Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi aka Tems, met American singers, Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, and Rick Ross at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Tems won her first Grammy award for her contribution to ‘Wait For U’ by Future featuring Drake.
She exchanged greetings with the singers in the video which Blige hailed her saying, “ I love your voice.”
Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, has been nominated for Best Original Score in a motion picture based on her contribution to the “Lift Me Up” soundtrack that was featured on Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Tems was nominated for the award alongside Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson, and Ryan Coogler, who were all significant contributors to the song.
Tems co-wrote the song, which was performed by Rihanna and released on November 4.
The record paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who played a lead role in the franchise before he died in 2020 after a battle with colon cancer.
Reacting to news of her nomination, Tems tweeted: “My God!! this one is too much.”
Singer Tems has recounted how she struggled financially to provide for her family before becoming successful.
In an interview with GQ, Tems revealed that she didn’t become successful overnight.
She stated that year before she released her hit song “Mr Rebel”, she was living alone and struggling financially.
The singer said she was putting pressure on herself to help provide for her family, which was difficult without the security of a stable job.
Tems revealed that at some point, she was broke, helpless, and also stole food. She said;
“I couldn’t take care of anybody. “There were times when I was not just broke – I was broke and hopeless. I used to steal food. I used to go to my aunty’s house just so she could give me food to take home.
“I just felt like, What is the point of me existing right now? You have to remember those times. Because that person does not exist anymore.”
The singer further revealed that before getting into the limelight, she had to change her state of mind.
Tems added;
“The decision I made was to not wallow in sadness. This person that can never be anything. “I didn’t have any self-esteem. I didn’t think I was pretty. I didn’t even think of my voice as anything. I just thought, There are so many people that can sing, I’m not a model, I don’t dance, but whatever chance I have, I’ll take it.
Even if I end up singing under a bridge somewhere, I’ll be the best under-the-bridge singer ever.”
Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly called Tems, has won the Best International Act at the BET Awards 2022.
The 2022 award ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The BET Awards celebrate Black excellence in music, culture and sports.
The talented singer beat Fireboy, Dave from the UK, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Little Simz from the UK, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc from France.
Receiving the award, Tems urged women and girls to continue on their chosen path, adding that the hard work will soon pay off.
She said: “Thank you so much for this, thank you so much. It’s an honour… I mean, this is my first award show that I’m winning something and I just want to use this as an opportunity to speak to every single young, old, whatever, every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home. Where I’m from, things like this don’t happen.”
Tems had earlier at the event won Best Collaboration with Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ featuring Justin Bieber.
Essence was nominated against ‘Every Change I Get’ by DJ Khaled ft Lil baby and Lil Durk; ‘Family Ties’ by Baby Seem ft Kenderick Lamar; ‘Whole Lotta’ by Bia ft Nicki Minaj; ‘Way 2 Sexy’, Drake ft Future and Young Thug, and ‘Kiss me More’ by Doja Cat ft SZA.

Aside from Tems, other Nigerian artistes who have won the Best International Act include 2Baba, D’banj, Ice Prince, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.
Fast-rising Nigerian songstress, Tems, real name, Temilade Openiyi, has stirred reactions online after she shared a cryptic post about pregnancy.
The Try Me hit-maker took to her Instagram story and posted an emoji of a pregnant woman smiley with her face on it.
Fans immediately came up wit theories about how Tems could be trying to announce a new album, or that she’s hinting that she’s expecting a baby.
Wikzid’s name came up the most with regards to the speculation of the singer being pregnant.

American recording artiste, Moneybagg has revealed that he is a big fan of Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems and wants to work with her.
Taking to his verified microblogging site, Twitter on Wednesday, November 3, the American singer real name DeMario DeWayne White applauded Tems’ ‘raw’ vocals before unveiling his intentions.
His tweet reads, “I need to do a song with Tems ASAP. She’s too raw.”
This comes after Tems featured on Wizkid’s banger, ‘Essence’ and on Drake’s ‘Fountain.’
Also, Ripples Nigeria also confirmed that the 26-year-old Afrobeats singer recently received five nominations at the 2021 Soul Train Awards.
Earlier in the year, Moneybagg Yo’s album, ‘A Gangster’s Pain’ was the top selling album in the US, before Drake’s Certified Lover Boy.
Nigerian recording artiste Wizkid, real name Ayodeji Balogun and his Afrobeats colleague, Temilade Openiyi otherwise known as Tems have both bagged five award nominations at the 2021 Soul Train Awards.
The 2021 Soul Train Award ceremony will be coming up on Saturday, November 20.
Wizkid’s and Tems’ nominations come in the Song of The Year, Video of The Year, The Ashford and Simpson songwriter’s award and Best Collaboration for the groundbreaking single, ‘Essence.’
Wizkid then bags a nomination for Album of The Year, for Made In Lagos, while Tems bags another nomination for Best New Artist.
It’s been a tremendous year for both artistes. Wizkid has continued to soar with his fourth album while Tems has also featured on a Drake record.
Fast-rising Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi known professionally as Tems, has said that she didn’t realise how far she had come till she left Nigeria.
She made the statement via her verified Instagram page on Saturday, as she celebrated the one year anniversary of her debut EP, For Broken Ears.
Tems wrote; “GANG, It’s one year of For Broken Ears today. Really Feels like ages ago. I cannot tell it all what the Most High has done for me. Turned me into a trailblazer.
“Though we are all mad, I have decided not to disguise anymore. I didn’t realise just how far I have come till I left home. Nigeria does that to you.
“I pray we all see the power we have but we’re all too busy disguising. No more. I enter the door with my full chest.
If you are seeing this, own your madness. And let your light shine. Thank you for the abundance of love. I appreciate you GANG.”

Nigerian recording artiste, Tems, real name Temilade Openiyi has recorded her second Billboard Hot 100 top 40 entry in 2021 with Drake’s ‘Fountain’.
Recall Tems’ ‘Essence’ collaboration with Wizkid pulsated the talented 26-year-old into mainstream popularity following the success of the single on the Billboard chart. It has risen as high as No.44 on the same chart. Meanwhile, Canadian singer Justin Bieber has also featured on the remix version.
On Monday, September 13, the single, ‘Fountain’ debuted at No.26 on the Billboard chart.
The single is off Drake’s recently released album, Certified Lover Boy.
Drake’s album currently sits at No. 19. However, this week, Drake has reported nine of the 10 songs in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, while ‘Fountains,’ his collaboration with Tems sits at No. 26.
Ripples Nigeria also reported several days ago that Tems will be releasing her sophomore EP titled, If Orange Was A Place on Wednesday, September 15. This is a followup to her debut EP, For Broken Ears.
A short video clip making the rounds on social media shows the moment Grammy award-winner, Adele was spotted with Nigerian singing sensation, Tems.
Adele who appeared to be a fan of the Nigerian artiste was seen singing Tems’ hit song ”Try Me” to her in public.
Tems was visibly overjoyed as the side view of her head showed her nodding and smiling in approval.

Nigerian singers, Omah Lay and Tems have been arraigned before the Makindye Division court in Kampala for flouting COVID-19 guidelines in Uganda.
The fast-rising stars were on Sunday December 13, arrested together with their managers for holding an illegal concert at Ddungu resort in Munyonyo where they gathered big crowds, contrary to President Museveni’s directives on the prevention of the spread of Covid-19.
It was gathered that the organizers of the event disguised the show as a lunch and dinner event but it turned out to be a concert with large crowd in attendance.
Omah Lay, Tems, and the others were arrested and charged with doing “acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, Covid-19,” according to him Assistant Superintendent of Police and Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luk Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Earlier in March, Museveni banned all music concerts, closed down bars, banned fans at all sporting events, and reduced the numbers of people who could attend church services.
Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Sunday reported 461 new confirmed coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases in the country to 27,532.
