Woman wakes up with Irish accent after throat surgery

An Australian woman has gone viral on TikTok after claiming that she woke up with an Irish accent following tonsil surgery.

Angela Yen, 27, had a tonsillectomy on April 19 and was confused when her Aussie accent reportedly turned into an Irish brogue 10 days after the procedure.

“I’ve never been to Ireland. I grew up in Australia and had an Aussie accent for the last 20 years since I moved here when I was 8 years old,” she told Storyful.

The Brisbane resident met with doctors and did research trying to figure out what happened to her normal accent.

Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki, a science author and commentator, weighed in on the debacle in a TikTok video explaining that Yen may have foreign accent syndrome.

The rare speech disorder causes a person to sound like they are speaking with an accent from another country. It has only been reported about 150 times, according to Kruszelnicki, and is normally caused by a brain injury. But Yen explained in a video that she has no neurological symptoms — and doctors are reportedly perplexed.

When I started singing, I was singing in a different sound and also talking words in a funny accent,” Yen recounted of the morning she discovered her new trick.

She told viewers that she’s found a neurologist with a specialty in stroke rehabilitation who is willing to help diagnose her.

Integrity and honesty are virtues that eventually pay off so longer as one is consistent in displaying said values.

A boy who hawks groundnut has become a good example of why it pays to be honest as it has opened unimaginable doors for him.

A Twitter user simply known as Ayinla recounted how the boy received scholarship from the former Managing Director of FCMB, Ladi Balogun after he rejected money given to him for his entire tray of groundnuts.

The boy had been called to sell groundnuts to players during an FCMB football novelty match and after he finished supplying, the MD asked how much it costs, he said N2,100 but he was offered N10,000 for everything.

However, the child hawker rejected the money, saying that he would not be able to explain it to his mother.

His honesty impressed Balogun, who then asked to see his mother and offered him scholarship.

Ayinla who shared the story via Twitter, celebrated the boy for holding on to values even though his father late and they have been living under unfavourable conditions.

Read the story below:

A boy was selling groundnut to FCMB footballers who were about playing a novelty match. The MD was in attendance and everyone was in a joyous mood. They called the boy and asked him to sell all the groundnut to the footballers.

After he gave them the groundnut , he was asked the price and he said everything was N2,100.00k, Ladi asked his PA to give him 10k but the small boy refused saying he doesn’t know how to explain to his mom where he got 10k instead of 2,100.

He refused the money that his mother will not accept it. Ladi was touched, he collected the money back from him and asked him to go and bring his mom.

The mother was afraid and was crying but Ladi told him what happened and how impressed he was with the boy’s upbringing. The boy was eventually given a scholarship for his uprightness and integrity.

This boy’s father is late and was brought up by his mother with other siblings. Despite their condition, he still held on strongly to their family values.

My submission, everything is from the home, if the home is good, the society will be good and if the home is bad, the society will be bad.

All our societal and national problems started from the home. Overall, the family system has broken down.

I always say to those who care to listen, let’s start from the home.

I copied this post from a WhatsApp group without having anyone in mind.

#EndSARS: Drama as SARS brutality victim rejects N7.5m compensation because it’s ‘not enough’

There was drama during the sitting of the Lagos state judicial panel on Tuesday, when Ndukwe Ekekwe, a petitioner who was paralysed as a result of police brutality, was awarded compensation.

Doris Okuwobi, the panel chairperson, awarded the sum of N7.5 million to the petitioner on Tuesday.

The petitioner, who is a shop owner at Alaba international market, had told the panel how officers of the now-disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS) came to his shop in 2018 and threw him from a two-storey building, leaving his spinal cord damaged.

Immediately the announcement of the compensation sum was made, the petitioner and his mother reacted, saying the money is not enough.

The petitioner, who appeared before the panel on a wheelchair, said he spent more than N30 million to treat himself, adding that his shop has become empty.

“Maybe they think I’m an illiterate. All those investments, I sold all of them. My shop is currently empty. I sold everything. I spent everything to take care of myself in the hospital. What is N7.5 million?” the petitioner queried.

The aged mother of the petitioner also created a mild drama at the panel as she was shouting, saying she had also sold some landed properties to ensure that her son was able to get back on his feet.

Amid the drama, the petitioner and his mother angrily left the courtroom to continue their protest.

Outside the courtroom, the petitioner’s counsel appealed to him to enter the courtroom and collect his cheque from the panel.

Presenting the N7.5 million cheque to the petitioner, Okuwobi urged him to accept the compensation.
