Twitter suspends Kathy Griffin’s account for impersonating Elon Musk

Twitter has suspended Kathy Griffin for impersonating the company’s new owner, Elon Musk.

The American comedian and actress, 62, changed her profile name to Musk to mimic the Twitter owner after which she flaunted her account’s new look by urging users to #VoteBlue and check out Twitter competitor, Mastodon.

“After much-spirited discussion with the females in my life, I’ve decided that voting blue for their choice is only right. (They’re also sexy females, btw.) #VoteBlueToProtectWomen,” Griffin tweeted.

The suspension came after Musk indicated he was taking his “Chief Tweet” role seriously as he addressed fake accounts just weeks after officially acquiring Twitter for $44 billion.

“Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended,” he wrote Sunday night.

“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning.

This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue.”

Musk is launching an $8 monthly subscription service where any Twitter user may be able to easily attain a blue checkmark symbol.

The rate at which Nigerians are leaving the country is worrisome – Nigeria Immigration Service

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has described as worrisome the alarming rate at which Nigerians are leaving the country in search of greener pastures abroad.

Speaking at a sensitization campaign on the scourge of Smuggling of Migrants (SOM) for stakeholders in Enugu State on Thursday, November 3, The NIS boss in Enugu state Joachim Olumba said.

“Indeed, this program couldn’t have been held at a more appropriate time, considering the alarming rate at which, not only the youth, but older generation of Nigerians exhibit interest to leave the country.

This is creating a worrisome phenomenon which has come to be popularly known in local parlance as “Japa” The Immigration boss stated that the appetite to jet out of the country was usually driven largely by social, economic, and security concerns.

He mentioned that Nigerians, especially the youth, were leaving the shores of the country in their droves.

“To many, what is paramount is to achieve the goal of migrating from the country and not the means of reaching their destinations.

Whether they are smuggled or trafficked, or they even get to leave the country by means of a stowaway, does not really matter to them.

The ultimate interest is to relocate to foreign lands. As far as the vast majority are concerned, the end will eventually justify the means” he said

Olumba averred that the desperation had brought unspeakable and unprintable hardships on numerous Migrants.

Elon Musk to sack half of Twitter staff and end working from home in a bid to reduce costs

Elon Musk is planning to sack half of Twitter staff and end working from home in a bid to reduce costs following his tumultuous $44bn takeover.

The Tesla chief will reportedly announce the redundancies affecting 3,700 staff on Friday November 4, and force employees back into the office from Monday.

This is coming days after he sacked Twitter’s senior leadership team, including its chief executive, and a number of other high-profile executives have resigned since he took over the company.

Their most recent departures include their head of accounting, head of marketing, and advertising chief.

Musk will lay out plans to reduce the workforce by half this Friday, Bloomberg reported.

Laid-off workers will be offered 60 days’ worth of severance pay, Twitter sources told Bloomberg.

Musk previously denied reports that up to 75% of Twitter staff could be let go. The mogul will also end the social media company’s “work from anywhere policy,” brought in after the coronavirus pandemic, on Monday.

Bloomberg reported that Tesla engineers had been brought in to review Twitter’s code and that engineering lay-offs were being decided based on employees’ contributions.

Twitter’s top executives were reportedly sacked for “good cause,” meaning they could be denied a $100m payout. The news comes amid concerns from advertisers and civil liberties groups that Musk’s plan to promote free speech on the social network could lead to an increase in hate speech.

He is also considering removing permanent bans on hundreds of accounts, including former US President Donald Trump.

Singer, Trey Songz’s $20million s*xual assault civil suit ‘dismissed after statute of limitations expired on alleged victim’s claims’

A s*xual assault civil suit against Trey Songz has reportedly been dismissed after legal documents proved the statute of limitations had expired on the allegations.

Back in February, a woman who identified as Jane Doe in court documents had claimed Songz, 38 forced her to have anal s*x against her consent at a house party in Los Angeles on March 26, 2016.

The woman said that Songz behaved like a ‘savage r@pist’ during a s*xual encounter where she screamed and pleaded with him to stop what he was doing but that Songz allegedly overpowered her physically.

Another person quickly entered and exited the room, the woman told the court, and Songz continued raping her.

He has vehemently denied the accusations. At the time of the alleged assault (before January 1, 2019), the statute of limitations in California to file a civil claim for s*xual assault if the victim is over 18 was two years.

The alleged victim filed her complaint six years after the alleged rape. She was suing Songz for $20million in damages.

The publication reports that Songz’s suit was thrown out on Monday October 31, after attorneys for the star successfully argued the statute of limitations had expired well before the alleged victim reported the complaint.

In April, Songz was cleared in a s*xual assault investigation stemming from a Las Vegas incident that happened in November 2021. The singer will not face criminal charges following an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

‘The LVMPD has concluded the investigation into the s*xual assault allegations against Tremaine Neverson and determined that no criminal charges will be filed,’ the department revealed in a statement released via local 8newsnow.

‘If any new evidence comes to light, the case will be reopened for further investigation.’ Law enforcement officials confirmed no arrests were made at the time, and Songz cooperated with police throughout the investigation.

His attorneys told TMZ: ‘We are pleased that Trey Songz’ has been cleared of wrongdoing and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigation has officially been closed.’

They added: ‘We are grateful to the LVMPD for the professional police work done and their thorough investigation, which included findings of inconsistency in witness testimony and insufficient evidence. We are pleased that Trey can now return to what he does best, entertaining.’

The woman had been represented by lawyers Ariel Mitchell and George Vrabeck, who are involved in two other cases, in Miami and Nevada, in which Songz is accused of s*xual assault.

Somalia’s president appeals for International help after deadly bomb blasts by Al Shabaab terrorists that claimed 100 lives

Somalia’s president has issued an urgent plea for international help for wounded victims of devastating car bombings at the weekend that killed 100 people.

The attack on Saturday, October 29, wounded more than 300 people, and was the deadliest in the fragile Horn of Africa nation in five years.

The attack has been claimed by the Al-Shabaab jihadist group. During the attack, two cars packed with explosives blew up minutes apart near the city’s busy Zobe intersection, followed by gunfire.

Somalia has been mired in chaos since the fall of president Siad Barre’s military regime in 1991 and has one of the world’s weakest health systems after decades of conflict.

As at Monday, October 31, Bulldozers were still clearing the blast site in the capital Mogadishu in the hunt for bodies feared trapped under the rubble.

Al-Shabaab, an Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda said it had targeted the country’s ministry of education. The explosions tore through walls and shattered windows of nearby buildings, sending shrapnel flying and plumes of smoke and dust into the air.

The attack took place at the same junction where a truck packed with explosives blew up on October 14, 2017, killing 512 people and injuring more than 290, the deadliest attack in Somalia.

“We appeal for the international community, Somali brothers, and other Muslim brothers and or partners to send doctors to Somalia to help the hospitals treat the wounded people,”

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said in a statement .“We cannot airlift all these numbers of wounded people… anyone who can send us (help) we request to send us,” said Mohamud.

“The Somali nation and these terrorists are at war, as I speak now, there is fighting ongoing in many parts of the country,” Mohamud said. “We are at war with them, and we are killing each other.”

“We must get united in providing assistance to the families, children and parents of those who were martyred,” he said, lauding donations of water, food and clothes to survivors.

Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has ordered schools closed so that students can take part in national blood donation. Mohamud said he himself was among several hundred people who had donated blood to hospitals for the victims.

The World Health Organization said on Sunday it was ready to help the government treat the wounded and provide trauma care.

Al-Shabaab fighters have stepped up their attacks in Somalia since Mohamud was elected in May. After his election, Mohamud vowed an “all-out-war” on the Islamists.

In August, the group launched a 30-hour gun and bomb attack on the popular Hayat hotel in Mogadishu, killing 21 people and wounding 117.

The Uganda Prisons Services Spokesperson, Frank Mayanja Baine, also confirmed the incident in a statement. He said the two prison officers were allegedly shot dead by Wader No 16734 Otim Jacob who later tried to commit suicide but was subdued by other staff on duty and was detained.

According to the statement, the suspect Otim signed for a gun early morning to go for general duties but headed to the sentry where he first shot dead Abwot and when her colleague Nahamya heard the bullets and rushed to check what had happened, he was also gunned down.

Kanye West has claimed that he is being lynched by Masa (a terms used by black slaves to refer to their white masters) just because he expressed his frustrations.

The 45-year-old rapper shared a picture of Emmett Till, who was lynched for allegedly flirting with a white woman, and he said the same thing is being done to him by powerful businessmen.

He named Ari Emmanuel, the CEO of Endeavor, an entertainment and media agency that owns the UFC, and revealed that he and other powerful people have forced brands to drop him and dissociate from him.

He called it “economic lynching” and “digital lynching” and lamented that the students of his school, Donda Academy are suffering for it now because his school has also been boycotted and the kids are suffering for it.

Rapper, Diddy becomes a billionaire, replaces Kanye West as the second richest hip-hop artist

Diddy has become the second-richest hip-hop star, surpassing Kanye West and replacing him on the list of 2022’s wealthiest hip-hop artists.

The 52-year-old rapper and record producer is now officially declared a billionaire, with his net worth estimated at $1 billion.

The huge jump in Diddy’s earnings is attributed to his investment in Ciroc, which is valued at around $60 million.

Other assets, including Revolt and DeLeón Tequila, also contribute to his net worth.

The list is topped by Jay-Z, who has a net worth of $1.5 billion.

Kanye is now at the third spot on the list with a net worth of $500 million. Berner and Dr. Dre occupy the last two spots in the ranking with an estimated wealth of $410 million and $400 million, respectively.

The rapper apparently lost $1.5 billion last week after Adidas decided to part ways with him over his frequent antisemitic statements.

The brand pulled the plug on its deal with Ye’s apparel brand on October 25. The remaining of Kanye’s wealth now comes from his 5% stake in SKIMS, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s shape-wear brand, and through his earnings from his music career and real estate holdings.
