Akwa Ibom boy, Hope reunites with his father six years after he was branded a witch, stigmatized and left to starve to death

On January 30, 2016, Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén was photographed giving water to a severely emaciated 2-year-old boy, whom she rescued after he was branded a witch by his family and left to starve to death in Akwa Ibom. The boy had wandered the streets for months when Anja got a phone call and immediately led a rescue team including her husband David Emmanuel Umem, to bring the child to the Children’s Education and Development Foundation (ACAEDF) aka “Land of Hope”

Taking to Facebook page on Monday, August 1, 2022, Lovén revealed that Hope finally met his father few days ago after six years. The aid worker said Hope’s parents are divorced, however, she didn’t reveal circumstances that led to the boy being branded a witch and abandoned.

Read her post below:

For more than 6 years of searching we have finally found Hope´s father !!! A few days ago Land of Hope Director of Child Development Nsidibe Orok and I took Hope on home visit.

We want the villagers to witness Hope´s amazing transformation The last time we took Hope back to his village was in 2018 where we held a conference about superstition in the city hall for the entire community. This time Hope was excited to be back because he understands more and much to our surprise we suddenly stood face to face with his uncle, the brother to his mother !!

In 2016 when we rescued Hope, the uncle was working in another state so he was not around. He also told us that Hope´s father was back in the village after being away for years. Suddenly we were on our way to Hope´s father´s house. It was very surreal. The uncle told us that Hope looked a lot like his father and it was true. The resemblance was striking. Hope´s parents are divorced. Due to safety reasons and legality I cannot go into details. But I will say this, Hope´s father was very surprised to see his son again. And Hope just kept staring at him. David Jr. was there too. He was so caring and with hand signs he kept telling Hope that everything was fine.

When we came back to the Land of Hope, Hope took my phone and was so excited to show the children the pictures of him and his father. Exactly like all the other children do when they come back from home visit. Hope is not going to live with his father or mother for many reasons. But no matter what has happened in the past, children need to know their roots. Children need to know where they come from because it helps shape their identity.

Hope has the right to have an identity. Having an identity is a fundamental human right. For Hope to know more about his cultural background and where he comes from will help him to develop a strong sense of who he really is. For Hope to know where he comes from does not mean that he will ever forget what happened, on the contrary, it will set him free and take him to a more powerful place in his life.

If you haven’t found your purpose in life, stay single – Reno Omokri to men

Nigerian socio-political critic, Reno Omokri has advised men to be sure to find their purpose in life before deciding to find a wife.

Omokri explained that a man ought to find his purpose in life first and after this is done, a good wife will naturally come his way.

Using a biblical reference, the author stated that God created Eve only when Adam identified his purpose, which was taking care of the garden of Eden.

He wrote: “Dear men,

If you have not found your purpose or success, don’t find a wife, because you won’t be able to fund her. If you find a wife before finding your purpose and success, most likely, you have found trouble.

When you find purpose and success, the right woman will find you. God only brought Eve to Adam when Adam found his purpose (caring for the Garden of Eden). You do not need a wife simply because you have sensual urges. You need a wife when you have a life that is successful enough to accommodate other people.”

“Today Is The Worst Day Of My Life”- Man Cries Out As He Loses His Father

Several incidents of death had occurred last year, and some persons have also been reported dead this new year. This has left families of the bereved in pain.

A young man who lost his father hours ago took to social media to express his grief over loosing his dad to the cold hands of death. According to the young man, his dad meant everything to him before he passed on, making it the worst day of his life.

Do things happen by chance?

I got carried away in deep thoughts , thinking about recent happenings. Then I said to myself, “do things happen by chance?”. Have you ever felt like a particular scene is on repeat? Like something happens somewhere , precisely right in your presence and the following week , the exact thing occurs again. As an graduate of engineering , I recall from telecomms that , “a video is made up of several pictures or scenes put together continually to look like a moving scene”. Hmmm, video…motion pictures.

Well this is how life is , life keeps moving as scenes are put together while we progress. It feels like the supernatural one is writing the scripts and recording the scenes , while what we are expected to do is act our roles appropriately. So what script are you acting? Is it making any sense? Is it inclined with the purpose and goals you have set for yourself ?… Hey, are you with me? This is quite sensitive for me and I believe that some utterances are divine , some actions are divine and some interests are divine too. If you focus and think deeply about these words , it will in turn make you reflect about life and purpose.

Sometimes I sound too optimistic to some people and they ask , ” how will you do this? ” and others will say , ” why is she so confident?” but mind you , optimism is what drives our hope and saturates our dehydrated system. So at times, I am not really bothered about perfection but rather about progress in relation to my real life roles. I just play my real life roles in truth and optimism. Yes, truth and optimism coupled with the conviction that the divine is involved in all that concerns me.

How do you act your roles without thinking you are ruining things for yourself? Sometimes little compromises can ruin whatever progress one is building. Recently, I refused a bribe. Why? I thought about the fact that things might go wrong/awry after accepting the bribe and I might get caught up in a deep shit hole ? These thoughts rolled in and hey, I stood my ground.
Do you have a change of heart already? What kind of roles will you start acting onwards?!
