N’Korean leader,Jong Un, orders starving citizens to eat less food until 2025

North Korea has warned its citizens that they must expect to eat less food until the country re-opens its border with China in 2025.

Its leader, Kim Jong Un, known for strict and peculiar antics for the country gave the directive, which is already seen as far from normal.

Although food shortages are already affecting North Koreans, the country’s leader told its citizens to tighten their belts for at least another three years.

According to reports, citizens of the Asian country have already complained that shortages would make it difficult to see themselves through the winter, let alone multiple years.

The country had closed its border with China in January 2020 as a precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus.

However, the action is having a serious impact on the nation’s economy – with prices of everyday goods rising sharply as demand outstripped supply.

But despite the current hardships the North Korean people are facing, their leader Kim has continued to push the idea of self-reliance since this year.

Authorities in the country had blamed external factors for their food shortages, citing sanctions imposed on them, natural disasters, and the global coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, reports have it that residents of the city of Sinuiju, said they have been warned that the chances of reopening the border with China before 2025 were slim.

‘The food situation right now is already clearly an emergency, and the people are struggling with shortages. When the authorities tell them that they need to conserve and consume less food until 2025… they can do nothing but feel great despair,” a report by Daily Mail quoted them to have said.

This message was further encouraged in July when the Central Committee instructed the public to begin growing their crops in anticipation of shortages.

However, with the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimating that North Korea is short around 860,000 tons of food this year, the Sinuiju residents said contempt is growing among the people.

The continued sanctions and blockade on the DPRK, severe natural disasters that hit the country every year and the protracted world health crisis since 2020 are main obstacles to the Government’s efforts to achieve the sustainable development of the country and improve the people’s livelihood,” an FAO report read.

Last year, North Korea suffered severe flooding which damaged vital crops and left hundreds of families without homes. This year, crops were also damaged by droughts and subsequent flooding.

In August, heavy rains in northeastern North Korea destroyed or flooded 1,170 houses and forced 5,000 residents to evacuate to safety, North Korea’s state TV reported.

The downpour in South Hamgyong Province washed away hundreds of hectares of farmlands and destroyed many bridges. Footage showed houses submerged up to their red-brick roofs, a severed bridge over muddy water, and a swollen river.

IPOB alleges plot by security agencies to attack citizens in SE on Monday

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), on Sunday, alleged that it has uncovered a scheme by security agencies, especially the Department of States (DSS) and the police to disguise as IPOB and ESN operatives to attack traders who come out tomorrow (Monday) for their legitimate business.

According to the group, “Security agencies have perfected plans to unleash attacks on innocent people in the name of ESN and IPOB volunteers. We have no plans again to enforce any sit-at-home order.

“The Nigeria security agents are to be held accountable for any attack tomorrow on innocent Biafrans. Our people should resist any attempt by anybody to attack them tomorrow.”

This was contained in a statement issued by the IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful.

He added, “We, therefore want to put the world especially residents of Biafra land that IPOB has since two weeks ago suspended its initially declared Monday sit-at-home order. It, therefore, makes no sense that we will at the same time be enforcing the suspended order”.

He restates that there is no longer Ghost Mondays in the South-east in solidarity with the detained leader of the group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, stating that, “Sit-at-home will only be observed on the days our leader will be making appearances in court. Such days will be well publicised ahead of time.

Everybody is hereby placed on alert about this wicked plot. IPOB will not tolerate any attack on any Biafran or resident of Biafra under any guise. People should be allowed to go about their businesses without any molestation or harassment.”

Arteta hints at Manchester City stay for ‘happy’ Guardiola despite Citizens boss not yet signing new contract

The Arsenal manager worked alongside the Spaniard at Etihad Stadium and has seen nothing to suggest that he is preparing to leave

Mikel Arteta has suggested that Pep Guardiola could stay as Manchester City manager beyond the summer of 2021, saying the Citizens boss is still looking “really happy” in his current role.

As things stand, the highly-rated coach will be bidding farewell to Etihad Stadium at the end of the current campaign. No fresh terms have been agreed with the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager.

Guardiola has remained coy when quizzed on his future, with some suggesting that he will walk away if Champions League glory once again proves elusive at City.

Arteta, who spent three years working alongside the Premier League title winner in Manchester, claims to have seen nothing to suggest that a parting of ways is on the cards.

The Arsenal boss told reporters when quizzed on Guardiola ahead of a meeting between the Gunners and City on Saturday: “It’s up to him. The last time I heard an interview he was still really happy there and he was talking about the future, some of the signings they have done recently they are really young players so I don’t know. I just want to see him happy.”

Arteta has already got one over on his former coaching mentor since taking the reins at Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal downing City en route to claiming FA Cup glory in 2019-20.

The Spaniard admits that he is well placed to lock tactical horns with one of the best in the business, but is not convinced that he boasts a major advantage over others.

“I know him really well because we worked together for four years and very closely. We both know how we think and the solutions that can be made,” said Arteta. “After is to try to prevent them executing on the football pitch when everything is going a hundred miles an hour which is very difficult, much more difficult than just on tactics boards.”

While acknowledging the size of the challenge that Arsenal face in their upcoming fixtures, Arteta is looking forward to seeing how a buoyant Gunners side tackle them.

He added: “The fixtures at Manchester City and Liverpool are, I think, getting really tough.

“The fixtures we have in the next few weeks will be really difficult. We know the opponent we are facing. We know the level we have to be individually and collectively to beat them.

“We haven’t had much time to prepare the game all together but we’ll try to go to Manchester to win the game. We have to be at a really top level individually and collectively to beat them.”
