French interior minister apologizes for ‘bad management’ at UCL final.

French interior minister Gerald Darmanin has apologised to “everyone who suffered from bad management” at the 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League final match in Paris.

However, the 39-year-old, who had previously made outlandish claims about the number of counterfeit tickets in circulation at the Stade de France, stopped short of saying sorry to the Liverpool fans.

He had blamed them for the problems on the night of the club’s defeat to Real Madrid.

“Should the Stade de France have been better managed? The answer is `yes’,” he said, following the incidence of supporters being locked out and then tear-gassed after serious congestion problems developed.

“Am I partly responsible? The answer is `yes’. Of course, I readily apologise to everyone who suffered from this bad management of the event.”

After the match, supporters complained of being robbed by local gangs, with the police offering no protection.

The police had earlier employed heavy-handed methods in an attempt to deal with the growing crowd issue.

Darmanin said they had learned from that and France’s two recent UEFA Nations League matches and the Top 14 rugby final at the stadium all passed off without any major incident.

“It profoundly changed the organisation of the police headquarters,” he added.

“I changed the organisation to fight against delinquency because, if there was something that went wrong at the Stade de France, it was the fight against delinquency.”

Earlier this month the interior minister apologised to a French Senate committee hearing for “the disproportionate use of tear gas”.

But his claims that 35,000 and 40,000 supporters without tickets or fake tickets were present around the Stade de France were debunked by a UEFA official.

The official had said UEFA’s count of counterfeits was closer to 2,600.

Chelsea legend, Petr Čech leaves the club as he steps down as technical advisor amid ‘disagreement with new owner’.

Chelsea legend, Petr Cech will leave his role as Technical and Performance Advisor at the club on June 30.

Cech is the latest to leave the club following the Todd Boehly-Clearlake takeover after the departures of chairman Bruce Buck and director Marina Granovskaia.

Cech said: “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years. With the club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”

Todd Boehly, chairman and co-controlling owner, said: “Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best.”

Cech was appointed three years ago to provide advice and guidance on all football and performance matters at Chelsea having played 333 times for the club.

However, according to The Telegraph, part of Cech’s decision to leave his role at Chelsea was based on how much his influence had been diluted under the new ownership.

He reportedly disagreed with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly over his decision to loan Romelu Lukaku back to Inter prior to leaving.

Cech had acted as a go-between for Chelsea managers and director Marina Granovskaia, playing an instrumental role in a number of transfer and football decisions, notably recommending the signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

With Granovskaia’s departure last week, Boehly has taken on the role of ‘interim sporting director’, with both the American and manager Thomas Tuchel now in charge of transfer decisions with Cech sidelined.

Big Brother Africa star, Elikem shares his experience from being married to ‘rich’ Pokello.

Big Brother Africa star, Elikem Kumordzie has shared his experience from being married to a rich co-reality show star, Pokello Nare.

The fashion designer disclosed that he was hurt when people judged him saying he had married Pokello because of her wealth.

He told ZionFelix;

Sometimes people would say Elikem is a gold digger and he is only there for the money, and sometimes it hit me a little bit. That is why I wanted to come to Ghana on my ground, so we work from the bottom up. I wasn’t so much insecure, it was more of wanting to do my own thing.

Elikem also disclosed that a misunderstanding on which country they were going to settle in, added to the issues he had in his marriage with Pokello. He revealed that he tried to move to Zimbabwe but it did not work out for him.

He said;

There was a misunderstanding on where we were going to live. I tried to move to Zimbabwe for a bit. I dismantled my machine into pieces and traveled with it in suitcases. I had to start my business over there, I had a few customers. I was there for 2 to 3 months, and it wasn’t going so well.

After his business failed to takeoff, Elikem relocated back to Ghana. He said Pokello was not comfortable with the move.

He added;

I tried coming back to Ghana, but for some reason, Zimbabwe was more comfortable for Pokello. Everybody knows she was good from the start, and I was the one who was rather working to make ends meet more. She and her family were quite wealthy, and I was the guy who was coming out of nowhere.

Elikem was married to Zimbabwean socialite Pokello Nare in 2015 after they met at Big Brother Africa. The couple however divorced in 2017 a few months after welcoming their first son Tristan.

Stella Damasus urges Nigerians to support Nollywood, despite challenges

Veteran actress, Stella Damasus in a video published on her Instagram platform called upon Nigerians to support the movie industry despite numerous underlying issues.

The actress stated that Nigerians should understand that so much work goes into movie production, hence, people should engage in constructive criticism whenever they want to dissect a Nigerian movie on social media.

Damasus mentioned further that no one intentionally produces a ‘bad movie’, therefore, Nigerians should not condemn productions without taking time to see the message in the movies.

“So I’ve gone online a couple of times and I hear people criticizing the Nigerian movie industry, criticizing our films and condemning it,” Damasus said in the Instagram post.

“Not even constructive criticisms but really negative things and it hurts me because they think it is easy to get a bunch of people together, get crew, get cast, get them to different locations, shoot morning to morning, suffer.

“I don’t think anyone wants to waste time and money and intentionally make a bad film. We do our best with the little we have. We try, we push and that’s why we still have a thriving industry today, because of the hard work.”

Sadio Mane

‘We had a lot of talks and I felt the great interest of this big club from the start. So there was no doubt in my mind right from the start.

‘This is the right time for this challenge. I want to achieve a lot with this club.’

The Senegal star, who arrived at Anfield from Southampton in 2016 for £34m, played his last match for the Reds in the Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

In a farewell interview with Liverpool, Mane added: ‘Obviously it is strange – really, really strange – to no longer be a Liverpool player after six years spent at Anfield.

‘But of course I had a great time, an unbelievable time, and since my first day I really, really enjoyed training, playing, at Anfield especially and in front of these amazing supporters. Now it’s come to the end, so what can you say?

‘I think whoever is leaving Liverpool, with those supporters you will always miss them because so far [they are] the best in the world and I have always said it.

‘I would love one day to come back to Anfield to say hi to them and of course to watch Liverpool playing because for me, I am going to be Liverpool’s No.1 fan – after the supporters!’.

When asked about the prospect of returning to Anfield in the Champions League, he said: ‘You know the Champions League and how the draw always goes on, it can happen for sure and if it happens it happens.

‘It is football and of course I have to come and I have to play. But like I said, Liverpool is Liverpool and we will see. We will see what is going to happen.’

Shooting incident: The biggest lie of 2022 is when I heard Burna Boy tried to talk to another man’s woman. After God, Fear woman – DJ Obi

DJ Obi has described claims that Burna Boy made passes at a married woman as the ”Biggest lie of 2022.”

BurnaBoy has been in the news after his security escorts were accused of firing shots at two persons while at a nightclub in Lagos on June 8.

It was reported that the singer had made passes at a lady and when he was told that she was with her man, he allegedly continued making passes at her, causing her husband to caution him. Things took a different turn when a fight broke out between the married man and his friends and Burna Boy’s security details.

The married woman has since come out to confirm this claim. BurnaBoy is yet to make a statement on this matter.

DJ Obi in a post shared on his IG page this morning, which he has since deleted, disagreed that BurnaBoy could have hit on a married woman. He said for him to have done that, the woman must have been the sexiest woman in the world. He said he went digging to see an image of the woman and in his word ”BOYYYYYY stop playing”

”I don wake this morning!

P/s: Why do you have sooooo many snaps of him before he “tried” to talk to you 3 times???

When I heard this story of Odogwu having such high interest in this person, I just had to go search for myself to see the woman because she must be the sexiest female on the planet. THREE TIMES?!! I said wow, Unicorns do exists. This babe must be hotter than steff. So I went digging. BOYYYYYY stop playing.

FYI : Burna security is so highly trained, the only reason a gun would have come out is if there was a threat to his life or theirs. So that leads me to ask, Who threw the first bottle?? And why?

I end by saying AFTER GOD! Fear woman. Stay safe out there my brothers. If you are ever going to come for someone of this caliber, your story has to be air tight. And that’s on LOVE DAMINI.

Disclaimer: this page does not promote violence or gun violence of any kind, most especially violence towards women.

I did not ruin Marilyn Monroe’s dress – Kim Kardashian

Weeks after rumours broke out that Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress has been ruined by Kim Kardashian, the reality TV star has come out to debunk the claims.

The business mogul set tongues wagging when she wore the dress to the 2022 Met Gala in May. She further irked the ire of many after disclosing that she has gone through an extreme weight-loss before fitting into the dress as it could not be altered.

Few weeks after the event, a Marilyn Monroe collector, Scott Fortner, claimed that there was permanent damage done to the dress.

Fortner, who works to authenticate and verify Monroe memorabilia, shared some photographs via his Instagram page to show what appeared to be a stretched and buckled fabric as well as missing crystals on the back of the dress.

Owned by Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, the famous dress was worn by late Hollywood legend, Marilyn Monroe, when she sang for President John F Kennedy on the occasion of his 45th birthday.

During an interview with TODAY Show which aired on Tuesday, the SKIMS founder said she wore the dress for a total of four minutes, after which it was carefully taken off her by handlers.

“I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers, and I put the dress on, on the bottom of the carpet, then went up the stairs. I probably had it on for a total of three minutes, four minutes, and then I changed at the top of the stairs,” she revealed.

When the interviewer asked if the rumours about her damaging the dress are true, she answered, “No”. She also credited Ripley’s for their meticulous care while getting her into and out of the dress.

This corroborates a statement released by Ripley’s on Thursday where it was revealed that the clothes already had notable damage prior to Kim wearing it.

Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s VP of Publishing and Licensing, who accompanied the dress to New York where the Gala happened, also said, “From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.”

President Buhari directs NFF to amend statutes, hold elections in September.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) to immediately commence the process that will lead to elections into its executive committee at the expiration of the current administration in September.

Buhari also directed that the instrument of football administration in the country, the NFF Statutes, be amended to include other stakeholders, who had hitherto been disenfranchised or denied equal representation in the NFF congress.

In a letter addressed to NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, dated June 17, 2022 and signed by Youth and Sports Development Minister, Sunday Dare, Buhari, who reinforced the Federal Government’s support for football development in the country, urged the leadership of the NFF to ensure that the amended statutes reflect the national yearnings, aspirations and peculiarities of Nigeria as a sovereign nation, while aligning with the principles and objectives of football as set by the world soccer governing body, FIFA.

Meanwhile, a former chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe, has appealed to interested persons eyeing the NFF presidency in the September elections to exercise restraint.

About five aspirants, comprising one administrator and former Nigeria internationals, have so far indicated an interest in the NFF top job.

“I think it is rather too early for such declaration to be made by anyone yet. There is the issue of statute that has not been sorted while the NFF Congress will still have to seat and draw out the electoral guidelines as well as announce the election date,” he said.

According to Gara Gombe, “Whatever anyone is doing at this time with regard to the election is hasty and it cannot amount to anything tangible at least for now.”

There are reports that the former Gombe FA chairman has been encouraged by some football stakeholders, including politicians, civil servants, diplomats, and key figures in Corporate Nigeria to declare interest in the NFF top job.

Comedian, Dave Chappelle refuses his alma mater from renaming theater after him following student backlash over ‘anti-gay’ jokes.

US comedian, Dave Chappelle has decided against having his name attached to a new performing arts theater at his old high school, following student backlash to his controversial Netflix comedy special, “The Closer”.

According to the Washington Post,  Chappelle made the announcement at the theater dedication ceremony Monday night, June 20 at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, in Washington D.C.

The event had been delayed since November after students at the school criticized the comedian for The Closer, which featured a number of jokes seen as transphobic and homophobic.

At the dedication ceremony on Monday, June 20, Chappelle spoke about the rift between him and the student body, making it clear he was “hurt” by the backlash.

Chappelle said, “No matter what they say about The Closer, it is still [one of the] most-watched specials on Netflix,” adding that it was a “masterpiece.”

Chappelle described himself as “maybe a once in a lifetime talent.” Speaking to the student backlash, Chappelle said “these kids didn’t understand that they were instruments of artistic oppression.”

He added, “The more you say I can’t say something, the more urgent it is for me to say it.”

Instead of featuring his name, Chappelle said the venue will be called the Theater for Artistic Freedom and Expression.

After the initial Duke Ellington backlash in November, Chappelle returned to the school to discuss the controversy around his special with nearly 600 students. Politico reported at the time that the comedian was met by hostile students, and was accused of endangering trans lives and told that he was handling the storm of criticism like a “child.”

Chappelle is Duke Ellington’s most famous former student and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the school.

He has also brought various actors and comedians to the campus, including Bradley Cooper and Chris Tucker.

Russian-born tennis player Natela Dzalamidze changes nationality to represent Georgia due to the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russian-born tennis player, Natela Dzalamidze has changed her nationality to Georgian to avoid the ban Wimbledon imposed on all Russian players following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

The doubles specialist, ranked No. 43 in the world, is now officially listed as having Georgian nationality on the WTA website and is eligible to compete with doubles partner Aleksandra Kruni? of Serbia when Wimbledon gets underway on June 27, according to CNN.

This comes after Wimbledon announced the ban on all Russian and Belarusian athletes back in April

Some of tennis’ biggest stars, including men’s world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and women’s world No. 6 Aryna Sabalenka, will not be competing at SW19.

In a statement published by The Times, a Wimbledon spokesperson said they were unable to stop Dzalamidze, who competed under the neutral flag at the French Open, from changing her nationality.

“Player nationality, defined as the flag they play under at professional events, is an agreed process that is governed by the Tours and the ITF,” the spokesperson said.

The ban on Russian and Belarusian players has divided the tennis world, and last week, the US Open announced that it would not be following Wimbledon’s example later this year, with players from both countries eligible to compete under a neutral flag.
