A man had to get a steel cup removed from his rectum 10 days after it was inserted by his friends in a drunken prank.
The cup, which was around 3-4ins (8cm) in diameter and 6ins (15cm) long, was surgically removed at a local hospital.
The 45-year-old man, who hails from Balipadar, India, was enjoying a night out drinking with his friends in Gujarat, an Indian state where alcohol is illegal.
According to reports, the victim’s friends said they inserted the cup up his butt hole whilst he was in an “inebriated state” as part of a “prank”.
The man did not immediately report the incident over fears of embarrassing himself. His family members rushed him to hospital after they found out, said local media.
An X-Ray at MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur city showed that the cup was found stuck in the intestine.
NDTV India said they removed the cup after 10 days when the man’s stomach started swelling as he had not defecated since the incident.
At first, the doctors tried to retrieve the cup through the rectum, but then had to resort to surgery due to the sheer size of the object.
Doctors had to cut through the intestine to finally retrieve it. The procedure, which was carried out on Friday, August 19, took around 2.5 hours in total.
The man is recovering after the surgery and his condition is said to be stable. He will remain in hospital for another 4-5 days under observation.
Ryan Giggs’ defence team has said said the former Manchester United footballer’s ex-girlfriend is lying about being physically assaulted, claiming her anger with the footballer turned coach lies solely on his cheating and philandering ways, which aren’t crimes.Chris Daw QC claimed that Kate Greville had told so many lies and that the ‘source of her deep, deep anger’ was Giggs’ ‘infidelity’.
PR executive Kate Greville accuses Giggs, 48, of displaying controlling or coercive behaviour towards her and also headbutting her at his home, and elbowing her sister Emma Greville on the same occasion on November 1, 2020.
Giggs denies all charges and is standing trial at Manchester Crown Court.
His barrister Daw told jurors on the 11th day of the trial on Monday, August 22 that ‘morality plays no part in a court of law’.
He said Giggs is not on trial for ‘being flirtatious’, being a ‘compulsive womaniser’, an ‘adulterer’ or a ‘liar’ or a ‘cheat’.
“He is not on trial for any of those things,”. “If they were crimes, just think how many prisons we would need.
“He accused the prosecution of ‘cherry picking’ evidence from more than 19,000 messages the couple had exchanged during their near six year relationship.
Jurors heard Giggs accepted using ‘truly appalling’ language, including when he called Ms Greville a ‘c***. ”
But he said these were not representative of their relationship completely. Daw claimed a letter entitled ‘The Final Goodbye’, which Greville shared with a friend and didn’t send on to Mr Giggs, showed she was angry about his infidelity.”Truth be told, infidelity is what this case is all about,” Daw said.
“The reason Ms Greville was upset was because of that.”He said there was no reference to ‘control’ in the letter.
“Clearly that was the source of her deep, deep anger by the time we reach October (2020),” Mr Daw said.
He told the jury Greville had told lies ‘from the outset’, including when she claimed to police on the evening of November 1 that Mr Giggs had headbutted her before.
“Members of the jury, there are so many lies that she has told,” the QC said. “So many things she has said that can’t possibly be true.”
Daw told the jurors how Ms Greville told Giggs she needed to go to the hospital because she had ‘cancerous cells’, but that she was actually having her contraceptive coil removed so she could get pregnant for Giggs for financial reasons. “She denies that that was a plan at all,” Daw said.
“You have got to decide whether you can trust or believe what she says.” He added how Ms Greville can be ‘incredibly manipulative when she wants to be’. Daw said there was ‘no evidence of Giggs controlling anything she ever did’.”She was earning good money, she was independent,” he said. “She had her friends around her.”
“This is a woman who is extremely self confident and in control.” Daw described claims of an alleged assault in a Dubai hotel in 2017 as ‘absolutely ridiculous’. Greville alleges she was ‘dragged’ naked out of the room by Mr Giggs, while he says she was bruised during ‘rough s*x’.
He dismissed her claims of Greville being a ‘slave’ to Mr Giggs and her account of lockdown being a ‘living hell’ was ‘entirely subjective’ to present a ‘false’ picture.
Speaking of the alleged headbutt in November 2020 during an incident at Mr Giggs’ home in Worsley, Daw told jurors:
“We suggest to you that it is simply utterly incredible, that there is an attack with a headbutt in the way described.
“He argued a ‘minor’ injury to her lip was not consistent with a forceful headbutt alleged.
Daw said Mr Giggs had chosen to give evidence, and described prosecutor Peter Wright QC’s cross-examination of him as being ‘almost a form of bloodsport’.
“Whatever you made of him, you may think he was in effect a rabbit in the headlights in that witness box, faced by Mr Wright,” Daw said, describing Mr Wright as ‘one of the leading prosecution barristers of the last 40 years’.
He claimed Mr Giggs ‘pretty much agreed to anything’, and said the ex-footballer was ’embarrassed to admit’ if he didn’t understand a word, or what was being asked of him.
“It was no less a mismatch than putting Mr Wright in goal against Mr Giggs at his absolute peak of footballing ability,” Daw said.
The lawyer also made reference to the evidence of Sir Alex Ferguson, who told jurors that Giggs had ‘fantastic temperament’ when he managed him at United.
“You remember Sir Alex saying to you he used to deliberately pick on Ryan Giggs in front of the players because he knew he could,” Daw said.
“Can you imagine being picked on by Sir Alex Ferguson in his prime in front of lots of other people?”No reaction, no loss of temper.”Concluding his speech, the barrister added:
“Members of the jury, take a cold hard look at the evidence in this case, and putting everything out of your mind, the only true verdict I suggest on all three counts must be not guilty.”
The Judge, Hilary Manley will conclude all the evidence in the case on Tuesday, before the jury is sent out to deliberate on its verdicts.
After nearly four decades, Dr. Anthony Fauci says he’ll be departing his roles as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and as chief medical officer to US President Joe Biden at the end of this year.
Fauci known as the US’ top infectious disease expert has served at NIAID for 38 years starting in former President Ronald Reagan’s administration, a role in which he helped lead the US response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, as well as West Nile virus, the anthrax attacks, pandemic influenza, various bird influenza threats, Ebola and Zika. He became a public figure during the United States’ response to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
“I am announcing today that I will be stepping down from the positions of Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Chief of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation, as well as the position of Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden.
I will be leaving these positions in December of this year to pursue the next chapter of my career,” Fauci, 81 said on Monday, August 22.
Fauci said in his statement that he is “not retiring” and will “continue to advance science and public health and to inspire and mentor the next generation of scientific leaders as they help prepare the world to face future infectious disease threats.”

“Because of Dr. Fauci’s many contributions to public health, lives here in the United States and around the world have been saved.
As he leaves his position in the U.S. Government, I know the American people and the entire world will continue to benefit from Dr. Fauci’s expertise in whatever he does next,” Biden said.
“Whether you’ve met him personally or not, he has touched all Americans’ lives with his work.
I extend my deepest thanks for his public service. The United States of America is stronger, more resilient, and healthier because of him.”
Manchester City footballer, Benjamin Mendy has arrived at Chester Crown Court today for the second week of his rape trial.
The French footballer, 28, denies eight counts of rape against five women, one count of sexual assault, and one count of attempted rape.
The offences are alleged to have taken place on five different occasions at his Cheshire mansion between October 2018 and August last year.
Last week, one of his alleged victims said she was left feeling like she ‘didn’t want to be here anymore’ after allegedly being raped by Mendy.
Mendy’s co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 41, from Eccles, Salford, has also pleaded not guilty to eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault, relating to eight women.
Prosecutors allege Mendy, a French international, is a ‘predator’ who ‘turned the pursuit of women for sex into a game’.
None of the women involved can be identified and reporting restrictions apply ahead of the trial.
NBA hall of famer, Dennis Rodman has announced plans to visit Russia to seek the release of Brittney Griner, the WNBA star who was sentenced to nine years in prison on drug charges.
Earlier this month, Griner was sentenced to nine years in a Russian jail for drug possession earlier this month.
Her lawyers have filed an appeal and there are understood to be separate talks underway over a possible prisoner swap.
Rodman has now revealed plans to make a trip of his own to negotiate the Olympic champion’s release. “I got permission to go to Russia to help that girl,” Rodman told NBC News.
“I’m trying to go this week.” He did not specify who had given him permission to travel to Russia.
The 61-year-old Rodman has described himself as a “basketball ambassador.”
In 2014, he was invited to Russia by Vladimir Putin and called the country’s president “cool”.
He also has a friendship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who is an avid NBA fan.
Conor McGregor has defended Anthony Joshua’s post-fight speech after the boxer went on a bizarre rant following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch.
AJ was beaten on points for the second time in the space of a year by Ukraine’s Usyk in Saudi Arabia. After his split decision defeat in the highly anticipated rematch, Joshua grabbed the microphone before delivering a speech.
He spoke about his journey and the ongoing war on Ukraine after telling Usyk “I’m talking” when the champion tried to take his Ukrainian flag back from him, a bizarre speech that many have slammed. Joshua said:
“This guy is a phenomenal talent, we’re going to cheer for him three times. “How many belts you got now bro, five? Hooray. I was studying Ukraine and their champions from your amazing country.
“I’ve never been there, but at the same time, what’s happening there, I don’t know what’s happening. “It’s not nice, I’ve seen it in Lomachenko’s second fight. There were issues, civil war. Vitali Klitschko against Danny Williams, civil unrest.
“Usyk, as a champion, please raise your hand, under those circumstances you became a champion. Champ, champ.”
McGregor has now defended Joshua, claiming it was ‘a great speech’ and ‘if they [Usyk’s team] wanted the mic they could’ve tried get it back.’
‘You are all going on ridiculous over this,’ McGregor posted on his Twitter account. ‘That is a great speech right there. Fair play to him he made it yet he is still in there keeping that cog going.
‘If they wanted the mic they could’ve tried get it back. Then he gives me a shout out. Great fight, thank you! #champchamp’.
A man is in hospital for surgery after accidentally cutting his own testicles off while sleeping.
Ghanaian farmer Kofi Atta, 47, also known as Wofa Atta, dozed off in an armchair and said he managed to pick up a knife while sleeping and dreaming about cutting meat. In his sleep, he said he mistakenly cut his testicle.
Still in a dream-like state, the farmer from Assin Akomfede called for two neighbours who rushed to his house and found him alone, covered in blood. He was rushed to St Francis Xavier hospital in Assin Fosu.
Speaking to BBC Pidgin he said: “I was sitting in my chair when I dozed off. In my sleep, I dreamt that I was cutting some meat in front of me.
“I don’t remember how I picked up the knife, even I am confused.” He explained that he was still unsure of what had happened when his neighbours arrived, although he stood up and felt a sharp pain in his genitals.
Perhaps as a result of the loss of blood, Kofi only came out of the dream state when in hospital. That’s when he realised he hadn’t been chopping meat for a family meal, but rather his own testicles.
The victim’s wife, Adwoa Konadu, disclosed that the latest incident is not the first time her husband has carried out such activity while sleeping.
She said that he frequently moves, converses, and occasionally fights while he is asleep. It was during one of such episodes that Wofa Atta ended up damaging his genitals.
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) earlier today revoked the broadcast licenses of Silverbird TV, AIT, Raypower FM, and Rhythm FM and 48 others, over failure to renew their broadcast licenses.
This was disclosed by the Director General of the NBC Mallam Balarabe Shehu on Friday August 19.
A woman who has been central to R. Kelly’s legal troubles for more than two decades testified on Thursday, August 18 that the R&B singer had s*x with her ‘hundreds’ of times before she turned 18 years old, starting when she was just 15.
Jane – the pseudonym for the now 37-year-old woman at Kelly’s trial on child pornography and obstruction of justice charges told jurors that in the late 1990s when she was 13, she asked the Grammy award-winning singer to be her godfather because she saw him as a mentor.
After some weeks, Kelly started calling her to say s*xual things.
She said he first touched her breasts when she was around 14 at a Chicago recording studio, and that around that time, he ‘started penetration’ at his North Side Chicago home.
Jane said she was 15 when they first had intercourse. Kelly, 55, would have been around 30 years old at the time.Sometimes, they would have s*x with other teenage girls she would recruit at Kelly’s request, she testified,
With her testimony on Thursday, Jane served as the first former victim to speak out about what she allegedly endured in the R&B star’s ongoing child pornography trial.
He stands charged in Chicago federal court with enticing of minors for s*x, producing child pornography and rigging his 2008 pornography trial.Prosecutors allege that R. Kelly paid off and threatened Jane and her family to ensure that she didn’t testify at a similar 2008 trial.
She didn’t testify and he was ultimately acquitted.Kelly, 55, is serving a 30-year prison sentence for his conviction in a New York court earlier this year on other federal charges alleging he used his fame to s*xually abuse fans over several decades.
Jane said she was in a music group at the time, and Kelly — a friend of her aunt’s — attended one of their performances, and gave her good feedback. ‘It made me feel happy that such a successful person was saying I was gifted, so I was excited,’ Jane testified, according to the Chicago Tribune.
She said her aunt then advised her to ask Kelly to be her godfather, explaining her aunt told her ‘I should sit on his lap and rub his head and ask him to play that role in my life.’Jane said she obliged, and Kelly ‘chuckled a bit, and said “yes.
“But soon the relationship became s*xual. In at least one case, WGN-TV reports, she said Kelly asked her what color her underwear was, and told her he was pleasuring himself as they spoke.
Kelly then gave her alcohol for the first time when she was 14, Jane said, and she began drinking heavily.’It would help me loosen up, kind of take me away from the moment,’ she said.By the time she was 15, she said, they started having s*x, and when asked by a prosecutor how she knew her exact age, Jane replied:
‘Because that’s when I lost my virginity.’From there, Jane said, they would have intercourse in Kelly’s home on West George Street, at his Near West Side recording studio, on tour buses and in hotels.
Asked by a prosecutor how she would know what to do s*xually, Jane answered: ‘He would tell me what to do.’
And when asked how many times they had s*x before she turned 18, she answered quietly: ‘Uncountable times…hundreds.’ Unlike at the 2008 trial, Jane is now cooperating with prosecutors and is a pivotal witness.
Prosecutors say Kelly shot an explicit video of Jane in a log cabin-themed room at his North Side Chicago home between 1998 and 2000. In it, the girl is heard calling the man ‘daddy.’
Prosecutors say Kelly, who rose from poverty on Chicago’s South Side to become a star singer, knew a conviction in 2008 would effectively end his life as he knew it, and so he conspired to fix that trial.
According to prosecutors, Kelly told Jane and her parents to leave Chicago, paying for them to travel to the Bahamas and Cancun, Mexico.
When they returned, prosecutors say Kelly sought to isolate Jane, moving her around to different hotels. When called before a state grand jury looking into the video, Jane, her father and mother denied it was her in it.
On June 13, 2008, when he was acquitted on all counts of child pornography, some of the jurors told reporters after the trial that they weren’t convinced that the female in the video was who state prosecutors said she was. Kelly, who has denied any wrongdoing, has been trailed for decades by complaints and allegations about his s*xual behavior.
The scrutiny intensified after the #MeToo era and the 2019 six-part documentary ‘Surviving R. Kelly.’Kelly also faces four counts of enticement of minors for s*x – one each for four other accusers. They, too, are expected to testify.
Prosecutors also say they have evidence of at least three videos showing Kelly having s*x with underage girls.
A 36-year-old mother chopped off her 32-year-old boyfriend’s p*nis with a kitchen knife after he allegedly attempted to rape her 14-year-old daughter.
The incident happened in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh state in India, reports The Times of India. According to officials, the mum and daughter duo had been living with the man for two years after the 36-year-old mother separated from her alcoholic husband.
The woman who spoke to the Times of India said she was working in a farm when the alleged incident took place.
She claimed that she reached home just in time when she caught her partner “red-handed” trying to rape her teenage daughter. She also alleged that he tried to attack her as well.
“I was trying to save my daughter and hence got hold of a kitchen knife and chopped off his p*nis to teach him a lesson. I have no regrets,” the woman was quoted as saying.
According to the SHO of the Lakhimpur police station, the boyfriend has been booked for rape under the POCSO act.
The SHO also said that the condition of the accused is critical and he may be moved to Lucknow for further treatment.
It is unclear whether or not the mother, who has not been named, will face any charges for hacking off the boyfriend’s manhood.
Eager Manchester United fans have tweaked British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Wikipedia page to incorrectly name him as owner of the club.
Ratcliffe, the billionaire owner of chemicals company Ineos, on Wednesday, August 17 announced plans to take over at Old Trafford amid calls for current owners, the Glazers, to depart.
The Glazers have faced protests from supporters ever since their arrival in 2005 over financial constraints they have placed on the club, while withdrawing millions of pounds in dividends payments for their own personal profit.
Coupled with Manchester United’s dismal start to the season, the pressure on their unpopular owners to sell the club has increased.
The club’s supporters have now taken their eagerness to another level as they have doctored the Wikipedia page of the 69-year-old.
After being tweaked by an eager fan, Ratcliffe’s occupation on Wikipedia briefly read: ‘Chairman and CEO, Owner of Manchester United’ before being swiftly deleted.
A pack of wolves are on the loose in a Canadian city after escaping from a zoo through a hole deliberately cut in the fence. The Greater Vancouver Zoo has been shut following the incident with a “small number” of wolves still roaming free.
The zoo which revealed that most of the wolves were now back safely in their care in a statement shared late on Tuesday August 16, said the manner of their escape is “suspicious, and believed to be due to malicious intent”.
The enclosure usually holds 15 wolves and six cubs, but it’s not clear how many of the animals escaped. Cops are investigating how the wolves got out of the zoo using a hole in the fence which appeared to be deliberate.
Langley RCMP are investigating what appears to be unlawful entry and vandalism,” zoo officials said.
Though the zoo said the wolves do not pose a threat to the public, British Columbia Conservation Officer Service told CTV news that people should “keep their distance” if they do see the wolves.
The Zoo said;
“The Greater Vancouver Zoo is working with the Langley RCMP and the B.C Conservation Officer Service to contain wolves that have been found outside their enclosure this morning.
“This is an ongoing investigation and is suspicious, and believed to be due to malicious intent.
“Most wolves are back in the care of our animal health and welfare team. GVZoo staff continue to actively search for small number of remaining wolves unaccounted for.
“Langley RCMP are investigating what appears to be unlawful entry and vandalism.
“Zoo officials say there is no danger to the public and ask anyone who sees a wolf in the Greater Vancouver Zoo area to contact the following below.”
A Saudi student at Leeds University UK, who returned to Saudi Arabia for a holiday has been sentenced to 34 years in prison for having a Twitter account and for following and retweeting dissident activists.
Salma al-Shebab, 34, was accused of using Twitter to “cause public unrest and destabilise civil and national security” after she posted tweets calling for women’s rights in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Shebab, who has two young sons aged four and six, was initially sentenced to six years in prison but a Saudi terrorism court on Monday, August 15, increased her jail-term to 34 years after she appealed her sentence.
In sentencing, the court cited Al-Shebab’s social media activity where she tweeted in support of women’s rights in Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with imprisoned women’s rights activists such as Loujain al-Hathloul and called for their release.
Al-Shebab was arrested after she retweeted a post from Al-Hathloul’s sister Lina which read: “Freedom for Loujain Al-Hathloul … Freedom for all prisoners of conscience. Your freedom is my first wish for this New Year – Happy New Year.” Al-Shebab would also sometimes retweet posts from dissident activists who were living in exile.
She was accused of “providing succour to those seeking to disrupt public order and undermine the safety of the general public and stability of the state, and publishing false and tendentious rumours on Twitter.”
Al-Shebab was arrested in January 2021 while on holiday in Saudi Arabia just days before she planned to return to the UK, where she was a PhD student at the University of Leeds. Dr Bethany Al-Haidari, the Saudi case manager at the US-based human rights organisation, said:
“Saudi Arabia has boasted to the world that they are improving women’s rights and creating legal reform, but there is no question with this abhorrent sentence that the situation is only getting worse.
“It is unfortunately no surprise that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman feels more empowered than ever in presiding over such egregious rights violations.
“The ruling for Salma’s sentence cited her social media account, where she was supportive of women’s rights activist Loujain al-Hathloul and called for her freedom.
“Though Salma was initially sentenced to 6-years in the first instance court, the sentence was increased to 34 years during the appeal. This is the longest known sentence for a women’s rights activist in Saudi Arabia.”
Loujain Al-Hathloul, who remains wrongfully held in Saudi Arabia under a travel ban, was released from jail just weeks after al-Shebab’s detention.
Al-Shebab had called for Al-Hathloul’s release from prison before her arrest. Al-Haidari added:
“It is ironic that while Loujain’s release was celebrated, Salma remained behind bars on the ground that she called for that very release.
“It’s a pattern for Saudi authorities to ensure that women activists can’t celebrate or take credit for any of their hard-won victories.”
Rapper A$AP Rocky has been charged with assault for the November 2021 shooting of a former friend in Hollywood.
Prosecutors said earlier that Rocky pointed a gun at a man (since identified as Relli) during a heated conversation in Hollywood last fall. Later, Rocky allegedly fired two shots in Relli’s direction. Relli has said that he was hit with bullet fragments and suffered injuries as a result of the shooting.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Monday August 15, that the rapper is facing two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm with allegations of personally using a firearm.
George said;
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.
“My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.” Rocky will be arraigned on Wednesday Augusy 17.
The “Praise the Lord” artist had been taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after arriving in LAX airport with girlfriend Rihanna in April. He was released on $550,000 bail.
Rocky previously found himself in legal hot water in 2019 when he was arrested and jailed in Sweden for a month for his involvement in a street fight with alleged “drug addicts.”
The rapper and Rihanna welcomed their first child together, a boy, on May 13. The pair started dating in 2020, and the “Umbrella” singer announced her pregnancy in January.
The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri Balasubramanian, on Monday, pledged his country’s readiness to provide the needed support to end insecurity in Nigeria.
This is as he promised to further deepen the India-Nigeria relations and economic ties with social investments in solar energy, artificial intelligence, fintech and scientific intelligence.
He stated this while speaking with journalists at the flag-hoisting to mark the 75th independence of India which was held at the High Commission of India in Abuja. He said,
“As you know, much of the defence training has been given in India; various security outfits have been trained in military installations and training institutes.
“So, we will be happy to continue the partnership in cooperation with the Nigerian government, and we are ready to assist in that direction.”
He also commended the relationship between the two countries, describing it as one of the best.“India-Nigeria relationship is one of the best. We started our relationship even before Nigeria’s independence in 1958 when we had established our office in Lagos.
Since then, our relationship has developed; we have partnered in human capacity development, we are very happy that with the cooperation of the Nigerian government, we can now say that our relationship is strong and very cordial,” he said.
The recently appointed commissioner noted that although India had invested $14.9m in the country, he is looking forward to strengthening relationship with Nigeria in all areas.

A British teenager has drowned at a Turkish holiday resort while celebrating a family wedding.
The 14-year-old was reportedly swimming in the Liberty Lara beach hotel pool in Antalya on Sunday afternoon, August 14, when he got into difficulty.
He was pulled unconscious from the pool by a barman at the all-inclusive resort and was given CPR on the scene before being rushed to a nearby hospital, according to a holidaymaker who saw the incident.
Police are now investigating claims that the lifeguard, who was supposed to be on duty while the boy drowned, had left the pool unattended to go on lunch break. One onlooker told The Sun:
‘This happened around 1pm and we heard the lifeguard had gone for lunch. ‘They tried very hard to revive the boy at the side of the pool but it was too late.’
The Liberty Lara hotel told The Sun the claims surrounding the absentee lifeguard were false.
The luxury resort hotel boasts five pools, including one with a waterslide, along with a spa experience, all-inclusive restaurant and several bars. In a statement provided to The Sun, a Liberty Lara spokesperson insisted:
‘In accordance with the rules and regulations regarding the lifeguards we have stationed at all of our pools, water slide splash pools, observation tower on the beach and on the pier, when a lifeguard takes a lunch break, another lifeguard will take his or her place.
‘There are CCTV cameras located around the pool area which have been viewed by both the Liberty Lara management and the local police. Lifeguards were on the scene within 30 seconds.
‘We have one additional lifeguard over the numbers required to ensure that the pools are not left unattended when a lifeguard takes a lunch break.’
Former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua says he can’t wait to ‘harm’ current IBO, IBF, and WBO champion, Oleksandr Usyk as he has been putting himself through mental torture.
11 months ago, Joshua lost to Oleksandr Usyk in Tottenham and drew criticisms from fans all over the world. However, Joshua says he tries not to focus on criticism and focuses on his records even though people forget about records easily.
Reacting to speculation that he would not have the desire to box on after being humiliated by Usyk in the first fight, Joshua said to SportsMail.
‘I try not to focus on criticism. There are a lot of positive vibes out there as well. Especially inside the four walls of my home and the environment I shape around me. Should I shape that environment around having had a couple of defeats?” he said’
Records matter now because people forget quickly these days. But I study the win-loss records of the famous endlessly – and boxers who consistently fight the best rarely go undefeated through their career. Annoying as it is, I know I have to cope with losing. I fight the best.’
‘Right after, in the changing room, I knew I would fight again. I was telling everyone: Come on. What the f***. We are warriors. We lost a fight but not the war. This is an ongoing battle. It’s not over ’til it’s over.
That’s how I remotivated my team. Nothing should dishearten you. I have to keep that mentality. For the rest of my life. Even if I stumble privately or publicly. ‘But it has been a nightmare just sitting on this loss for so many months. The time-frame does change every day.
I have dedicated a lot of my life to a very tough sport. I will do this for as long as I can but I think I’m quite smart at business now. I will be 33 shortly and a lot will come down to how long my body can hang on.
‘It sounds crazy but I’m not going to lie. My objective was never to hurt him, to land damaging punches. My aim was to go the full 12 rounds and prove I could box as well as he does. To land scoring punches.
‘But I didn’t work hard enough to prepare for a 12 round fight at that pace. I wasn’t in the right mind-set. That of wanting to go in there and smash him. Using my size and power this time is evident, isn’t it? But to work on it is easier said than done.
Training camps are so challenging. So draining. So brain-fatiguing. I need to be better conditioned (an admission there of taking the smaller Usyk for granted).
‘I need adjustments to deal with a southpaw because to me these lefties are a nightmare.
I swear that if Oleksandr wasn’t a lefty I would have smoked him. One hundred per cent.’ ‘I do want to do him harm this time, despite all my respect for what he has done in the war in Ukraine.
I do know that if I use my elements of height and strength I will have a better chance of winning.’In order to prepare for the fight, Rob McCracken, boss of the UK’s successful Olympic squads and AJ’s trainer throughout his pro career to date, was sacked in favour of Robert Garcia.
‘With Rob at Uni (his camp at Loughborough) we would walk into the gym and do skipping, shadow boxing, pads and the bags. He would say things like hands up, or slip there.’Robert breaks things down more. In one round of sparring I’m told to perfect that f****** job. In another round, to tilt more when throwing the big right hand. It’s more tactical (to deal with a southpaw).
Reasoning to the method. It’s a lot to remember. ‘So I’ve handed over control. I used to spell out the two or three things I wanted to work on. Now I listen. Soak up information like a sponge. Let my guys make the decisions.
”That’s just how it usually is with me. Calm. A lot of people understand the physical side of boxing. But what about the psychological element? A fighter has to be trained to keep his head screwed on as he goes into the ring.
Not drift away mentally because someone’s shouting abuse, or even being positive, or seeing your mum on the ring-walk. Now I need tunnel vision.’ ‘It’s not so much about me being confident,’ adds Joshua. ‘That’s up to my team.
I respect Robert highly but I can only gain confidence from my preparation and my sparring. A coach can tell a fighter a million good things but if he doesn’t do them on the night then it’s pointless.’
A senior Kremlin official has reportedly met Western diplomats and intelligence chiefs in a bid to help end the war in Ukraine.
According to Mail Online, a source claimed that much of Moscow’s elite are highly concerned about the trajectory of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s invasion into the neighbouring country and are alarmed by the bite of wide-ranging sanctions levied by the West in response.
A document, purportedly circulated to Western intelligence agencies and seen by The Mirror, said: ‘A representative of Putin’s inner-circle sent a signal about the desire to negotiate.
The mood of the Kremlin elite is panic.’ It is unclear which member of Moscow’s top officials is likely to have undermined Putin’s plans, but the document supposedly described the insider as a ‘pillar of the regime’ in Russia.
A Ukrainian diplomatic source told The Mirror they would not be surprised to hear that high level Kremlin officials are attempting to connect with Western intelligence agencies behind Putin’s back.
‘It is often the case as happened in the closing stages of the Second World War that officials on a side concerned about their future make approaches to ensure it,’ the source said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told North Korean leader Kim Jong Un the two countries will “expand the comprehensive and constructive bilateral relations with common efforts,” Pyongyang’s state media reported on Monday, August 15.
In a letter to Kim for Korea’s liberation day, Putin said closer ties would be in both countries’ interests, and would help strengthen the security and stability of the Korean peninsula and the Northeastern Asian region, North Korea’s KCNA news agency said.
Kim also sent a letter to Putin saying Russian-North Korean friendship had been forged in World War II with victory over Japan, which had occupied the Korean peninsula.
The “strategic and tactical cooperation, support and solidarity” between the two countries has since reached a new level is their common efforts to frustrate threats and provocations from hostile military forces,” Kim said in the letter.
KCNA did not identify the hostile forces, but it has typically used that term to refer to the United States and its allies.
Kim said cooperation between Russia and North Korea would grow based on an agreement signed in 2019 when he met with Putin.
North Korea in July recognised two Russian-backed breakaway “people’s republics” in eastern Ukraine as independent states, and officials raised the prospect of North Korean workers being sent to the areas to help in construction and labour.
Ukraine, which is fighting against Russia’s invasion immediately severed relations with Pyongyang over the move.
