Libya’s Internal Security Agency has arrested a Pakistani national on charges of enticing local Libyan people to convert from Islam to Christianity.
The Libya Observer reported the arrest on Sunday, April 9, 2023.
Security forces in Libya have arrested five Nigerian and Ghanaian nationals for allegedly running a brothel in a rented apartment.
According to Migrant Rescue Watch, the suspects were arrested in Tajoura, a town in north-western Libya, on Monday, October 24, 2022.
“Security forces in Tajoura, Libya arrested 5 undocumented migrants, pimps of Ghanaian and Nigerian descent for running an illegal prostitution brothel in an apartment.
During raid officers seized home made alcohol, illicit drugs, fake money & unauthorized wireless radio devices” the agency tweeted.
Another batch of 158 Nigerians returned from Libya on Tuesday.
The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mustapha Habib, confirmed the development to journalists in Lagos.
Habib said the returnees arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 5:15 p.m. aboard the Al Buraq Air boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG
He was represented at the airport by the Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye.
The returnees include 83 male adults, 49 female adults, six male and seven female children, with 13 infants (eight male and five female).
He said four of the returnees were brought back with various health challenges.
According to the NEMA chief, the returnees were brought back to the country by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) through a voluntary repatriation programme for distressed persons.
The figure brought the number of Nigerians that had returned from the North African nation in the last month to 320.
This followed the evacuation of 162 Nigerians from Libya by the Federal Government on March 15.
Habib said: “They had left the country to seek greener pastures in various European countries but could not afford to return when their journey became frustrated.”
He urged Nigerians to adopt a positive attitude toward life challenges instead of seeking greener pastures in foreign lands.
The Federal Government has evacuated 100 Nigerians stranded in Libya.
The Chargé D’affaires en titre of the Nigerian Embassy in Libya, Kabiru Musa, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Tripoli.
He said the returnees are expected to arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Friday night.
The official added that another set of 100 stranded Nigerians would return home in the next 10 days.
Musa said among those to be repatriated are victims of human trafficking and persons detained in Libyan prisons for migration offences, among others.
He revealed that the exercise was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the support of the Ministry of Defence

The embassy official said: “Under the special arrangements, NAF aircraft C-130 H evacuated 100 stranded Nigerians detained in various Libyan prisons after they had served respective jail terms.
“The aircraft arrived in Tripoli on Friday, 13th August 2021 at 2.00 pm local time for the evacuation exercise.
The repatriated Nigerians included men, women, and children some of whom were either victims of human trafficking or ISIS reign of terror. They were held captives for several years until their captors were killed.
“Others were jailed for committing migration offenses.
“The Embassy in fulfilling its obligations to Nigerian citizens exerted efforts with coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the return of the Nigerians home and to reunite them with their families.
“The exercise was successfully carried out with the support of the Ministry of Defense which provided the aircraft.
The exercise will be a continuous one until all Nigerians stranded in Libya are returned home. Already, another batch of 100 Nigerians will be evacuated in 10 days.”
He thanked the Libyan authorities for ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise.
