A young man identified as Auwal Mohammed Mustapha (Baushe) was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend in Unguwar Gabarin village in Pokistum town, Yobe State.
According to Facebook user, Khalid Yusuf Tebo, the suspect stabbed Baushe in his stomach with a knife during a fight over a phone.
The incident happened on Friday, May 12, 2023.
“Parents must stand up and control their children, this young man comes from my neighborhood, his friend stabbed him to death. That friend and him are hunting together, according to people it was a fight on phone that caused the death of our little brother. This is the second one, a young man (Abban Wali) was also killed last year and found in the river. Subhanallah! The time has come when we have to stop giving birth recklessly. There is no tragedy greater than the murder in a community. May God have mercy on him. RIP Baushe,” he wrote.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested nine suspected Sara-Suka (thugs) in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man, Abbas Jibrin, alias Timo, on 2022.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, said the suspects and others presently at large, lured the deceased to a location and attacked him with cutlasses.
He was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), in Bauchi where he was certified dead.
“On 09/04/2023 at about 0100hrs operatives attached to the Command Rapid Response Squad (RRS) led by the Commander to sustain the visibility policing raided respective criminals’ hideout and arrested a syndicate of Sara-Suka who sometime last year killed one Abbas Jibrin alias Timo m aged 23yrs of Nasarawa Jahun ward at Wakilin Birni Rice Mill Bauchi,” the statement read.
The names of the suspects are; Mustapha Abdulmumini,20, alias Orezi, Kabiru Haruna, 23,alias Park, Sulaiman Al-Mustapha,18, alias Illa, Umar Ibrahim,19,alias Churi, Ibrahim Ahmad,19, alias Dan Hajiya, Sunusi Abdulhamid,18, alias Dan Shiah, Idris Malam,19, alias Baffa, Ibrahim Mohammed,23, alias Keke, all of Nasarawa Jahun Bauchi metropolitan, and Sani Muktar alias Gado,21, of Abujan Kwata.
“The confederate of the Mustapha Abdulmumini alias Orezi and Kabiru Haruna alias Park, Sulaiman Al-Mustapha alias Illa and Umar Ibrahim alias Churi who are the prime suspects that cut off the limp of an innocent citizen earlier last year.”
“The organized operation was successful and yielded positive results. A discreet investigation by the Command uncovered that on 21/08/2022 at about 1100hrs, the deceased Abbas Jibrin was called upon by his friends Abdul alias “Cannvaro, Auwal Bakware, Ahmadi and a host of others who are presently at large carted away with him on their motorcycle and thereafter he was rescued by the Police, where he was seriously injured with cutlasses, rushed to the ATBUTH Hospital, Bauchi and later certified death by the medical doctor.”
“The Commissioner of Police ordered for postmortem examination for the deceased who was later released to his relatives. He further assured the family and the public that no stone will be left unturned and Justice would be served unfailingly.”
A young woman identified as Odide Regina Uke, has been allegedly raped and murdered in Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
It was gathered that Regina was killed by a commercial motorcyclist after arriving in the community from Abuja to celebrate Christmas with her family.
According to reports, Regina arrived Bekwarra on Thursday night, 22nd December 2022, and fell into the hands of the motocyclist whose ride she boarded to her village, Abuagbor under Nyanya Ward.
Regina was never seen alive again as all efforts made to find her proved abortive. Her corpse was found about a week later somewhere around Ugboro and Ijibor Community axis in the same Bekwarra LG.
It was gathered that she was dispossessed of her belongings, raped, and murdered allegedly by the suspect. The Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government, Hon. Dr. Emeka, Josephat Owan, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, January 2, 2023, said he has set up a high powered body of investigation to unravel the mystery behind the gruesome murder.
“I received with great shock the terrible news of the cruel murder of Odide Regina Uke. Her untimely death is not an accident, but a direct act of Man’s inhumanity to Man,” the statement read.
“I condemn in totality this barbaric and dastardly act meted on this innocent and promising child by one of us (a Cyclist) in our once peaceful Bekwarra nation. My Deepest condolences and utmost sympathy goes to the family.
“I am assuring the family and the Bekwarra Nation that I will leave no stone unturned, as plans are already in place to set up a high powered body of investigation to unravel the mystery behind the murder of the innocent girl.”
“Thorough investigation shall be put in place to ensure that the law takes its full course on anyone found wanting or culpable in the circumstance.” he added. Meanwhile, Regina was laid to rest on Saturday, December 31.
Mexican authorities have confirmed the death of a pregnant woman who was cut open by two assailants who stole her unborn baby.
The attorney general’s office in the eastern state of Veracruz said in a statement, that the suspects were arrested with a newborn in their possession.
The suspects said to be a man and a woman, appeared before a judge on Monday, December 5, after being accused of kidnapping and femicide.
Local media reported that this is the third case that was carried out in the same manner in recent years.
Relatives of the deceased also disclosed that the victim was lured to her death through social media with a promise of clothes for her baby.
An official linked to the investigation who spoke to AFP said the suspects sliced open the victim to extract the fetus because the woman attacker was unable to have children herself.
A nurse accused of murdering seven babies in Chester, UK has gone on trial.
Lucy Letby, who is also charged with the attempted murder of 10 other babies between June 2015 and June 2016, allegedly killed five boys and two girls while working at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
The killing which happened within a year took place while she was a staff member in the neonatal unit, the court heard on Tuesday, October 4.

A Kano High Court number 17 sitting at Miller road has adjourned the hearing of Chinese national, Geng Quangrong, accused of killing his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani Buhari, over absence of interpreter.
Mr Quandong, 47, allegedly murdered Ummukulsum, 23, at Janbalu quarters for allegedly refusing his hand in marriage.
At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, Muhammad Dan’azumi, the defence counsel, notified the court that an interpreter had not been provided for the accused.
The case, which was originally slated to commence last week Monday, was adjourned to Tuesday due to a lack of legal representation for Mr Quandong.
Initially, the police in Kano, North-west Nigeria, on 21 September, arraigned Mr Quandong before a magistrates court at Zangeru road in Kano.
At the hearing, Mr Quandong addressed the court in Chinese, which made it difficult for the parties involved including the magistrate to comprehend the message.
The Magistrate, Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji adjourned the case to 27 October, with the hope that an interpreter would have been found to explain the charges to Mr Quandong in Chinese.
Speaking shortly, Kano state Attorney General and commissioner of justice, M, A Lawan said, the case could not be heard as the accused person has the constitutional right to be communicated to in the language he understands.
“The issue of interpreter was raised which is a constitutional issue and after the last adjournment, we wrote a letter to the Chinese embassy requesting for interpreter because we expected this to happen and I am sure they will do that.
That is why we adjourned the matter to at least three weeks. Ordinarily, it’s supposed to be a week.” he said.
Former “Riverdale” actor Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the first 14 years, after admitting to murdering his mother and also plotting to assassinate Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The 24-year-old actor was handed the sentence more than six months after he pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge for the March 2020 killing of his mother, Barbara Waite, 64, whom he shot in the back of the head as she played the piano.
Justice Kathleen Ker of British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver who passed the judgement, described the case as tragic, heartbreaking and “life-shattering”.
Prosecutors had recommended in a sentencing hearing earlier this year that Grantham receive a parole ineligibility up to 18 years.
The former actor’s legal team had suggested 12 years as a fair consequence. With around 30 credits on his resume, Grantham noticeably played Jeffrey Augustine on the fourth season of the soapy Riverdale in 2019.
While appearing briefly, the character had a pivotal role in the Archie comics-based show. Starting his career back in 2007, Grantham also appeared in the 2010 movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid, as well as stints on Supernatural, ‘iZombie’ and in ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’.
It was revealed in court that after the murder of his mother, Grantham took video of the body and confessed to the killing on-camera.
A day later, after carefully arranging the body in a semi-religious scene, Grantham hit the road. With ever changing intent, he at one point was going to try to kill Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, as he also wrote in a journal entered as evidence.
Grantham also considered committing a mass shooting at Vancouver’s Simon Fraser University or on the iconic Lions Gate Bridge.
Thankfully, none of that came to pass and Grantham instead went to East Vancouver police station and surrendered. “I killed my mother,” he is reported to have bluntly declared to police at the front desk of the station.
During the sentencing, Ker called it a “saving grace” that Grantham had enough attachment to reality and comprehension not to commit an act of mass murder.
She noted that in the months leading up to his mother’s killing, Grantham was in a downward spiral, which saw him smoking weed and watching violent videos on the dark web while being plagued by thoughts of suicide and homicidal ideations.
Ker also said Grantham appeared truly remorseful. In June, he apologized for his actions, saying his mother did not deserve what he did to her.
A man named Godwin Essang has been arrested after his girlfriend, identified as Uwakfon Sunday Akpan, was found dead with a broken neck in her apartment in Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday, September 13.
According to her relative, who is a human rights activist named Levite Akpan, the suspect had called Levite’s mum to inform her that Uwakfon had passed away after complaining of headache.
He said Essang claimed he gave Uwakfon paracetamol and left for church only to return to meet her dead.
Levite said his mum doubted the story so she some relatives to Uwakfon’s house where they found her lifeless body with ”wounds all over and her neck broken.”

Some relatives went to my cousin’s house and found her lifeless body with wounds all over and her neck broken. We quickly invited the police and Godwin was arrested.”

American influencer and Only Fans model, Courtney Clenney, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of her late Nigerian boyfriend, Christian Tobechukwu Obumseli.
Clenney, who is professionally known as Courtney Tailor, was arrested on August 10 as a suspect in Obumseli’s murder which occurred earlier in the year.
It was reported last week that policemen responded to calls at the couple’s Miami apartment on April 3, where Tobechukwu was found bleeding. Clenney was also found covered in blood at the scene.
Miami Fire Rescue personnel took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where a doctor pronounced him dead.

Police in South Africa have declared one Bongani Sanele Mlambo, wanted for the brutal murder of a 23-year-old student, Xolile Mbatha.
The Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) student died after being stabbed by the suspect, who is said to be her boyfriend, in her Ark Royal residence bathroom in Durban.
Mbatha was stabbed multiple times over a dispute. It is alleged that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the brutal attack.
Mbatha, who hailed from the rural town of Umsinga, was a final-year electrical engineering student. Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, in a statement on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, appealed to anyone who have useful information on the whereabouts of the wanted suspect to contact the investigating officer.
“On 31 July 2022 at 07:30, Point police were called to a student residence at Mahatma Gandhi Road where a 23-year-old woman was stabbed.
Upon arrival at the scene, police found the body of a woman with multiple stab wounds on the body. She was certified dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Xolile thoko Mbatha.
A case of murder was opened at Point SAPS,” the statement read. “A warrant of arrest has been issued for Bongani Sanele Mlambo (28). His current whereabouts are unknown.

Uduak was convicted by Justice Bassey Nkanang of the Akwa Ibom State High Court today August 4, for raping and killing Iniubong Umoren.Umoren, a graduate of Philosophy, University of Uyo, was killed in April 2021 by Akpan. The deceased was job hunting while awaiting mobilization for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme when she encountered Akpan who feigned he had a job for her.
On getting to his apartment, Akpan raped her, and then killed her. Shortly after he was sentenced to death by hanging, Uduak attempted to flee the court room.
More disclosures have been publicised in the wake of the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mr Nnamdi Kanu, by the Federal Government.
This was contained in a letter addressed to Western diplomats by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed by Minister Geoffrey Onyeama.
Kanu reportedly orchestrated the killing of 60 persons and the destruction of property in 55 violent attacks across the South East and South South Zones within four months, the memo disclosed.
Ripples Nigeria gathered that the letter dated April 26, 2021 detailed atrocities committed by members of IPOB on the alleged instruction of Kanu who was then in exile.
With several Kanu’s broadcasts from Europe, there were concerns in official quarters that some western countries were justifying IPOB’s violent acts under the guise of the group’s pursuit of self-determination.
According to the details contained in the letter, the Federal Government objected to a statement by an agency of a western nation whose government had noted and admitted that the creation of Eastern Security Network (ESN), based on its own understanding, was to combat insecurity.
The Federal Government, in its letter, however considered the statement (by the western nation) as ” justifying the establishment of a militia by a non-state actor and glossing over the destructive and violent acts of IPOB and the ESN.”

The Bayelsa State Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and Other Related Matters investigating extra-judicial killings by the police during the #EndSARS protests last year, has awarded N16m against the police for the killing of a 17-year-old boy, Innocent Kokorifa, who was killed in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The teenager who was the son of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official, Daniel Kokorifa, attached to the Rivers State Command, was reportedly killed by a trigger-happy police officer in August 2016.
The father of the deceased, a native of Okpotuwari in the Southern Ijaw, Ijaw local government area of the state, had in his petition submitted on Saturday, numbered BYS/JPI/012/2020, prayed the panel to also consider the sum of N6m incurred since the brutal murder of his son.
While ruling on the petition, the chairman of the panel, Justice Young Ogola (Rtd), awarded Kokorifa the sum of N16m in temporary compensation against the police.
“There is no compensation for what was pronounced as vicarious liability or so, nothing that the policeman, who committed the crime, has already been sentenced to death, can say in his defence,” Ogola remarked during the judgment.
Police operatives in Ogun State have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a woman, Modupeola Folorunso, and her four-year-old son for ritual purpose in the state.
The suspects – Baoku Gbuyi (29), an herbalist, and Olamide Odulaja (27), a bricklayer, were arrested after the woman’s husband filed a report at the police divisional headquarters in Ijebu-Igbo last month about his missing wife and son.
The spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta, however, did not mention when the suspects were arrested.
He said the police detectives embarked on a technical and intelligent based investigation which led to the arrest of Odulaja in Ibadan while the herbalist was traced to Kajola village and arrested by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Awa Ijebu Division with the assistance of hunters and local vigilantes.
Oyeyemi said: “During interrogation, Odulaja confessed that he and one herbalist abducted the victim and her son on February 13, 2021, and that the victim and her son were killed for a money ritual at the house of the said herbalist.
Subsequently, all the adjoining divisions were alerted to be on the lookout for the fleeing suspect.
“He was eventually traced to Kajola village, where he was arrested by the Divisional Police Officer, Awa Ijebu with the assistance of hunters and local vigilantes.
“On interrogation, the herbalist confessed that it was Odulaja who approached him for the money-making ritual following which he asked him to bring a head of human being as one of the materials to be used.
“He stated further that they both conspired to abduct the woman and her son and slaughtered them for that purpose.
“He also confessed that he burnt the woman’s head with some other herbs which he gave to Odulaja to use.
When asked about the little boy, the suspect said his head and remains were dumped inside a pit latrine.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
A 10-year-old boy, Monday Omoruye, who lives at Ring Road in Edo State has been arrested by security operatives for his involvement in crime activities. In a video that has now gone viral, Omoruye confessed that he was introduced to robbery by his brother and that he had carried out four robbery operations so far.
When asked where he got his weapons from, he said during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, he alongside his brother and some of their friends broke into Oba market police station and stole arms from the station. Speaking further, Omoruye said his brother taught him how to shoot a pistol and so far he had killed two people during the course of robbery. He said, “My name is Monday Omoruye. My father, Odiom, stays at Aro Junction. My mummy stays elsewhere while I stay at Ringroad.
“I am here because of the phone matter. One of my friends, someone came to buy a chain from him, N10, 000, he gave him N8, 000. We said we should go and get the N2, 000, we held him that he won’t go unless he pays the complete money. “There’s one guy, I don’t know if he was drunk, he gave us a phone, we returned it. He told the other guy he wants to sleep, we told him not to allow him sleep because that one will steal everything, money and phone, the guy didn’t listen.
When it was daybreak, I said don’t give him your phone but he didn’t listen, the other guy told him he wanted to download lots of music but ran away so we were looking for him, the owner of the phone said if he doesn’t see him, he will hold me, that was why he held me, called vigilante for me. “My brother has two police guns that he collected from the police station at Urban market during #EndSARS protest.
“I can operate a small pistol, my brother taught me and he keeps them all. I have followed them to four robbery operations in Sapele, Siluko Road, Sakpoba. We have killed 2 people, one at Siluko Road, the other at Igan Market. I don’t know the names of those people we killed. When we finish robbing, we go to the cartel. “If you want to see my brother, go in the morning and around 8pm, you will see him.”

The police in separate statements said the attacks occurred in Dandume and Maradun local government areas of Katsina and Zamfara respectively.
A Russian court on Friday sentenced a distinguished historian known for re-enacting Napoleonic battle scenes to 12.5 years in jail.
He was convicted for the murder of his young student lover, whom he dismembered.
Oleg Sokolov, 64, a former history professor at St. Petersburg State University, was found in a river in November 2019 with a bag containing the severed arms of Anastasia Yeshchenko, a 24-year-old postgraduate.
Mr. Sokolov pleaded guilty to her murder, but told the court it had not been premeditated and that she had driven him to a state of complete insanity by making insulting comments about his children from another relationship.

The prosecution had asked the court in St. Petersburg to jail him for 15 years. Mr. Sokolov said he was tormented by the crime and sought a more lenient sentence.
As she handed down the verdict, the judge said Mr. Sokolov had shot Ms. Yeshchenko four times with a rifle before dismembering her with a knife and saw, taking the body parts out in bags and dumping them in St Petersburg’s River Moyka.
He got rid of her phone in the river near his home, but was caught while disposing of the body parts.
When the severed arms failed to sink, he got into the frigid waters and was then physically unable to get back out because of the cold, the judge said. He was subsequently caught.
The court also found him guilty of weapons possession and that was factored into his 12.5 year sentence.
Mr. Sokolov is an expert on Napoleon Bonaparte and was awarded the Legion of Honour order of merit by France.
