2023: Sowore picks running mate, vows to defeat Kwankwaso, Atiku, Obi in Kano

Mr Sowore says his running mate does not have any certificate problem like some presidential hopefuls in the country.

The Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Friday, said his party currently stands a better chance at victory in Kano State compared to other contenders in the 2023 general elections.

He disclosed this in Abuja during the official announcement of Haruna Magashi as his running mate in the coming election.

Mr Sowore, flanked by some members of the AAC, said both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition, PDP, will gallantly lose to his party given the performance of the former and the internal crisis in the latter.

“We hope to defeat APC (All Progressives Congress) over there (Kano) because the governor has messed up; we know that we will defeat PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), that’s the party that’s imploding as we speak,” the Sahara Reporters publisher boasted in an almost three minutes video shared across his social media account.

Despite the recent acceptance enjoyed by Rabiu Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano, both the ruling APC and PDP still command the largest percentage of supporters in the state.

Not ruling the former Kano governor out of his major contenders in the state, Mr Sowore said the influence of his running mate, Mr Magashi, is enough to deliver Kano for AAC while Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP) stands no chance at all in the state.

“We don’t need to talk about the Labour Party in Kano because the party doesn’t exist.

“We believe that we will defeat Alhaji Kwankwaso and his party, the NNPP (New Nigeria Peoples Party) in Kano because we have got someone who is from there,” the AAC presidential candidate boasted.

With veiled reference to the alleged missing credentials of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and his placeholder running mate, Kabir Masari, Mr Sowore assured that the documents of his running mate were duly submitted to INEC.

The Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Friday, said his party currently stands a better chance at victory in Kano State compared to other contenders in the 2023 general elections.

While the primary and secondary certificates of Mr Tinubu were not accounted for in the personal credentials published last week by the INEC for scrutiny, similar controversies have continued to trail that of his running mate.

Mr Masari, in a court affidavit attached to his personal credentials published, claimed to have misplaced his Grade II certificate from Katsina Teachers College, his primary school certificate among other vital documents years back.

Mr Sowore vouched for his running mate, saying Nigerians would not have to worry because “our Vice-president candidate has his certificates intact.”

“His certificates have not been eaten by goats or snakes and they are not missing. We will make it public as soon as possible,” he mockingly said.

Presidential aspirant, Sowore holds campaign inside Ondo river

Supporters of Omoyele Sowore in Ondo state, trooped out enmasse on Tuesday to welcome the presidential hopeful of the African Action Congress (AAC).

The human rights activist paid a visit to his home state and took his campaign to Ondo Lake, where he playfully plunged in with his supporters.

According to Sahara Reporters, Sowore, who addressed his supporters inside the lake, emphasised the importance of tourism to any economy.

He said: “This is where we go fishing and farming in our part of the world. It is one of the most beautiful places you can be in the country and even in the world.

“This is the reason why we keep talking about tourism, imagine in this lake, there are chalets, places where people can come and visit and stay for weeks.

They can also fish, every fish here is natural. The only problem is oil pollution from the Niger Delta Area and people can no longer drink the water here. Everything you see here is natural.

“This is how it has always been and this is a perfect ecosystem, it is an environment that suits the dream of environmentalists, we also have farmlands around the river.

“This lake goes all the way to the Niger Delta region. This is a lovely place to be and anytime I come around, I always love to be here because this is for me, a home.

“I heard the governor of Ondo State, in one of their jamborees was saying they want to create a fish pond inside the lake, they don’t have sense.”

Osinbajo’s declaration speech a set of horrible lies —Sowore

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s declaration to run for the presidency in 2023 as a set of nauseating lies, adding that his speech was insulting.

Yemi Osinbajo on Monday formally declared his intention to run for presidency in the 2023 general elections.

In his declaration speech, the Vice President promised to consolidate on the achievements of his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, and lead the country in the same leadership philosophy as his.

He wrote: “If by the grace of God and the will of the people, I am given the opportunity, then I believe that first, we must complete what we have started.

“We will build on the foundation laid by our predecessors. We will need to move, with much speed, intentionality, and perseverance, towards the vision of a prosperous, stable, and secure nation”, he added.

Sowore, who reacted through his verified Twitter handle, slammed the Vice President for putting together a set of lies as done by other presidential aspirants.

He added that the Vice President goofed by planning to build on the achievements of his boss.

He wrote: “President Yemi Osinbajo’s declaration speech is the most nauseating set of lies ever packaged! He even said he plans to build on the success of President Muhammadu Buhari regime. What an insult?

‘I will mount pressure on security agents to find your brother’s killers, Keyamo tells Sowore

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, said on Saturday would mount relentless pressure on security operatives to track down suspected killers of Olajide Sowore, younger brother of Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore.

Olajide, an undergraduate student of Pharmacy at the Igbinedion University, Okada, was killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen along the Benin-Lagos highway in Okada, Edo State, on Saturday morning.

The minister stated this in a condolence message to the co-convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement.

He wrote: “It is quite regrettable that such a young man would be cut down in his prime by criminal elements.

“I and other compatriots would be pressurising the law-enforcement agents to track down these killers without delay and bring them to justice. This, and many others around the country, must be checkmated with all arsenals at our disposal.

“I urge you to take heart and remain committed to helping the nation to find a lasting solution to some of these numerous challenges.”

The Edo State Police Command had in a statement said the attackers also kidnapped five people from the scene.
