Chemical engineer turned Nollywood actor, Karibi Fubara losses battle to cancer

On Wednesday, December 15, Nollywood actor Karibi Fubara joined the unwanted list of Nigerian celebrities who have passed on in 2021.

Fubara, who is one of the most creative modern-day thespians, lost the battle to cancer.

His demise was confirmed by his sister, Aya Eneli via her Twitter page.

“My brother, Karibi Fubara, has joined the ancestral realm. I’m devastated, but not hopeless. He lived fully and with joy. Left a great body of work. Will be a powerful ancestor. I love you, #ChiefBlack. I do not own the rights to this song.”

Here are five things to note about the late Nollywood actor.

1. Karibi Fubara studied Chemical Engineering at the Ohio State University

2. Before becoming a Nollywood actor, Kabiri landed his first big breaks as a model in several international ad campaigns for Apple, Verizon, Hewlett Packer, Nestle, and Walt Disney

3. Fubara was a voice character in the popular video game, Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008.

4. In May 2020, the actor disclosed for the first time he found out he had a large mid-stage kidney tumor and he was battling cancer.

5. Karibi married celebrity stylist, Yolanda Okereke in 2018.

Fountain of Life founder, Odukoya loses second wife to cancer

The founder of the Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, has lost his wife, Pastor Nomthi Odukoya.

The church confirmed the cleric wife’s death in a statement on its Instagram page on Tuesday.

The woman, according to the statement died from cancer.

She was diagnosed of cancer two years ago.

Nomthi, who hails from South Africa, is survived by her husband, two sons and three step-children from the cleric’s first marriage.

Pastor Odukoya’s first wife, Bimbo Odukoya, died in the infamous Sosoliso plane crash in 2005.

The statement read: “With deep regret and gratitude to God, we have to announce the passing of our Senior Pastor’s wife, Pastor Nomthi Odukoya.

“She battled cancer for the better part of two years, She stood on the Word of God, and fought.

“We loved her with all our heart, but who are we to fight the will of God.

“The truth is, at one point in our lives, we all will have to say goodbye. So for now, till we meet again in glory, Goodbye Pastor Nomthi.”

It’s fake news – ID Cabasa debunks reports of Sound Sultan battling throat cancer

Ace producer, ID Cabasa has debunked reports claiming that veteran singer, Olanrewaju Fasasi also known as Sound Sultan, has throat cancer.

Media outlets on May 12, 2021, reported that that Sound Sultan is currently battling with throat cancer in the United States.

According to SaharaReporters, the singer has commenced chemotherapy in one of the hospitals in the country.

Fans had already taken to social media to share goodwill messages and prayers.

Reacting, ID Cabasa debunked the report, saying the news is false.

“Before una spread this news just know it’s not true,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Baba Dee, the singer’s elder brother, in a message to Qed.ng, noted that although Sound Sultan is sick and recuperating, he wasn’t diagnosed with throat cancer.

Hamed Bakayoko: Ivory Coast’s PM dies.

The Prime Minister of Ivory Coast, Hamed Bakayoko, has died in a hospital in Germany, authorities say.

Bakayoko, who was receiving treatment for cancer, passed away on Wednesday, just days after his 56th birthday.

He was appointed prime minister in July, following the sudden death of his predecessor Amadou Gon Coulibaly.

President Alassane Ouattara described Mr Bakayoko as a “great statesman, an example to young people and a man of exemplary loyalty”.

“Our country is in mourning,” said President Alassane Ouattara on Twitter.  “I have the immense sorrow to announce to you the death of Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko this Wednesday, 10 March, in Germany following cancer”,  Ouattara said, adding, he was  “a great statesman, a model for our youth, a personality of great generosity and exemplary loyalty ”.

A transfer to Turkey, where there was talk of the Ivorian Prime Minister undergoing an emergency transplant, had also been considered for last Thursday. But doctors said he was no longer operable. 

Bakayoko received treatment in France on February 18. In recent months, he had contracted coronavirus and malaria.


During his first stay in Paris at the end of January, he had performed a series of medical tests at the American Hospital without any precise diagnosis. Alassane Ouattara went to his bedside visited the prime minister on March 3 in Paris. During a dinner with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace, the Ivorian president expressed concern about the health of his prime minister.

A former media executive who turned to politics, he played a prominent mediation role in Ivory Coast’s civil war during the first decade of the century.

“He was a key player in the political game and a major player in reconciliation. It’s a true shame,” Issiaka Sangare, spokesman for the opposition Ivorian Popular Front told AFP news agency.

Aside from his role as prime minister, Mr Bakayoko was also the country’s defence minister.

Patrick Achi has been appointed as interim prime minister, while Tene Birahima Ouattara, a younger brother of the president, has been named interim defence minister.
