and also explained that his children are not subject to strict parenting conduct: “We generally don’t believe in punishment. From the time Jaden was five or six we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life.” However, Smith and his father appeared together on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on May 15, 2013 and Smith said:

The thing that people don’t get is everything at his house is free. So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I’m going to be there for 20, 30 more years. He [Will Smith] says that as soon as I have a movie that’s bigger than one of his movies I can get my own house.

In June 2017, Smith moved out of his parents’ house into a $4 million home in Hidden Hills.

Smith is an avid “conspiracy theorist” and his statements often generate controversy. This includes theories about the Illuminati, and tweets about chemtrails.

In 2013, Smith raised controversy when he criticized traditional education and advised people to drop out of school. Talking about teenagers who go to public school, Smith said “kids who go to normal school are so teenagery, so angsty.”

Smith dated Sarah Snyder from 2015 to 2017. The two broke up after “growing apart” amid cheating rumors. Snyder inspired numerous songs on Smith’s debut album, Syre.

Smith is a vegetarian. He started a mobile restaurant providing free vegan dinners for the homeless (but where others pay when they dine). His vegan lifestyle caused his parents to stage an intervention, following a rapid decline in health that led to his skin turning gray. He was later diagnosed with lactose intolerance and celiac disease. His declining health, however, resulted in Smith returning to vegetarianism.

In November 2018, Smith announced that he was in a relationship with rapper Tyler, the Creator, although Tyler himself has denied these claims.

Three officers injured in fresh attack on Akwa Ibom police station

Unknown gunmen on Saturday night injured three police officers during an attack on the divisional police headquarters in Udung Uko local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

Eyewitnesses told journalists on Sunday the gunmen stormed the police station in a Toyota Sienna car and opened fire on police officers on duty.

The attack is the fourth on Akwa Ibom police facilities in the last two months.

The spokesman of the state police command, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the attack.

He, however, said no life was lost in the incident.

He said: “An attempt was made at our facility in Udung Uko local government area of Akwa Ibom State but our men repelled that attack. There was no casualty. The vigilance of our men on duty led to the foiling of the attack.

“Armed men came into the station in a Toyota Sienna car with an unknown number and opened fire. Our men replied them and they zoom off. The place has been fortified and investigation is ongoing.”

Why we didn’t show explicit contents in the house – BBNaija host, Ebuka

Big Brother Naija host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has revealed why a lot of steamy and intimate moments that occurred in the house were not shown on live TV.

According to the 5-time host, while a lot played out in the BBNaija house, some scenes have to be censored due to the regulations of the National Broadcasting Commission, (NBC).

Ebuka made this known in an interview with Beat FM while reacting to claims by fans that viewers are shown what the organisers want them to see.

He also refuted insinuations that he had any grouse against Erica.

I like Erica; I really like Erica, which is also funny because people thought that I hated her. She gave us good content; she and Kiddwaya.

“First things first, we live in a country that has regulations. We all know about the NBC; there are certain things we can never show whether we like it or not. I always say that the show would be a different show if it was not a Nigerian show or if it was not in Nigeria because of the kind of things that we cannot show. Those things are not in our call; it is just legal issues.

“Secondly, this talk about what we showed about Kiddwaya and Erica; we actually did not show anything about them if anybody remembers. Nothing was shown about them. We did not show anything. In fact, it was even Ka3na and Praise that people saw under the sheets.

A lot of these things happened under the sheets; so, we do not know what is happening. We are not going to send a ninja to remove the sheet so that we can get a good shot.

People say we showed some things that made Erica and Kiddwaya look bad and I ask how? How did we make them look bad? Everything that has been revealed on the reunion show is actually on air. It just so happened that people decided to assume what they assumed,” he said.

CARDI B CLAPS BACK AT REPORTER WHO CLAIMS SPRINTER SHA’CARRI RICHARDSON MAY USE STEROIDS DUE TO LENGTH OF HAIR, NAILS.

Cardi B is not here for the Sha’Carri Richardson slander.

Cardi came to the suspended sprinter’s defense on Saturday (July 3), after Australian journalist, Claire Lehman, jumped out the window with the theory Richardson may be on steroids. The sprinter made headlines after she was suspended by the United States Anti-Doping Association on Friday (June 2), for testing positive for marijuana, following her much-publicized win at the Olympic trials last month. Lehmann claims Richardson’s long hair and nails prove she may be on performance enhancing drugs, too. An assumption that turned Lehmann into a trending topic on Twitter. Cardi had time for a response. “B I O T I N…….You needs for your thin ass hair,” the “Up” rapper responded to Lehmann’s wild claims, referring to the vitamin B supplement.

Cardi also addressed the topic on Instagram. “This is how I feel about the Sha’Carri situation, right. I feel like we cannot turn time around,” Bardi told her fans. “I feel like the Olympics are going to try and be so hard on her ’cause this has been a big situation. However, that doesn’t take away [from the fact] that she’s the most talked about athlete. Three years from now, she’s going to be the No. 1 most-anticipated to go to the Olympics.”

Lehmann’s claims are circumstantial at best. “Not sure whether the nails are real or fake, but in case you didn’t know very strong nails & hair can be a side effect of steroid use,” she tweeted, clearly unfamiliar with the use of hair extensions and press-on nails. “Look, people in track know who is and who isn’t on the roids. Just because they couldn’t ping her on it doesn’t mean they don’t know.”

Bucks beat Hawks, to face Phoenix in NBA Finals.

Khris Middleton scored 32 points to power the Milwaukee Bucks into the NBA Finals on Saturday with a series-clinching 118-107 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The third-seeded Bucks beat the host Hawks in the best-of-seven series 4-2 to book their first appearance in the league championship since 1974.

“As a little kid everybody wanted to be part of this chance to go to the finals. This is amazing,” said Bucks guard Jrue Holiday.

Milwaukee will face the Western Conference champion Phoenix Suns in the finals which begin on Tuesday.

The Bucks won despite the absence of two-time league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who sat out with a injured left knee. The 26-year-old Greek forward hyperextended the knee when he landed awkwardly in game four of the series.

The Hawks got their top player Trae Young back after he missed the previous two games with a bruised foot. But Young struggled to score in game six, shooting just four-of-17, missing all six of his three point attempts and finishing with just 14 points.

Holiday stepped up for the second straight game to help fill Milwaukee’s offensive void with Antetokounmpo out. Holiday flirted with a triple double, finishing with 27 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Brook Lopez, who was the star of Thursday’s game five win with 33 points, delivered 13 points on Saturday for the Bucks.

The young Hawks, who last made it to the finals 60 years ago when they were based in St. Louis, were trying to force a seventh game.
Cam Reddish came off the bench to score a team high 21 points, Bogdan Bogdanovic had 20 points and John Collins finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Middleton shot 10-of-22 from the field and made all eight of his free throws as he scored 16 straight points for the Bucks in the second half.

“I just tried to shoot and be confident, just play the right way,” Middleton said.

The Bucks started quickly, jumping out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter after a Lopez dunk. The Hawks clawed their way back into it in the second quarter to trail by just four, 47-43, at the half.

Milwaukee broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Hawks 44-29 as Middleton and Holiday took charge of the offence.
Lopez made an alley-oop dunk with 1:29 to go in the fourth to make it 113-110 and PJ Tucker nailed a clutch 23-foot three pointer with 62 seconds remaining to stretch the lead to 10 points and help seal the win.

The second seeded Suns will have home court advantage in the finals based on having a better record in the regular season.

Phoenix edged the Bucks in two games during the regular season, 128-127 in overtime in Milwaukee and 125-124 in Arizona.

They have met just once before in the postseason, back in 1978 when the Bucks won 2-0 in a best-of-three first round series.

How nurse pierced newborn baby’s eye to avenge alleged carryover the mother gave her in school

Asma’u Ahmad Tijjani has narrated how a nursing staff of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, Folashade Adesina, injured her newborn baby over a carryover allegation.

Asma’u alleged that the nurse used injection needle to pierce the eye of her baby few minutes after she was born in order to avenge a carryover she got at the Sokoto Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where she worked as a non-academic staff.

She recalled that one week to her expected date of delivery, the nurse met her in her office and said she wanted to have a private discussion with her.

“Immediately we came out from my office, she started asking some questions. She wanted to know when I would go to the hospital and my expected date of delivery, as well as my names in full.

“This really surprised me because that was the first time I was having one-on-one discussion with her, so I refused to reveal all these information to her.

“She then told me that she was in possession of my medical record and knew everything about me and only wanted to help.

“When my pregnancy was due for delivery and I was taken to the labour room, precisely on the 15th of June, the same woman came and stood by my bed, speaking Yoruba language to the nurse that was attending to me. This made me very uncomfortable because I did not know her mission. So I complained to my nurse, who pleaded with her to leave the place,” she said.

She continued, “Immediately after my delivery, my nurse started preaching to me to always try to be kind to the people I deal with, especially in my workplace. She said the nurse I complained about told her that I gave her a carryover.

I was shocked to hear this because I am not a teaching staff of the university and have no business with students’ scripts. So how could I give her a carryover?

“When my husband came, the same woman came and collected my baby, saying she was taking her to him. I asked one of the doctors present at the time to follow her, but she declined.

“After some minutes, she brought the baby back, and when I received her, I noticed some blood coming out from her eyes, so I started crying and shouting; and before you knew it, the labour room was filled with hospital staff.”

She also said, “When they realised what happened, they all rushed out to look for that nurse, but she was nowhere to be found and her phone was switched off.

The baby was taken to the eye section of the hospital for examination, where it was confirmed that both her eyes were pricked, but the object did not penetrate the two lenses.

“The nurse, however, came the following morning with a basket of cooked food, which I rejected, on the ground of what she did to my baby.

“My relatives who were with me at the time started beating her before she was rescued by her colleagues.”

Mrs Tijjani appealed to the hospital authorities, the police and the state government to ensure justice for her baby?

Reacting to the matter, the hospital authority issued a statement acknowledging the receipt of a complaint letter from the nursing mother.

The statement, which was signed by Mansur Wadata, the principal information officer of the hospital, reads, “The hospital received a complaint letter from the mother of a newborn baby girl delivered at the hospital, alleging that a nursing officer caused injury to the eyes of her baby.

The hospital management is investigating the case, with a view to authenticating the claim.

“We are assuring the general public that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against whoever is found wanting, in accordance with civil service rules and condition of service of the hospital.

“The hospital is ever ready to work with relevant authorities to carry out investigation to ensure that those involved are made to face the full wrath of the law.

“The general public is hereby reassured that the hospital will not derail from its core values for excellent performance – transparency, professionalism, respect for the rights of its clients, and discipline.

While the hospital frowns at any act of indiscipline by any of its staff, it equally assures the general public of its commitment towards ensuring strict discipline against unethical and unprofessional conducts.

“To this end, the management of the hospital calls for calm from its clients (patients) and the general public as it will continue to ensure the safety of patients and their relatives.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Sokoto State police command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said the suspect was under detention as investigation was ongoing.

Daily Trust Saturday learnt that the suspect was remanded in the Correctional Centre following her arraignment by the police before the Sokoto Magistrate’s Court.
