The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has dismissed speculations that he was parting ways with the party.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Peter Obi Media Reach, POMR.

In the statement, the LP candidate distanced himself from the news item on some online platforms, stressing that it was the handiwork of mischief makers.

According to a statement signed by Obi’s Media Aide, Michael Jude Nwolisa, on Friday, the POMR expressed its wish to vehemently “dismiss trending fake and fallacious news stories suggesting that he was parting ways with the Labour Party.

“This is not true and it did not originate from Obi or the Obidient Movement but from mischief makers bent on sowing the seed of discord in the party.

“These rising misdemeanors on the party did not start today as they set out to destroy and disorganize the party all to get at Obi and derail the inevitable journey of rescuing Nigeria.

“Presently our principal is preoccupied with making Nigeria work not on partisan politics which ended on October 26, 2023, when the Supreme Court of the land took their final decision on the general elections.’’

June 12 is a historic day and deserves to be celebrated, says ex-Governor Peter Obi.

He, however, condemned the lack of credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.

According to Mr Obi, Nigeria’s democracy is undermined by impunity and violent bloodshed.

Commemorating Nigeria’s Democracy Day in a statement shared on his Twitter page, Mr Obi said;

“June 12 is a historic day that deserves to be celebrated” as it “underpins our long collective journey to nationhood as a true democracy.”

The Labour Party presidential candidate added, “Regrettably, we are now in an era where these foundational pillars of democracy are undermined by prevalent impunity and pervasive violence and bloodletting.”

The Anambra ex-governor lamented the “trust deficit between the leaders and Nigerians” and “search for a credible electoral system that would command the trust, confidence and belief of all Nigerians just like June 12 did.”

Ahead of the inauguration of Bola Tinubu as the 16th President of Nigeria, Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who is challenging the All Progressives Congress candidate’s victory in the presidential poll in court, has again appealed to Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

In the lengthy statement he released today, Obi noted that Nigeria remains our only patrimony and it is a patrimony we must protect, rather than violate.

He also that while there are efforts to taint his hard-earned image, he expects that the Nigerian judiciary will use the election cases to reaffirm its independence and integrity.

The statement reads;

“For all Nigerians, this is a time for deep reflection. It is also a time to re-examine our assumptions, even as we reaffirm our hopes. Let us calmly review our aspirations, in order to recalibrate our expectations and pin down the causes of our missed opportunities and disappointments. We stand at that critical moment in time when, as a people, we must collectively come to grips with the reality of our injured destiny as well as the reasons for that injury.

“It is for us to reassess our plight as a young democracy and identify clear pathways to a better and greater future for us all. As we await the verdict of the election tribunal, I urge all Nigerians to use this opportunity to renew their commitment to the Nigerian ideal. That ideal remains noble and worth every sacrifice we can make.

“Nigeria remains our only patrimony and it is a patrimony we must protect, rather than violate. We have no other nation but this, so let us remain committed to rescuing and rebuilding it.

“The judiciary is part of the democratic enterprise and a critical governance tool for determining the propriety of the decisions and actions of every citizen and every institution of state. To that extent, and for that reason, I urge everyone to treat it with the respect and dignity it deserves. We expect that the Nigerian judiciary will use the election cases now before it to reaffirm its independence and integrity. It has to do so, for all our sakes and for itself.

“Nigerians must, therefore, remain peaceful and law abiding. No matter the depth of anyone’s reservations about what is going on in the polity today, no matter the real and imagined provocations, and no matter the disagreement out there, we should remember that this will not last forever. I remain committed, and untiring, in my determination to work with like-minded fellow Nigerians to end the curse of missed opportunities and squandered hope that has become our lot here.

“I will never shrink from that original commitment, because I firmly believe that we must change from the present politics of criminality, and corruption, in order to make a new Nigeria possible. I call on fellow Nigerians, especially the youths to remain steadfast, calm, patient, and peaceful. Our journey may be long and difficult but it is worth it in every way. Victory is assured.

“We have to work together to move our beautiful country from corruption and criminality to a center of productivity rather than aimless consumption. I am aware of some evil designs being hatched against me and my supporters in the coming months. Efforts will be made to taint my image. Campaigns of calumny are being perfected to defame my character and diminish my hard-earned integrity.

“These schemes will aim at degrading our support base and confusing the public. But, no evil campaign will alter the substance of my character; nor diminish my patriotic commitment to a better Nigeria. It is about the future of our youths. it is about ending the Years of Locust. In all of this, I thank Nigerians, our great party (LP) and the media. The latter, as the Fourth Estate of the realm, has remained a trusted ally.

IPOB tackles Nigerians linking Peter Obi with the recent attack on US consulate convoy in Anambra

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has tackled Nigerians who are linking the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to last week’s attack on the convoy of US consulate staff in Ogbaru, Anambra State, last week.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group asked that Nigerians should desist from linking the former Anambra state governor to the attack and described the allegation as a mere demonization by those it noted do not want Obi to succeed.

IPOB argued that Obi “won” the February 25 presidential allegation and that his mandate is divine and can never be truncated by anyone.

“Those linking Peter Obi to these attacks on US Embassy Convoy are the ones that fingers are pointing to regarding the crisis happening in the south East region. There is no way they can link innocent Peter Obi to it because he is from Anambra State. Does that mean that all the attacks happening in Adamawa State and Katsina State were caused by Atiku Abubakar and the Buhari in Aso Rock, respectively? No matter how ESN security work is, it can never be deemed good or right by the Nigerian government and its security agents. What is the justification to link Peter Obi to the criminalities going on in the Southeast? Can it also be said that all the banditry and terrorism happening in Northern Nigeria is masterminded by their criminal politicians whose evidence shows that they aid and abet terrorists? We are aware that several terrorist and bandit groups in the North are sponsored by the unscrupulous elements around them there.

We should be asking, why are they mentioning Peter Obi? Is it because he summoned up the courage to contest their selection process called an election and won by a landslide? They are now robbing him of the mandate given to him by the people of Nigeria because he is an Igbo man.They are busy exposing their cluelessness in desperation to demonize IPOB.

America has one of the most sophisticated intelligence in the world and can not be deceived by Alamajiris in the government at Abuja. We expect the US government to carry out an independent investigation into the attack.”the group said

IPOB also denied claims that its members carried out the attack.

The US consulate staff were in the local government area for a humanitarian work when their convoy came under attack on Tuesday, May 16. Seven persons were killed in the attack.

Peter Obi says Nigeria is gradually descending into anarchy

Amid recent wanton killings in various states, including his home state Anambra, Peter Obi, a candidate in the last presidential poll, has warned about Nigeria’s “frightening gradual descent into anarchy.”

The opposition politician and former Anambra governor condemned the recent killings in Mangu LGA in Plateau, noting that “different reports of violent and criminal acts across the country have remained a source of serious worry to Nigerians.”

“The reports of violent attacks by gunmen in the Mangu council area of Plateau State, where many lives, including women and children, have been lost, come with grave concern,” he added.

While urging security agencies to tackle “incessant acts of killing, kidnapping, maiming and other acts of terrorism,” Mr Obi said, “I most sincerely urge the security agencies and the government to rise to the occasion of arresting this frightening gradual descent into anarchy.”

Peoples Gazette reported how gunmen on Tuesday laid an ambush on the diplomatic convoy conveying staff of the U.S. Embassy to Anambra on a humanitarian mission.

The Anambra police command revealed Thursday the gunmen killed nine people in the convoy.

In Plateau, a violent clash between Fungzai and Kubat in the newly created district of Bwai in the Mangu council left at least 60 people, including women and children, dead.

Presidential tribunal adjourns Obi’s petition against Tinubu

The Presidential Election Petition Court has adjourned the pre-hearing of the petition against the President-elect Asiwaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi to Friday, May 19.

Recall that Obi and the Labour Party are challenging the presidential election they claim was marred by irregularities and fraud.

Justice Haruna Tsammani adjourned the case to May 19 following the failure of parties in the petition to agree on documents among other issues.

Peter Obi visits Wole Soyinka

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Sunday, May 7, paid a courtesy visit to the Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka.

The visit comes weeks after Soyinka clashed with Obidients, a nickname for the supporters of Peter Obi.

Recall that Soyinka received heat from Obidients after he accused them of Fascism, adding that they don’t ‘entertain corrective criticism’.

He also stated that he warned Obi that his supporters may cost him the election.

He further incurred the wrath of the Obideint movement after publishing an article in which he described the ‘Obidients’ as one of the ‘’most repulsive, off-putting concoctions I ever encountered in any political arena”

Putting aside the political issues, Obi paid Soyinka a courtesy visit on Sunday. Posting photos from the visit online, Obi wrote;

‘’Today, I visited one of Nigeria’s most revered figures and an international literary icon, Prof Wole Soyinka. Prof Soyinka has been a father whom I hold in very high esteem for what he has achieved and stands for in the struggle for a better Nigeria. His reputation as a fighter for justice and equity in our society has been legendary and we will NEVER ignore them. I had a very useful and enriching discussion about his aspirations for a better and greater Nigeria, and he shared a lot with me about his dream for a greater and more inclusive Nigeria. I reminded the Nobel laureate of the huge price he paid just before the outbreak of the civil war, fighting for the cause of the Igbos. I cherished this Sunday’s visit which was intended to erase the needless misconceptions about the relationship between the great icon and the OBIdient family.”

Peter Obi is unknown, unpopular in 22 states of Nigeria- Federal Government

Peter Obi, a former Anambra governor and the flag bearer of the Labour Party considered a “frontrunner” in the February 25 presidential election, is “unknown” and unpopular in 22 states of Nigeria, the federal government has claimed.

“For instance, not only that the candidate must have the plurality of votes, he must also have one-quarter of the total vote cast in at least 25 states of the federation,” said the federal government’s information minister Lai Mohammed.

“When you look at the results, only the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, met these requirements.”

The minister added,

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, came short of these because he came second and had 25 per cent in 21 states. Obi came far behind with 25 per cent in 15 states. This means that Obi, who was wrongly adjudged as a frontrunner in the election, was virtually unknown and unpopular in 22 states.”

Mr Mohammed, on a publicity blitz overseas to prove that the presidential poll was free, fair and credible, stated this in London during his engagements with some international media organisations and think tanks, including The Economist, The Guardian and African Confidential, and Royal African Society.

“I also explained to them that many of them were ignorant of the constitutional requirements for a presidential candidate to win an election in Nigeria,” the minister noted.

During his meetings with them, the Nigerian minister said some commentators had the wrong mindset that the Labour Party and its Mr Obi would win the election, based on the hyped activities of the party and their supporters on social media, as well as the outcomes of various opinion polls which were unrepresentative of the situation in Nigeria.

“In the course of my interactions, particularly with The Economist, I referred them to an earlier article they wrote, in which they rated the Labour Party presidential candidate as the frontrunner in the polls,”

Mr Mohammed explained. “I explained to them that there was no way a presidential candidate who has no political spread and a grassroots base could win an election in Nigeria.”

Reno said the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and his Vice Presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed should be locked up when next they make “treasonous comments”.

Atiku Abubakar asked that we deepen our engagement with LP – PDP Chieftain Osita Chidoka

Osita Chidoka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has urged his party members to deepen engagement with the Labour Party (LP).

Mr Chidoka, a former Aviation Minister, shared photos he took while meeting with the Labour Party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi after his meeting with Atiku on Wednesday, March 29.

He wrote in the caption:

“At 8 am today I met with Atiku Abubakar and he asked that we deepen our engagement with LP. “At 6pm I met with my brother Peter Obi at his campaign office where he has been since 8am and still plan to be till 10pm. “Interesting how the erstwhile candidates are out and about pursuing their goals towards a better Nigeria.”

Chidoka did not disclose the details of the engagement. Atiku came second in the February 25 elections while the presidential candidate of the LP, Peter Obi, who defected from the PDP, came third.

Both PDP and LP are challenging the outcome of the February 25 election at the Presidential Election Petition Court.

Court grants Atiku and Obi’s request to serve petitions on Tinubu, Shettima and Masari through APC

A request by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for permission to serve their petitions on Bola Tinubu, Kashim Shettima and Kabir Masari though the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been granted by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

A three-member panel, presided over by Justice Haruna Tsammani, granted the request on Friday, March 24, in three rulings on the three ex-parte motions filed by Atiku and PDP; Obi and LP; and APM.

Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) who represented Atiku and the PDP sought leave to serve Tinubu with the petition and other accompanying processes through the APC.

Ikechukwu Ezechukwu (SAN) who represented Peter Obi and the Labour Party sought leave to serve Tinubu and Shettima though the APC.

Oyetola Atoyebi (SAN) who represented APM sought leave to serve Tinubu, Shettima and Masari through the APC.

Atiku rejects presidential election results, calls Tinubu drug baron

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected Saturday’s presidential election results, saying the exercise was the “worst in the history of the country.”

Mr Abubakar, who addressed journalists in Abuja Thursday evening, revealed that the outcome of the election, which favoured Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would be challenged in court.

“I have come to the conclusion that the process of the election was grossly manipulated…it is the worst in the history of our country’s democracy and the results must be challenged in court,” Mr Abubakar declared.

Mr Abubakar’s address comes a few hours after Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), also rejected the weekend exercise.

Mr Obi specifically said that the election exercise was “marred with irregularities”, stressing that he won the presidential election and would provide the evidence for Nigerians to see.

“We won the election, and we will prove it to Nigerians,” Mr Obi told reporters during a world press conference held in Abuja.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Wednesday, declared Mr Tinubu the winner of Saturday’s presidential election after he polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Mr Abubakar.

Mr Abubakar scored 6,984,520 votes to come second, while Mr Obi came third after polling 6,101,533 votes.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, also subsequently issued Mr Tinubu a “Certificate of Return” the same day.

President Muhammadu Buhari heartily congratulates the winner of the (2023) Presidential Election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Reacting to the results just announced, President Buhari said;

“I congratulate His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory. Elected by the people, he is the best person for the job. I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power.

“The election was Africa’s largest democratic exercise. In a region that has undergone backsliding and military coups in recent years, this election demonstrates democracy’s continued relevance and capability to deliver for the people it serves.

“Within Nigeria, the results reveal democracy’s ripening in our country. Never has the electoral map shifted so drastically in one cycle. In the presidential elections, states in all regions across the nation changed colour. Some amongst you may have noticed my home state amongst them. The winning candidate did not carry his own home state either. That happens during a competitive election. Votes and those that cast them cannot be taken for granted. Each must be earned. Competition is good for our democracy. There is no doubt the people’s decision has been rendered in the results we look at today.

“That is not to say the exercise was without fault. For instance, there were technical problems with electronic transmission of the results. Of course, there will be areas that need work to bring further transparency and credibility to the voting procedure. However, none of the issues registered represent a challenge to the freeness and fairness of the elections.

“I know some politicians and candidates may not agree with this view. That too is fine. If any candidate believes they can prove the fraud they claim is committed against them, then bring forward the evidence. If they cannot, then we must conclude that the election was indeed the people’s will – no matter how hard that may be for the losers to accept. If they feel the need to challenge, please take it to the courts, not to the streets.

“However, to do the latter means they are not doing it in the interest of the people, but rather to inflame, to put people in harm’s way and all for personal, selfish gains.

“After a degree of polarization that necessarily accompanies any election, it is now time to come together and act responsibly. I call on all candidates to remember the peace pledge they signed just days before the election. Do not undermine the credibility of INEC. Let us now move forward as one. The people have spoken.”

Obi, Atiku can go to court but they shouldn’t resort to violence- Tinubu

Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, has asked his major contenders in the February 25 presidential election to seek legal redress in court if they are dissatisfied with his victory.

Mr Tinubu, the president-elect, said he was aware that it would be “hard put” for the candidates of the main opposition parties to accept the results.

“Still, I know some candidates will be hard put to accept the election results. It is your right to seek legal recourse. What is neither right nor defensible is for anybody to resort to violence.

Any challenge to the electoral outcome should be made in a court of law, and not in the streets,” Mr Tinubu said in his acceptance speech titled, ‘The Era of Renewed Hope’, delivered in the early hours of Thursday, shortly after being declared winner of the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had in the early hours of today declared Mr Tinubu winner of the election after polling 8,794,726 votes to beat his closest rival of Atiku Abubakar of PDP, who scored 6,948,520 votes.

Peter Obi of Labour Party came third polling 5,101,533 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of NNPP came fourth with 1,496, 687 votes.

INEC results: Peter Obi wins Anambra state by a wide margin

The Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been declared winner of the presidential election conducted in Anambra state on Saturday, February 25.

According to the results released by INEC, Obi secured 584, 621 votes to beat PDP’s Atiku Abubakar who secured 9, 036 votes.

Bola Tinubu of the APC secured 5, 111 votes while the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, secured 1967 votes.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has won Enugu State in the presidential election which took place on Saturday,February 25.

According to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission collation officer in the state, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, Obi polled a total of 428,640 to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party who had 15, 749 votes while Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) gathered 4, 772.

The New Nigerian Peoples Party’s candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, came third with 1808.

Obi wins all 17 LGAs in Enugu

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s presidential election conducted in Enugu State.

Obi polled a total 428,640 votes to defeat other contenders, with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress scoring 15,749 and 4772 votes, to a distant second and third respectively.

The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, polled a total of 1,808 to record the fifth position.

The collation officer of presidential election in Enugu State and Vice Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, declared the results of the election.

According to him, a total of 2,112,793 voters were registered for the election, while accredited voters Scores: APC – 4772, LP – 428,640, PDP – 15,749 and NNPP – 1808.

Iwe noted that total valid votes are 456,424, rejected votes 12,467 and total votes cast were 468,891 respectively.

The Labour Party also won all the 17 local government areas of the state in a landslide.

104-year-old woman endorses Peter Obi, says he’ll fix Nigeria

A 104-year-old woman, Lolo Iyom Josephine Ezeanyaeche, has endorsed Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed for president, saying they will make Nigeria an investment hub.

Ms Ezeanyaeche, also the chairman emeritus of ‘The Voice for Senior Citizens of Nigeria’, known as Mama Africa, said this when she visited the Labour Party office in Abuja.

According to her, the endorsement of Mr Obi as the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was because he is qualified as the number one out of the four major contestants.

“The searchlight for his selection was nationally oriented and accepted for his visionary leadership, integrity, transparency, competence, capacity, character, selflessness, enlightenment, education, nationalism and globally acclaimed.

Calling him for this honourable task in our assessment will comfort Nigerians for a new beginning,” said Ms Ezeanyaeche.

The centenarian added, “Obi will fix the economy and create jobs. If the economy is fixed, it will be easier tackling insecurity, fighting corruption and improving the social well-being of the people.

Peter Obi will passionately undertake major constitutional changes that will bring about devotion of power, fiscal federation and entrenching of good governance and the rule of law.”

Ms Ezeanyaeche pointed out that Mr Obi has a great opportunity to change the course of the country’s future for good and will unite Nigerians.

Labour Party chairman Julius Abure said many groups and political parties had endorsed Mr Obi, urging “all our supporters that on the 25th of this month, which is Saturday, they should all come out to cast their votes for the labour party.”

He stressed that the Labour Party had confidence in INEC, led by Mahmoud Yakubu, to do the right thing and “appeal to INEC that the standard they have laid, the integrity they have built over the years, they must crystalise it by their activities in this election.”

Mr Abure added;

“They must be patriotic and put the interest of the country first and beyond every other interest. They must avoid the temptation of allowing this election to be compromised.

I must also commend all the international observers that have interfaced with me personally, with our party and with our candidate and have assured us that they will observe the election and do the right thing.”
