Lagos Police Station set on fire by rampaging Youths

Irate youths in their numbers invaded and burnt down a police post located on Olayiwola Close, in the Oregun area of Lagos state on Monday, May 29.

Police sources say the youths stormed the station and attacked the facility, leaving one of the officers injured.

The injured policeman was rushed to the emergency centre at the toll gate along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway for prompt treatment.

While the station was on fire, officials of the Lagos State Fire Service were contacted and mobilised to the scene to salvage the situation. The fire was put out but part of the building of the police post was affected.

However, no weapon was stolen. The reason for the attack is not yet known.

This attack comes after some youths pushing for the actualization of the Yoruba nation attacked a police station and a radio in the state.

Two recruits killed as gunmen bomb police station in Imo

Two newly recruited police officers have been reportedly killed when unknown gunmen attacked the Umuguma Police Division in Owerri West local government area of Imo State on Saturday morning.

The invading gunmen were said to have used dynamite and other explosives in attacking the station.

Though the State Police spokesman, Michael Abattam, confirmed the attack on the station in a brief statement, he, however, maintained that no life was lost and no firearm was carted away.

“Yes, there was an incident, but our men repelled them, no life was lost and neither did we lose any firearm. They threw in dynamite which ignited the roof but our men engaged them. No life was lost and no arms was lost.”

But residents of the area who trooped to the scene shortly after the incident, insisted that two police officers were killed by the gunmen.

A resident of the area, Uche Igwenba who spoke to Ripples Nigeria, confirmed that indeed two officers lost their lives in the attack.

“As we speak, I am at the Umuguma Police Division in Owerri where gunmen attacked this morning. Two young officers were killed. I learnt that they were new recruits who have not been in the force more than one year each.

Though I don’t know them personally, I heard that they were called Ifeanyi and Iyke and one of them was a final year student of a university.

“The gunmen attacked the station at around 3am and the operation lasted for about 45 minutes.

“No one could come out. We only heard sounds of gunshots and heavy explosives,” Igwemba said.

Imo Police confirms arrest of ‘native doctor’, after alleged ESN attack on police station

The police in Imo have arrested the alleged Eastern Security Network (ESN) native doctor with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abutu Yaro and signed by the command’s Spokesman, CSP Mike Abattam in Owerri.

”After a diligent forensic and technical intelligence gathering, the suspect, Benneth Okoli, 49, was arrested in his shrine at Akuma in Oru East LGA of Imo.

“On searching the shrine, one locally made IED, charms and weed suspected to be cannabis were recovered.

The suspect on interrogation, made useful statements and is currently assisting the police to arrest the rest of his gang, presently on the run.

The arrest is coming a few days after bandits had an encounter with the police in the area.

“Sequel to the attack on the Omuma Police Station in Oru East by bandits suspected to be the remnants of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and ESN terror groups, the CP dispatched the command’s tactical teams led by ACP Benjamin Osuji.

“The team was directed to carry out discreet investigation and arrest the bandits involved in the attack of the police station.”

He said that the CP commended the gallantry displayed by the officers and men of the command, urging them to sustain the tempo.

He also thanked the people of Imo for their support and solicited for an all society approach to sustaining the already improved security architecture in the state.

Inspector killed as gunmen attack police station in Anambra

Gunmen on Thursday, attacked Ojoto Police station in Idemili South local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to Daily Post, one Police Inspector was killed in the attack which took place in the afternoon.

It was gathered that policemen on duty, however, prevented the attackers from setting the station on fire.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, told Daily Post that he was planning to visit the area immediately and he would respond after the trip.

But a Senior Police Officer in the state, who spoke with journalists in confidence, confirmed the attack on the police station, adding “we lost one Inspector today again.”

Hoodlums set ablaze Ojodu police station, Lagos

Hoodlums have set ablaze the Ojodu Police Station at the Berger area of Lagos State on Thursday.

The PUNCH gathered that no fewer than seven vehicles were also burnt.

An eyewitness, Idowu Jamiu, told our correspondent that the hoodlums also looted shops around the police station.

An affected trader, identified simply as Iya Agbo, said, “They also torched shops beside the station. They stole and destroyed our goods worth millions of naira.”

Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums had attempted to set the station ablaze on Wednesday but failed.

Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service are at the scene of the incident putting out the fire.
