Ronaldo suffers first league defeat as Al Nassr lose top spot

Cristiano Ronaldo suffered his first Saudi Pro League defeat on Thursday as Al Ittihad claimed a 1-0 win to replace Al Nassr at the top of the table.

Al Nassr had not lost any of their five league games since Ronaldo’s debut on February 3, drawing his first match before racking up four successive wins. But that run ended against their title rivals at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

Romarinho got the game’s only goal in the 80th minute, rounding off a devastating counter-attack.

The forward brilliantly brought down Ahmed Sharahili’s right-wing delivery on the edge of the penalty box, with his first touch taking a defender out of the game.He then applied a cool finish which sparked jubilant celebrations.

Al Nassr coach Rudi Garcia tried to focus on the positives, however.

“We are disappointed because we did not deserve to lose,” he said. Al Ittihad scored a goal the way they like, on the counter-attack. The league is still long. We are now behind Al Ittihad by a point,” said Garcia. “I am happy with my team. We played in a difficult stadium in front of a strong audience, and yet we played with a wonderful personality.”

Cristiano Ronaldo will ‘go back to Europe’ before he retires, Al-Nassr coach claims

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr coach has claimed the forward will ‘go back to Europe’ before retiring from football.

The superstar player only secured a move to the Saudi Arabian side last month in a big money deal.

Now his own coach Rudi Garcia has suggested that the five-time Ballon d’or winner will have one final stint in Europe before hanging up his boots.

According to SPORT, Al-Nassr head coach Garcia said: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo is a positive addition as he helps disperse defenders.

The 58-year-old manager added: ‘He’s [Ronaldo] one of the best players in the world. He won’t finish his career at Al-Nassr, he’ll go back to Europe.’

Garcia disclosed this after the side’s 3-1 defeat to Al Ittihad in the semi-finals of the Arabian Super Cup, where Ronaldo failed to get on the scoresheet.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is yet to score for the club in the Saudi Pro League, having featured in one competitive fixture.

Cristiano Ronaldo named in the worst team of the World Cup after his nightmare tournament for Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo has been selected in the worst XI from the World Cup after he endured a difficult time for Portugal at the tournament in Qatar.

Ronaldo scored only one goal for his country and was dropped to the bench by Fernando Santos for their last-16 clash with Switzerland and their shock quarter-final defeat to Morocco.

The 37-year-old free agent reportedly threatened to quit the Portuguese camp during a heated meeting with Santos after he found out he had been axed for the Switzerland game, but the claim was quickly denied by the country’s FA and the player.

Ronaldo has now been included as part of the worst team of the World Cup, according to statistics provider Sofascore.

The worst XI team is based on Sofascore’s rating, which gives each player a score out of 10 for their performances at the tournament.

To be included, players had to have made a minimum of four appearances in Qatar. Ronaldo was named in the Sofascore side after scoring just 6.46.

The Portuguese forward is partnered up front by Lautaro Martinez, despite the Argentinian being a member of the team which lifted the trophy after beating France on penalties in the final.

Martinez, who failed to score for Argentina in Qatar in 148 minutes of action across the entire tournament, was given a rating of just 6.35.

Chelsea and Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was also been selected by Sofascore in their worst XI with a rating of just 6.30. US star, Sergino Dest, who is contracted to Barcelona but is on loan at AC Milan, got a paltry rating of 6.50. Kamil Glik and Bartosz Bereszy’ski of Poland, and Senegal centre back Abdou Diallo complete the back four.

Jackson Irvine and Mathew Leckie of Australia were picked in the midfield alongside South Korea’s Hwang In-beom and Switzerland’s Ruben Vargas.

Despite the late introduction, Ronaldo couldn’t rescue his nation.

The superstar has now revealed his ‘three aspects of reality’ in a post on Monday night.

The former Manchester United star shared a picture on Instagram that detailed his ‘three aspects of reality’ as ‘pain, uncertainty and constant work’.

Just one day before, Ronaldo broke his silence after their elimination and penned a long message to his followers on the same platform where he spoke of his allegiance to Portugal.

Ronaldo was named FIFA’s Player of the Match, which meant he had to attend the ensuing press conference.

He stayed in the room for 132 seconds and answered one question but, for the first time, publicly addressed his situation.

‘It is important we won,’ said Ronaldo, shaking his head when he heard United’s name mentioned. ‘It was a week that finished this chapter. It is closed and now I want to start with the good foot. We started here, we won. I want to help my team and all the rest of the squad.

He added: ‘This was a beautiful moment – my fifth World Cup. It is very important to win. We know in these competitions, the first match in crucial. But, also, the world record, the only player to score in five World Cups makes me very proud. The team made a good result in a tough game.’

Man United are expected to fire Ronaldo after the bombshell interview and released a statement late last week, saying they’ve initiated a process of responding to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

He is expected to play in his fifth World Cup tournament with Portugal later this month.

On Sunday night, November 20, Ronaldo’s follower count on photo-sharing application Instagram hit 500 million.

The 37-year-old Portuguese accused the Red Devils of betraying him in a tell-all interview with Piers Morgan last week.

Amid the fall-out with United, Ronaldo has now offered himself to the Spanish giants on a six-month contract, according to Sport.

The Spanish outlet claim Ronaldo wants to return to the Bernabeu as a replacement for the injured Karim Benzema in January.

The Ballon d’Or winner was forced to pull out of France’s World Cup squad after picking up a thigh injury.

Man United are looking to terminate Ronaldo’s contract seven months early without paying any of the £16million he is predicted to earn by June 2023.

Manchester United could ”terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract- Litigation and Sports Lawyer, David Seligman

Manchester United might want to terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract following his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

In snippets from Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo accused the club of ‘betraying’ him and blasted manager Erik ten Hag, adding he doesn’t ‘respect’ the Dutchman.

He also slammed his former teammate, Wayne Rooney for his constant criticism. Litigation and Sports Lawyer, David Seligman took to Twitter to say that United could have the right to terminate Ronaldo’s contract due to a ‘material breach of the implied duty of trust and confidence’.

According to him, the 37-year-old could be dismissed as United (the employer) have lost confidence in Ronaldo (the employee) to such an extent that is not feasible for him to return to work.

His now-deleted Tweet read: ‘After that interview, Man United would likely have grounds to terminate Ronaldo’s contract – material breach of the implied duty of trust and confidence as well as express terms regarding bringing club into disrepute.’

Flamengo’s president laughs off Cristiano Ronaldo rumours, says the Man United star would only be a substitute for the club if they sign him

Flamengo’s president has laughed rumours linking Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to his club, saying he would only be a substitute for the club.

The Portuguese star had been linked with the Brazilian club in recent days but Rodolfo Landim reacted when asked if the recently-crowned Copa Libertadores champions would be signing him.

‘I don’t know where it came from but they have a lot of creativity,’ Landim told the ‘Papo Reto’ podcast, as reported by Record.

‘First of all, I ask: For whose place? It’s to be on the bench.’ Landim went on to explain why signing the 37-year-old would be an economic impossibility for Flamengo.

‘From what I’ve read on the internet, I don’t know if it’s true or not, he would have been offered $242million [£215m] for a two-year contract. Divided by 24 months, that’s about $10m a month.

‘Talk about a value far above the entire salary sheet of Flamengo for Cristiano Ronaldo.

‘To be Pedro or Gabigol’s [Gabriel Barbosa] substitute? I can’t… nobody here is going to go crazy things.

‘The amateur time of managing, of thinking that in the future we’ll pay the bills, that no longer exists. There is no possibility of taking a step that is not firm.’ Landim was also asked about the possibility of signing the Brazilian star Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.

He replied:

‘I don’t know how much Neymar earns. I’ve heard that it will be close to four million euros [£3.48m] per month. ‘If we consider that amount, he will not want to come to Flamengo given what I will be able to offer him, within the wage structure.

‘He will have a better proposal from outside. It’s natural, it’s the ‘There are clubs with much bigger budgets than Flamengo that will be interested in an exceptional player like Neymar. Having Neymar would be a dream for any club in Brazil, I have no doubts.

‘I think he will play outside of Brazil for some time because he is exceptional. The clubs that can pay salaries of exceptional players like him are abroad [not in Brazil].’

Cristiano Ronaldo insists he’s “as committed and dedicated as always” to Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he remains as committed as ever to Manchester United after talks with coach Erik Ten Hag.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute in last Wednesday’s game against Tottenham, and he left the bench before full-time to storm down the tunnel at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag later confirmed he had wanted to bring Ronaldo on, but the Portuguese star refused and left the ground instead.

He was later banished from his squad for Saturday’s clash with Chelsea and made to train with the youth team.

However, Ronaldo has since been brought back into the first-team, and is expected to feature against Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday night, October 27.

He took to Instagram on Thursday morning to post a message to fans that he is still focused on performing for the Red Devils.

‘Back on track, with the same commitment and dedication as always!’ he wrote.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Erik ten Hag Cristiano Ronaldo will sit down for crunch talks with Erik ten Hag on Monday October 24, after he was dropped for refusing to come on against Tottenham amid reports Manchester United will let the forward leave in the January transfer window.

Ronaldo is under contract until the end of the season and Ten Hag has made it clear he wants the 37-year-old to see out his deal at the club.

According to the Mirror, Ten Hag and Ronaldo will meet at training on Monday to hash out talks with the striker expected to be integrated back into the first-team.

The Athletic go a step further by detailing that if Ronaldo refuses to accept Ten Hag’s handling of him, by playing a sparser role than he’d like, then the Dutchman would not stand in his way of letting him go.

Ultimately, if perennial starter Ronaldo needs can’t stomach a reduced role at United then the exit door will be shown. United would be happy to see Ronaldo leave as long as they can find a club that is willing to pay his mammoth £360,000-a-week wages.

As reported by Sportsmail, Chelsea co-controlling owner Todd Boehly may be open to signing Ronaldo in January.

Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence after storming out of Old Trafford following his refusal to come on against Tottenham

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence after storming out of Old Trafford shortly following his refusal to come to be brought on against Tottenham on Wednesday, October 19.

The Portuguese was named on the bench for Manchester United’s clash against Tottenham, which his team went ahead to beat Antonio Conte’s side 2-0.

Few minutes before the game could end, Ronaldo was seen marching down the touchline and into the tunnel. The Portuguese also left the stadium in anger.

Writing on Instagram, Ronaldo explained that ‘sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us’ as he apologise for his display. ‘I haven’t changed. I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football.

He added: ‘I started very young, the older and most experienced players examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. d respect has always played a very important role in my decision making process.’ ‘Unfortunately that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us.

‘Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again.’

His apology came after United released a statement on Thursday revealing Ronaldo had been banished from their squad for the trip to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon while it is believed he will be training away from the senior squad for the time being.

Manchester United coach, Erik Ten Hag vows to ‘deal’ with Cristiano Ronaldo after he stormed down the tunnel before full-time for not being brought on

Manchester United coach, Erik Ten Hag has vowed to take action against Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal striker stormed away from Manchester United’s victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford before full-time.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute in the game and toward the final minutes, he stormed down the tunnel in the 89th minute.

Sportsmail revealed he may even have left the stadium before the match finished.

Ten Hag didn’t give an answer when he was asked if Ronaldo had been given permission to leave.

The United manager simply said: ‘I have seen him, but I didn’t speak to him. I will deal with that tomorrow, not today. We are celebrating this victory. ‘I don’t pay attention today. I will deal with it tomorrow.

I want to keep the focus on the team and a magnificent performance from all 11 players and the subs who came on. It was a squad performance.’

It is the second time Ronaldo has left a United game without permission under Ten Hag.

In July, the 37-year-old exited Old Trafford at half-time after being substituted in a pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano.

Ten Hag described the incident as ‘unacceptable’ but pointed out that Ronaldo wasn’t the only United player who went early.

Mum of 14-year-old autistic boy whose phone was smashed by Cristiano Ronaldo demands the Man.United star is given ‘the right punishment’

The mother of an autistic boy whose phone was smashed by Cristiano Ronaldo wants the FA to give out the ‘right punishment’ to the footballer, insisting that the striker ‘can’t keep getting away’ with his ‘unacceptable behaviour’.

The Football Association charged the Manchester United star earlier this week after revealing footage showed Ronaldo slapping a phone out of 14-year-old Jacob Harding’s hand.

His mother Sarah Kelly, 37, has now urged the governing body to discipline the Portuguese forward appropriately. ‘Let’s hope he finally gets the right punishment,’ she told the Mirror.

‘He can’t keep getting away with it. His behaviour is unacceptable.’ Ronaldo’s explosive behaviour occurred during Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park in April. She continued:

‘I’m being hounded by people saying I’m dragging it up again but I didn’t know anything about it.

‘He should have been dealt with six months ago. My son talks about what happened to him every day. He still hasn’t had his phone back.’

The FA’s statement on Friday September 23 read: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for an incident that took place after Manchester United FC’s Premier League match against Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022.

‘It is alleged that the forward’s conduct after the final whistle was improper and/or violent.’ A statement from United on Friday read:

‘We note the FA announcement in relation to Cristiano Ronaldo. We will be supporting the player in his response to the charge.’

Lionel Messi bypasses Cristiano Ronaldo in number of non-penalty goals scored

Lionel Messi has bypassed Cristiano Ronaldo in the rankings for the total number of goals scored without a penalty.

The 35-year-old superstar scored for Paris Saint-Germain during their 1-0 victory over Lyon on Sunday night, September 18. As a result, Messi has now scored 672 non-penalty goals during his professional career.

While Ronaldo has scored 671. Messi scored PSG’s only goal in their Ligue 1 clash with Lyon. He found the back of the net in the fifth minute of the game to see them win 1-0, taking his non-penalty goal tally to 672, trumping Manchester United forward Ronaldo by one despite playing 150 fewer games than the Portugal international.

Ronaldo still holds the bragging right for more appearances when it comes to international football.

The United forward has made 189 appearances for Portugal and has featured in four World Cups, five European Championships, one Nations League Finals and one Confederations Cup.

Meanwhile, Messi has made 162 appearances for Argentina – playing at four World Cups and six Copa America’s. However, he has only ever picked up one international trophy.

Ronaldo has also scored more goals in total. He has found the back of the net 699 times in 941 games in all competitions for four different clubs.

Ronaldo has also scored more than 50 goals a season for six consecutive seasons for Real Madrid between 2010-11 and 2015-16. For Messi, he has scored 688 goals in 822 competitive games across all competitions for two clubs – Barcelona and PSG.

Additionally, Messi has scored more than 30 goals a season for 13 consecutive seasons for Barcelona between 2008-09 and 2020-21.

Manchester United players convinced Cristiano Ronaldo is already plotting January move away from Old Trafford

Manchester United players still expect Cristiano Ronaldo to push for a move away in January.

Back in July, Ronaldo told the Premier League club that he wanted to leave after they missed out on Champions League football last season, but his request was rejected and he ended up staying at the club.

Despite scoring 24 goals last season, Ronaldo has started just one league match this term – United’s humiliating 4-0 defeat against Brentford with Erik ten Hag preferring Marcus Rashford up front instead.

However, it has been reported that United’s first-team stars think the Portuguese icon will have his sights set on an exit at the start of 2023 due to struggling to adapt to ten Hag’s style of play ‘All the players loved it when Ronaldo came back to United last season but they are frustrated he missed pre-season,’ a source told The Sun.

‘The manager put a lot of work into giving the squad detailed information about what he wanted them to do and how he wanted them to play.

‘Ronaldo is not up to speed with that and is relying on instinct when he plays. But that doesn’t work in Ten Hag’s system.

‘He often demands the ball too early in build-up play and drops deep for the ball, but that means when the ball is wide there is no-one in the middle to hit it into.

‘It’s clear that the success they have had this season is from following tactical instruction rather than the individual brilliance they relied on last season.

‘Ronaldo is likely to find himself on the bench again going forward.’

Cristiano Ronaldo called for captain Harry Maguire to be demoted and said he was part of the problem at Man United, new report reveals

Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly called for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire to be dropped last season because he was “part of the problem”‘ at the club.

The Portuguese striker returned to Old Trafford last season but failed to help the club avoid a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

Details have now emerged surrounding the Portuguese striker’s demands, from team selection to formation tweaks.

According to the Athletic, Ronaldo was part of a group of players who went up to Rangnick at Carrington in February this year. Among them were Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba but Ronaldo’s message came through clearly when he said:

‘Maguire is part of the problem.’ Rangnick is said to have told the players including Ronaldo that it was ‘inappropriate’ to speak about Maguire when the player himself was not present.

A few players from the group subsequently apologised to the interim boss, who departed the club in the summer.

Ronaldo also had a view on the team’s formation and during the impromptu meeting told the manager in no uncertain terms how he wanted them to set up.

The 37-year-old wanted to play alongside Edinson Cavani up front but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

The report helps shed light on the summer of discontent at Old Trafford – which has largely been overshadowed by Ronaldo pushing to leave.

Ironically, Maguire, who Ronaldo called to be dropped, has also been out of the team during their recent games with the striker only starting from the bench.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the second-fastest hat-trick of his career.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the second-fastest hat-trick of his career, beaten only by the 20-minute treble he scored for Real Madrid against Espanyol in September 2015

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick inside the opening 32 minutes as Juventus bounced back from their midweek Champions League exit by beating Cagliari 3-1.

Ronaldo, 36, opened the scoring with a header before a right-footed penalty and a drilled, left-footed finish completed a ‘perfect’ treble.

Giovanni Simeone pulled a goal back for Cagliari in the second half.

Juventus stay third but are now three points clear of fourth-placed Atalanta.

Ronaldo came in for some criticism after Juventus’ extra-time defeat against Porto on Tuesday, the second year in a row they have been knocked out at the last-16 stage. But this performance was a reminder of just how devastating the former Manchester United forward can be.

He rose unmarked to meet Juan Cuadrado’s corner to send a towering header beyond Alessio Cragno after just 10 minutes, before drawing a foul from the goalkeeper for a penalty which he converted 15 minutes later.

The third goal was vintage Ronaldo, collecting Federico Chiesa’s pass just inside the area, shimmying away from a defender and powering the ball into the top corner.

Cagliari, who are just two points clear of the relegation zone, improved in the second half and got on the scoresheet when Simeone slid home Gabriele Zappa’s cross from the right.

Ronaldo could have scored his fourth goal with virtually the last kick of the game, but Cragno did well to rush out and block.

Elsewhere, Lautaro Martinez scored a late winner as Inter beat Torino 2-1 to move nine points clear at the top, while second-placed AC Milan were beaten 1-0 at home to Napoli
