Magnum, P.I.’ star, Roger E. Mosley dies at 83 after a car crash

American actor, Roger E. Mosley, best known for his role on the action crime series “Magnum, P.I.,” has died at the age of 83.

Mosley died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 7, as a result of injuries he sustained in a car accident in Lynwood, California, on Thursday, Mosley’s daughter Ch-a Mosley. The actor died surrounded by family after the car accident had left him paralyzed from the shoulders down and in critical condition.

“We could never mourn such an amazing man. He would HATE any crying done in his name. It is time to celebrate the legacy he left for us all,” his daughter said as she announced his death. “I love you daddy. You loved me too. My heart is heavy but I am strong. I will care for mommy, your love of almost 60 years. You raised me well and she is in good hands. Rest easy.” She added Mosley starred in more than 150 episodes of “Magnum, P.I.” alongside Tom Selleck in the crime-adventure series, which aired for eight seasons from 1980 until 1988. Mosley also made an appearance in a more recent reboot of the hit show, as another character, John Booky, according to his IMDb page.

In addition to “Magnum, P.I.,” the Los Angeles native played the role of Coach Ricketts in the 1990s sitcom “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.”

He also appeared on “Sanford and Son,” “Love Boat,” “Kojak,” “The Rockford Files,” “Starsky and Hutch” and dozens of other TV series. Mosley is survived by his wife Antoinette “Toni” and three children.

Woman allegedly killed by homeless man she allowed to stay in her home

A woman was shot dead in a broad-daylight attack in Queens, New York, and police allege she was killed by a homeless man who’d been staying at her apartment. Sydney Lugo, 24, had been arguing with the man, Tariak Stykes, 34, near 109th Avenue and 120th Street in South Ozone Park around 9:20 a.m. on Monday, August 1, when he allegedly shot her in the right arm, cops said.

She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries, police said on Tuesday, August 2.

Lugo, who lived in an apartment building close to the scene, had allowed Stykes to stay with her temporarily, cops said. The two were arguing when Stykes allegedly opened fire, but the exact nature of their squabble is unclear, police said. Styles was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said.

Brazilian Hulk’ and TikTok star, Valdir Segato who injected himself with life-threatening oil to create 23-inch biceps, dies on his 55th birthday

A Brazilian bodybuilder and TikTok star who went viral by injecting himself with life-threatening oil to create 23-inch biceps, has died on his 55th birthday in Ribeirao Preto.

Valdir Segato from Sao Paulo, who was inspired by the physiques of Arnold Schwarzenegger and fictional characters like The Hulk, used synthol injections for years despite risking strokes and infections to produce hulking biceps, pectorals, and back muscles.

According to Mail Online, Segato was warned he faced amputation or nerve damage, and muscle disfigurement six years ago but continued to use the injections to bulk himself out.

The former construction worker even vowed that he wanted to get even bigger.Speaking in 2016, he said: ‘They call me Hulk, Schwarzenegger and He-Man all the time and I like that. I’ve doubled my biceps but I still want to be bigger.’He proudly posted images and videos to social media, calling himself ‘Valdir Synthol’ on Instagram.

According to local media, he died after after being taken to hospital complaining about shortness of breathOne man named Moisés da Conceição da Silva said on the day Segato died, he had asked his mother for help, complaining about a shortness of breath.It was around 6 am, more or less.

He came crawling through the back house and came to the front. Then he knocked on my mother’s window, knocked, knocked, then she woke up and he said ‘help me, help me because I’m dying,” Moisés said, according to Brazil’s Globo news publication.

He was taken to the North Emergency Care Unit (UPA) – a medical facility in the city but could not be saved. ‘They put him in the car and then the neighbour went to the UPA. He arrived at the UPA, he fell at the reception, having a heart attack. I think he had a heart attack’, Moisés told the news website.

Moisés’ brother, Jadson da Conceição, told Globo that this was not the first time Segatohad to be rushed to hospital, and had previously complained of shortness of breath. The first time, he said, they were able to get him to the hospital on time. This time, he said, there was no saving him.

Star Trek’ star, Nichelle Nichols, dies at 89.

Nichelle Nichols, a groundbreaking Black actress who played communications officer Nyota Uhura with cool authority on the popular 1960s series “Star Trek,” has died at 89.Her son, Kyle Johnson, announced the death on the official uhura.com website, saying, “Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural causes and passed away. Her light, however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain.”A family spokesman said Nichols died in Silver City, New Mexico, where she had been living with her son.Tributes poured in quickly, including from a long list of devoted “Trekkies.”

William Shatner, who played the USS Enterprise’s Captain James T. Kirk, sent his condolences to Nichols’ family.“She was a beautiful woman & played an admirable character that did so much for redefining social issues both here in the US & throughout the world. I will certainly miss her.”

George Takei, who as helmsman Sulu shared the bridge with Lieutenant Uhura, called her “trailblazing and incomparable.

Former LASU Vice Chancellor, Hussein, Dies.

The former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Lateef Akanni Hussein is dead. According to a statement on the official LASU page on Facebook on Monday, Hussein died after a brief illness on Sunday, 31st July, 2022 aged 75.

Prof. Hussein, a professor of Physics was the sixth Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University; he served between 2005 and 2011. Hussein will be buried on Monday according to Islamic rites.

Today, 20th of October, 2021 is a sad day for many Nigerians as it marks one year since peaceful protesters demanding an end to police brutality were shot at, leaving many wounded and over a dozen killed.

The incident has left a sour taste in the mouths of victims, families and Nigerians who watched the horrid incident that took place on a Tuesday night at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos state.

The Instagram Live videos from that night, captured military men opening fire on the youths protesting under the #EndSARS banner and causing serious casualties.

Former Delta Acting Governor, Sam Obi Is Dead.

Sam Obi, a former speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and acting governor of the state, is dead .Obi hails from Ibiegwa quarters, Ute-Okpu community, Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state and represented his constituency from 2007 to 2015.

The ex-acting governor died in his Asaba residence in the early hours of Saturday following an undisclosed ailment he had been battling for some years.Obi was flown abroad for treatment following a deteriorating health-related issue in 2019.
Obi, who was Speaker of the state House Assembly in 2010, was sworn-in as acting governor of the state following an Appeal Court nullification of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s election pending the re-run election.

Kidnappers attack funeral convoy in Edo, shoot driver dead

It was horrific on Monday in Edo when kidnappers attacked a Lagos-Enugu funeral convoy and seized the deceased’s younger brother.
The gunmen also fired shots at the convoy, badly damaging the ambulance and killing the driver of the vehicle behind the ambulance.
The incident occurred along the Benin bypass, very close to Ahor, which recently gained notoriety for frequent kidnappings.


Driver of the ambulance with registration number Lagos KRD 782 GO, Mr. Salami Orijiwa, said he and others left Lagos at 6 am to make the journey early to Enugu.
He said: “When I sighted the men on the road, I thought they were policemen because one of them was holding a gun on his right hand while another on the left side held a cutlass.


“Suddenly, I saw another man in front of the vehicle, who pointed a gun at us and shot. I quickly bent down but I lost control, veered into the bush and fell into a ditch. The bullet hit the vehicle behind me and the driver died on the spot.”
The Nation learnt the kidnappers later contacted family of the victim, demanding N5 million ransom.
Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), could not be reached for comment as at press time.

AAUA shut till further notice as mother of 3 siblings killed in Akungba accident reportedly dies from shock.

The management of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba- Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, on Sunday ordered the closure of the institution until further notice following a fatal accident outside campus that claimed the lives of students.

The Akungba accident occurred on Saturday, Jan 23. A cement-laden truck rammed into shops opposite the institution, resulting in the death of at least nine, 3 of whom are related.

According to Joe Igbokwe, a former spokesman for the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, the mother of the three siblings killed in the crash also died of shock on Saturday after hearing the sad news about her children.

Students of AAUA came out to protest the death of their colleagues following the accident and this led to an order to close the institution for the meantime.

The directive to close down the school was contained in a circular issued by the acting Registrar, Mr Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa.

The circular read,

“Further to our circular of Saturday, January 23, 2021 and the attendant protest by students on Sunday, January 24, 2021, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, on behalf of the Senate, has directed that the university be closed with immediate effect until further notice.”

“All students are therefore advised to vacate the campus latest by 6pm today, Sunday, January 24, 2021.”

Man mourns his 3 siblings who died after a truck rammed into their mother’s shop in Ondo.

It was a black Saturday on Jan, 23, as a truck rammed into stores, killing traders and students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba- Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, Nigeria.

Of the deceased, three are said to be siblings. A relative to the 3 dead siblings has gone on Facebook to mourn them.

The dead siblings are Oluwaseun Ojinni (aka Pope), Ben Ojinni (aka Benayo), and Seun Ojinni (aka Topmost).

According to their relative Ojinni Charles, Oluwaseun Ojinni just got married not up to a month ago and his wife is expecting a baby.

Course mates and friends have also been mourning the dead on Twitter.

Zimbabwe Foreign Affairs Minister , Moyo is Dead.

Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo, has died, with details on the circumstance around his death unclear.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa eulogised Mr Moyo as a “devoted public servant and a true hero”:

Mr Moyo, a major general, was the face of the military takeover which ousted former President Robert Mugabe.

On the night of the coup d’etat, he appeared on television, in uniform, to ask Zimbabweans to remain calm and assure them that only “criminals” were being targeted.

Two cabinet ministers, Ellan Gwaradzimba and Perrance Shiri, have died over the last six months. Mr Shiri died from Covid-19.

President Mnangagwa took to Twitter and said: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce Foreign Minister Dr SB Moyo has died.

“Zimbabwe has lost a devoted public servant and a true hero, and I have lost a friend. He fought his entire life so that Zimbabwe could be free.

“May he rest in peace.”

Kemi Olunloyo bereaved, as house help died.

Bereaved Kemi Olunloyo took to the social media to share a video about the death of someone close to her.

She wrote;

“Pls pray for me. I AM bereaved. Someone close to me DIED. The body will be moved to the mortuary today. I could not sleep. I put together this video in her memory. Rest in peace Mary. Former Vice Chairman Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Otunba Eddie Aderinokun is dead.He passed on January 3 at 80, following a brief illness.

A statement by his brother Chief Kayode Aderinokun reads:”With great sadness, but with submission to the will of God, we announce the passing on to glory of our beloved Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Otunba Eddie, Olayiwola Aderinokun on the 3rd of January 2021, following a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Family.”

Until his death, the late Aderinokun, a journalist and sports enthusiast was a major benefactor of ANA Lagos chapter.

He founded The Clusters, a pop group in Lagos in the late sixties and featured great talents such as Berkeley Jones (guitarist), Tony Amadi, Linus Okechi and Jibade Thomas. Aderinokun was an enigmatic and resourceful patron of the Committee for Relevant Arts (CORA) and its projects.
