Police nab armed robbery suspects in Suleja, recovered stolen items

The police command in Niger reports that it has arrested two robbery suspects in Suleja and recovered stolen items.

On June 13, at about 2:00 a.m., a distress call was received at the ‘B’ Division, Suleja, that some suspected armed robbers were sighted around the APC Quarters area of the locality, a press release by the command on Tuesday said.

Upon receipt of the call, the police patrol team, as well as the TST team from the command, and some soldiers were mobilised to the area.

”On sighting the security team, the robbers took to their heels. But the team gave them a hot chase and two of them were apprehended at a mango forest along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway in the Gauraka area.

”The two suspects, aged 20 and 24 respectively, claimed to be indigenes of Kano state.

”We recovered from them exhibits including one axe, one knife, four bags, six wrappers, ten ATM cards, two purses, slippers and other items believed to have been stolen,” the statement said.

According to the police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were robbers who dispossessed some lodgers in some hotels and residences at APC Quarters 2 in Suleja.

He added that the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department soonest for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
