Barely 24 hours after he was announced as the new Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has been decorated by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the State House with his new rank.
The ceremony, which took place at 1 pm, had in attendance National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma; the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; and the immediate past IGP, Usman Alkali.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said on Sunday the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) would not accept forceful takeovers of governments in the sub-region.
Osinbajo stated this during a media briefing after participating at an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Accra, Ghana.
The Vice-President represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the meeting convened by West African leaders to deliberate on the current political crisis in Mali.
He said: “So, I think what is being done is unprecedented; in the years gone by, African Union, then known as Organisation of African Unity, never came down heavily on coup d’etat.
But it is evident now; there is a very strong resolve that the ECOWAS, and indeed the international community, will not accept unconstitutional takeovers of government in the form of coup d’etat and other such unconstitutional means of taking over governments.
“So, it is very evident that there is a very strong resolve which is why we are here today.”
The Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo said on Saturday Nigeria would not disintegrate despite its current challenges.
Nigeria has been torn apart by several challenges, including insecurity in many parts of the country.
Osinbajo, who stated this during his visit to the Emir of Katagum, Umar Farouk, in Bauchi State, said neither religion nor ethnicity would break up the country.
He said: “This is one occasion where you will find that our country is truly a united country and that nothing can separate this country, not ethnicity or religion or class.
“There is nothing that can separate this country. In fact, this is excellent evidence of the fact that this country is united.
“Katagum Emirate is a place where your royal highness has continuously demonstrated the willingness to accommodate people from all parts of the country.
“Every one of us is here because of our personal relationship with you, this is the way leadership should be.”
Nigerian singer, Teniola Apata popularly known as Teni recently paid a courtesy visit to the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
The music star took to her Instagram page to share some adorable photos as the Vice President hosted her at the Aso Rock Villa.
In her post, Teni appreciated him for taking out his time to host her despite his busy schedule and also for giving her encouraging and impactful words.
She captioned the photos:

Facebook has taken down a string of racist and misogynistic posts, memes and comments about US Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris.
The social network removed the content after BBC News alerted it to three groups that regularly hosted hateful material on their pages.
Facebook says it takes down 90% of hate speech before it is flagged.
One media monitoring body described the pages as “dedicated to propagating racist and misogynistic smears”.
However, despite the pages being places where hate-speech is regularly directed towards the vice-president-elect, Facebook said it would not take action on the groups themselves.
Media Matters president Angelo Carusone said: “Facebook’s removal of this content only after it’s been flagged to them by the media confirms that the rules and guidelines they establish are hollow because they put little to no effort into detection and enforcement.
“We are talking about the lowest of low-hanging fruit from a detection perspective.
“And yet, these escaped Facebook’s notice until flagged by a third party.”
The pages included accusations Ms Harris was not a US citizen – because her mother was from India and her father from Jamaica.
Other comments suggested she was not “black enough” for the Democrats.
Another post said she should be “deported to India”.
