Gunmen storm Ogun farm, kill two and kidnap two others

On Wednesday, gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, shot dead two people and abducted two others at a farm in Awo Village in the Obafemi-Owode council area of Ogun.

One of the deceased was an area commander of the Ogun security outfit, So-Safe Corps, identified as Saheed Ogunrinde.

The gunmen were said to have appeared in camouflage and invaded a popular farm in the village which had more than 200 workers.

The kidnappers were reportedly trailed by a combined team of policemen and So-Safe Corps operatives.

Confirming the incident, the Commander of So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzalo, said his men participated in the operation to salvage the situation after the suspected kidnappers had invaded the village.

“A distress call was made to Owode area command by the DPO Owode Division that two people were killed, and two others were kidnapped in Abule Awo, Orile-Imo, on Tuesday,” stated Mr Ganzalo.

“The Owode area command of So-Safe led by Saheed Ogunrinde moved to the affected location to salvage the situation.”

He added;

“On getting there, a joint operation was carried out by our men and Nigeria police, and all efforts to track the kidnappers proved abortive. The following morning, on Wednesday, when our men resumed with the police to search the location, which led them to the interchange area.”

On sighting “our men,” Mr Ganzalo narrated, “the kidnappers opened fire, and their bullet hit Ogunrinde, who died in the process. His body has been taken to his house at Ajura and buried. His rifle and phone were taken away by the kidnappers.”

When contacted, a police spokesman in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, stating that a suspect was arrested and operatives of the joint operation were trailing others.

“Two people were shot, and one of them died on the spot. They also kidnapped two,” the police officer said.

Gunmen kill policeman attached to Delta State Government House

Gunmen have killed a policeman attached to the Counter Terrorising Unit attached to the Delta State Government House, Asaba.

According to the PUNCH, the policeman simply identified as Solomon, among others, were on a mission to River State when they ran into an ambush by unknown gunmen on East-West Road, in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State.

“Some members of CTU in Government House went for a mission in Rivers State on Friday, and ran into an ambush by unknown gunmen,” a source said.

“The gunmen shot at their vehicle, they retaliated and unfortunately, Solomon was shot dead while other members of the team escaped.

“It is sad for Solomon to die in the mission. Solomon was among the police team that escaped last February incident when unknown gunmen killed three policemen on the entourage of Governor Okowa.

Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident, said the convoy ran into the gunmen while they were operating.

“Yes, I can confirm that it happened. He was not the target. What happened was that the gunmen were operating when their convoy ran into them. In the process, he was hit by a stray bullet. The incident occurred in Rumuji, in the Emuoha Local Government Area section of the East-West Road.” the PPRO said.

Gunmen abduct Nasarawa Deputy Governor’s driver

Daniel Ogoshi, the official driver of Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, has been abducted by suspected kidnappers.

It was gathered Ogoshi was taken from the residence of his friend around 9:30 pm on Tuesday, April 18, at Ombi 2, college of Agric, Kwandere road, Lafia, leaving his phone and car behind.

A family friend, who confirmed the incident to The Nation, said he received a call around 9 pm that his brother had been taken away by kidnapped.

The family friend immediately alerted the police who rushed to the scene but the kidnappers had already fled with the victim.

The media officer to the Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Eyima, confirmed the incident, saying he was informed about the situation but did not have adequate information on what had transpired.

The spokesperson of the Nasarawa Police command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, also confirmed the incident and said that the police is on top of the matter.

He, however, stated that he will not comment further on the issue until proper verification had been done.

Gunmen storm Osun ruler’s palace, kidnap wives, ruler and others die chasing attackers

The police command in Osun has confirmed the kidnap of two wives of a ruler, Oba Ogboni Agbaye and Awise Iwase of Yorubaland, Oba Adetoyese Olakisan, at Imesi-Ile in the Obokun council area of Osun.

Gunmen invaded Mr Olakisan’s residence on Sunday and whisked the women away.

The police said the ruler got into a vehicle to search for his wives, but the vehicle veered off the road and rammed into a tree.

“The Ogboni Agbaye and the policeman in charge of Oke-Imesi, were in the vehicle with another woman when they had the lone accident. They were rushed to the hospital, where they all died later,” stated the police.

“Police operatives are, however, still inside the forest to rescue the kidnapped women.”

The police also confirmed the release of a trader kidnapped by gunmen on Ikirun-Osogbo Road on Friday.

Police spokesperson in the state, SP Yemisi Opalola, told journalists that the kidnappers abandoned their female victim in the bush with the security operatives on their trail.

The police said the victim was going to Ile-Ife from Ilorin when the kidnappers ambushed the vehicle in which she was travelling and that the driver of the vehicle, who managed to escape, alerted the police in Iragbiji town.

Following the report, operatives, with the assistance of local hunters, “swung into action, combed the bushes around the scene and rescued the victim.”

Gunmen kill three NSCDC personnel in Imo

Yet-to-be identified gunmen have allegedly killed three personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Imo State.

The incident which happened at EkeIsu market in Obiangwu Community in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state has thrown the community into panic.

A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the slain corps were attacked in the early hours of Monday.

He said that the NSCDC personnel were riding in a vehicle when they were ambushed and killed by their attackers, while noting that security operatives had taken over the community.

It was gathered that the lifeless bodies of the victims were still at the scene as of the time of filing this report.

The source said;

“Three operatives of the NSCDC were killed last night at EkeIsu market in Obiangwu Community in the Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State. They were ambushed while in their vehicle. Their bodies have not been evacuated as we speak. Soldiers have taken over the community.”

But when contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, who confirmed the killing of the three NSCDC personnel, said security operatives had moved into the community and restored normalcy.

He promised to issue a statement on the incident later.

Gunmen kill two policemen in Enugu during stop-and-search operation

The police command in Enugu has launched a massive manhunt for gunmen who attacked its operatives on a routine stop-and-search duty at Uwani in the Enugu metropolis.

Its spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement on Monday in Enugu that the manhunt had resulted in the gunmen abandoning a black Mercedes Benz ML 350 they used for the operation along Enugu-Port-Harcourt Road.

The statement said the attack took place at Osadebe Stree, Kenyatta Market Enugu, on Sunday, at about 11:30 a.m.

“The armed hoodlums, who came in their numbers and operating in SUVs, suddenly opened fire on the police operatives on routine stop-and-search duty. Many of the hoodlums escaped with varying degrees of fatal gunshot injuries in the ensuing gun duel with the operatives,” the police statement said.

“Two of the police operatives, who sustained severe gunshot injuries were moved to the hospital and they were confirmed dead and their corpses deposited in the mortuary for preservation.”

A manhunt was “immediately launched,” resulting in the gunmen abandoning the black Mercedes Benz ML 350 4Matic SUV they used for the attack, said the command.

The police said the vehicle, riddled with gunshots and blood stains, had been recovered.“The recovery of the vehicle and the signs thereof, corroborates preliminary investigation, which suggests that at least two of the hoodlums were neutralised,” stated the command.

Police commissioner Ahmed Ammani had ordered tactical/operational operatives of the command to sustain the “ongoing manhunt operation,” the statement revealed.

“The CP, therefore, urges citizens of the state and the general public to assist the command with useful information that will aid the speedy arrest of the suspects.

The state police boss also called on residents and owners of medical facilities in particular to report any person or persons, dead or alive, sighted with gunshots injuries to the police,” said the police statement.

Gunmen kidnap teenage girl in Ondo community, demand N10m ransom

Kidnappers have demanded N10m for the release of a 19-year old girl, Adetutu Okibaloye, who was abducted from her home at Imoru in Ose Local Government area of Ondo state.

It was gathered that the girl was with her aunt, Mrs Alaba Oga, when kidnappers numbering around seven gained access into their building on Saturday, March 18, 2023, and whisked her away.

A source told The Nation that the kidnappers used cutlass to inflict injuries on the aunt.

The abductors later called the family to demand payment of N10m as ransom.

Another source said operatives of Ondo Amotekun corps were on the trail of the kidnappers.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Olufumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the abduction stated that the town’s monarch called to inform the DPO at the collation center on Saturday that three people were attacked by gunmen in their home.

While two escaped, the third person, Adetutu Okinbaloye, was taken away, the PPRO added.

Three Ebonyi gunmen killed, lethal weapons seized- Police

The police command in Ebonyi says it killed three and arrested two suspected gunmen.

This is contained in a statement on Wednesday in Abakaliki by the command’s spokesman Onome Onovwakpoyeya.

The police command said it seized two AK-47 rifles, one locally-made pistol, one AK-47 magazine, 30 AK-47 live ammunition, 20 AK-47 expended ammunition and other incriminating items from the alleged gunmen.

“On March 7, at 23.45 hours, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ivo Divisional Headquarters received a distressed call that gunmen were firing sporadically and had set ablaze two vehicles and a filling station. On receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer swung into action and left for the scene,” the police explained.

“While at the scene, information revealed that unknown gunmen were sighted sitting down in a public place at Ogwor community in Ishiagu.”

It added;

“While on their way, the men were ambushed and attacked, and an Assistant Superintendent of Police was shot, but the patrol team engaged the hoodlums with superior firepower. During the gun duel, one of the hoodlums was neutralised, and others fled with bullet wounds.”

According to the statement, the DPO called the headquarters for reinforcement.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sunday Olaleye, intercepted the distress call and immediately directed tactical teams to storm the place with the description of the vehicle and the route through which the hoodlums were escaping,” said the police statement.

“On sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel at Osso junction, where two of the hoodlums were equally neutralised and two arrested.”

Gunmen enforcing sit-at-home order kill one, burn five tricycles and two buses In Enugu

One person was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen enforcing sit-at-home order in Enugu state on Monday, March 6.

Daily Independent reports that two Sienna buses and five tricycles were also burnt during the incident which occurred at Liberty Bus Stop, Abakpa, Enugu.

It was gathered that the gun­men stormed the Liberty Bus Stop in Abakpa at about 5:30a.m and descended on the passenger vehicles that travel to Nsukka and burnt one of the drivers inside the Sienna bus, alive.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said

“The hoodlums stopped the man and asked him to step out of his vehicle. The man resisted and that made the gunmen to open the fuel cover, shot into the tank, making the car to go up in flames with the man inside.

”The state police command is yet to comment on this development.

Gunman returns To Florida murder Scene, kills reporter and a child

A man suspected of killing a woman on Wednesday in Florida returned to the scene of the crime hours later and gunned down a television reporter and a nine-year-old girl, authorities said.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina said that a 19-year-old man, Keith Melvin Moses, had been taken into custody and was believed responsible for the shootings.

The attacks occurred in Pine Hills, a suburb west of Orlando in central Florida.

A 20-year-old woman was slain there at around 11am (1600 GMT), the sheriff’s department said on Wednesday.

A team from Spectrum News 13 arrived hours later to cover the murder, Mina said at an evening news conference.

Shortly after 4pm (2100 GMT) time, Moses arrived and opened fire on a Spectrum camera operator and a reporter as they stood near their vehicle, killing the reporter and wounding the camera operator, the sheriff added.

The gunman then entered a nearby home and shot a woman and her nine-year-old daughter.

The victims were all taken to the hospital, but the girl and the Spectrum News 13 reporter died, Mina said.

Five killed, one kidnapped as gunmen invade Bauchi community

Gunmen suspected to be bandits invaded the Gambar Sabon Layi community in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State and killed five people.

The gunmen stormed the community on Saturday night, January 21, 2023, and shot sporadically into the air to scare residents away before carrying out their nefarious act.

A resident said that the gunmen kidnapped one Mr Daniel and killed the hamlet head of the area and four others.

Gunmen kill PDP leader and four others in Anambra

Five people, including a People Democratic Party (PDP) leader, were reportedly killed by gunmen in Anambra State.

The killings, said to be cult-related, occurred at Obi Maduka’s compound within Nodu town square, Nodu Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government Area of the State on Monday, January 2, 2023.

The four victims were identified as Onyiebo Okoye – aka Onwa, Kenechukwu Okeke – PDP chairman in the area), Jude Ebenezer and Obinna Maduka.

According to a source, who spoke to The Nigerian Tribune, the gunmen arrived the house in a white tinted Toyota Corolla and shot four people who were seated inside the compound.

The gunmen were said to have driven off immediately after killing the four victims. He said the victims have been conveyed to Amaku mortuary by their families after reporting to the Police who came to inspect the incident scene.

It was later revealed that the gunmen had pursued someone into the compound where these victims were seated, and as they did that, they opened fire on the victims who were seated and being entertained by their host.

Another young man identified simply as Nonso, who recently got married was also shot dead on Monday night, in the same Okpuno.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said he was not aware of the incident.

“I don’t have any such report before me. I urge the witnesses of the incident or relatives of the victim to come forward with information that will help police to embark on investigation, please.” he added.

Gunmen abduct retired colonel and two children in Zamfara

A retired colonel, Rabi’u Yandoto, and his two children have been abducted by gunmen along Gusau-Tsafe Road in Zamfara State.

An eyewitness, Mohammed Hassan told Punch that Yandoto was going to his hometown together with his two children on Sunday night when they were ambushed by bandits and taken to the forest.

Hassan said;

“The bandits ambushed the retired colonel on Sunday night and kidnapped him along with his two children and two other victims.

“We heard gunshots and started running into the bush for fear of the bandits but later realised that Colonel Yandoto was their target.”

Punch reported that Yandoto who is the leader of Zamfara All Progressive Congress political group called ‘Wake da Shinkafa’, has reportedly been carrying out campaigns to ensure that close political rival, Senator Kabiru Marafa does not win the 2023 senatorial seat.

Gunmen kill ex-NAF female officer in Plateau

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a retired squadron leader, Mrs. Hellen Godos, in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The gunmen attacked the residence of the deceased in the Dong area of Jos North at about 8:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

The kidnappers shot sporadically into the air to scare residents of the community before proceeding to the residence of the retired squadron leader.

One of the residents of the house who escaped disclosed that some of the kidnappers positioned themselves around the house while four of them forced their way into the building and attempted to abduct the retired squadron leader’s son, which was resisted by the woman.

“In the process of pleading and trying to hold back her son from being kidnapped, one of the kidnappers pulled the trigger and shot the woman at close range. The retired squadron leader died on the spot; another occupant was shot in his leg while the kidnappers went away with the son of the deceased,” the source said.

“After the operation, the kidnappers, who came on motorcycles and in a car, released several gunshots into the air again to aid their escape from the community. The incident caused such serious apprehension and tension that no one could come out of their respective houses one hour after the incident.”

He added that the incident has been reported to the security agencies, adding that, in addition to the report, hunters and vigilantes are presently combing the hills in the area to arrest the perpetrators and rescue the son of the deceased who was kidnapped.

The Media Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Captain Oya James, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased son, who was kidnapped by the gunmen, had been released while the manhunt for the perpetrators continued.

Gunmen attack Imo INEC office, three killed

Gunmen on Monday morning launched an attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Owerri, the Imo State capital. Part of the building was damaged after it was torched by a firebomb.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Abbatam, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said three gunmen were killed while two firebombs were recovered from the scene.

This is happening eight days after an INEC office was attacked in the Orlu Local Government Area of the state.

Suspected hoodlums had similarly torched the commission’s offices in Ebonyi, Osun and Ogun States within the past four weeks, sparking fears that some people were plotting to derail the conduct of the 2023 elections.

The Owerri attack, which was carried out around 3am this morning, was, however, repelled as three of the perpetrators, including their commander, were gunned down.

Also, AK47 rifles and some pump action guns and eight vehicles were recovered from the hoodlums.

An impeccable source said, “This morning, gunmen launched a vociferous attack on the INEC office in Owerri, Imo State but the joint security team was able to repel them and killed three of the attackers, including their commander.

“Seven vehicles were recovered, including seven AK47 and pump action rifles. Many of the gunmen escaped with bullet wounds. But one police vehicle was burned by the hoodlums.”But Abattam said only three AK47 rifles and vehicles were recovered.

He stated,

“We killed three of the attackers and recovered three AK47 rifles and pump action guns. We also recovered two explosives and three of their vehicles.”

It was gathered that security had been beefed up in parts of Owerri, following the incident.

Gunmen abduct corps member and seven others in Abuja

A corps member simply identified as Adenike, and seven others have been abducted by suspected kidnappers in Extension 2 Relocation, along Arab Road, Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Tuesday night, December 6.

Punch reports that Adenike who is currently observing the mandatory National Youth Service, was kidnapped in her father’s home.

A source was quoted as saying that two others escaped while they were being whisked away through the hills by the kidnappers. “Adenike, the landlord’s only daughter who’s currently doing her NYSC has been kidnapped.

We’re confused now because several others are also missing.Seven others were kidnapped alongside Adenike. But two others, among the ten earlier kidnapped, escaped and are safe now.” the source said

The gunmen attacked a residence in the Extension 2 Relocation, along Arab Road, in Kubwa, and shot two males, with one of the gunshot victims dying on the spot, while the other was rushed to the hospital.

The gunmen shot sporadically at Amilonania Street and later moved to Toyin Street.

“We heard gunshots twice when they first stormed a house at Amilonania Street. They’re now at Toyin Street, at the last house by the hill. They shot a tailor, Abel, popularly known as Oshodi, and he’s lying down dead.

They also shot another male, but we have taken him to the Kubwa General Hospital at Phase 4, but he was unconscious. The gunmen escaped through the hill.”

Another source said The FCT police command is yet to comment on this development.

Gunmen allegedly abduct Lagos motorist in broad daylight

There was panic at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, on Tuesday October 25, after masked gunmen allegedly abducted a yet-to-be-identified motorist.

A Twitter user @girllikehelen who shared the story online, said the victim was forced out of his black Toyota Corolla, while on Medical Road, Ikeja.

Reacting to the report, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said;

“I am aware of the situation. It was as narrated on social media. We have commenced investigation; we have leads. But we are not saying much about it so we don’t jeopardise investigation.”

Gunmen invade local government council in Ebonyi, burn documents

Unknown gunmen on Monday, October 10, invaded the Ezza North local government area headquarters and set a section of the building ablaze, destroying valuable items and documents worth millions.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the chairman of the local government, Chief Ogodo Ali Nomeh, said that the arsonists numbering over 20 persons stormed the area around 1:30 am in the morning and proceeded to set ablaze the store of the local government.

He said the arsonists were however resisted by the police who succeeded in inflicting bullet wounds on some of them before their escape.

“The fire destroyed new air conditioners bought for the renovation of the council, some documents and a generating sets and some furniture”, he explained.

The chairman said efforts are being made to apprehend the hoodlums.

Tension as Plateau gunmen kidnap ailing community leader

There was tension on Wednesday across Daika community, Panyam district, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, following the kidnap of a community leader, Mr Gashon Leks.Gason is the elder brother of a former military officer in the locality, Air Vice Marshal Leks (rtd).

Some residents, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, said the incident had been reported to security agents.

One of them, Mathew Chai, said the retired military officer’s brother was at his compound when the kidnappers stormed the village around 10pm on Monday and took him away while scaring residents with gunshots.

Chai said,

“We have not seen the man since he was taken away by the gunmen. The man is into farming and other businesses.

“Since that Monday, nobody knows the whereabouts of the kidnapped victim.

It was this morning (Wednesday) that the kidnappers allowed him to speak with the family members and I learnt that they have yet to demand any ransom.

“There has been disquiet in the community because the man has some health challenges before his kidnap and the villagers are really worried over his whereabouts.”

The spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, denied knowledge of the incident.

He said,

“The matter has not been reported to my office. But I will call the DPO in the area to find out the situation of things regarding the incident and get back to you.”

He had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Gunmen attack Enugu Labour Party meeting

Gunmen suspected to be political thugs have again disrupted a meeting of the Labour Party in Enugu State.

The attack, it was gathered, took place on Saturday at Nomeh Primary School in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.

That was the third time in less than two months that gunmen would be attacking supporters of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the state.

The state chairman of the party, Mr Casmir Agbo, who confirmed the attack to our correspondent on the telephone on Monday, said the party had reported the incident to the appropriate quarters.

“Our members were attacked by gunmen wielding AK-47 rifles in Nomeh Primary School on Saturday,”

he simply said without giving further details.Efforts to get the reaction of the state police command were unsuccessful as the command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, did not take his calls.

A political analyst and social commentator, Charles Ogbu, called on the Nigerian Police Force to live up to the expectations and protect the people.
