We are not behind insecurity in Imo – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Imo State has rejected statement credited to the state government on the growing insecurity in the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government had alleged that PDP was behind the attack on innocent people and facilities in the state.

However, in a statement issued by its Acting Publicity Secretary in the state, Mazi Emenike Nmeregini, noted that it would no longer entertain such accusations by the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, and his aides.

The party threatened to sue the state government if it does not desist from such act.

PDP declared that its leaders are law-abiding and responsible citizens who cannot engage in action capable of putting he lives of innocent people of the state in danger.

The statement read: “The unsigned press releases were evidently sponsored by Senator Hope Uzodinma-led APC government to build trumped-up charges against the leaders of the major opposition party in the state, the PDP in order to intimidate, oppress and silence them from holding his unpopular administration accountable to the people of Imo State and to conceal his gross incompetence.

“The persistent horrendous state of insecurity in Imo leading to serial bloodbaths clearly shows a dripping lack of capacity on the part of APC government led by Uzodinma to guarantee safety and security of lives and property of Imo people, instructive of the tragic level of Uzodinma’s unpreparedness to govern the State.

Deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation in the state, our party had in June this year advised Uzodinma to step down as governor given his evident weakness to manage the security crisis.

“Instead of recognising the well-based advice as a wake-up call, the government has since resorted to high-handedness, name-calling, blackmail, witch-hunting, and hawking of fake, malicious, and mischievous allegations such as the ones that prompted their statement against the PDP.”

APC announces new timeline for state congresses

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced an updated timetable for its activities in the forthcoming state congresses scheduled to commence on October 16.

This was contained in a statement issued by Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, the National Secretary of the APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) on Thursday in Abuja.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Article 11:A sub-section (i-xiii), and Article 17(i) of our party’s Constitution.

“The CECPC of our great party has approved the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of Congresses across States in the federation to elect party officials,” he said.

The APC scribe further stated that the purchase of forms for the State Congresses which commenced on Wednesday (Sept. 15) would end on Monday (Oct. 11), while screening of aspirants for State executives would be on Oct. 13 and 14.

He said the State Congresses would hold on Saturday (Oct. 16), while appeals arising from the exercise would be from Oct. 23 to 30.

“On the cost of nomination forms, aspirants for the position of State Chairman will purchase forms at the cost of N100,000. Deputy State Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer aspirants will pay N50,000.

“Aspirants for the position of Senatorial Chairmen are to purchase forms at N50,000; Senatorial Youth Leader N30,000 and other offices N30,000.

“Female and physically challenged aspirants are to pay 50 per cent of the prescribed fees for each position,” he said.

Ripples Nigeria had reported that the APC CECPC at its 17th regular meeting on Sept. 29, considered and adopted the Local Government Areas (LGAs) Congresses reports.

The committee assured that it would look into any areas where there were disputes.

It also directed that the conduct of the State Congresses shall proceed on Oct. 16 across the federation, while Zamfara and Anambra States were exempted.

‘IPOB behind attacks on APC, APGA in Anambra,’ says Sanwo-Olu’s aide, Joe Igbokwe

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, on Tuesday blamed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for the twin attack on the party and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship campaigners in Anambra State.

Gunmen had on Sunday killed four persons and injured four others during the APC governorship campaign rally at Uruagu, Nnewi area of the state.

The hoodlums also set ablaze a Hilux truck belonging to a leader of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo Campaign team, Dr. Nelson Omenugha.

Omenugha, who is the son of a serving commissioner in the state, managed to escape unhurt from the attack.

Although the police has not linked the incident to any group or individual, Igbokwe who has been at loggerheads with IPOB and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, took to his Facebook page on Tuesday and accused the group of masterminding the attacks.

Igbokwe is also the Special Assistant on Drainage and Sewage to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He wrote: “When we say that IPOB is PDP, you will think that we are joking.

“FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT, LET ME REPORT TO YOU OFFICIALLY THAT IPOB & ESN TERRORISTS HAVE TAKEN OVER SOUTH-EAST AND THE GOVERNORS, LEADERS, AND STAKEHOLDERS ARE TOTALLY HELPLESS.”

APC accuses Anambra govt of corruption, charges EFCC to probe state’s finances

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the Anambra State finances in a bid to uncover monumental corruption in the state.

The APC Chairman in the state, Chief Basil Ejidike, made the call in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Chief Dan Okeke, in Awka.

The party accused the Anambra government of fraudulent use of its monthly security vote totaling several billions of Naira.

The statement read: “Anambra as a state has not recorded significant growth and development since the inception of Governor Willy Obiano’s leadership. To maintain existing developmental structures in the state remains unattainable.”

The party challenged the government to give account of all funds meant for development of the state in its control.

APC challenged the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to face the business of governance and stop name-calling

The statement added: “Development has neither been visible nor felt by the people of Anambra.

“We urge APGA to focus on its campaign and leave APC alone.

“Harassing the State House of Assembly members who left APGA for APC is a distraction for the party; proferring solutions to APGA’s internal problems should be paramount to its leadership.”

‘APC will not rule Nigeria beyond 2023,’ PDP tells Sheriff

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday knocked the former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, for claiming that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would rule Nigeria for the next 40 years.

Sheriff had said on Sunday the APC needed a rugged chairman to manage its affairs ahead of the 2023 election.

The former governor, who addressed journalists in Abuja, added that the party would rule the country for the next 30 to 40 years.

However, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said Nigerians are determined in their resolve not to allow the APC to rule Nigeria beyond May 29, 2023.

The statement read: “Ali Modu Sheriff must know that Nigerians are aware of the desperate plots by the APC and its members that are behind acts of terrorism, banditry, treasury looting, violation of rights and electoral manipulations in our country, to continue to enjoy official cover using the APC as a platform for their reprehensible activities.

“Nigerians have decided to kick out the APC in the 2023 general election and no amount of manipulations or evil machination can sway that resolve to ensure that the APC does not stay a day beyond May 29, 2023.

“The PDP, therefore, has nothing but pity for Ali Modu Sheriff and his co-travelers as the conspiracies against our dear nation will surely come to naught.”

APC govs forum condemns Gumi’s amnesty appeal for bandits

The appeal by a renowned Islamic cleric, Shiekh Ahmad Gumi for the Federal Government to grant amnesty to bandits continues to elicit strong reactions from political observers as the PGF has issued a rejoinder.

In its scathing critique issued on Friday, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) via its Director-General, Dr. Salihu Lukman, queried the rationale behind the appeal of Gumi for the bandits calling it ‘a threat to national security.’

The statement issued by Lukman titled: “Nigerian democracy and challenges of nation-building,” also faulted Gumi’s comparison of bandits in the north with Niger Delta militants.

According to the PFG, the conditions which surrounded the amnesty granted to the Niger Delta militants differ from the bandits.

An excerpt from the statement reads, “All arms of the security agencies are fully mobilised and are working in a coordinated way to crush the bandits in Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna forests. Interestingly, however, some Nigerian leaders have dismissed the military campaign going on to crush the bandits.

“So-called media commentators, religious and other leaders have discredited decisions of government to shut down communication services, markets, etc. in the states where the military operations are taking place. A religious leader has already proclaimed that the military operations against the bandits will fail.

What a jaundiced view. Maybe Nigeria should return to the era when hundreds of millions meant for arms procurement to fight insurgency, banditry, and other criminality will be diverted and given to religious leaders for prayers.

“Instead of mobilising security agencies to fight the criminals, resources being deployed to fight insecurity in the country should be given to religious leaders to pray for the bandits to come back to their senses.

“This is perhaps what Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is preaching when he insists that government should grant amnesty to bandits in the North just the way the administration of late President Umaru Yar’Adua handled Niger Delta militants.

“Nigerians need to rise to the challenge of regulating the conduct of so-called leaders, including religious clerics.

“Nigerians cannot be facing the challenge of insecurity and some leaders are working to undermine the efforts of the government to crush the criminal elements responsible for all the pains citizens are going through, including the loss of lives of citizens.

“Anytime leaders dismiss actions of the government against bandits and insurgents, they embolden these criminals to continue with their nefarious activities.”

Without Buhari, APC will lose in 2023 – Gov Fintiri

The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri said on Thursday the All Progressives Congress (APC) would lose the 2023 presidential election without President Muhammadu Buhari on the ballot.

Fintiri, who featured in the Channels Television programme, Politics Today, insisted that Nigerians are hoping on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rescue the country from the APC-induced hardship in two years’ time.

He said: “I think at the moment, you can choose between the wrong and the right. The right thing to do is to go with the PDP.

That is the party Nigerians believe in. It is the party that has given them the right thing that they deserve.

“I think we have steered the affairs of this country differently from what is happening today. So, the PDP is on top gear to make sure that we take over power in 2023.

“Afterall, APC is built around one person. APC is built around the capacity and integrity of Mr. President. That is all they have.

“He is not contesting in 2023. So, he will not be able to use his integrity to bring in somebody and moreso Nigerians are suffering.”

Rivers APC boils, as Amaechi, Abe trade words again

The crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to deepen following a renewed war of words between Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and former Senator representing Rivers South-East district in the National Assembly, Magnus Abe.

The first shot was fired by Abe at the inauguration of a socio-political pressure group, the Rivers Voice of Freedom, on Sunday, when he accused Amaechi of trying to push him and his supporters out of the APC.

“I am one of the founders of the party and I am one of the leaders of the party in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Nobody can take that away; If you have contributed, you have contributed. All of us here have contributed. Without us, there would have been no APC in this state,” Abe said.

Also speaking on the party’s local government congress held in the state on Saturday, Abe said:

“You are aware of the current activities going on in the party. You are aware that we have been excluded by those powers that be within the state, led by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who deliberately took the decision to push us out of the party.

Push all of you out of the party for no other reason than because you associate with Senator Magnus Abe. I am happy that you continue to associate with me. I will also continue to associate with you.

Those who do not want to see me, when they hear the name Senator Abe; they cannot sleep, when they hear Senator Abe, they are worried, you have taken congress and you are still worried, let me assure you that even in your dream you will still see Abe.

“I am not going anywhere. This is Rivers state and we will play politics in Rivers state. If you don’t know the rules of the game, go and learn the rules of the game.”

In a swift reaction, Amaechi, in a brief statement issued by the the state APC spokesman, Ogbonna Nwuke, advised the former Senator to move on like Amaechi has done, pointing out that the party’s local government congress which held on Saturday was quite successful, but that Abe chose not to take part, but would rather go to court.

“We would like Senator Abe should just move on like Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has done. That is the mark of great men.

We don’t need his obsession with the Minister. He should stop his politics of bad-bellicking as it is doing him no good.”

APC approves inauguration of ward executives, holds local govt congresses September 4

The All Progress Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has approved the immediate inauguration of ward executives elected during the party’s recent ward congresses.

The Secretary of the CECPC, John Akpanudoedehe, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, said the decision was taken during the committee’s 16th meeting held on Wednesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The statement read: “The All Progressives Congress Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee ratifies and adopts the results of the party’s nationwide Ward Congresses held on Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Accordingly, the CECPC approves the immediate inauguration of Ward Executives by state caretaker committees.”

The party also announced that the local government congresses would hold across the country on September 4.

“The CECPC hereby directs that the conduct of nationwide Local Government Congresses proceeds accordingly by Saturday, September 4th, 2021, as contained in the official timetable/schedule of activities released by the party,” it added.

2023: Like PDP, APC zones governorship ticket to Niger South

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State has zoned the party’s 2023 governorship ticket to the southern part of the state.

The Special Adviser on Politics and Strategy to the Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Kolo, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Minna.

Kolo said that the deputy governorship ticket was zoned to Niger East.

He dismissed claims that Governor Sani Bello had anointed a candidate to succeed him in 2023.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had also zoned its governorship ticket to Niger South.

The governor’s aide said: “On the zoning arrangement, the APC caucus on July 3, unanimously agreed to allow Zone A (Niger South), to produce the next gubernatorial candidate of our party.”

Kolo also revealed that all positions in the APC executive council in the state would be reshuffled during the state’s party congress in a bid to achieve the objective of the zoning arrangement.

He added: “All the party positions currently held by Niger East will go to Niger North and those occupied by Niger North will be reversed to Niger-South.”

Kolo said the state government had mapped out strategies for smooth and robust transition programme in two years’ time.

“This will afford all the members of the party a level playing field as the countdown to 2023 begins.

“This administration wants to ensure that everybody is given a level playing field without victimising any party faithful.

We want to give power back to the people, let them decide who they want to preside over their affairs. This is what we have decided to do as true democrats,” he concluded.

APC is no different from a terrorist organization –Deji Adeyanju

Popular activist and staunch government critic, Deji Adeyanju, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a terrorist organization as it has continued to pamper and show empathy to known terrorists.

Adeyanju took to his Twitter on Monday to criticize the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government and the ruling party over its management of the country’s numerous problems, especially in the area of security.

“To those saying APC & PDP are the same, why not let us try another #BringBackOurGirls under Buhari if soldiers will not kill everyone at Unity Fountain like they did at Lekki Tollgate.

Yes, PDP is beyond useless but APC is a terrorist organization. PDP are saints compared to APC.

After all, we have witnessed more than 60 abductions like Chibok under Buhari, why is everyone afraid to give him the kind of treatment we all gave GEJ?

“All of a sudden, everyone love their lives under Buhari. Nobody is patriotic anymore, including journalists.

“Was this how we were pampering GEJ? No Govt since 1999 has been this useless and evil, yet everyone is afraid to oppose the Govt.”, he tweeted.

APC dismisses PDP’s claim on alleged plan to rig 2023 elections

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday described as baseless the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) claim on the alleged plan by the ruling party to rig the 2023 general elections.

The PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, had on Sunday accused the APC of plotting to rig the elections after the National Assembly gave conditional approval for electronic transmission of election results in the country.

He said the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has no plan to organize free and free elections in the country.

The National Secretary of APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee, John Akpanudoedehe, who reacted to the allegation in a statement in Abuja, said the PDP had already conceded defeat before the 2023 elections.

Akpanudoedehe said: “The idle conspiracies and wild allegations being bandied by the PDP on the procurement of e-voting machines and plans to rig the 2023 elections are clear testimonies that the PDP has already conceded election defeat long before the 2023 electioneering process.”

He noted that the PDP had since resorted to several diversionary strategies just to remain in public reckoning.

He listed the recent case filed against the APC national caretaker leadership which had been dismissed by courts as one of the few strategies adopted by the major opposition party to remain relevant in the nation’s space.

Akpanudoedehe, however, assured Nigerians that the party has no plan to rig the 2023 elections.

He added: “Our latest victory is the by-election for the House of Representatives seat in Lere Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.

“Going by PDP’s past and current antecedents, it is obvious that Nigerians will continue to reject the party.

PDP’s rejection is further reinforced by APC’s widely accepted and hugely successful membership registration exercise which has recorded APC membership strength of over 40 million.”

APC suspends chairman in Adamawa for allegedly insulting Buhari in leaked audio clip

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Adamawa State has suspended the party’s chairman in Yola South local government area of the state, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, for allegedly insulting President Muhammadu Buhari on social media.

Adamu was heard on a viral audio clip saying it would have been better if COVID-19 had killed Buhari.

He also described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a better President for Nigeria.

The APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Mohammed Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the party got the audio clip, called an emergency State Working Committee (SWC) meeting where it was replayed and discussed by party members.

He said the committee had set up a seven-man disciplinary committee to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the chairman.

Abdullahi said: “At the end, it was observed that some of the words in the audio clip were most unfortunate and required further investigation.

“Consequently, a seven-man disciplinary committee has been set up by the State Working Committee to investigate the issues in the audio clip and to make appropriate recommendations for action.”

Why APC is afraid of e-transmission of election results – Delta commissioner

The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, said on Monday the All Progressives Congress (APC) rejected the electronic transmission of election results over the fear of losing the 2023 general elections.

Aniagwu stated this in Asaba while briefing journalists on the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.

He stressed that Nigerians would never make the mistake of voting for APC in 2023.

The commissioner said politicians kicking against the electronic transmission of election planned to rig the 2023 election.

According to him, electronic transmission of results will ensure free and fair elections in the country and guide against interception and snatching of results at collation centres.

Aniagwu said: “Delta representatives in the National Assembly that voted against electronic transmission of election results did that for their own selfish desire and not the aspiration of Deltans.

APC is scared of electronic transmission of results because of its government’s abysmal failure in the last six years. Those kicking against electronic transmission of results are planning to rig election.

” Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has directed all government appointees to go back to their communities and mobilise their people to participate in the Continuous Voters Registration.

“Our people are not taking the advantage of the exercise, and therefore, the governor ordered all appointees to mobilise their people for the ongoing registration.

“Voters need to be educated because civil education in Nigeria is still low. So the governor also directed all state-own media houses to give the INEC free charge.”

‘APC to take over South-East soon,’ says ex-Senate President, Nnamani

Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, on Saturday expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take over the South-East soon.

The ex-Senate President disclosed this to journalists shortly after supervising the ward congress at Ward 2, Enugu South local government area of Enugu State.

He said the mass participation of APC members in the exercise showed that the people have confidence in democracy.

Nnamani, who is a member of the APC National Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, advised party members to continue in the same spirit and ensure that the party take its rightful place in the South-East ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He said: “The major target is for APC to be the most dominant political party in the South-East.

“Gradually we are getting there especially with the solid foundation we have laid at the ward levels of the party now.”

The APC chieftain thanked party members in Enugu state for hitch-free ward congresses in the state.

Nnamani added: “It is only in APC that you see this type of peace and cooperation among party members.”

Aregbesola’s loyalists kick as APC adopts consensus option in Osun

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State on Saturday rejected the adoption of consensus leaders across the 332 wards in the state.

The members, who are loyalists of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, alleged that they were excluded from the process.

The exercise went smoothly in the 35 wards of the Osun West Senatorial District as APC members who were led by one Barr. Gbadegesin Adedeji adopted the consensus option in the election of ward executives.

However, the former Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Najeem Salam, insisted that the executives were imposed on party members.

Salam, who is one of Aregbesola’s loyalists in Osun State, alleged that there was a political crisis in the state.

He said: “The national caretaker committee does not set up the ward congress committee. The government in power has been cajoling people, harassing party members that are not in support of what they are doing within the party.

Unfortunately, those that came to the state for sales of form are incommunicado. We only saw it online that they came for stakeholders’ meetings. People like me and some other eminent persons in the party were not involved.

“How would you know the stakeholders? Why would people that want to go to an election against another party in 2022 be afraid of the election within the party?

“With what the present administration is doing with the issue of ward congress, it seems they are not ready for the election in 2022.”

However, the Chairman of the APC National Congress Committee, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said the exercise went well.

“Members conducted themselves in a very free and fair atmosphere; officers were elected in our presence. We saw pure consensus. They all agreed that these are the officers we want to handle the affairs of the party in our wards. There is no crisis about that,” he said.

Also, the state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, said the congresses were very peaceful across the state.

Tinubu hale, hearty, aide dispels reports of APC leader’s hospitalisation

With speculations rife about the health of Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) a disclaimer has been issued by his aide to dispel the reports.

According to some media reports, Tinubu had been hospitalised in the United States where he underwent some surgeries due to his health.

However, a statement issued on Saturday by Tunde Rahman, Media Adviser to Tinubu noted that the APC leader “is hale and hearty. He is not in any hospital. He has no medical problem that would require hospitalization. Yes, he is out of the country at the moment. He will be back shortly.”

Rahman further berated “some mischievous people” who always attribute Tinubu’s foreign trips to ill-health.

Anytime he travels out of the country, the next thing some mischievous people would say is he is sick, hospitalized or has died.

“It is shameful that perpetrators of this evil are not deterred by the fact that each time this fake news has been propagated, they have been proven wrong.

“Who really is afraid of Asiwaju Tinubu? Those wishing Asiwaju Tinubu evil or dead should be careful. They should know the matter of life and death is in the hand of only God Almighty”, he stated.

APC adopts consensus method for Osun congress

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee in Osun State, Prince Gboyega Famodun, said on Friday party stakeholders have adopted consensus method for the ward congress in the state.

The ruling party will conduct its ward congresses in the 36 states of the federation on Saturday.

Famodun, who addressed APC members at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, said the party leaders in all the 332 wards in Osun have promised to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

He said: “As recommended by the National Secretariat we have adopted consensus in Osun for the purpose of the smooth running of the party. “Things have been properly done and our homework has been done properly. Our fathers and leaders have scrutinised the 332 wards that we have in Osun. We have concluded the exercise that will lead us to a very good congress tomorrow (Saturday).”

APC adopts consensus option for congresses in Borno

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Borno State have unanimously adopted consensus option in the election of party officials at all levels in the state.

The decision taken during the party’s critical stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

The state Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, moved a motion for the adoption of consensus for the ward congresses and this was seconded by one Abdu Musa.

The motion, thereafter, was put to voice-vote where all the stakeholders including members of National and State Assemblies as well as local council chairmen unanimously adopted the motion.

In his address, Governor Babagana Zulum urged members of the party to observe and adhere strictly to the APC rules and regulations to guide the conduct of the congresses.

Zulum decried how non compliance with the party’s rules and regulations in some states resulted in litigations that affected its chances in the previous general elections.

He urged members to shun acts capable of threatening the unity of the party in the state.

In his remarks, a former governor of the state, Maina Ma’aji, who was also at the meeting, described consensus as the best method that would further unite and make the party strong in the state.

He said the stakeholders were satisfied and convinced that there was no desire by the governor or the APC national leadership to impose their interest or candidate on the party in the state.

Other APC stakeholders in Borno State that attended the meeting were former governor Kashim Shettima and the Chairman of Senate Committee on the Army, Ali Ndume, among others.
