Actor Tom Cruise forced to hire heavyweight bodyguards after string of death threats from former employee

American actor and producer, Tom Cruise has reportedly hired a security team after he and director Christopher McQuarrie received a series of threats from a former employee.

The A-list actor, 60, and the Mission: Impossible filmmaker, 53, acquired the services of the security team after a stunt producer was let go, which led to ‘angry protests’ and ‘fears of further reprisals,’ The Sun reported.

An insider with the film told the outlet, ‘Tom and Chris are still working on Mission: Impossible 8, mostly in the UK, but things have got increasingly unpleasant with a former crew member and now it’s a case of taking no chances.’

‘It’s a bit of art imitating life, on set it’s all about heavy protection and threats and now the same thing is going on behind the cameras.’

According to the outlet, the employee had been assigned to find filming locations for scenes – including one depicting a train crash – but his plans were not put into motion in the film.

The Top Gun: Maverick leading man ‘is used to having security teams around him most of the time because of his fame,’ the insider said, ‘but for Chris it’s a very new thing,’ as ‘nobody is taking any chances.’

The employee who was let go has began litigation toward Cruise, McQuarrie, and Paramount Studios, the outlet reported, and has made accusations about Russian oligarchs financing Cruise’s work and a related FBI investigation into Paramount over the financing.

The source noted that while ‘it’s all turned very n*sty … those involved in the films are confident everything is totally fine, he’s just an angry ex-staff member.’

I once thanked a fan who slapped me – Actor, Lateef Adedimeji

Popular Nigerian actor, Lateef Adedimeji, has revealed how he reacted after a fan slapped him out of excitement.

Speaking to Sunday Scoop, the movie star recounted that the female fan who was excited to see him, gave him a slap and although he was initially angry, he ended up thanking her .

In his words; “Out of excitement, a fan suddenly gave me a ‘hot’ slap. She said, ‘Oh my God! Lateef Adedimeji’. I moved back in anger and saw her smiling. I just had to say ‘thank you’. I had smile by force, by fire. Things like that happen. We just have to manage them because they are out of love. We cannot push them away.”

The actor also stated that he always made sure to mix his personal life and career.

He said; “It has not been easy (staying out of drama) because as actors, we lead two lives. Our lives on movie sets are quite different from our lives as normal people. However, a lot of our fans don’t even understand that.

They mix up the two. I like to keep my things private and do things on my own. When it’s time for the public to know what I am doing, they will surely know. It has not been easy but I am someone who likes to be careful. However, despite my carefulness, I still have to go through a lot of things. To an extent, I have been managing things with God on my side.”

Adedimeji, who is noted for speaking Yoruba with an Igbo accent in some films, said he started doing that to stand out from other actors.

While I was at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, I was involved in stand-up comedy but at a point, I left it. However, one day, I had to act with some A-list actors and we were to speak Yoruba. I then asked myself, ‘How would I be able to stand out among them’? I had to speak to the director, asking him if I could speak another ‘version’ of Yoruba. I used the accent and from then on, I had to develop it more”, he said.

The actor also maintained that any celebrity who was not sure of what they stood for could easily be swayed by the expectations of fans.

He added, “If care is not taken and one does not know oneself or what one stands for, one would follow the crowd and lose being oneself. The worst thing in life is for one to lose oneself trying to impress other people. No matter the circumstances, one should always be oneself. Anybody who loves you would stick to you regardless.”

Actor, JideKene Achufusi, says stereotyping is a major setback in Nollywood

Nollywood actor, Jidekene Achufusi, popularly known as Swanky JKA has stated that the problem he has with Nollywood is stereotyping.

The award-winning film star made this known during his recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Rubbin Minds.

The Living In Bondage: Breaking Free star said that the Nigerian movie industry has not yet evolved into creating projects out of passion. He added that the main focus for filmmakers is how to make big returns, which is why they churn out movies that revolve around similar themes.

The biggest problem I have with Nollywood right now is stereotyping. If its Ghetto movies that is going on right now, everybody will go into Ghetto movies. If it is love and comedy, let’s go! We don’t really do we have a plan, we have a structure. It is all about the money.

“So, if I had come to Lagos before the time I did, I would probably have done more roles well and everybody else will put me on that kind of role and that usually is the case when we look at those veteran actors. We usually do not have anybody who has done a lot of things”, he said.
