Three officers injured in fresh attack on Akwa Ibom police station

Unknown gunmen on Saturday night injured three police officers during an attack on the divisional police headquarters in Udung Uko local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

Eyewitnesses told journalists on Sunday the gunmen stormed the police station in a Toyota Sienna car and opened fire on police officers on duty.

The attack is the fourth on Akwa Ibom police facilities in the last two months.

The spokesman of the state police command, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the attack.

He, however, said no life was lost in the incident.

He said: “An attempt was made at our facility in Udung Uko local government area of Akwa Ibom State but our men repelled that attack. There was no casualty. The vigilance of our men on duty led to the foiling of the attack.

“Armed men came into the station in a Toyota Sienna car with an unknown number and opened fire. Our men replied them and they zoom off. The place has been fortified and investigation is ongoing.”

Nine people injured in Iran explosives factory blast

Not less than nine people were injured in a blast on Sunday at a plant producing explosive materials in Iran’s central province of Isfahan, ISNA news agency has reported.

According to the Head of the province’s crisis management organisation, Mansour Shisheforoush, the reason for the blast, which occurred at Sepahan Nargostar Chemical Industries at 4:00 am local time (2330 GMT) was unclear and still under investigation.

He said the nine factory workers that were injured had been taken to hospital, while several investigative teams were currently working to determine the cause of the blast.

Meanwhile, the plant is located about 45 kilometres northwest of Isfahan city.

The company manufactures “industrial-commercial explosive materials” and was established in 1941, according to its website.

One killed, another injured in Brooklyn Mall shooting

One man has been killed with another injured after a shooting outside a Brooklyn NYCHA Mall in the United States on Sunday night, according to the Brooklyn County police.

The victims were reportedly shot at about 5:30 pm in front of a building within the Red Hook Houses on Centre Mall near Clinton Street, according to cops.

The late victim, Felton Durant, 23, was struck in the torso, buttocks and hand, and was taken to the Methodist Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The other man who is unidentified, was shot in the arm. He was treated at the scene and released.

No arrests were made by early Monday morning, the police said.

Four soldiers injured, as Boko Haram attacks Monguno

The Senator representing Borno South senatorial district and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has revealed that four soldiers were injured when Boko Haram insurgents attacked Monguno and other communities last Friday.

Ndume made this disclosure during a press briefing on Sunday, April 4.

According to the Senator, the insurgents were killed by a force comprising soldiers, police and some civilian volunteers.

A joint task force comprising the soldiers, police and the civilian JTF on Friday killed all the insurgents that came to attack Monguno and other adjoining communities.

“I commend the military and other security agencies that contributed to the success of the operation.

Unfortunately during the attack, about four soldiers sustained injuries while pursuing the insurgents.

“We encourage them to do more in order to bring the issue of insurgency under control.
