Burna Boy bags Grammy nomination for the third time in a row

Nigerian superstar singer, Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has been nominated for another Grammy Award, making it the third time in three years.

The African giant bagged a nomination for the prestigious Grammy Awards in the category of “Best Global Music Performance” for a song titled “Do yourself,” with Angelique Kidjo.

Burna Boy earned his first nomination with “African Giant” album in the “Best World Music Category” in 2020. However, he lost to the legendary Angelique Kidjo.

He went on to bag another nomination with his ‘Twice as Tall’ album in the “Best Global Music Album” category in the 2021 Grammy Awards. He was nominated alongside four others and he won that category giving him his first ever Grammys.

The Recording Academy started broadcasting the nominations live by 6PM West African time on Grammy.com, as well as across their social platforms – Twitter, TikTok and Facebook.

Nigerian singer, Tems bags her first Grammy nomination

Nigerian songstress and musical rave, Temilade Openiyi better known as Tems has been nominated for an award at the 64th annual Grammys.

She earned a nomination for ‘Essence’ with music superstar, Ayodeji ”Wizkid” Balogun and this is her first ever Grammy nomination.

Essence, which is the fourth song from Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos’ album was nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category.

Other nominees in the category include; Femi Kuti, Angelique Kidjo feat Burna Boy, Arooj Aftab and Yo-Yo Ma feat Angelique Kidjo.

The Grammy is an award presented by the Recording Academy to recognize achievement in the music industry of the United States and beyond. Held annually, its trophy depicts a gilded gramophone.

Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ submitted for Grammy nomination

Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” album has been submitted for nomination in the 2022 Grammy Awards.

Made in Lagos which is Wizkid’s fourth studio album was released on October 30, 2020, by Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records.

Billboard, a platform that compiles weekly reports on musical albums in the United States and other countries confirmed on its website that the singer’s work has been submitted for nomination in the “Best Global Music Album” category.

The Billboard wrote: “Wizkid’s Made in Lagos is vying for a nod in the recently renamed best global music album category at the 2022 Grammys.”

Wizkid won his first-ever Grammy award this year with his contribution on Beyonce’s song, Brown Skin Girl.
