President Donald Trump Has Been Refused Entry Into Scotland Until Joe Biden Is Sworn-In.

Yesterday, both President Donald Trump and Joe Biden were in Georgia to rally behind their two chosen candidates respectively for their Senatorial contests. But as it is known President Trump actually had another motive besides the electioneering campaign.

The grudging President also wants his two candidates to win the Senatorial election so that he might later use them against swearing-in Joe Biden on the 20th of this month.

Also in furtherance of his efforts at not having Joe Biden sworn-in on the aforementioned day, he has reportedly made plans to jet-o ff to Scotland for a Gulf course. In addition to the reports from the official Twitter handle of Independent news platform the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, has swiftly refused his entry there.

Warding him off, according to @Independent , the Scottish Madame, however hinted that now is not the right time to play gulf as they are presently preparing for a new lockdown measure in Scotland.

See the original Twitter posts below:

Well, I think this is simply a polite way to allow him entry into Scotland; hence they are not in support of what he is been up to.

First Semester Begins On February 1st, Students Of These Two Universities Should Note.

It’s no more news that some universities in the country have resumed academic activities while others are to resume on 11th of January and some will also resume on the 18th of January, 2021.

Some students will be wondering why there are changes in resumption date for each university. The reason for the delay or extension in resumption date is mostly due to rate of infection of the deadly coronavirus. Each state has a record of the number of daily infection which also determine the resumption date for schools.

Also, some states in the country are experiencing insurgency, bandits and attacks, therefore the government wants to ensure the security of students before allowing them to resume.

However, there’s are two institutions that will resume late than others. Theses universities have officially announced their resumption date and this means there is no changing of dates.

One of them is the University of Abuja, (UNIABUJA). The university of Abuja is set to resume on the first day of February, 2021 unlike most tertiary institutions in the country that are to resume on or before 18th of January. This was announced by the University’s directorate of academic affairs as endorsed by the Vice chancellor of the institution.

It is seconded by the University of Benin. Academic activities are scheduled to commence at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), on Monday, February 1, 2021. The University’s Senate sat on Monday the 4th of January, 2021 and concluded that students should retire to campus on January 30th, 2021 as lectures will begin on 1st February, 2021.

This therefore implies that students of UNIBEN and UNIABUJA are resuming on the 1st day of February for the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic session which was disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak and academic strike.

List of Nigerian universities that have announced resumption dates after 9 months of ASUU strike.

From late March to December 2020, Nigerian public universities were locked due to the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

After months of negotiations, the lecturers’ union finally suspended the strike on Wednesday, December 23.

However, schools could not resume immediately as the nation had already entered the festive period filled with public holidays. Similarly, the federal government also directed all universities in the country to suspend academic activities due to the spread of COVID-19.

The directive was issued by the National Universities Commission (NUC) via a circular signed by its deputy executive secretary administration, Chris Maiyaki.

However, some universities have now announced their resumption dates. Legit.ng in this piece lists three public universities that are set to resume academic activities in January.

  2. Bayero University Kano (BUK) : The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the cancellation of 2019-2020 academic sessions. According to the Senate, new academic session for undergraduate students will begin on Monday, January 18, 2021 as the first semester, while the second semester will begin on Monday, May 3, 2021. For the postgraduate students, the Senate slated Monday, January 18 as the date to resume for the first semester while the second semester will begin on Tuesday, June 1.
  3. University of Benin in Benin City (UNIBEN) : All returning students (old and new) of the University of Benin in Benin City (UNIBEN), Edo state, have been also directed by the management of the institution to resume for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions on January 30, 2021.

Has this ever happened in Nigeria? Death sentence for bribe-taking.

The former head of China’s state-owned Huarong Asset Management company was sentenced to death Tuesday for bribe-taking, in one of the harshest punishments for economic crimes in recent years.

Lai Xiaomin, 58, was also found guilty by the Second Intermediate People’s Court of Tianjin of lesser charges including corruption and bigamy.

Life sentences and suspended death sentences commuted to life after two years are frequently handed down in corruption cases, but death sentences without the chance of reprieve have become rare in recent years.

Such sentences are automatically appealed to China’s highest court.

Lai was placed under investigation by the ruling Communist Party’s corruption watchdog in 2018 and expelled from the party later the same year.

In its ruling, the Tianjin court cited the “especially enormous” size of the bribes Lai accepted, saying they exceeded 600 million yuan ($93 million) in one instance.

In total, it said Lai collected or sought to collect 1.79 billion yuan (US$260 million) over a decade in exchange for abusing his position to make investments, offer construction contracts, help with promotions and provide other favours.

He was also convicted of embezzling more than 25 million yuan (almost $4 million) in state assets and starting a second family while still married to his first wife.

Although Lai provided useful details about malfeasance by his subordinates, the seriousness of his bribe taking and “degree of harm caused to society” were not enough to win him leniency, the court said in its ruling.

“Lai Xiaomin is lawless and greedy in the extreme,” the ruling said. “His crimes are extremely serious and must be punished severely under law.”

Huarong is one of four entities created in the 1990s to buy non-performing loans from banks, helping to revive the state-owned finance industry. Such asset management companies expanded into banking, insurance, real estate finance and other fields.

Lai was accused of squandering public money, illegally organising banquets, engaging in sexual dealings with multiple women and taking bribes, the anti-corruption agency said in 2018.

Investigators seized hundreds of millions of yuan (tens of millions of dollars) in cash from Lai’s properties, the Chinese business news magazine Caixin reported in 2018.

Lai was one of hundreds of officials at government agencies, state companies and the military who have been detained in an anti-corruption crackdown launched in 2012

There is now 50% hike in electricity tariff- NERC

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has approved over 50 per cent hike in electricity tariff payable by customers of the 11 Distribution Companies, DisCos.

This is coming just two months after it finally implemented a much opposed hike in November 2020.

According to a revised Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO) signed by the new Chairman of NERC, Engr. Sanusi Garba, on December 30, 2020, and sighted Tuesday, the new tariff increase took effect on January 1, 2021, and supersedes the previous Order NERC/2028/2020.

In the new Order NERC/225/2020, the commission said it considered the 14.9% inflation rate rise in November 2020, foreign exchange of N379.4/$1 as of December 29, 2020, available generation capacity, US inflation rate of 1.22% and the Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) of the power firms to raise the tariff.

The revised Service Based Tariff (SBT) also saw increase in the rates payable by all classes of electricity users unlike the one of November 2020, that exempted low power getters.

This is effective till June 2021 while a Cost Reflective Tariff (CRT) expected to raise the new cost higher will be activated from June to December 2021, the NERC Order revealed.

Daily Trust had reported that in December, 2020, NERC notified that it had begun a review for another tariff, which has been completed and had taken effect from January 1, 2021.

NERC had raised tariff for the DisCos in September but that drew outrages from customers and the organised labour, prompting the federal government to suspend it while parties dialogued.

By November 1, 2020, the suspended tariff was implemented after some discounts were given for customers who get 12 hours and above power supply daily.

However, those with less than 12 hour supply did not get a tariff hike, according to the NERC order of November 2020.

Sumo wrestler Hakuho tests positive for covid-19

Japan’s top-ranked sumo wrestler Hakuho has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Mongolian-born grand champion took a Covid-19 test after losing his sense of smell, the Japan Sumo Association (JSA) said.

The news comes as Japan considers declaring a state of emergency in and around Tokyo, where virus cases have surged.

It has imposed relatively relaxed restrictions so far, with a more contained outbreak than some countries.

Activities like sumo wrestling have continued despite the pandemic, but cases have emerged in the sport too. In May, a 28-year-old Japanese sumo wrestler died from organ failure caused by the virus.

Hakuho – the longest-serving yokozuna or top-ranked wrestler in Japan – had been preparing for the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament, due to start in Tokyo on Sunday.

He will now seek the advice of specialists while the other wrestlers in his stable will also be tested, JSA said.

Also on Tuesday, Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said that a state of emergency declaration for Tokyo and the surrounding area would be decided on Thursday, according to local media reports.

Japan has recorded nearly 249,000 coronavirus cases and more than 3,500 deaths since the start of the pandemic. While the figures are vastly lower than countries like the UK and US, the Japanese government has been concerned by what it has described as a “very severe” third wave of infections.

New lockdown in the UK as PM Boris Johnson declares the rise in COVID19 case as “frustrating and alarming”

People in all of England and most of Scotland must now stay at home except for a handful of permitted reasons, as new lockdowns begin in both nations.

Schools have closed to most pupils in England, Scotland and Wales, while Northern Ireland will have an “extended period of remote learning”.

England’s rules are due to last until at least mid-February; Scotland’s will be reviewed at the end of January.

PM Boris Johnson warned the coming weeks would be the “hardest yet”.

It comes after the UK reported a record 58,784 cases on Monday, as well as a further 407 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

Announcing England’s lockdown, Mr Johnson said hospitals were under “more pressure from Covid than at any time since the start of the pandemic”.

He ordered people to stay indoors other than for limited exceptions – such as essential medical needs, food shopping, exercise and work that cannot be done at home – and said schools and colleges should move to remote teaching for the majority of students until at least half term.

And he said all care home residents and their carers, everyone aged 70 and over, all frontline health and social care workers, and the clinically extremely vulnerable will be offered one dose of a vaccine by mid-February.

While the rules become law in the early hours of Wednesday, people should follow them now, the PM added.

Earlier on Monday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon issued a stay-at-home order for Scotland, beginning at midnight and lasting until the end of January.

Scotland’s lockdown, which is for the mainland and Skye, will also see schools closed to pupils, places of worship closed and group exercise banned.

“It is no exaggeration to say that I am more concerned about the situation we face now than I have been at any time since March last year,” Ms Sturgeon said.

Wales, which has been in a national lockdown since 20 December, said schools and colleges would shut until 18 January for most pupils.

Iranian forces seize South Korea’s tank.

South Korea is trying to secure the release of a tanker seized by Iran.

The MT Hankuk Chemi was seized by Iranian forces near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and its crew of 20 detained. Iran said the ship had violated environmental rules.

The incident comes amid tensions over Iranian funds frozen in South Korean banks because of US sanctions.

A senior South Korean official was due in Iran in the coming days to discuss the issue.

But an official told Reuters news agency that “the plan is unclear” as to whether Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun’s visit would still go ahead.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha told reporters that South Korea was making diplomatic efforts to try to secure the release of the tanker and its crew, which includes sailors from Indonesia, Myanmar, South Korea and Vietnam.

“We have been trying to figure out what happened through the Iranian Embassy in South Korea and the South Korean Embassy in Iran and continuing to make efforts to address this situation,” she said, according to Yonhap news agency.

South Korea’s Defence Ministry on Tuesday said it had dispatched its anti-piracy unit to waters near the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow shipping route in the Gulf region, to “ensure the safety” of South Korean nationals.

In a statement, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman said the chemical tanker’s seizure was over a “purely technical issue and due to polluting the sea”.

Hillary Clinton speaks about Trump’s attitude towards presidential election.

“I would begin by saying that, President Trump’s attitude to the result of the presidential election which was carried out last year, is so uncalled for. He keeps claiming that the election was rigged and have been trying all he can ever since to distract people from the fact that he lost the election”.

With just few days to inauguration, president elect, Joe Biden and his vice, Harris, would be inaugurated into power, and until then, there is nothing trump can do about it. That’s if he doesn’t provide a tangible evidence.

Well, Hillary Clinton has just recently slammed the action of Donald trump in a new tweet she made hours ago;

“What we’re seeing right now is a president with nothing left to lose and only one goal, to distract people from the fact that he lost. He doesn’t care that the costs are America’s health, security, and our very democracy.”

Two French soldiers killed in Mali

Two French soldiers died in Mali on Saturday when their armoured vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device.

The two were in the eastern region of Menaka collecting intelligence, the French presidency has said.

It comes days after three other French soldiers died in a similar way.

France has 5,100 troops in the Sahel region which has been a front line in the war against Islamist militancy for almost a decade.

The French first intervened in the Sahel region – a semi-arid stretch of land just south of the Sahara Desert which includes Mali, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mauritania – in 2013.

These latest deaths brought to 50 the number of French soldiers killed in Mali since 2013, AFP News agency quotes army staff as saying.

France’s Minister for the Armed Forces Florence Parly tweeted that France had lost “two of its children” Sgt Yvonne Huynh and Brig Loïc Risser.

Sgt Huynh, aged 33 and mother of a young child, was the first female French soldier killed in Sahel, AFP adds.

Earlier in the week three other French soldiers were killed in Mali, also when an improvised explosive devise hit their vehicle.

In that instance militants from the Group to Support Islam and Muslims (GSIM), which is linked to al-Qaeda, said they were behind the attack.

No-one has yet said they carried out Saturday’s attack

Manchester United Management Set To Complete £77million Deal of World Class Striker.

Manchester United are considering their options as the Red Devils are set to storm the transfer market to bring in world-class players to massively improve the overall quality of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad as they look to challenge for the Premier League title.

According to recent reports, Manchester United Board are ready to make a massive move to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s superstar ,Erling Haaland, as the Norwegian international striker has been identified as a major attacking target.

Manchester United boss , Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to further improve his attacking ranks and has now decided to drop his interest in Jadon Sancho in order to complete the massive signing of Erling Haaland , who has been linked with a move to Manchester United for a long time.

Erling Haaland was linked with a move to the Old Trafford whilst he was still at RB Salzburg but the Striker opted for Dortmund. However, Manchester United are now set to move all out in order to complete the signing of the attacker this year.

20-years Old Erling Haaland is already regarded as one of the most feared strikers in Europe as his impressive and scintillating goalscoring form for Dortmund has continued to attract the interest of several top clubs around the continent.

However, Manchester United will have to pay a massive transfer fee in the region of £77million if they are to complete the signing of Erling Haaland this year. Although, Dortmund are unlikely to accept any transfer bid for Haaland in this winter transfer window, the Norwegian international striker will have a release clause in the region of £55million which is a lot cheaper if he stays at Borussia Dortmund till the summer of 2022.

Inspector Ibrahim and officer Kalejaiye should take note.

A US police officer who was called out to arrest a family suspected of shoplifting instead bought them some food so they could have a decent Christmas dinner.

Matt Lima was called to a food store in Somerset, Massachusetts, last month, a police statement said .

Two women were reported not to be scanning all of their groceries.

When questioned, the family said they had fallen upon hard times and could not afford to pay for all the food.

They had still wanted to give the children a Christmas dinner.

Mr Lima served them with a “no trespass” order, but did not press charges as all the items on the shopping receipt were for food, police said.

He then bought them gift cards worth $250 (£180) with his own money so the women and their two children would be able to buy food for their Christmas dinner at another shop of the same chain.

“The two children with the women reminded me of my kids, so I had to help them out,” Officer Lima said.

“Obviously, this family was in need and I can’t imagine having to make the decision to go to Stop and Shop [the food store] and just only pay for what I can afford – or do I go there and try to take things for Christmas dinner for the kids?” he told local TV .

Oyo Govt Sets January 11 As School Resumption date.

The Oyo State government has announced the cancellation of staggered attendance of classes by students of public and private schools in the state.

This is as it directed all public and private schools (Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Technical Colleges) in the state to resume normal classes, from Monday, January 11, 2021.

A circular with ref. no. EDU.1070/vol.V/T1/24, signed by state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, dated 24th December 2020, conveyed this directive.

The latest circular particularly directed the management of schools to ensure the usage of all available infrastructure in the school to ensure required distancing.

It will be recalled that, as a measure to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in schools, the state government had effective September 21 ordered that schools open in order of morning and afternoon session.

The order was that pupils from primary 1, primary 3 and students in classes JSS1 to JSS3 will resume for morning shift from 8 am to 11 am while those in primary 4 to primary 6 and their counterparts in SSS1, SSS2 and SSS3 will resume afternoon shift from the hours of 12noon and 3 pm.

The latest circular had as recipients the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Board of Technical and Vocational Education (BOTAVED), Zonal Inspectors of Education, Local Inspectors of Education, Principals and Headteachers of Public and Private Schools.

The circular titled, Cancellation of Staggered Classes, read in parts,

“I wish to remind all stakeholders of the staggered attendance of classes during the first term and that the second term 2020/2021 academic session will commence from Monday 11th January 2021″.
“Consequent upon the above, all public and private schools (Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Technical Colleges) in the state are to resume normal classes”.

“However, you are to use all available infrastructure in the school suitable for temporary classrooms to ensure required distancing as well as continue to strictly observe other conditions stated in the guidelines for resumption due to COVID-19.”
