Bashir Adewinmbi, commander of the Amotekun Corps in Osun, says operatives arrested a suspected notorious cult leader in Ilesa on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mr Adewinmbi said the suspect, Taiwo Ogunsola, alias Taiwo Portable, was arrested Monday midnight after a complaint was lodged at the Ilesa area command of Amotekun about his nefarious activities.

He said the suspect, who had been on the wanted list of the Osun Police Anti-Cultism Unit for a long time, was found in possession of a Dane gun and an axe at his residence when he was arrested.

“Operatives of Osun Amotekun Corps on Monday midnight arrested a young man, Taiwo Ogunsola, 29, alias Taiwo Portable, for cultism activities in the Olomilagbala area, Ilesa, Osun state,” the Amotekun chief stated.

“He was arrested after a complaint was lodged at the Amotekun Ilesa area command about him and his gang members’ activities in Ilesa.”

Supreme Court affirms Ademola Adeleke as Osun governor

The Supreme Court has affirmed Senator Ademola Adeleke as the validly elected governor of Osun, putting to rest months-long legal battle between him and ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

In the lead judgment prepared and delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, a member of the five-man panel that presided over the case, the court held that the appellants, Mr Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress (APC), did not produce a concrete evidence to support their claims of over voting and improper accreditation of voters.

Mr Agim held that the evidence submitted by the appellant which did not include the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines of the 744 poling units in dispute, could not be relied upon as the primary source of records for the accredited voters in the polling units.

Failing to provide the authentic voter accreditation records from the BVAS implied that the appellants relied on a secondary, insufficient and inadmissible means to prove their allegations.

The court also ruled that the expert analysis presented by the APC and Mr Oyetola was not independent as the expert in question was a member of the APC and an associate of Mr Oyetola who had a vested interest in his analysis, affirming that the appellant failed to prove grounds of their petition.

“The appellant case clearly collapsed at the conclusion of evidence,” Mr Agim said.

Mr Oyetola had sought relief at the apex court following the Appeal Court’s upturning of his victory at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which affirmed Mr Adeleke as the validly elected governor.

Court sacks Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola and his deputy as APC candidates in the July 16 governorship election

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the nomination of Governor Isiaka Oyetola and his Deputy Governorship candidate, Benedict Alabi on the grounds that Governor Mai Mala Buni who submitted their names to INEC, violated the provisions of Section 183 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The verdict was given on Friday, September 30, in a suit filed by a member of the party, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), challenging the nomination and sponsorship of Governor Isiaka Oyetola and his deputy as the duly nominated candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In challenging the competence of the suit, Mr Kunle Adegoke (SAN) who represented Governor Isiaka Oyetola contended, among other grounds that the Plaintiff did not have the locus to commence the action and that the suit was statute-barred.

In his opposing arguments, Ogunwumiju who led Muyiwa Atoyebi SAN and Ademola Abimbola submitted that the Plaintiff rightly commenced the suit under Section 285(14) (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

Delivering judgment in the case, the presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite agreed with the submissions of the Plaintiff’s counsel and declared as null and void, the nomination of Governor Isiaka Oyetola and Benedict Alabi by the APC.

The court also held that Governor Mai Mala Buni acted in contravention of the provision of Section 183 of the Constitution when he held dual executive positions as the Governor of Yo e State and the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of APC.

The court held that the steps or decisions taken by Governor Mai Mala Buni, including forwarding the names of Governor Isiaka Oyetola and Benedict Alabi to INEC, amounted to a nullity in law.

Counsel to Gov Oyetola, Adegoke says his team will appeal the judgment.

EndSARS leaders give Oyetola seven-day ultimatum to increase workers ‘ salaries.

Some coordinators of the #EndSARS movement in Osun State have given the state government a seven-working day ultimatum to increase the salaries and allowances of its workers.

The movement, on Friday, in a statement co-signed by its Spokesperson, Olawale Bakare and Mobilisation Secretary, Olushayo Ogunleye, rejected the recent increase in salaries announced by the government and demanded a review.

The group said only five per cent increase was effected on the basic salaries of workers.

The statement read in part, “This height of hypocrisy owing to the recent fraudulent five per cent increase in the basic salary of workers from level 7 and beyond (sic). By implication, the workers being paid the paltry sum of N15,000 will now have just N750 added to their basic salary. This is sadly what Mr Governor wants to be worshipped for.

“We hereby reject this fraudulent and enslaving mode of payment, and demand an increased review of the salaries and allowances of Osun State workers, within the next seven working days.”

They also called on Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to give each of the families of the two people killed during the #EndSARS protest in the state a sum of N10 Million.

“Failure to address the aforementioned demands within seven working days, Mr Governor Gboyega Oyetola should resign and allow a more competent and humane leader to govern the state,” the statement read.

“I understand your plight, my 25 year old daughter had a nasty experience with SARS, almost losing her life.”

“On her way to the airport, she was stopped and terribly ransacked and surrounded by fully armed plain clothes policemen in a bus, detained for close to 30mins of thorough questioning.”

“Imagine a young female for that matter, all her belongings completely searched all because she was with a laptop on an official assignment from her office in lagos. I can only imagine the countless ones that have lost their lives from such ordeals, may their souls rest in peace.”

“I assure you that this is the beginning of greater things to come in Nigeria. I implore you to demand for more, but plead with you to do so in a peaceful manner, as anything outside of that will cause unnecessary havoc for all.”

“I have been informed of many innocent souls that were arrested and currently been detained, be rest assured that I am pursuing the matter and they will be set free.”

“To the men and women of the Nigerian police force, be assured that this movement is also for you, we know you are humans also and your reality is as a result of your environment.”

“This movements demands better on your behalf, and is aimed at pushing the government to do better for you and elevate your standard of living. Do not persecute your advocates.
