My father sent police after me when I left school for music – Davido

Ace singer-songwriter and music executive, David Adeleke aka Davido, has revealed he clashed with his father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke when he left school for music.

The multiple award-winning musician made the disclosure during an interview with Earn Your Leisure.

Davido recounted how his dad went to the extent of shutting down his shows, and even sent the police after him after discovering he had left school to focus on music.

In his words; “I wasn’t in school. I was facing music full time and over the years, he found out that I wasn’t in school and there was a whole lot of drama. I left school. I went back to the city and then my dad was chasing me with the police. Yes, they (the police) were coming after me to go back to school. Any show he (my dad) saw me on, on a flier or whatever, he was shutting the show down”.

Davido further revealed that his 2012 hit song, Dami Duro, was the turning point in his relationship with his dad.

According to the singer, when his dad realized how big his brand had become, they made a deal that allowed him to attend shows when he wasn’t in classes.

“Then I dropped this song, Dami Duro and the song became so big that even the president was singing it. Even people my dad could not get to, was singing it. After two-three years, I got a degree in business management and music,” he said.

Drama as police arrest corp members in Lagos for driving Benz

Officers of the Lagos state Police Command on Wednesday, allegedly arrested three uniformed members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in the state.

According to an eyewitness identified as David @themccoyman on Twitter, some officers whisked away the corp members who were in a Mercedes Benz outside at the venue for their community Development Service (CDS). Eti-Osa Local Government office, Lagos.

He revealed that the dramatic incident happened in seconds, and the officers attempted to drive away with the Benz but were stopped.

He also said they were able to secure the release of two of the corp members.

David, in a follow-up tweet, said that the third NYSC member was eventually released upon intervention from other corp members.

Sharing a photo, he wrote; ”Supposed police officers just kidnapped three uniformed “corpers”, on CDS day, in front of the Local Government Office at Eti-Osa, Lagos. We were able to immediately recover two of them but one is still missing. All of this happened in seconds, in broad day light!

Hours later, he added; Please, this kidnapped corper has since been released. Well done to everyone who stood gallant this morning.

My update is late because my phone died.

Shocking event though. All my fingers are pointed to the Nigerian Police Force and a certain peace-loving Governor.

No, I will not refer to this as an arrest. It was a kidnap.

These corpers were sitting peacefully in their Benz. They were suddenly surrounded by men (in regular clothes) who pointed a gun at them and yanked them from said Benz.

Their offence? “Why is a corper driving a Benz?”

Why autopsy of dead OAU student is delayed – Police

The Osun State police command said on Sunday the autopsy on the slain post-graduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, was delayed because his family wanted to be part of the process.

The command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, who disclosed this to journalists in Osogbo, said the autopsy would now be carried out on Monday at Osun University Teaching Hospital in the state capital.

Opalola, however, said the deceased’s body was deposited at UTH not at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) as she mentioned earlier.

She said: “The family has indicated that they will be available on Monday (today) for the conduct of the autopsy.

“I will like to add that the deceased’s family members were equally present when the remains of the deceased were exhumed.

The police, a pathologist, and family members of the deceased witnessed the exhumation of the body and the family members can attest to it that no part of the deceased’s body was missing.”

Adegoke, who was on his way to Osun for an examination at OAU Distance Learning Centre, in Moro, Ife North Local Government Area when he was declared missing on November 7.

Police later evacuated the deceased’s remains from a forest along Ede/Ife road.

Six suspects who were said to be staff of Hilton Hotels and Resort, Ile-Ife, and the owner, Mr. Ramon Adedoyin, were arrested after the investigation had revealed that the late Adegoke checked into the facility before he was declared missing.

Ortom decries police handling of Vanguard reporter’s death, demands probe of incident

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Saturday knocked the Nigeria Police over the handling of the death of Vanguard Newspaper reporter, Henry Tordue Salem, whose body was discovered last Thursday, three weeks after he was declared missing.

The police had in a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said Salem was killed by a hit-and-run driver in the Mabushi area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The reporter’s body, according to the police, was discovered at the Wuse General Hospital mortuary after a painstaking investigation.

But in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nat Ikyur, the governor slammed the police for parading the suspected killer of the Benue-born Salem.

He said the discovery of the reporter’s remains was “suspicious” and demanded a thorough investigation of the incident by a competent body.

Ortom also appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS) and other sister agencies to do everything possible to unravel the mystery surrounding the gruesome murder of the journalist.

He expressed regret that a Benue son would suddenly disappear only to be found dead by unidentified persons in an undisclosed location in Abuja.

The statement read: “He (Ortom) says such a mysterious recovery of the body of the deceased reporter was suspicious and deserves to be thoroughly investigated.

“The governor appeals to the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS) and other sister agencies to do everything possible to unravel the mystery surrounding the gruesome murder of the Benue-born journalist.

Governor Ortom reiterates that the Benue State Government is always committed to the safety of all her citizens both at home and in the diaspora and will not rest on its oars until the perpetrators of this heinous act do not go unpunished.”

Police arrests woman for throwing daughters inside well in Osun

Police operatives in Osun State have arrested a middle-aged for allegedly throwing her two daughters inside a well in the state.

The spokesman of the Osun State Fire Service, Ibrahim Adekunle, who confirmed this to journalists in Osogbo, said the incident happened at Ibuaje community in the state capital.

Adekunle said the well had 24 rings and was filled with water, adding that the Fire Service personnel are making frantic efforts to rescue the girls.

Residents of the community told journalists the woman had earlier complained of frustration over her inability to cater for the children.

One of the residents said: “She (the woman) first threw the elder one that is seven years old and then threw the younger one that is five years old into the well at about 2:00 p.m. today (Tuesday).’

The alarmed residents quickly alerted men of the state fire service who mobilized to the area and tried to rescue the two girls.

The girls’ mother, who was incoherent in her statement, said she was living abroad and was later deported back to the country.

The woman said she was frustrated because of hardship in Nigeria.

Police denies recalling Kyari from suspension

The Nigerian Police Force on Sunday denied recalling the suspended Head of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari.

Reports had said Kyari who was suspended by the police authorities on August 1 over his indictment for alleged link with the suspended fraudster, Ramon Abass aka Hushpuppi, had been recalled.

The United States District Court for the Central District of California had in July issued a warrant of arrest on Kyari and five others over an alleged link with the suspected fraudster.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) alleged that the police officer collected money from Hushpuppi to detain one of his partners in Nigeria.

In a brief chat with journalists in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, described reports on the police officer’s recall as unfounded.

Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala has alleged that Delta State politician, Prince Kpokpogri who is the former partner of her colleague, Tonto Dikeh has been arrested and detained by the police.

Doris Ogala hinted this via her Instagram page during the early hours of today, Tuesday, October 20.

Though she never mentioned names, she however said “The God of Tonto has brought down fire”. Writing further, she hinted that the politician will be sleeping in cell until Wednesday.

Police arraigns man for child defilement in Osun

Police on Monday arraigned one Kasali Agbeleye at the Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osun State for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl in the state.

Kasali, 35, was arraigned on a two-count charge of defilement and indecent assault of a minor by the police.

The police prosecutor, John Idoko, told the court that the incident occurred on September 25 at the Centenary Hall Centre in the Otan-Ayegbaju area of the state.

The offences, according to him, were contrary to sections 31(1)(2) of the Child’s Rights Laws of Osun State, 2007 and Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002 and punishable under the same.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, A. A. Adebayo, ordered that the case be transferred to Iragbiji Magistrate’s Court.

He also directed that the defendant be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till November 10 for hearing.

Police to recruit 20,000 junior officers – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, said on Tuesday the Force would soon begin the recruitment of 20,000 junior police officers across the country.

The IGP stated this during his visit to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.

Baba said the Nigerian police has every intention to increase its strength in terms of junior officers’ recruitment.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the commencement of the recruitment exercise.

He assured the state government that every local government area would benefit from the exercise, saying the recruited officers would serve in their respective local government areas after training.

According to the IGP, the recruitment exercise will not only expand the capacity of the force in combating crime, but also emboldened its community policing strategy.

Baba said his visit was to interact with the police personnel to boost their morale after the #EndSARS protest.

He implored the governor to continue supporting the police.

Responding, Makinde informed the IGP that the Oyo State police command had been cooperating with the people of the state and other security agencies.

“Over these few months, with the leadership of the police in the state, we have serious cooperation and the inter-agency rivalry has been reduced to the barest minimum in the state.

“We also know that this is a challenging period for the country, the resources are dwindling, but we have challenges all over, especially the insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, kidnapping in the South, and ethnic tension everywhere.

So, we have to keep supporting the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

Police arrests ex-Ogun lawmaker for alleged possession of firearms, threat to life

Police on Thursday arrested a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Joseph Adegbesan, and two other persons for alleged cultism, threat to life, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The former lawmaker was arrested by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team from Force Headquarters in Abuja following a petition sent to the police authorities by a lawmaker representing the Ijebu North ll State Constituency, Oludare Kadiri.

Kadiri, a former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, had in the petition accused Adegbesan of hiring cultists to kill him.

The other persons arrested by the police were Muibi Olufodun and one Samson.

The men, who were picked up from different parts of the state, had since been whisked to Lagos by the police.

Police warns against night prayer in Ogun

The Ogun State police command on Sunday warned the residents against organizing night prayer sessions, especially at forest areas in the state in order not to fall prey to kidnappers.

The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made the call in a statement in Ota, expressed concern that some people in the state are still organizing night prayer sessions despite the command’s warning on the danger of such practice.

He said: “However, in as much as the command is not oblivious of right to freedom of religion, it is worthy of note that the present security situation in the country does not encourage prayer sessions in isolated places.”

He appealed to the people of the state to refrain from creating opportunities for kidnappers to operate, saying the command was working assiduously to rid the state of criminals who had turned kidnapping into business.

The Nigeria Police force has arrested a suspected rapist, Imoleayo Adekoya who forcefully had sex with a 27-year old lady.

The suspect confessed that he raped her because she refused to greet him.

Recounting the sordid incident, the victim said on August 27, 2021, she was on her way back from her family house, when Imoleayo stopped her for not greeting him.

The man collected her phone, beat her and then dragged her to a corner where he raped her.

Imoleayo blamed his actions on having consumed alcoholic drinks and Indian hemp.

Zamfara new security measures not politically-motivated – Police

The Zamfara Police Command has dismissed insinuations that recent security measures taken by the state government were politically motivated.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkana, made the clarification in a statement issued on Sunday in Gusau.

Governor Bello Matawalle had on Friday announced seven drastic security measures in a bid to check the worsening security situation in the state.

These measures include the ban of weekly markets across the state, the sale of fuel in jerry cans, and the restriction on the operations of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in Gusau and other parts of the state, among others.

Elkana said: “The new security measures are not politically motivated. Rather, they are in the best interest of the state of the people of the state.”

The police commissioner directed police personnel to ensure full enforcement of the security measures.

He noted that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, would begin the enforcement of the security measures on August 30.

He added: “It will be recalled that on August 27, Governor Matawalle, in his determination to stem the activities of criminal elements in the state, had announced about seven proactive security measures.

“We are going to constitute a joint task force which will be responsible for the full enforcement of the directives.

“We will not tolerate attempt by any person or group of persons to contravene any of these measures, as we are fully committed to ensuring that the full wrath of the law is applied to offenders.”

He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and collaborate with security agencies in the efforts at restoring peace and security in the state.

Police kills four hoodlums in Osun

Police operatives in Osun State on Wednesday killed four hoodlums at the Ilesha area of the state.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the development in a statement in Osogbo on Thursday, said the gunmen ambushed a vehicle conveying murder suspects to a correctional centre in the town.

According to her, the vehicle was attacked after it developed a fault at Osunjela River along the Osogbo-Ilesa Road.

She said auto mechanics were working on the vehicle when the criminals, emerged from bushes on motorcycles, and shot sporadically in a bid to free the suspects.

Opalola said: “In the ensuing gun duel between the gunmen and the police, the hoodlums abandoned their motorcycle and fled into the bush.

Three locally made guns, one pump action gun; two cut-to-size barrel guns with fourteen live cartridges were recovered from the assailants.

“Three out of four of the hoodlums died from gunshot wounds at a hospital in Osogbo while the body of the fourth suspect was recovered from the bush.

“When we combed the bush for possible arrest of the fleeing suspects, the dead body of one of the attackers was recovered with bullets wounds.

“While searching his body, two live cartridges and a piece of paper with an incantation written in the Yoruba language with the names of the perpetrators were found in his pocket.”

Zamfara Police confirms rescue of 12 villagers abducted by bandits

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed its operatives have rescued 11 villagers abducted from Yakofoji village on Aug. 12.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Muhammed Shehu in Gusau.

Shehu also said the operatives rescued the Chief Security Officer of College of Health Technology, Tsafe.

The statement revealed that the successes recorded followed ongoing search and rescue operations by the command across the state.

The effort that led to the unconditional rescue was sequel to the report of abduction of 11 persons by some group of hoodlums suspected to be bandits at Yarkofoji village in Bakura LGA on 12th August 2021.

“In a related development, the command has succeeded in the unconditional rescue of Chief Security Officer of the College of Health Technology, Tsafe.

“The report of his abduction was reported to the police at the early hours of 18th August 2021, when a group of hoodlums went to his house at around 04:00hrs and abducted him.

Police search and rescue team swung into action by combing the surrounding forest. Luckily enough, the victim was rescued safely,” it said.

According to the statement, the search and rescue strategy employed by the Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkana, led to the successful rescue of the abducted victims without any ransom paid.

“The commissioner of police congratulated the victims for regaining their freedom and urged them to always be conscious of their security and report any suspicious person to the police or any nearest security outfit for a prompt response.

“All the victims have been taken to the hospital for medical checks, later debriefed by the Police and reunited with their families.

“The CP further assures the people of the state about the ongoing efforts of the command to rescue other victims currently in captivity, so that lives and properties can be adequately protected,” the statement added.

Probe panel yet to submit findings on Kyari – Police

The police on Monday night dismissed reports that the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) set up by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, to investigate the bribery allegation against the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, has submitted its findings on the matter.

The IGP set up the panel two weeks ago to probe Kyari over his alleged involvement in a $1.1 million fraud by suspected fraudster, Abbas Ramon aka Hushpuppi, and four others.

The four-man panel is headed by the Deputy Inspector -General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), Joseph Egbunike.

There were reports that the team submitted its findings to the IGP on Monday.

However, in a statement posted on its verified Facebook page on Tuesday night and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, the police urged Nigerians to disregard the reports.

The statement read: “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public that the probe into the alleged indictment of DCP Abba Kyari by the FBI, being conducted by the NPF Special Investigation Panel (SIP), is still ongoing.

“Members of the public are enjoined to note that the panel has not submitted its report to the Inspector-General of Police as being wrongly reported in some news outlet and online platforms.

“The Force hereby reassures the public that the outcome of investigations by the probe panel would be communicated accordingly upon conclusion of the investigations.”

Police arraigns 28-year-old man for alleged abduction of two men in Ekiti

Police on Monday arraigned a 28-year-old man, Akinola Femi, at the Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court in Ekiti State over the alleged abduction of two women in the state.

Police arraigned Femi on a one-count charge of kidnapping.

The police prosecutor, Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendant abducted the women – Mrs. Temitope Orisan and Miss Feyi Orisan along the Ayetoro Ekiti-Ewu Ekiti Road on August 6.

He said the women were later released after spending four nights in the kidnappers’ den.

The prosecutor said: “Femi Akinola was reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of kidnapping Orisan Temitope and Orisan Feyisola on August 6, 2021 within Ido Ekiti Magisterial District.”

The offence, according to him, was contrary to Section 3(a) of the Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Law of Ekiti State, 2015 and Section 319 of the Criminal Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

Magistrate Mojisola Salau adjourned the case till September 20 for mention.

She also ordered that the defendant be remanded at a correctional centre in Ado Ekiti.

Police officer dismissed for alleged murder in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has dismissed a police officer for allegedly shooting a commercial motorcyclist to death in Osogbo, the state capital.

The police officer simply identified as Sgt. Adamu Garba allegedly shot dead the victim, Saheed Olabomi, on July 27.

The command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the police officer was dismissed after an orderly room trial.

She said: “The general public will recall that on July 27, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, immediately arrested and detained the police officer that shot one Saheed Olabomi in Osogbo, for disciplinary action.

As the CP promised, in the best tradition of transparency and accountability, the outcome of the trial has been brought to the public.

The policeman, F/NO.467549 Sgt. Adamu Garba, has been tried in orderly room procedure in line with the laid down Rules and Regulations of the Nigeria Police Force disciplinary procedure.

“The erring officer has been found guilty of the offence and subsequently dismissed from the Force.

“The orderly room procedure has been forwarded to Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, for necessary action.

“This, the CP believes will serve as a deterrent to other police officers.

“The CP wishes to apprise the general public, most especially the good people of the state that he will never condone any act of indiscipline and unprofessional conduct exhibited by any member(s) of the Nigeria Police under his watch.

He, however, appeals to the members of the public to be law-abiding and be rest assured that justice will prevail.”

Police rescues woman who attempted suicide in Jigawa

Police operatives in Jigawa State have rescued a woman identified as Maimuna Wadaji, who attempted to set herself on fire at the Rungumau village, Dutse local government area of the state.

Residents of the community told journalists on Saturday the woman attempted suicide after she heard that her husband was about to remarry his ex-wife.

The spokesman of the state police command, Lawan Shiisu, who confirmed the incident in a statement, the command, after receiving the information, swung into action and deployed operatives to the scene of the incident.

He said: “On Friday, at about 10:00hours, information was received by the police that one Maimuna Wadaji of Rungumau village, Dutse LGA, attempted suicide, where she bathed with petrol and put fire on herself.

“And after the woman shouted and called for help she was rushed to FUD Teaching Hospital in Dutse for treatment.”

The spokesman said Wadaji would be arraigned in court after her discharge from the hospital.

Police arrests two suspected killers of 50-year-old woman in Delta

Police operatives in Delta have arrested two suspected killers of a 50-year-old pepper seller in the state.

The suspects – Akpoghene Idogo and Onos Simon were arrested for conniving to kill the victim simply identified as Mrs. Patience Komor for ritual purposes.

The spokesman of the state police command, Edafe Bright, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Asaba, said the after the suspects killed the woman, removed some vital organs and buried the remains in a shallow grave.

Simon was arrested two days after the incident while Idogo who fled the area to avoid arrest was arrested in Kwale where he had gone to seek refuge.

Bright said: “Following a rip-off, the Divisional Police Officer, Oleh Police Station, Paul Oboware, on August 6, 2021, led a combined team of policemen and some vigilante group to Kwale town, where Akpoghene Idogo was arrested.

“The suspect has been on the run after the alleged murder of the woman who was a pepper seller. The suspect’s friend had earlier been arrested.

“Effort to arrest other suspects who contracted and paid the suspects N100,000 for the dastardly act is ongoing.”
