APC Northern Christian leaders to adopt consensus candidate against APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket

The All Progressives Congress Northern Christian leaders will be adopting a consensus candidate to defeat the All Progressives Congress’ Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The group led by Yakubu Dogara, a former speaker of the house of representatives, and Babachir Lawal, a former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), had earlier expressed their disappointment over the decision of the APC to field a same-faith ticket.

A communique issued after their meeting this past weekend read;

“That we have agreed to work together with a view to fostering unity, peace and national cohesion.

“To work together and jointly adopt a pan-Nigerian political platform that will engender unity, inclusiveness and a sense of belonging among the Nigerian citizenry.

“Conscious of multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-cultural configuration of Nigeria we believe that a same faith ticket and voting along religious lines may trigger dangerous dimensions of negative consequences among our disparate peoples in ways that will hamper nation building.

“Consequently, we have agreed to channel our energies on matters that unite us more as a people instead of encouraging attacks on sensitive issues bothering on religion in the name of politics.

“In view of the above, we have agreed to set up a committee with the mandate to fashion out strategies for advancing the objectives set forth in this resolution.”

‘The North is under siege,’ ACF reacts to Kaduna train attack

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Wednesday condemned the terrorists’ attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train with over 900 people on board.

An unspecified number of people were killed on Monday night when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the criminals in one of the train’s coaches went off and forced it to derail a few minutes into the trip.

In a statement issued by its Secretary-General, Murtala Aliyu, the ACF described the frequent attacks by terrorists in the Northern region as unacceptable.

The group insisted that the frequency of the attacks had shown that the region is under a siege.

The statement read: “The ACF commiserate with the souls lost, sympathises with the wounded and prays for an end to such ugly menace, not only in Kaduna State, but all over the federation.

“The fact that both air and rail systems, out of Kaduna, have been compromised, it is to be expected that a sensitive government should protect the only route (Kaduna/Abuja highway).

The attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train is unacceptable, and the frequency of such attacks on our towns and villages, highways and now train tracks and airports are lamentable.

“The banditry and terrorism have excised the North and the major economic activities of North-East and the North-West with a new ploy to block Kaduna which is the main gateway to the Northern part of the country.

“One can, easily, recall how the lives and economy of the Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger, and Kaduna (Birnin Gwari and Southern parts of Kaduna), were damaged, and now, taking their turn on the infrastructure.

“We call on northerners to remain positive and law-abiding, and not relent in their resilience and hope towards making lives better.

We also call on the Federal and State Governments to, as a matter of urgency, revisit their security architecture, with a view to protecting lives and property of Nigerians.

In bizarre move, IPOB bans eating of cows bred in the north

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has banned the rearing and consumption of cattle bred by northerners in the South-East part of the country.

The group’s director of state, Chika Edoziem, who disclosed this in a statement, said the ban would take effect on April 8, 2022.

He, however, said only the Efi Igbo (local cows) would be allowed for consumption and ceremonies in the region.

Edoziem added that the ban would end the incessant attacks on the people of the South-East.

The statement read: “8th April 2022 is the date. From that date, no more Fulani cow shall be allowed into Biafraland for any reason, not for burials, title taking and weddings etc.

“Only Efi Igbo (local cow) shall be consumed and used for all ceremonies in Biafraland.”

IPOB has been enforcing a sit-at-home order in the South-East since August in a bid to force the Federal Government to release its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial for alleged treason at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

However, the authenticity of the latest statement issued by the so-called IPOB director of state has not been confirmed.

This is because most of the statements emanating from the group were issued by its Secretary of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful.

The North stopped voting for Yousef when he started developing feelings for Angel – Fan says

A Big Brother Naija fan identified as Asiwaju Lerry, has said that evicted housemate, Yousef lost majority of his voting fans because of his closeness to Angel.

According to Lerry, the north which he believes have been saving Yousef, stopped voting for him the moment he started developing feelings for Angel while in the house.

Recall that Yousef, who is from Jos, Plateau state got evicted from the reality TV show on Sunday, 19th of September alongside Saskay.

Following his eviction, the BBNaija fan stated that his emotional attachment to the 21-year-old female housemate was responsible for him losing a large percentage of his voting fanbase.

Asiwaju wrote; ”I already said it that the moment Yousef started developing feelings for Angel, he’s going to lose the North’s votes.”

Insecurity has set education in the north 20 years backward —Former Head of State, Abdulsalami

A former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) has lamented that the insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria has taken education in the region 20 years backward.

The former head of state spoke on Thursday when he received officials of the Niger State chapter of the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR) led by its state chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, at his Minna residence in Niger State.

Abdulsalami noted that many children of school age can no longer go to school while those in schools are being kidnapped.

He said, “Insecurity has taken education in the north back 20 years. We are facing serious insecurity. Some heartless people keep kidnapping our children. forgetting that they too have children.

Will they be happy if their children are kidnapped and traumatised?”

Also, he explained that insecurity is a major hindrance to the socio-economic development of the nation and called for all hands to be on deck to bring it to an end.

Meanwhile, he blamed the poor economic situation in the country on the effect of the COVID-19, saying it has handicapped the states and Federal Government financially.

“COVID-19 became a stumbling block to the world; COVID-19 brought a setback to all our programmes,” he added.

NORTHERN COALITION PLANS TO SUE BUHARI OVER SERVICE CHIEFS’ TENURE.

THE Coalition of Northern Groups says it’s dragging the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to court over the continued retention of the nation’s service chiefs.

On assumption of office in 2015, the President appointed General Gabriel Olonishakin as Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff and Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Chief of Naval Staff.

There have been calls for their removal for non-performance, but spokesman for the President, Mr. Garba Shehu, had consistently argued that only Buhari could hire and fire the service chiefs. However, the CNG disagreed, saying that the service chiefs have overstayed.

The coalition added that under them, the security situation in the North had worsened, hence the need for the court to compel Buhari to remove them (service chiefs). The CNG argued that there were laws guiding the appointments of the service chiefs, which must be followed to evolve the system. This, the northern organisation said, would be explored when they get to the court. CNG’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, stated these in an exclusive chat with The PUNCH in Kaduna.

Suleiman said, “The CNG is going to court because we believe it is now no longer a question of performance, but one of legality on whether the service chiefs, who have overstayed their years of service should not be compelled to comply with the laws guiding the prevailing scheme of service in the country.

“We would seek interpretation from the courts on the applicability of the law that says if a public servant attains 60 years of age, he must retire, or if he covers 35-years in service, he should go. On moral grounds, CNG regrets that by any standard of judgement, President Muhammadu Buhari and his security chiefs as constituted today have failed the nation in the vital area of improving its security.0
