Police arrest fake soldier in Kano

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a fake soldier, Mukhtar Aminu Ibrahim.

Mukhtar was paraded at the command headquarters on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, alongside other suspects arrested for various crimes in the state.

Briefing newsmen, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, said operatives arrested the suspect while on patrol at Ibrahim Taiwo Road wearing army uniform.

“On 22/05/2023 at about 1100hrs a team of surveillance while on patrol arrested one Mukhtar Aminu Ibrahim, ‘m’, of Filin Mushe Quarters, Kano, at FCMB Bank, Ibrahim Taiwo Road Kano wearing a suspected Army Uniform. Investigation revealed that he is not military personnel. The case is under investigation,” the CP stated.

Police arrest soldier for allegedly stabbing man with knife in Ondo

Ondo State Police Command has arrested a serving soldier with the Nigerian Army, Tope Kazeem, for allegedly stabbing one Bunmi Omodele in Akure, the state capital, following a misunderstanding.

The soldier, who is serving at the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Barracks in Akure, was said to have attacked the victim, Bummi Omodele and stabbed him severally in the back and some other parts of the body during the fight.

According to an eyewitness, the victim, Omodele had a disagreement with the Kazeem’s friend, Azeez Ayomide in Adilewa area, off Oyemekun Road, Akure which led to a fight between them and the military officer had to intervene.

He said the soldier joined the fight to protect his friend from being beaten and stabbed Omodele severally. He explained that the victim was quickly rushed to the hospital where he was treated.

The soldier was apprehended and dragged to the police station where he was detained.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the incident to Channels TV said that the soldier has been arrested, adding that investigation is ongoing.

Odunlami noted that further details would be made available to the public later, as the case has been transferred to the state Police headquarter.

Abuja soldier arrested for allegedly hiring guns to soldiers

Operatives of the Department of State Service DSS have arrested a soldier identified simply as Nafiu and attached to the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Tungan Maje, Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly hiring out and selling guns to kidnappers.

The soldier was arrested last week at Dankogi Park, Zuba, with the support of members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in the area.

According to sources at the DSS, the soldier allegedly hires guns to kidnappers for N200,000 or N300,000.

He was reportedly arrested after some kidnappers, who were arrested, implicated him.

“They were asked to contact him for another deal to supply them with AK-47 rifles for N3m and he agreed.

But he was arrested by operatives of the DSS with a fully loaded AK-47 rifle which he was about to exchange for N3m at the location where the transaction was supposed to take place in Zuba” a source told Punch.

Soldier dies just weeks after his girlfriend was found hanged at Army barracks

A British soldier has died less than a month after his girlfriend, who was also a soldier, was found hanged at the Army barracks where she worked.

Sophie Madden, 23, was found dead at the Overhill Training Centre at St Martin’s Plain Camp, near Folkestone, UK on June 10 and on July 19, the body of Ross Burnside, who was in his 20s, was discovered in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.According to a Mirror UK report, the couple met while serving together in 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and at the time of his death, Burnside had moved on to work for the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery.

Reacting to the sad news, Army campaign group, Veterans Against Suicide, said the deaths were ‘preventable’ tragedies.An inquest into Sophie’s death has been carried out. Her death is not being treated as suspicious, according to Kent Police.

An Army spokesperson from the UK Ministry of Defence said: ‘It is with sadness that we can confirm the death of Bombardier Ross Burnside.‘Our thoughts are with Bdr Burnside’s family and friends at this sad time.’

Soldier commits suicide after killing Customs officer in Seme

A soldier has taken his own life after he shot dead a customs officer at Seme border in Lagos State, Daily Trust reports.

The incident reportedly happened Wednesday night.

A source who did not be named, said the incident took many by surprise.

“It’s possible that the soldier was under the influence of alcohol because no one expected him to behave in such a strange manner,” the source said.

PRO, Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Hussain confirmed the incident, saying the soldier took his life after killing the customs officer.

He said investigation is ongoing.

10-Year-Old Boy Has Been Tortured To Death By A Soldier

Information reaching our news desk now has it that Nigerian soldier has tortured a 10-year-old boy to death at Hayin Banki, Kaduna North Local Government.

It was gathered that the boy went into the Kotoko barracks that shares boundary with the aforementioned community to plunk mangoes from a tree.

According to a report, the soldier followed the boy back to the village and detained him in the said barracks where the small boy was tortured to death, though, when the soldier was torturing the boy, other colleagues warned him to release the boy but he refused to do that.

It was learnt that, Malam Ibrahim Hassan Wuyo, the Sarduana of Hayin Banki, equally comfirmed the development, saying that the boy is known with the name Muslim, adding that after the death of the boy, the soldier allegedly throw his lifeless body at Unguwan Kanawa community.

According to the traditional ruler, the suspected killer has been handed over to the Police by the military for further investigation and possible prosecution.
