Comedienne, Taaooma apologizes after being called out for visiting VP Osinbajo

Nigerian comedienne and skit-maker, Taaooma has tendered an aploogy after being called out for paying a visit to Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

Recall that Taaooma alongside some skit-makers under the aegis of Nigeria Skits Industry Awards (NSIA), led by its promoter, Bimbo Daramola visited Aso Villa on Wednesday, November 3.

Some of the comic actors that were present at the meeting in the Presidential villa, are Josh2Funny, Taaooma, Mr Hyenana and Woli Agba.

Their visit was greeted with backlash from fans who felt they went for selfish reasons. Taaooma and Josh2Funny received a huge portion of the condemnation owing to their popularity.

Activist and social media influencer, Rinu Oduala also condemned the deception surrounding their visit as she noted that they visited the Presidential Villa to promote the skits awards but they made young Nigerians believe that they went to talk about Twitter ban and persistent Police harassment.

Taking to Twitter, Taooma apologized and said that she initially declined the invitation to visit the VP, but later changed her mind.

According to her, she thought it would be a great idea to use the opportunity to talk to Osinbajo about salient issues regarding the youths.

In her words; ”.. I was going to wallow in my “shame” and keep mute. But with the way it’s going, it seems the wound will keep getting deep. The organizer of the “skit awards” needed more publicity for the event, secured a meeting with the VP and invited so many “skit makers”

I also declined at first as many others. But then, at the die minute, I gave it a rethink: what if I pull a Trojan? Gain access to the state house with this “skit awards” thingy and say mymind on hot issues. Unfortunately for us, after passing through many security checks all our

Electronic devices were collected. I couldn’t even go live or record videos. All I did was do what others didn’t want to. And trust me, the VP himself was shocked when I started speaking about those issues as that wasn’t his expectations.

I’m really sorry if I have offended anyone by going that way, but I achieved my aim. I said all I could straight to the VP. The VP’s media team were in charge of photos and videos, I might have fully declined if I knew that I won’t be able to go in with my camera or phone.

The pictures taken after were sent to the “skit awards” pr team. That’s why the photos went out before we got our own hands on it. I started getting tags and some even said I was being “called out”. My plan was to get the video as soon as it’s ready and post it. But I had no choice than to immediately post the available photo and state what happened at the meeting. I hope when the video is ready, everyone will know I’m saying nothing but the truth and my conscience is clear. Once again, I apologize deeply to everyone who felt disappointed.”

Nigeria needs leaders that can unite the country – VP Osinbajo

Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has said only proactive leaders can solve the challenges bedeviling the country.

A statement by the Vice President’s spokesman, Laolu Akande said Osinbajo made the comment on Monday, when he paid a courtesy visit to Abdulwasiu Lawal, Oniru of Iruland, in Lagos.

He said; “Our country needs all the leaders — the best leaders, the most proactive leaders, leaders prepared to bring the country together.

“Lagos is a microcosm of Nigeria. Everybody is here. If things work out well here, things will be okay in the country.

“I am sure your role here is that of someone who brings together communities — not just Yorubas, but everybody.

“And I can see that from your choice of chiefs, you have gone to other parts, and I think this is the attitude of great leaders.

“You should know that you are always in my prayers, because I believe that your role is crucial, not just for the development of this state, but for the whole country.

“Today, you cannot relegate traditional rulers because of the exposure and education of those who occupy that position.”

VP Osinbajo offers scholarship to physically-challenged artist

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has offered a gifted physically challenged artist, Abosede Okeowo, a US online scholarship to enhance her skills.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the presentation was made recently at the palace of Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, the Oore of Otun-Ekiti in Ekiti.

The 27-year-old artist had presented to Osinbajo a pencil portrait of himself during his courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife in 2020.

A team led by Sen. Babafemi Ojudu, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters presented the scholarship to Okeowo on behalf of the Vice President.

Inspite of her limitations, Okeowo focuses on her artistic skills and has gained recognition because of her talent.

Okeowo, an indigene of Otun Ekiti in Ekiti State, had suffered an illness when she was a child which resulted in her current state of health.

A self-taught artist who, driven by passion, nurtured her talent in drawing to her current stage of expertise and is now known for making drawings of many dignitaries.

Okeowo first caught the attention of the vice president when she drew a portrait of his wife, Dolapo.

She yet again enthralled Osinbajo with her skills when she drew and presented a lifelike portrait of him.
