Femi Fani-Kayode hospitalised after DSS grilling – Lawyer claims during forgery trial

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode’s trial for alleged forgery was stalled on Monday, February 20, as he was absent when the case was brought up before the Lagos State  Special Offences Court in Ikeja.

Femi Fani-Kayode is standing trial for allegedly presenting false documents, fabricating evidence and procuring execution of documents before an Ikeja Special Offences Court.

He is accused of tendering forged medical report before Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos, where he is being prosecuted for alleged N4.9bn fraud.

During the resumed trial on Monday, the former Minister’s lawyer, Wale Balogun told the court that his client has been hospitalized after a “running battle” with the DSS and police.

Balogun said;

“We regret to announce to your lordship that the defendant is not in court due to health reasons, and secondly due to a running battle he has with both the DSS and the police.

“Since the last time we were here, the defendant has been reporting every day at the DSS, and while he was doing this, the Nigeria Police invited him.

“Since we left here at the last date, he has not been able to have peace of mind, and that has affected his health.

“On the 16th, he was at the hospital and on Saturday he was also readmitted at the National Hospital.

“Even now as we speak, he is also there, and based on this it has become imperative to seek your lordship’s indulgence not only to vacate today, but the other days, 21 and 22.

“We humbly apply that those days be vacated to enable him resolve those issues.”

The lawyer said he had shared some documents with the prosecution in that regard.

Responding to this, the EFCC prosecuting counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, said;

“The defence counsel this morning, shared with us two documents; one is a medical report and another from the Nigeria Police.

“In the circumstance, we leave the decision to the discretion of the court.”

After listening to the lawyers, Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe, adjourned the case till May 24 and 25 for continuation of trial.

Fani-Kayode dares Gov Matawalle to name, shame those behind abductions

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has implored the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle to unveil the identities of those behind the abduction of over 300 students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Jangebe.

Fani-Kayode made this call in a series of tweets on Monday, March 1.

This was in response to the statement made by Matawalle, saying Nigerians would be shocked to know the people behind the abduction of the girls.

Ripples Nigeria had reported that Matawalle stated this on Sunday when 17 Emirs in the state paid him a sympathy visit over the abduction of the schoolgirls.

He said, “As we await the arrival of the released kidnapped students of GSSS Jangebe at the Government House today, I want to inform you that there are many revelations in relation to the abduction of these students.”

Many people will be surprised to hear those people behind the abduction of these innocent children.”

“They are not comfortable with the progress I am getting as a result of my peace initiative and they want to do all they can to sabotage my efforts”.

However, Fani-Kayode said: “I have known Matawalle for years and we are close. I trust him and I have respect and affection for him.

“When he says if people knew who those behind the kidnappings in his Zamfara state are it would rock the nation he has spoken the bitter truth. It’s time to name and shame those people!”, he stated.

The attack on GGSS Jangede occurred on Friday, and over 300 girls were abducted, while seven of the girls escaped while they were being taken into the bush.

The attack occurred almost two weeks after bandits abducted 27 students and 15 workers of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State.

Fani-Kayode Set To ‘Dump PDP For APC’.

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, is reportedly set to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) six years after he left for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This was after meeting with the Chairman, Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, and Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello at a Guest House in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted for about an hour, may not be unconnected with the alleged plans for the return of the former Minister to APC.
