Two Nigerians Arrested At Indian Airport With Cocaine Capsules Concealed In Stomach

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested for concealing 167 capsules of cocaine in their stomach at the Mumbai airport in India.

According to India TV on Tuesday, officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said the two passengers were arrested by police after arriving at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport from Lagos via Addis Ababa on Friday.

The DRI officials took them to court and demanded that they be examined by a doctor because they may have hidden drugs in their bodies.

A medical examination confirmed that the two Nigerians were hiding cocaine in their stomachs and that they purged 167 capsules over three days.

According to the DRI official, the capsules contained a total of 2.97 kg of cocaine worth Rs 29.76 crores and the two were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, a court remanded them in judicial custody.

Nigerian student who abandoned school is jailed for smuggling drugs in Cyprus

A Nigerian man identified as Chinedu Ogugua Bosah, has been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for smuggling into the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

In March 2022, Chinedu Ogugua Bosah and Ameer Hussain were arrested in connection with the 1 kilo of cocaine seized during the White Wolf operation in Minareliko’y.

Chinedu was sentenced on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

President Fad’l Aksun, who read the decision, on Wednesday said:

“The legislator prescribes a prison sentence of up to 18 years for the most severe type of case in which the accused is convicted.”

Aksun explained that the drugs imported by the accused are cocaine type and are among the dangerous drugs in Class A. He said Chinedu was just a courier hence the lighter sentence.

Asun said: “The role of the accused before us is that of a courier. As a requirement of this role, the accused is the person who imports the drug subject to the lawsuit himself. Its role should be regarded as primary in terms of import crime.

When evaluating the issue in terms of the crime of saving, we see that the role of the accused is one degree less than those who will earn money from the sale of drugs, and we consider this issue in favor of it.”

Aksun stated that the accused had been wandering around the country like a ghost for almost 7 years without any record.

“The adventure of the accused, which started as a university student in our country, ended in prison after he committed a crime, the accused who has not renewed his university registration since 2015, has not been identified.

“It is understood that the state authority is surprised about basic issues such as how the accused lives in our country, how he earns money, where he stays, and it is only detected by the police after he committed this crime.”

Alleged cocaine deal: Abba Kyari files fresh application seeking to strike out case

The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari has filed a fresh application to strike out the drug trafficking charges preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

In the motion filed by his counsel, Ikpeazu Ikpeazu, he argued that the alleged offense his client is being tried for was committed during a police investigation and the Police Service Commission (PSC) has the authority to discipline the offenders.

He said the five-count charge is similar or related to allegations previously made by the applicants’ Police Service Commission in respect of disciplinary action against police officers and it was for the same subject matter and for the same period.

“This charge against the applicants’ affected the completion of this constitutional procedure.

The application adds that the internal disciplinary action of the Police Service Commission provided by the Constitution against Abba Kyari and other applicants is a condition precedent before they can be charged by any other security agent/agency.

The disciplinary action by the Police Service Commission commenced earnestly and timely.

The applicants had previously answered a query issued to them by the police authority before the charge herein was filed against the applicants.

I know as a fact that the Police Service Commission has through the office of the IGP commenced the disciplinary procedure against the applicants and other defendants prior to the institution of this charge.

Without subjecting the applicants to the police disciplinary procedures that are constitutionally set down, the applicants are charged before the federal high court with counts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 under the NDLEA act and alleged to have committed the offenses in the course of the performance of their duties as police officers.

Failure of the complainant herein to await the disciplinary action against the applicants renders the charge incompetent and deprives this court of jurisdiction to entertain this charge.”the court notice read in part

It added that Abba Kyari and others have not waived their rights under the police disciplinary control which has begun before the instant charge was filed.

Nigerian woman arrested with cocaine worth over N3m nine months after arriving India for her brother’s cancer treatment

A 30-year-old Nigerian woman, Nwafor Onyinye Monica, was arrested with cocaine worth 5.75 lakh in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Inida. Okafor, who came to India nine months ago for her brother’s cancer treatment, was arrested on Saturday, October 1, 2022, near Kanathur toll gate in an affluent neighbourhood off East Coast Road (ECR).

The police also recovered Rs 2.6 lakh cash from her and seized her mobile phone. According to police, a team led by inspector Saravanan of Pallikaranai PEW (Prohibition and Enforcement Wing), one of three formed by the Tambaram City police to crack down on peddling of drugs in their jurisdiction, was keeping vigil along ECR and OMR based on a tip when they noticed the woman getting off an autorickshaw and handing over a small parcel to another person.

When she was intercepted and gave contradictory answers during questioning, she was detained and a search of her baggage found 72 small packets of cocaine.

Police said investigations revealed that after her brother went back to Nigeria following his cancer treatment, Onyinye took an apartment at a complex in Velachery for rent and began peddling narcotic drugs including cocaine.

A questioning of some of her neighbours at the complex showed that several people visited her flat at odd hours including late at night.

“She procured cocaine from another Nigerian national in Mumbai, paying 2,000 for a gram and selling it for 5,000,” said an investigating officer, based on the woman’s confession statement.

Police are probing if she was part of a huge network of cocaine smugglers.

The woman was produced before a magistrate who sent her to jail.

NDLEA uncovers cocaine, heroin in Anambra monarch’s palace

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State, have uncovered various quantities of cocaine and heroin stashed in the palace of a ruler in the state.

In a statement on Monday, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Muhammadu Misbahu Idris, said 58.5 grams of cocaine and 13.9 grams of heroin were concealed in the palace of the traditional ruler.

Although the statement did not give details of the monarch, it noted that security operatives at the palace were helping to trace the owners of the consignment.

“Investigations are ongoing to unravel how the illicit drugs were hidden in the palace and the palace security guards are helping in tracing the dealer behind the consignment,” Idris said.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA spokesman in the state, Odigie Charles, who did not also disclose further details on the issue, said the command would forward the report on the operation to its headquarters, as demanded by the new regime in NDLEA.

However, another source claimed the monarch involved in the case was the Igwe of Obosi.

“The drugs were recovered from his palace. We are still investigating his link to the consignment while the dealer said to be the owner is on the run. There is a manhunt for him at the moment,” the source said.

Obosi is a hilly area bordered by Onitsha to the North-West, Nkpor to the North-East and Oba to the South-East. Sources said apart from Nnewi, it is the biggest town in Anambra State.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA Lagos command, said its officials also arrested a suspected drug trafficker, Hassan Bishi Taiwo, with three parcels of cocaine in a false bottom in his suitcase.

He was intercepted at the E-arrival hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at the weekend.

Taiwo was arrested after he alighted from an Ethiopian Airlines flight at 1.30m on Friday, the agency’s spokesman Femi Babafemi, said on Monday.

Speaking on the developments, the Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the commanders and officers involved in the operations for their vigilance and charged them to continue with the vigour of the offensive action maxim of the new leadership of the anti-drug agency.

A lady was left feeling embarrassed after federal authorities found several substances that looked like cocaine hidden in her wig cap in an airport. A female law enforcement agent tore the wig cap on the woman’s hair after removing her wig to reveal several wraps of drugs on the woman’s hair.

To protect her image, the woman covered her face with her hands as some of the law enforcement agents who apprehended her took pictures of her and the drugs while others recorded as the drugs were being removed from her wig cap.

In most countries, drug smugglers get a prison or death sentence if caught. Most countries have law enforcement agencies stationed at various seaports and airports to thwart the operation of drug smugglers.

NDLEA arrests Brazil returnee with 3.30kg of cocaine at Lagos airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker with 3.30 kilograms of cocaine in Lagos.

The suspect, Ukaegbu Bright Onyekachi, was arrested by NDLEA at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, shortly after he arrived from Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The NDLEA Commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba, who disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday, said the suspects who arrived in the country aboard the Ethiopian Airways concealed the drug in T-shirt stickers but was caught by the agency operatives during the inward clearance of passengers at the airport’s arrival hall.

He said: “The hard drug was cleverly concealed in T-shirt stickers. But the suspect was nabbed by eagle-eyed NDLEA detectives.”
