Why I’m not actively involved in politics – Burna boy

Grammy-award-winning singer, Burna Boy has explained why he is not actively involved in politics.

Burna Boy, who just released his sixth album ‘Love Damini’, in a podcast with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, said he is not naturally drawn to politics.

He said he has also decided not to be involved in politics and its many trickeries to the point of turning down mouth-watering offers greater men wouldn’t have resisted.

According to the “Twice as Tall” crooner, he has no faith in anyone attempting to play God, because there is a real God.

He noted that he has stayed away and does not expect anything from politicians while sticking firmly to his craft.

“I’ve turned down things that even greater men than me could not turn down. Because I don’t want any involvement in politics and trickery. And I’ve always made my stance clear where all of that is concerned, so as you know, the reason for surprise.

“It’s like drinking water. It’s natural for me. I can only speak for now because I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow as regards to the world, and who may come into the picture.

“I can’t really say, but I can speak for today. As of today, I don’t believe that there’s anybody that’s qualified enough to play God.

“It is not something that I blame anyone for. Because at the end of the day, there is God. So that’s who we should be looking up to. Everything else is going to be flawed.

“So for me, that is why I stick to music, and I don’t really… At this point, I feel like I’ve seen all there to see about the realities and everything,” he said.

Joy Adole: ‘Maid was killed, suicide staged’ – Court jails Lagos couple

Steve and Fortune Nwankwo have been sentenced to 16 years combined imprisonment for the manslaughter of their maid, Joy Adole.

An agent had taken the late teenager, an indigene of Benue State, to Lagos State for domestic work.

DAILY POST reported the incident which occurred in April 2020 at 18, Ogundola Street, Bariga.

Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, found the Nwankwos guilty of conspiracy and manslaughter.

The judge delivered judgment in police suit no ID/13178C/20 against the husband and wife.

Justice Ogala held that the prosecution proved the charges of manslaughter, conspiracy and attempt to pervert justice and misconduct beyond doubt.

The judge said the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses were strong and corroborated the fact that the maid died due to the beating by Fortune.

The first defendant, according to Justice Ogala, assaulted Joy which caused her death as she had not been feeling well before that day.

The court deplored that the convicts did not inform or call the family of the deceased from 5am when they found out she had died.

It was until noon that Steve called Joy’s sister to request her full name and other personal information before her embalming in the morgue.

Justice Ogala said Steve, having found out that his wife “had killed the deceased due to the beating, assisted her in perverting the course of justice by hanging the body”.

“The hanging was staged, the deceased was hanged by a rope and the position the police found her body did not depict suicide as her feet were on the floor”, she noted.

The defendants tampered with evidence when they embalmed the body, which made it difficult for the toxicologist to carry out an autopsy”, the judge added.

Fortune was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Steve bagged two years imprisonment.

Arrest attackers of Kuje Prison – Tinubu tells FG

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has called on relevant authorities to go after Tuesday’s attackers of Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lawan said the ninth National Assembly would continue to work assiduously and collaborate with the other arms of government towards stabilising the security and economy of the country to the relief of all Nigerians.

He said, “Since the inauguration of the ninth Assembly in 2019, we have enacted a good number of quality legislations to improve the security situation and boost the economy.

“We know that more needs to be done to overcome the challenges. The government is not relenting in addressing the challenges and we are confident they will soon become history.

“As we approach another election year, I earnestly urge Nigerians to look to the future with hope. We will continue to play our roles as a government and count on the prayers and support of the people.”

He said in a statement, “I wish to also task the government at all levels to play its constitutional role, by being upright and dutiful and prioritise the needs of the people they have taken an oath to serve. The unity, security and development of our country are sacrosanct.

“The expression of love and sacrifice symbolised by the Eid-el-Kabir celebration has a strong effect on the relationship between the government and the governed. It is incumbent on the government to optimally discharge its responsibilities to the people. It is only when this is done that there can be love between the government and the governed.

“As stakeholders, the citizens too should take a lesson from the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir by being up and doing in their civic responsibilities.

“As we inch towards the deadline on the ongoing voter registration exercise, the people must ensure that they play their roles by not just getting their permanent voter cards, but casting their votes for the best candidates in the elections next year.

The speaker, in  a statement, said, “Concerning the safety of lives and property, Lagos remains a shining light; a good example of a government that works for its people. With all the arms of the government working together, we have achieved greater feats in the area of security.

Terrorists fighting their sponsors – Pastor Giwa

Following the attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre by ISWAP and the attack on the advance team convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senior pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa has described the attack as revenge by the terrorists on their sponsors.

According the popular pastor, the terrorists have infiltrated all segments of the country, particularly the APC-led administration of President Buhari.

Giwa, who stated this on Friday, said, “I’m not surprised to read the news about the attack on the President. Fulani terrorists have taken over the government from the APC-led administration.

“I have persistently warned that President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC have nothing to offer Nigerians. Another election is on the way, and I hope that Nigerians won’t make another mistake.

“The terrorists are now fighting their sponsors. The equipment they bought for them before 2015 elections are now being used to terrorize the entire nation.

“It has gotten to the point that we have to defend ourselves with whatever we have because the government has failed to provide adequate security for its citizens.

“I have said it that there are terrorists sitting and eating with President Muhammadu Buhari. He needs to come clean to Nigerians.

“You can’t win the battle against terrorists when you are surrounded by terrorists.”

Toddler becomes an orphan as both parents are killed in Fourth of July parade shooting

A boy found alone and covered in blood during the Highland Park shooting in July 4 has been orphaned by the massacre.

Aiden McCarthy was lifted from underneath his father during the attack in the Chicago suburb, which has left seven people dead and 46 injured.

Strangers took him and he was eventually placed in the care of his grandparents, Misha and Nina Levebeg. Yesterday, July 5, it emerged that the boy’s parents, Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35, were among those killed during the Fourth of July parade.

Sine then more than $1,850,000 has been raised on a GoFundMe page set up to help Aiden’s family with “raising, caring for and supporting” him.

Aiden was found by Lauren Silva, 38, and her boyfriend after they heard gunshots as they were heading to Walker Bros restaurant for breakfast.

Silva told the Daily Beast they came out of a parking garage a few blocks away from the massacre just as the shooting started.

She said: “We were just opening the door to walk up the stairs and we heard it…boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. It sounded like someone was, like, pounding on the glass doors.”

Silva, along with her boyfriend and his son, began running toward those who were injured.

“My boyfriend handed me this little boy and said he was underneath this father who was shot in the leg,” she said.

“They were trying to stop the bleeding so I brought the boy downstairs into the garage.”

She said Aiden was wearing one shoe and that his sock was covered in blood. Once inside the garage she managed to wash the blood off him and clean his scrapes.

Silvia later handed Aiden to a family she was hiding in the garage with, who took him to hospital and later handed him to police.

Dana Ruder Ring, who was taking care of Aiden until 8pm local time posted the original photo of the boy to help identify him, Fox 32 Chicago reports.

Four of the others who were killed were named as Katherine Goldstein, 64; Jacquelyn Sundheim, 63; Stephen Straus, 88; and Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza, 78.

The musician, known as “Awake the Rapper” was arrested after a brief chase police chase. He is accused of firing into the crowd from a rooftop about 10 minutes into the Independence Day parade using a high-powered rifle.

Investigators say Crimo, 21, planned the attack for weeks, and it has since emerged he was interviewed by police in 2019 after threatening to “kill everyone” in his home.

So far this year, there have been 313 mass shootings in the US, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

The attack also killed former Brazilian Army soldier Douglas Burigo, 40, who returned to the bunker to find Thalita.

She was the only troop member left behind after the first missile strike took place, according to other fighters.

Thalita documented her conflict experience on her YouTube channel where her videos on fighting ISIS gained her 32,000 views.

Her videos reveal how she received sniper training when she joined the Peshmergas, the armed military forces of the independent Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Thalita’s brother Theo Rodrigo Viera described her as a hero with a vocation for saving lives and participating in humanitarian missions.

He explained that she had only been in Ukraine for three weeks, where she had been working as a rescuer as well as a sharpshooter.

She was also reportedly responsible for providing cover from advancing Russian forces.

After surviving a bombing in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Thalita explained to her family that she could not talk much as mobile phone activities were being monitored by Russian drones and would only call to let them know that she was fine.

The last time they spoke was last week Monday after Thalita had just moved to the city of Kharkiv.

Beyoncé has reportedly been running checks on producers and artists working on her upcoming album Renaissance, after one of her former collaborators was charged with rape.

The singer, 40, whose long-awaited new release will drop later this month, has allegedly rejected two songs from artists that have faced accusations of abuse and harassment.

It comes after Detail, who worked on Beyoncé’s 2013 hit Drunk In Love, was arrested in August 2020 after being charged with 15 counts of sexual assault. He since denied the claims.

A source told The Sun: ‘Beyonce was devastated when she found out Detail, one of her collaborators, was accused of rape and sexual assault.

‘She stopped working with him and her team now run #MeToo checks on any potential collaborators. Two songs from high-profile artists have been rejected because of allegations they are facing.

‘Although neither has been found guilty, she’s sending a clear message to the industry in the wake of troubling cases from people like R Kelly and Harvey Weinstein.’

The source added that while her decision has ‘rubbed people up the wrong way,’ she ‘doesn’t care’ because she ‘wants to set an example that any abuse shouldn’t be normalized.’

We killed Nkemdili because our deity needed virgin’s blood – Suspected ritualist confesses.

A suspected ritualist, who allegedly participated in the killing of one Miss Nkemdili Eze at Ede Oballa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Chidera Agbo, has said that she was sacrificed because their deity needed the blood of a virgin to be powerful.

Vanguard reports that Agbo made the confessional statement shortly after he was caught by the Neighborhood personnel in connection with the crime.

The suspect, who was burnt to death with his accomplice, Ifeanyi Onyishi, a.k.a, Aro bi n’agu, by an irate mob, added that Onyishi, who is a native doctor, asked him to bring Nkemdili to him for the sacrifice after he recommended her.

The Neighbourhood official quoted late Agbo as saying;

“Ifeanyi didn’t like the fact that I was being caught most of the time I went for robbery operations. He was looking for a way to fortify his deity. One day, he told me that he had brought an abandoned deity named Idenyi, to his shrine.

I was shocked to hear that from him. I asked him if he knew how to appease the deity. He equally told me that he needed the blood of a virgin to make the deity powerful. That was why he asked me to bring someone to her and I recommended Nkemdili.

So, there was a masquerade festival in my village. A day before the festival, I searched for Nkemdili but without success.

However, a day after the festival, I was in the bush smoking Indian hemp when she passed. I quickly notified Ifeanyi and he moved to the location with another suspect who I didn’t recognise.

“When they got there, his friend stopped her, while Ifeanyi covered her mouth and they took her into the bush. I followed them also.

“After the sacrifice, he promised he was going to settle me very well. He said he was going to sell a portion of his land to give me a huge sum of money that would make me not to expose him.”

Writer and gender equality activist, Solomon Buchi, has proposed to his girlfriend, Arike, after one year of dating.

He shared the good news on social media today July 6.

”Àríké said YES. We are engaged and we’ll be getting married!

On the 20th of June 2022(our one year dating anniversary), I asked the most awesome woman @arikeadeola.o, to marry me after a year of dating — one that came with some reconstruction, intentionality and obedience to God.

Adeola(@arikeadeola.o) — Àríké Mi, from the first week we spoke over that video call, I knew you were my wife. We’ve grown in the past 1 year plus, we’ve put in arduous work, we’ve had extremely difficult conversations, we’ve struggled, we’ve unlearned and relearned and we are still growing into graceful imperfection. Healthy relationships/marriages aren’t a walk in the park, but it is easier with you because you put in the effort.

I’ve been bedevilled with many pains and anxieties in my 26 years of existence, but with you, my worries dissipate. Literally. The longest time I’ve stayed without a panic attack was around you. Your love heals. You’re my favour and you fit into my forever.

I am proud to be your husband-to-be. I’m beyond enthralled with you in my life. I choose you, Àríké. In the multitude of others, na you. You’re my favour & I never knew how much I needed the beauty you brought until God gifted you to me.

Life is filled with uncertainties, but I’m pledging to keep loving you every day, even when it’s tough and inconvenient. I pledge to put you first and exemplify Godly headship. You’ll be the best version of yourself with me because I am submitted to God, and in Him, I will not lead you astray. I’ve been a purveyor of sagacious marriage values, and I can’t wait to live the reality with you by God’s grace.

Now, I can show you to the world. Finally. I eagerly waited for this moment. I’ve been your fiancé for 16 days now, and man, I can’t wait to build a godly marriage with you.

Ife mi. Ayanfe mi. Iwo o shey litemi, mi ni yin e nu naye naye, moshe Ileri ko e fi ife mi a to e.

Ah, you’ve made an Igbo man learn Yoruba. Not just Yoruba but Ondo. My Ondo princess! My London baby.

We have a wedding to plan.”

Abuja-Kaduna train: Bandits threaten to slaughter victims after 24 hours

Ansaru terrorists, a bandit group, which claimed responsibility for the abduction of Kaduna-Abuja train passengers early March, has again threatened to slaughter the remaining 51 victims.

DAILY POST reports that a few days ago, Tukur Mamu, a negotiator between the bandits and the Federal Government raised an alarm over the health condition of the victims, as they are being bitten by snakes and reptiles.

He later confirmed that one of the victims was shot, as a warning to hasten the response to the agreement between the Federal Government and the bandits.

However, in an audio in circulation, which is believed to be a voice of one of the group members, they threatened to slaughter the victims because the government failed to seek for their release.

A Kaduna based publisher, Tukur Mamu, a negotiator, confirmed to DAILY POST on Wednesday, that the audio was real and that the group had fixed Wednesday (today) to carry out the threat.

According to him, they became provoked on Monday after giving us another opportunity.

“I was crying and pleading with them that since there is a delay from the government, they should discuss with the family members directly to negotiate the victims’ release.

“Based on the plea, they agreed to negotiate directly with the victims’ families.

“But they said they are giving us till Wednesday, that if there was nothing concrete from those that are interested in the negotiation, they will start slaughtering some of the victims,” he said.

Megan Fox says she once asked fiance Machine Gun Kelly if he was breastfed as a child to understand his ‘psychology’ and ‘temperament’.

Megan Fox has opened up about an unusual conversation she had with her fiance, rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

The 36-year-old American actress was on the red carpet to support her 32-year-old fiance’s new Hulu documentary Life In Pink when she told E! that she asked MGK if he was breastfed as a child.

While it remains unclear if he was breastfed or not, Fox explained why she thought it was a ‘great question’ that helped her know MGK better.

‘It has a lot to do with your psychology and your temperament. So I ask things like that,’ Fox explained.

She added that it’s important for her that every question in a conversation can, ‘go deep right away’ instead of learning basics like favorite colors or films.

Fox added that she tries to learn as much as possible about someone she’s just getting to know, as early as possible.

‘If you know me and I know you, it’s impossible for me to not know almost everything about you,’ she admitted.

She even proved her wealth of knowledge about MGK when they took a couple’s quiz for British GQ last fall.
‘If you were my Jeopardy! partner you would honestly win every single category,’ MGK said of Fox.

‘You are an almanac, and encyclopedia and dictionary all in one,’ he added.

Fox and MGK started dating in June 2020, just a month after she filed for divorce from Brian Austin Green. In January 2022, the couple announced their engagement.

Microfinance firm disappears with customers’ funds, victims lament losses

There was an uproar at the Mowe Police Station, Ogun State, last Thursday, when some residents, who were allegedly defrauded by a microfinance company stormed the station.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the company promised to give its customers loans after deposits, but absconded after receiving payments from many people in the area.

When our reporter visited the police station, some of the victims were seen lamenting at the gate.

A victim, Funmilayo Adebayo, said, “About three of us jointly contributed N50,000 which we paid to them because we wanted a loan of N150,000. I suffered while I was pregnant to get the money that I gave them. Now that I have put to bed and I need it, the money has been lost.”

Another victim, who identified herself as Nike, said she needed a loan of N200,000 and paid N24,000 to the company.

“Mine is not even much compared to what some other people gave them. There was a woman that was crying at Lotto yesterday that she gave them N200,000 for a loan of N1m,” she added.

Another resident, Morenike Ajayi, who said she applied for a loan of N200,000, explained that the money was to boost her catering business.

She said, “All my hope was on this money because I withdrew the remaining money in my account, borrowed more money from one of my friends with the hope that once I get the loan, I will pay her back and put the remaining in my business. Now, these scammers have ruined all my plans. Where will I start from?”

In the company’s loan slip seen by our reporter, it was stated that for a client to access a loan of N50,000, a deposit of N5,000 will be paid; N12,000 for N100,000; N18,000 for N150,000 and N24,000 for N200,000.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said investigation was ongoing into the matter.

ASUU strike can end tomorrow – Lecturers give update

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said their industrial action will end immediately if the federal government addresses their concerns.

ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday night.

Osodeke claimed an agreement had been reached with the government, but it has not been signed.

According to him, ASUU’s insistence on using their own generated payment platform, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), is a key demand.

“As far as ASUU is concerned, the strike can end tomorrow.

“We have finished the negotiation. If the government calls us now to come and sign the agreement, we will be there tomorrow.

“Let the government tell us they have finished testing the UTAS and we have accepted it, then we will call off the strike.

“When will they sign the agreement? When will they accept UTAS? Those are the two questions we should ask the Nigerian government,” Osodeke said.
